this guy is so professional man knows how to talk in front of a camera with confidence and truly knows how to explain something so clear must be them keytones fueling his mental abilities
Your videos are the only thing other than music and podcasts that I can actually work too. Simple, easily digestible, no need to research stuff often (info is complete and comprehensive too)
I went off dairy for 30 days. When I went back on milk I felt substantially better on milk than off. My heritage is northeast Europe (Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and some Dutch). Scandinavia exports a lot of dairy.
Thomas, please do a video on how we may be addicted to foods that we are actually allergic to. The constant stomach ache issue reminded me that people sometimes are eating foods they think they like, but really are constantly experiencing the reaction to the food: a heightened state that is brought about by the body's defense system to something that they ate and is trying to defend and detoxify itself from.
I watched this video 2 months ago and since then I decided to give a try. Oh lord! What a wise decision I made. I stopped drinking/dairy two months ago and I like my stomach is much flatter and I have more energy to work out. I highly recommend to everyone to give a try. Dairy is just a business, so don't let your body to be a profit for someone else at cost of your health.
Humans were meant to consume mostly animal products with SOME plants... Some people make the argument that monkeys eat mostly plants.... But do you see them talking??? Most herbivores have to spend FAR more time eating than a carnivore does to get the same amount of nutrients and energy.... So no not everything is bad for u.... We just need to start looking at "were we meant to eat this"... Dairy is possibly the only animal product where the answer is no... (Assuming said animal product is raised right)
@kevin wall u are a brainwashed lunatic!!! I will not respond to u... Have fun getting sick from lack of USABLE nutrients... Plants variations of nutrients cannot be utilized by the human body. it's been scientifically proven that the body must first convert it to the animal variation... Such conversions in the human body have a 1% to 3% success rate and the human body is not equipped to try again.... If you cut meat out of your diet you will eventually be forced to put it back in... All vegans find this out sooner or later...
Of course. It's fucking horrific how the animals are treated in Europe (for meat AND dairy/eggs). Do a bit of research rather than taking my word for it.
I did that experiment you mentioned of 30 days by accident. the effects were quite noticeable. My skin quality decreased a ton. and i felt with alot less energy
Good video. But I think addressing the difference between Organic Grass Fed RAW dairy and Commercial Pasteurized / Homogenized (even if its organic) is a very important point and a major factor when deciding to consume dairy. The nutrient profile of Raw to Commercial is vastly different. Most who are lactose intolerant will have no issues with RAW. It is not accessible to find all forms of raw dairy (i.e. milk, butter, cheese..) in all state, but if you do live in a state that doesn't make food decisions for you then I would say make the effort to get RAW. I have been drinking RAW milk for a few years now and making my own Raw Milk Kefir. Always want to make sure you buy from reputable farmer, but these days we have the simple technology and stringent regulations to produce raw milk in an extremely safe way.
My family & i, 6 months ago started drinking Raw A2 grass fed/finished cow & goat milk. We get a gallon each a week from our local farmer. Before we would drink store bought regular pasteurized a1 milk. We had a host of problems for years. Intolerance, deficiencies, bloating, eczema, diarrhea, etc. Once we switched to raw cow & goat milk all problems went away!! Raw milk is a miracle! 🙌
Of course you are not from europe it is like drinking poison for you. Africans have very low tolerance. But if you have tolerance and the milk is fine it is great👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I don’t really agree with the hormone argument since our stomachs mechanically break down the hormones into basic units: lipids, amino acids, and peptides. You’d have to literally inject the milk into your veins for those hormones to effect you. The antibiotic argument is definitely something I’ll have to research. Great videos! You’ve really been a help during my Keto adaption phase 😃
In Sweden we have really strict laws and and Swedish cows must not be given antibiotics. And farms in gerneral in Sweden are very very good in health point in view for the cows
The question as to if dairy is bad for you or not is very personal. From my perspective I had terrible bloating and congestion with diary and gluten. Once I cut them out entirely at the advice of an excellent nutritionist, I felt like a new person. Now I tend to avoid both, though small amounts don't seem to create the discomfort they once did.
When I did Whole 30 (removing dairy from my diet), I had a major epiphany that my sinuses had been congested for 40 years and I never even realized it. I always thought I breathed normal until I removed the dairy and was breathing clearer than I ever had in my life. Additionally, my entire life I have had fluid in one of ears causing me to have tubes in my ears 3 times. GONE. No more fluid. My skin cleared up, my joints stopped aching, the chicken skin on my arms went away, and I had an overall reduction in inflammation. You just never know how something is making you feel until you really truly eliminate it for an extended period of time. Whatever science or Vets you want to listen to, listen to your BODY.
