can't believe yall didn't mention the fact that Lucas Gabriel (the guy who plays Ryan) was wearing two knee braces & a back brace during I Dont Dance bc he had just had knee surgery & had also just come off of touring this film so his body was in shambles & yet this man STILL!! performed his butt off for that scene. He literally said the director would yell cut & he would collapse from all the pain he was in.

I will tell this to LITERALLY anyone who will listen: The ‘High School Franchise’ is the biggest allegory about Queerness. It’s all about coming out and enjoying yourself living your truth. Also, why is no one shipping Ryan and Chad? That’s the ‘Heartstopper’ that could’ve been.

Some movie trivia I'm shocked Zach didn't know lol: "Bet On It" was choreographed purposefully by Kenny Ortega as an allusion to Footloose! Otherwise yes it does look like an interpretive dance....arguably so does that scene in Footloose

So another fun fact: I remember the reason that they got a stunt double was that Vanessa Hudgens is allergic to chlorine. So that’s also why at the very end when she jumps in the pool, she literally starts almost drowning because she’s freaking out and swallowing the pool water

Corban’s green shirt saying in the first dance scene was picked by the viewers. I remember Disney had an online poll to choose it haha man the nostalgia

I’m surprised no one brought up the photo leak Vanessa Hudgens went through right before this movie started filming which almost got her cut, which is probably why she had a limited role in this movie…

I love watching Jarvis unleashing his undying passion for the high school musical franchise. Can’t wait for you guys to tackle hsm3 and Sharpay’s Fabulous adventure!! That spin-off movie was actually a really good thing for Sharpay’s character.

Honestly that bloody Hawaiian song 😭 I was best friends with this girl in high school who thought she was basically Sharpé and forced me and our other friends to perform that bloody song for the school talent show 😭 it was atrocious, but when I re-watched the film with my daughter recently and the song wasn't in it I was so confused and it had me thinking the entire thing was a fever dream 😣

Did anyone else become more impressed with the choreography as they got older? I loved "What Time Is It?" when I was a kid because it was fun. But re-watching it as an adult, I finally noticed how elaborate the choreography was..the attention to detail in that number is insane 👏🏾👏🏾

Ok. I'm 60-years old, and my children range in age between 21 and 39...I watched and enjoyed everything HSM, with my kids. I would consider it to still be a guilty pleasure.

absolutely, high school musical 2 is THE BEST of the franchise! i owned the dvd as a kid and i would watch it almost every day (interspersed with camp rock lol). as an aside, i never thought the way gabriella said "summer" in the beginning was horny, i just thought she was being like... wistful and yearning. but yeah, i hear it now 😅

Since you guys were talking about Hannah Montana, I think you need to watch the Hannah Montana movie for the podcast. I think Kelsey and Rainey will appreciate and voice every Hannah Montana fan’s frustration that the events of the movie had ZERO impact on the show’s storylines after the fact. Aside from that, the movie slaps and still holds u; and that’s all that really matters 😂

By sheer coincidence I watched HSM3 today and omg why did I never realise that all 3 movies have the exact same plot. Zac's performance is "Scream" is every bit as extra as Bet On It. The fact Troy thought for even a moment that he was more of a basketball kid than a theatre kid 😭😭 Gabriella even had another getaway car moment with her mother lol

I remember the dance because Disney Channel had the 5 minute cuts in between shows to teach you choreography. Those were the days 😆

EXCELLENT video!!! My favorite HSM fact is that Corbin is an *incredibly* accomplished dancer, and they finally gave him things to do in the second and third movies!

In regards to the nicknames in the yoga scene. The mum calls Sharpay "Kitten" at first. Then when talking to Ryan, she says "Duckie! How's my dashing boy?" Then she uses another name for Sharpay, "Pumpkin". AND then before she storms off, Sharpay says "OH, Namaste!"

Okay so! The talent show plot: Kelsie and Gabriela talked Troy into doing the talent show because the staff is allowed to do a number. Sharpay overhears them practicing and tells Ryan to infiltrate. She then steals that song (Music in Me) and wants Troy to do it with her because he’s been promoted from kitchen staff to golf pro. So Kelsie writes a new song for the staff, and Ryan, who’s been tossed aside, joins the staff to do their choreography and perform with them. He then helps them drag Troy away from Sharpay and Troy performs with the staff and Gabriela comes back because she just can’t stay away. EDIT: Bet On Me is spurred by Troy finding out that staff can’t perform in the show, but he’s somehow still allowed because he’s “not the same as them” according to Sharpay. So it’s not that “he and his friends” can’t perform but that his friends can’t perform and he’s somehow getting special treatment he doesn’t want As to Humahuma, the “extended edition” including the song was indeed shown on Disney Channel a couple years after the first airing, and it was released on DVD.

My whole family showed up with flowers and I was so excited then right before I was to go on and say my line the girl already onstage just blurted it out. It was indeed crushing.

I remember I had this movie on vhs recorded from the premiere and then brought it into school and watched it with my whole class. I felt the coolest cause I was the hsm hookup lolll

I remember being disappointed with the first movie: I love musicals and when this was first aired I was so hyped to see it but ultimately I was like "Huh. Oh. 😕" and I could not get why everyone was so obsessed with HSM. Then the second one came and I just loved it so much. Not so much the story and the acting was fine, but the overall movie was just way more fun and the songs stuck with me so much more. Years later I still listen to the soundtrack now and then.

I just turned 21 last month and I can stillll sing and dance to I Dont Dance and Bet On it🤣🤣🤣

I remember when this premiered on Disney Channel. Also, I rolled on the floor laughing the entire time of Bet On It, because that dancing was just so… if you’ve ever seen this children’s music group from Australia called Hi-5… it just reminded me of the two white guys in Hi-5 dancing. It was just so over the top.
