Everyone knows part three is the best part. Just use Magikarp in battle, no glitches. Can it be done? Twitch -------- jrose11 Twitter -------- / thejrose11
"Strong Pokemon. Weak Pokemon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers try to win with their favorites. I like your style. You understand what's important. Go on... the Champion is waiting". -Karen, Johto Elite Four member, after losing to a kid with nothing a shiny Magikarp. That's class.
See, try to win the real-life Pokemon World Championship with a team of 6 Unown. Yeah, not happening. Unless the gen10 pokedex only has super weak pokemon with a base stat total of no higher than 200, plus Unown
@@Moakmeister Mate firstly I'm pretty sure they weren't terribly serious and secondly you underestemate how much 1 second per battle can be in runs like this.
Also got himself worse DVs by going with a shiny (his Defense, Special, and Speed DVs were stuck at 10, decent but could have been better) and really hurt his Attack DV by using a female Magikarp (couldn't have been higher than 7). He definitely could have finished some levels lower by going with better DVs instead of a shiny.
Red: "I finally perfected the right team to be the best there ever wa.... what is that?" Jrose:.... Magikarp RED: "....." Jrose: "I'll make this quick"
I can't un-see it now that I've thought about it. Jrose: Karpe Gold, use flail! *Jrose picks up the magikarp and proceeds to beat the opposing pokemon unconscious*
Just imagine Jrose running around wielding a big golden fish like a club, smacking cocoons around until the fish learns how to flop at them of its own accord. :P
And here I was starting to worry that he had gone insane from these runs, and fled to a forest somewhere to attack random cocoons and mice with a fish. But no. He has risen from the ashes of Pokémon Blue-- not as a Phoenix, but as a golden carp god.
At first I was kind of disappointed that he used items, but 20 minutes in and it really makes so much more sense. The strategy is so much more interesting than just “level up a lot and hope for good luck.” Magikarp doesn’t have many options naturally, so items add a lot more dimension to the battles.
Also without items it's probably just flatout impossible, and the run would have become "level up to 100 and see how far we can go before we can't get any farther by just mindlessly mashing Tackle and low HP Flails".
@@JohnJonesBilly I'm guessing so. If you have the patience to get good DVs, and grind for the EVs that you want, im sure you could knock a few levels off this. Depends how much work you want to put into a meme though
I feel the need to tell you this but your videos have made these last 7-8 months a little less shit. Having a nice hour long distraction from life here and there has been great. Thank you for everything you do. :)
You know, I've been playing Pokemon since red in like '98... and I've literally never used an X item in a single game. Thanks for showing me there's a reason they keep putting them in the games, I guess!
They're basically free set-up. Say you had a Vaporeon that can't learn Calm Mind, you could boost its Sp. Atk with the X Item as if it had Growth or Calm mind. I...like never use X items, even in games like Emerald Omega where only X items are allowed in battle.
@@tjayenterprises5190 even then I dont like them. It just feels like it steals the niche of setup pokemon in my team. Why should I "waste" a slot on swords dance when x attack exists. Well since no onr is forcing me to use them I just wont use them😶
Honestly, unlike Mdbs Fossil "Joke" i think the count impression is very funny and remeberable. (No hate against MDB of course i just realy dislike that joke and the lord helix "meme" in general.)
@@Acacius1992 Agreed. That and Water Onix started making me not watch the content. The guy seems like a genuinely good guy so no dislike/hate there, its just annoying after awhile. The count thing isnt even every solo challenge video.
5:50 the AI doesn't take secondary effects into account when choosing moves, so it just thinks Tackle is stronger than Mud Slap unless there's a type advantage (such as against an Onix or Geodude).
@@crunter4270 I think it's funny coz it is refreshing, he explains a lot of stuff in his own voice and then you hear a silly voice in between so it feels good atleast to me
We all love the count impression. It's one of the things we most look forward to in your video, along with you saying "rival fiveal" Petition for silver to get his own cool name on one of his rival battles.
SO excited for this! Doing simultaneous Prof Oak runs for Emerald and HGSS and I named a Kadabra and a Magikarp after you, Jrose. Love your content and always excited to see more. :) Hoping you're well.
Its completely different for me. I always see a new jrose video was uploaded like 3 hours before I wake up in the morning so I usually watch these videos before breakfast.
@@blackcat_064 Same here, but instead it's more like 6-ish hours. I still consider JRose videos to be part of a healthy and nutritious breakfast, though.
That was a hell of a run. Great job, Jrose. Fun-fact to readers: His Shiny Magikarp, due to what DVs cause Shininess and the gender it is, was actually very disadvantaged FOR being Shiny! It has a slightly above average DV of 10 (out of 15) for Def/Spe/Spc and 2, 3, 6, or 7 for ATK. Depending on what the ATK DV was (if it was 3 or 7, good, if it was 2 or 6, bad) her HP DV was either 0 or 8.
I always drop everything I’m doing as soon as I get a notification for your videos. HW due at midnight? Pshh, who needs an education I need to know how fast JRose cane beat a game with a Magirkarp 😤
Dude if your homework was due at midnight, chances are you had at least a few days to upload it beforehand, so you could have just done earlier and not have this dilemma!