Thank you. And that’s why I quit milk 20 years ago - when I heard the story about how milk was being produced from cows bleeding from over-milking them. 😕😓
@@AM-tb4fn Yes butter is made from milk. However milk intolerances are Milk protein Milk sugar and Milk calcium Butter has been separated from those ingredients. Once separated butter becomes one of the easiest foods to metabolize. Even people with severe milk allergies can usually eat butter without problems. I live in Canada. Here it is against the law to use growth hormones or antibiotics on milking cows. If in your area these laws don't exist. Buy organic. I buy unsalted.
Decided to quit dairy 2 days ago, and this video made me feel all the more better! "unnecessary, unethical and unhealthy" as someone here so nicely put it in the comment. Thanks for the video brother!
it's unhealthy for some people, but i would probably give up on life without dairy. i have never experienced any issues with dairy and i crave milk if i havent had it for a week. it's carried my nutrition my entire life.
This only applies to the United States. Nowhere else on Earth is permitted to use rBST and antibiotics use is strictly controlled. (This is is a big corporate scandal!) Outside the United states: Sick cows that are ill and are treated with antibiotics are removed from the milk-producing heard and her milk is thrown away. Once the cow is recovered from illness and all antibiotics have cleared the her system, she goes back into the herd. All milk is always tested before being processed for all kinds of things. I find it surprising that you address this issue like this was normal and some legitimate practice handed down from business history involving private enterprise and not free enterprise. Fascinating! Americans have suppliers of grass-fed organic milk which would make a good alternative regarding anyone's health and safety. (Free Enterprise)
Then still we should not consume it. It contains more crap than beneficial stuff. It actually causes osteoporosis in women (according to a study), instead of increasing bone density. Milk is all about marketing and money. And now I am not even talking about the extra sugar that is added to it to give it a better taste or whatever.
Almost majority of humans are not evolved to drink milk... Mostly Northern Europeans are able to drink it, and like the video said, even they may not fully digest it. There are known carcinogenic proteins in milk as well, so I don't get why people think milk is so good for us. *Cow milk
All of aldi milk and cheese doesn't have hormones or antibiotics. Also anytime a cow in wisconsin is given antibiotics the milk isn't used. I think it depends on where you source your dairy from. Most of our cows are a portion grass fed and they are allowed to graze. Pretty sure it's the source from California everyone complains about.
Priscilla.... please site study as i have osteoporosis and did not get milk growing up and aside from occasional yogurt and small amounts of cheese i did not drink milk as an adult except while pregnant. thanks
I read a new research domunentary and this is what that said: ~75% are Lactose in tolerence (cant diegest milk) It causes leaky gut (search for it unless u know..its a big thing) consuming more than 1.25 leters can cause cancer (serious) Reason: milk increases IGF-1 (insulin like growth factor - 1) in your blood ... causes acne too. But if you are into bodybuilding you know how important IGF-1 is. Antibiotics / hormones fed to cows doesent matter to us...(they get burned/diegeated before reaching gi/gut) Most importantly: if you love milk.99% time you love it with sugar..it ruins everything...MILK AND SUGAR not good. If you are trying to break sugar addiction (which you probabably should) you have to cut diaries as well..(not cheese youghurt) Cheese and yoghurt / curd is good (Low lactose and good bacteria for your gut...very good) Like my comment to make sure another random guy see this too
Tori Lauren you can. Just google raw milk finder. It will be a website or an app. That's how I found mine. Your local WAPF (Weston A. Price Foundation) chapter will hook you up with everything, too. I'm looking to turn my raw milk into kefir which is a superfood.
Considering how prevalent prostate cancer is in men, isnt any correlation whatsoever enough to scare you off it? the majority of men that die of "natural causes" actually die of prostate cancer. Its like breast cancer in women, if a product was suspected of causing breast cancer, wouldnt you expect your wife or mom to stop consuming it?
I've been dairy and sugar free for a few years now by choice - feels great. Easter and Xmas are challenges but otherwise easy lifestyle to sustain! Love your videos :)
Amazing... this video has given me so much insight on me and my son’s digestive issues that doctor could never tell us! Thank you for this education and all of your amazing knowledge in these videos!!!
I always use cottage cheese for one of my proteins, and I'm pretty much scared to eat anything anymore. Everything is bad for you and everything has pesticides on it.
Years ago when i tried a vegetarian diet i replaced meat protein with cheese. I developed severe asthma. When i quit the cheese the asthma vanished to. I since discovered we don't need ti replace meat with other sources of protein. Just eat whole foods.
