You bring up Harley and Indian. These are luxury bikes where entry level bikes brand new are 15k once you pay the taxes, get insurance and put a tag on it. There are a lot of other much more affordable options and better entry options that are in the 5k range when we’re in the middle of an affordability crisis.

I would expect, with the crazy prices for cars since the pandemic, more people are considering motorcycles.

US Harley sales in the US are up 6%. We really don't give a d*** about the ones overseas.

I live in a warm weather climate where you can ride year round, with a bit of extra clothes during winter months. I commute to/from work nine months a year. From my own observation, I seem to see as many law enforcement motorcycles on the road as private motorcycles. Also, if you are an apartment dweller (I am not), it is difficult to own a motorcycle, as you would have to be concerned about theft. Lastly, check the websites in your area that offer MSF courses and see how many open slots there are for classes. I do this in my area, and it is mostly the case that you will have to apply for a class a month ahead, as the classes seem to be booked solid a month in advance.

The hobby of motorcycles and aircraft is similar. Yes, they are fun to operate. But affordability and practicality are not 2 words said about either.

Motorcycling will always be a luxury. Similar to owning a classic car, a exotic car, a boat, a plane. Very few have it. It is a luxury that some will never experience. We are the fortunate ones to experience it. And if you have that luxury, some barely even ride/drive them. Even though registration is high, there's plenty of motorcycles, just sitting in garages, barns, auction lots, and dealerships that are not being ridden. Great video👍🏿. Stay safe!!

It's all those old guys buyin dual sports instead of big cruisers. I mean, dirt road travel has exploded in growth this past decade. The off-road market seems very robust these days

A lot of people don't have the money or the funds to buy a motorcycle or insurance for them, plus the fact that you can't go above the suggest speed limit. Here's the thing, if the dealerships get together and make a track to ride them on in each state it might give people the incentive to travel, See other states, and possible race on the dealerships tracks that they can safely ride on and test skills, and meet ups with trainers that will provide classes to upgrade their road and track skills, well at least that what id do if i had a dealership! I really wish they bring back more kick start and maybe hook some type of EMP device hook up to the bike for extra protection, But that just me thinking ahead! :)

Did I not hear correctly, you only mentioned Harley and Indian reporting numbers going down. I'm a canadian 45+ year old army vet who has missed offroading now that I'm a civy. Adv and dual sport make sense for me. But why would I risk $15k and buy a Harley that I'll expect to break down instead of a ktm, or kawaski or honda. If I'm heading to tour, wouldn't it make sense to go to a bmw gs or yamaha?

Honda beats Harley in price and seclection. You need at least 14k to buy into a new basic Harlley with only one or two options. For that price you have a lot of options with Honda's. I think the precived cost of ownership with a Harley is way higher than Honda. It does not matter if Harley Dealers are everywhere if you can not afford the service. 3 holes for an oil change vs the 1 on the Honda. Honda's may be plain jane bikes, but keeping it simple and reliable goes a long way.
