I understand vaporwave started out as a joke but seeing how more people have came together to create more of it and now more people like it I just wish some people would stop treating it as a joke because I love vaporwave or chillwave and the many sub genres out there. I think its just amazing to get some of the vibes you hear from the songs now a days witch I think makes the music great.

Well... hip hop was born as a way for blacks to give a big F u to whites, now lyrics are diverse and hop beats are everywhere. Trap was born as the joke of starting out chill then drop the base hard, now it's the branch of electronic music that appeal to the masses. Styles or genres appear for whatever reason then become legit. It's the natural evolution. Vaporwaver will get there

To me, Simpsonwave (or, should I say it, ＳＩＭＰＳＯＮＷＡＶＥ) is *clearly* made as a mockery, and the fact that people started enjoying it earnestly only makes it more effective. I mean, vaporwave is more of a sneer, a sideways, sarcastic laugh that most people wouldn't understand, but simpsonwave is laughing *at people's faces*. It's just taking their fabricated nostalgia and spitting on it without people realising. It just shows how prone people are to get attached to things that evoke visions of a "perfect" past. I mean, even the videos are tinted purple, as if seen through rose-coloured glasses (at least I think that's the intention). That's why it's great.

Maybe it was intended to be a joke, a lot of people are clearly convinced that it is, but regardless of that, those who started the joke are not capable of controling it to become something else. You're not allowed to actually like things unless everything you post has 15 layers of irony. Nobody understands Simpsonswave because it's exactly that. Nobody likes "Simpsonswave." There's no actual joke that anybody gets, it's not even like an injoke. They like vaporwave but that's too uncool for them. So they decide to kill that scene so they have an excuse to post it. "I'm just posting vaporwave ironically see look at my simpsons shit lolz amirite?" My rambling point is Simpsonswave represents everything I hate about the internet right now.

I've genuinely been enjoying vaporwave, and I was about to check out Simpsonwave, not for a laugh but an experience. And often people who joke around get mixed in with the others, but who cares, on the internet nobody knows you're a dog. If you think the internet masses aren't capable of creating and enjoying anything else than humor and irony, you need to go explore more. The internet is a marvelous place my friend, don't let it get you down!

Vaporwave has lots of amazing stuff. A lot of it is extremely derivative and boring, but you also have Blank Banshee, Infinity Frequencies, Internet Club, VHS Logos, Saint Pepsi, and many others that are amazing. And, of course, there are artists who are *not* vaporwave, but have (directly or indirectly) influenced the scene a lot, like Oneohtrix Point Never, Com Truise, Boards of Canada, The Focus Group, Tycho and so on.

Well, it STARTED as that, but lately, it is kinda intentionally created, and real effort is being done. Plus, sampling's been done for years. Take a look at Daft Punk and basically anything in dubstep.

This Exists is one of the few channels that really captivates me on RU-vid. There's certainly a number of similar shows, but I love the format and host of this one. I can't help but miss seeing his videos pop up in my subscriptions weekly. A lot of the topics he covered has helped me discover some really cool stuff that I love sharing with my friends. I hope he comes back soon, I know he's gotten busy with his band and I heard he released a book recently too?? Either way, here's to hoping This Exists will keep on existing.

Ah, been there man. I was raised as a Pentecostal/Evangelical Christian and some cartoons and movies were strictly forbidden (Pokemon, Dragonball Z, Harry Potter). Parents, ammiright? Anyway, if you ever feel like catching up with the series, I'd highly recommend it, especially the first few seasons (catching up with the entire run might be something of a task). It's exactly as good as people say it is.

the Simpsons are the essential middle-class middlebrow American family, Bart and Lisa Simpson are the essential somewhat angsty but not to an unrealistic level suburban middle class nothing-special kids, and muzak is the essential artistically/historically/culturally worthless genre of music that nobody outside the vaporwave community gives a shit about. However, when you recontextualize all of these things at once, juxtaposing their supposed impersonality with highly emotional themes such as love death fear and longing; you get a work of art that acknowledges the quiet desperation of the often overlooked common man and the deep melancholy that comes with living a life nobody will remember in a town nobody cares about and being aware of those facts. or its just a worthless meme

I think it started as a joke, but then the people making Simpsonwave made sure to give it their best effort. The real answer is that you can accept it lightly as a joke if you want, especially at surface value or mention, but then you can go on to enjoy a Simpsonwave video and watch it the whole way through and not laugh at it like just any other form of Vaporwave.

i liked your idea about emotional resonance in simpsonwave (although it's obviously an audio-visual joke) and vaporwave, and i think it's very close to the concept of hauntology as a music genre and artistic method, because the main idea of hauntology is creating a ghost of the past (sometimes it embodies safety of childhood, sometimes it can be disturbing as hell), and all this vaporwave-related stuff is, in my opinion, about the same thing, but vaporwave is much simplier in its methods than hauntology (the latter is an actual music genre when vaporwave is mostly a genre of remixes). it would be great if you made a video about this amazing art phenomenon. thank you for your video!