I never much thought of Bugsy as the weakest Gym Leader, to be honest. Even considering the point of the game you fight him at, Falkner was always easier than Bugsy for me. I use Quilava, and that Scyther still kicks my butt a decent amount of the time.
Bugsy is definitely far from the easiest Gym Leader even in just Gen 2 when Scyther is a really strong pokemon for such an early point in the game (500 BST with very high Attack and Speed while you're using first stage com mons and a mid-evolved starter at best) and Fury Cutter can actually be dangerous if you lack the means to KO Scyther quickly (which will probably be the case if you didn't pick Cindiquil nor are using a Geodude or Onix at a high enough level to have Rock Throw).
Yeah, I was confused by that as well. Bugsy isn't easiest in his game, let alone in the series. Chuck and Price are much easier and Scyther alone is harder than all of X/Y,
U only really lose to Falkner if its a speed run or like a solo run or both lol bugsy really hard if solo run, speed run, or using like a grass type lol. morty mabe be a bit easier if u take advantage of switch tactics against curse
I gasped so HARD when the aerodactyl was in low HP and I thought it was over for you. But Luck is always on your side! Thank you for the amazing videos! Keeps me company when I'm working long shifts. Keep up the amazing runs!
Hell yes! I was so eager to see more of your content, and I really do appreciate the time and effort you put into these. And considering how painful and tiresome these runs can be, especially with things like Magikarp and Ditto, I cannot emphasize this enough; excellent work!
Main thing I've learned watching these... ALWAYS count on a badly timed critical hit. I don't care what else is going on, if I'm in range for a critical hit to KO me, HEAL.
Man the finale was amazing ahahaha and I was actually going to comment that the next (maybe final) step is the item less run. Great work, loved the run and I am waiting for more solo runs. I just discovered your channel about a month ago but I have already seen almost all your videos , thank you for the amazing content
I just wanted to say, thank you so much for doing these challenges! You've inspired me to do my own, but most importantly these videos are what are getting me through this year! Keep up the amazing work!
You joke about doing Magikarp itemless at the end, but I gotta say, I wonder if it's actually possible to do it itemless. Either way, this was super impressive. Thank you for the video!
Aarantula did that run recently and yes, it is possible. It is not consistent, it required to reach level 100 and it involved luck in the battle against Red but it is possible.
I LOVE this! Itemless runs are okay but as you said, and I agree, they remove a lot of possible strategies in favor of simply leveling up or luck to overcome the challenge. Happy Halloween!
@@kouron He said on Twitter he was doing an insanely difficult run, but that was after Emerald Ditto. I asked him on stream a few weeks ago and it was on ice due to being so tedious. My guess was no attacking moves, which I know he has tried as well.
I love this channel and been watching for years. I think you make some of the most entertaining challenge runs. Up there with SmallAnt. Seeing you do more of other gens would be cool too
I discovered your channel few days ago, and I'm kinda addict to it now ^^. You seem to be a very kind person; full of passion. Keep up the amazing work !
No, just normal Magikarp. Shiny Magikarp's animation makes it take extra long to do because of the shiny animation, and then the world ends before you can do it
@@JoelTheParrot It certainly comes into play all the time, as it means he has to level up a lot more to get a sufficiently high enough Attack to reach vital KO benchmarks, making the run take even longer. For example, the max possible Attack he could have had at the level 93 he finished as with a female Magikarp was 95, while with a max Attack DV Magikarp he could have reached that 95 Attack at level 80, so he could have beat Red up to potentially a whopping 13 levels sooner, saving a ton of time on grinding (in practice he probably couldn't have won quite that much lower, as level influences the damage too and he might have missed some needed bulk benchmarks at level 80, but you get the idea on how much more levels he needed to get the Attack needed to win).
Thank you JRose for all of your hard work and dedication to this channel and it’s content! Your commitment to this series has made these videos so enjoyable and entertaining. On behalf of all your fans, thank you so much!
YES STRATEGY! Joking aside, one thing I admire and enjoy about your runs is that you do your hardest to come up with viable strategies. Thank you for being awesome!
MY MAN IS BACK AND EARLIER THAN I EXPECTED! ILL COMMENT EVERY VIDEO IF THAT GETS YOU TO POST MORE OFTEN. Fucking love watching your runs. Out of all the people I watch, yours are just so entertaining.
I'm going to watch this when I get up 8 hours from now, I know very well what you produce is really amazing content. I want to say thank you good sir for helping someone like me through hard times, through your content I have laughed. I have even cried all by myself. Please do not stop doing as you are, I'm glad you have us more content. I understand you're busy, I understand through that it takes you a while to give us amazing content like this. I hope that you're being safe good sir, I hope the same for everyone else who is here watch and supporting this great content creator. I wish you all a great day, a great night and a safe and happy life.
The amount of patience you have with making these videos is one of the reasons I subbed to you. Seeing the struggle (no pun intended) you have to go through would drive me absolutely insane. Keep up the awesome work. Also, would love to see a Magnemite only run