I agree with everything you said! I’m vegan and I never really noticed I was lactose intolerant because I was used to having bloating all the time and thought it was normal but when I didn’t have dairy anymore I didn’t have those problems anymore, also I’m gluten intolerant I was tested 5 years ago and I have gluten sensitivity over the years I thought it’s just a sensitivity not celiac so I didn’t think it was the gluten for a couple years I’ve had bad inflammation and the drs can’t find anything wrong and I finally researched it and gluten sensitivity causes inflammation
I went off dairy for two week and when I drank milk again I was bloated, heavy, lethargic, weighed down and puffy. I now can't believe that for most of my life I've started the day with a big bowl of milk in my cereal.
Am I the only one who caught that he said that we weren't drinking any bull milk at about 5:30? I about died. Gunna be like the scene from kingpin. Takes a bit of tugging But when it starts coming out there is no stopping it
Lactase levels in adults vary drastically by ethnicity. If you're European, especially northern European, you'll likely have no problem with dairy. Been a great addition to my strength training diet.
My digestive system is knackered. I can't remember not having bowel issues. I'm going to try dairy free, see how I get on. Thanks for this video Subscribed
Yup. Did this. Dairy is off my diet. Stayed away from it for a about 6 months. Now, if I have a bit I get bloated like crazy. Milk is a no go zone, as it ends badly... what amazes me is my nasal allergies: they are almost none existent after removing dairy, even my hay fever has reduced massively.
That's what I thought he said too...I sure ain't milking the bull... he can have that all to himself... must be why he thinks milk isn't doing the body good... he's doing it wrong...
Thank you for this information. I think this video demonstrates that you have not sold out to big business like so many other so called experts. In my experience it seems that the larger the organisation, no matter what the field, food, science, government, corporate; the more corrupt they are. Larger organisations appear to almost automatically loose their human touch or any sense of conscience. It's people like Thomas that work hard to distribute 'unbiased' knowledge that we should really value. I am going to try dairy free for 30 days, right after this milk shake, haha. ps, how much do you bench?
Hey Thomas. Been following you for a while. Thanks for your channel. Just to say that while I am not disagreeing nor agreeing with you about dairy, the picture that you provide is of factory farmed cows. Dairy can come from grass fed free ranging cows, not to mention goat and sheep. Another major factor, is the form in which it is consumed. Milk is not soft cheese is not hard cheese is not fermented cheese. Its not an all or nothing affair.
I work for an organic creamery making raw milk cheese, and have been drinking fresh whey every day for the last two years..combined with my workout routine..I think It's time to make a video to blow some minds
Me too. Listen my family grew up on a farm in upstate N.Y and lived off milk, eggs etc... Everyone lived well past 80(8 kids dad's side) like 4 into their 90's and my grandmother 105. No cancers or bullshit this is all a scam. It's not health conscious for people, its just another racket and way for guys like this to make money, which is now in 2018 a monster business. Yeah some people have digestive issues.. Ooooooooh people also have allergies to peanuts and multiple other food and drink. People are just always looking for something to blame in their diet bc of vanity and guys like this are laughing all the way to the bank.
I suspect you are a white guy. Most, but not all white folk have more ability to digest lactose than most others groups. A white guy I know is lactose intolerant.
Honestly man Idk where all of this shit came from? You never heard statistics about milk affecting people before for decades. Just like gluten. Really? It's got to be an environmental factor or something because I have known a lot of people in my years, and maybe 1 freak kid was lactose intolerant. I think really it is a bill of goods sold to the public just for some asshole to be able to make money. Yes I am very cynical and have a right to be. People will do anything these days to make a dollar. Until I get hard core proof and statistics, I am skeptical. If I am wrong I will apologize and look into it, or think I am just stronger genetically then 70% of the population haha.
Wow, I had no clue about the gluten in milk....This explains the discomfort after my coffee, which is usually milk based. I love the way you explain things, a lot a details and fact....Thx! Im sure I learned it, but Im just always thinking about wheat
i never ate dairy... and now on keto... and tonight i am sick... i ate a lot of things i don't like : meat, chicken, eggs, dairy... and crucerferous veggies (i dislike all these) any suggestions ? i eat fish, sashimi, avocado, i like some cruciferous veggies and i like coconut (i like keto coffee)
Thomas dr berg did a video on “ plants do not like to be eaten” saying spinach and other foods have way to many oxalate and we should not be consuming them regularly ... can cause all types of bad stuff ... can you please do a short video with your opinion or even a quick response ... I am huge into fitness and eat leafy greens everyday ... would love to hear your thoughts
The very last comment...eat right for you. I tried cutting dairy for nearly a year and it was awful. I experimented again and cutting refined "empty" carbs nearly completely fixed all my problems and a small amount of dairy actually seems to help me. Different people seem to react differently to different things. My theory is genetics / ancestry. It seems like there is literally no one single diet that suits everyone and you just have to find out what works for you.
rBST is a growth hormone for dairy cows to stimulate milk production, is not allowed in milk in Canada, but it has been used in the US. All milk in Canada is tested for antibiotic residues and if there is any milk that tests positive for antibiotics, the product is not sold to the public and the farmer responsible for the contaminated milk is fined and has to cover all expenses of the discarded shipment.
I never liked milk till a few months back. I knew I had lactose intolerance. But, I saw that lactase drop could make milk lactose free. So, started drinking and am looking very much better. Don't know if I am healthier but I do look very much healthier maybe because I started getting calcium. If I find any other good calcium source then will stop drinking milk.
It started with peanut allergies in the 90', then red meat became bad, and then grains. Shortly after people began avoiding dairy etc. Now the only healthy things to eat are seeds and organic produce. I know people who avoid red meat, dairy, etc...and their all sick. I live on red meat, dairy and some bread and totally healthy.
Coming from a small dairy farmer myself, if there is any residue from an antibiotics or treatments then the milk has to be dumped. ALL OF IT. Every single load is tested before it goes into the food supply. We don't use hormones either, and there feed is mostly silage and hay, not grain. In fact I trust the milk that we produce so much that the milk I drink (from our cows) isn't pasteurized. Everything in the stores is pasteurized though.
3:10 correction: it's not we who get antibiotic resistant, it's the bacteria we try to get rid of with the antibiotics. And this is a problem even if you personally don't eat that kind of food
Giving up milk is a tough one for me.... It has always been such a source of comfort. I don't think I have in intolerance to it. Maybe my 'addiction' to it is about the sugar?!
I tried longer than 30 days. Not much changed on my end. Im northern european though so that might be why. We have been drinking milk for a millennia. Maybe lost some weight, but that was probably due to calorie deficit. Only thing I'm doing is going 6 months to see if my testosterone goes up. Not sure of the science of how much the estradiol is actually utilized by the body, so it may be a minimal effect or a non-issue since I lift.
Hey Thomas ! Do you have a video of what a typical day of eating for you is ? Also , it would be helpful in all your videos and content going forward to use the metric system. Just because so many non USA folk watch your videos etc and I have no clue what 8 oz of water is - just a thought ! Would be very helpful !!
This was a pretty good video. I especially appreciated the historical overview of the dairy industry. For most of my adult life I've ignored the warnings about dairy, and just looked for the rbst-free milk. However, within the past 6 months I've seen some Dr. Berg videos on the subject that along with some health issues have scared me straight. I still eat butter and cheese, but I have pretty much eliminated my milk consumption. I've switched to almond milk for those rare occasions when I consume milk anymore.
Ugh , can't have dairy products because of the hormones, can't have too much protein because it'll turn into carbs too, can't have more than 1 avocado a day because of the glucose since its a fruit. What CAN you eat in a good Keto diet? Soon these videos are going to convince me I cant have anything except coconut oil for most meals.
Keto isn't natural. Studies are showing long term keto does damage. No surprise really, carbs have been the staple of the human diet until the industrial revolution. Eat a piece of bread with some pb and j on it and just live.
@@robideals685 There are exactly no reputable studies that show this. Actually, studies on the health of the only people on real ketogenic diets for a truly long period of time, epilepsy patients, show they are surprisingly healthy despite having had seizures during their developmental phases.
Yes there is, recent ones too. But this shouldn't surprise you because this kind of diet is not sustainable for the long term without some side effects. Burning ketones for energy is the body's emergency switch. Our body does not prefer this method of getting energy. But go ahead and leave it on for as long as it suits you, but don't be surprised when you get sick more often than others and are overall less energetic (mentally but also physically) over the long term (which you won't feel like you are but others will see as clear as day).
@@robideals685 Really? because beta-hydroxybutyrate increase brain function massively and low carb diets most resemble what we evolved for. And I would say the body definitely prefers it. It obviously prefers it because it can produce glucose from the same fats it produces ketones from, but instead it choses to use them for ketones. Actually, the brain preferentially selects ketones over glucose as a fuel source. And low-carb iron man contestants report feeling far better after their competitions than they did previously on high carb diets that they were recommended by sports physicians.
So I'm convinced to stay away from cow's milk. but what about cheese and butter ,cream cheese, ect? On keto and those are part of the diet?? what to do?
Great video! Milk has always been my cheat source for extra calories to maintain mass. I never really had anything else to keep the mass on because I have EOE (look it up), and eating right has been a chore. As far as better milk, I recently switched to Horizon Organic in the hopes that this would be the least worst of the milks for my body... Time will tell I guess.
It is illegal in the US to ship milk with artificial hormones or antibiotics. Each farm is tested as well as each tanker. Cows treated with antibiotics are milked separately and milk is either dumped or fed to calves.
Hi, i like video contents and the science of things work in the body. I have steered away from animal milk since i got my high speed blenders a few years ago and only make my own almond, hazelnut, soy and mix bean milk as a means to control the ingredients that goes into my milk. However i was diagnosed w/ oral cancer 2 years ago and that was a wake up call for me as i was still consuming whey protein back then. I can’t always stomach cow milk but i can handle cheese. I definitely can’t stomach whipped cream. So these days i found your channel researching keto diet to see if it’s right for me. Thank you for making all these great videos. I highly appreciate them
I am a vegetarian and eat eggs too. I can do keto only if I consume paneer ghee coconut oil avocado and cruciferous veggies. I don't consume milk and I consume organic ghee and paneer. This should be fine right?
Thomas, if our body did not get used to processing milk because you said we started consuming it only 10,000 years ago, how come we can greatly process it when we are infants? We consumed milk since we were mammals for millions of years. Not consuming it at an older age, does not get rid of those biochemical processes we used when we consumed milk as our only source of food for our first few months.
5:35 "So that means prior to that we weren't drinking any cow milk, we weren't drinking any BULL MILK, we weren't drinking any horse milk..;" Thomas, bulls don't produce milk, welll I would say bull's milk is a milk I certainly would not drink 😂😂😂🤦🏾♂️
Great video. Thanks, Thomas! I will do that test, because I love milk and I don't feel any kind of discomfort (I think), but everybody is saying it's bad for us, so, let's test it!
Hello Thomas. Have you heard about Kefir? It's a probiotic that feeds on milk lactose (milk sugar). It's considered the second best food of the world following by eggs. It's in keto diet but I don't hear anyone talking about it. Please tell me about it. Hugs.
If I don’t have full fat dairy how do I get enough calcium for my bones? As I have found in my research, supplements are not effectively absorbed needs to be a natural dietary source. Yes there are some sources of plants but you would have to consume mass amounts which would lead to me going way over my calorie count per day. I will continue to use full fat dairy.
I am sorry, I have liked a lot of the diet information you have presented on your channel, but I am a Doctor one, and a man that has a family in cattle agriculture both Dairy and Beef two, you have no idea what you are talking about. Your concepts about hormones and antibiotics are completely incorrect and poorly stated. What's more both beef and dairy cows are not routinely "fed" antibiotics. We treat sick animals with antibiotics if they need them just like people on an individual need and then the meat and milk is withheld from the food supply until the medication is out of the animals' systems. Food (both meat and milk) that has any drug residues in them are called adulterated. Adulterated meat and milk does not make it into the human food supply. There are multiple stopping and testing points for all animal agricultural products that make it into the store and food producers that get caught selling adulterated food have major consciences.I am sorry, but your information is incorrect and the way you present it is wrong.I would be more than happy to have a conversation with you about it and would happily invite you out to the family ranch for a visit sometime.
Forks over knives documentary opened my eyes to the dairy industry and who stands to gain from it. Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, a cardiologist a Cleveland Clinic Ohio, did amazing research on dairy. I'm actively trying to reduce as much dairy as possible. It isn't easy but small steps :)
Thank you for posting this comment. I generally like this channel, but this video seemed full of unsupported conjecture. I can't find any scientific studies supporting the claims made in the video about antibiotics and hormones present in the food supply.
All dairy unless it’s clean and RAW is poison. Growth hormone antibiotics and pasteurized dairy products are about as useful to you as drinking roundup!
Hello from Canada Canadian dairy farmers do not use growth hormones such as BST or rBGH and ensure their milk is free of antibiotics. While the administration of growth hormones known as BST or rBGH to dairy cows is allowed in the US, it is illegal in Canada and therefore not permitted for use with any dairy cows.
A breath of fresh air! This guy hasn’t sold out like all the other fitness “pros” out there, well done dude, keep the content coming and the truth bombs dropping!!
I've been doing the Keto diet for the past three months, putting heavy whipping cream in my coffee, cooking with butter, and snacking on cheese. Lost 50 pounds so far. Am I doing it wrong?
