This is the most UNDERRATED player of ALL TIME!!!!! 3rd all time in assists.. He averaged 9.4 assists per game throughout his career in Phoenix alone. Led the league in assists 5 times, essentially dominating the passing game in the 2000's. Ninth all time in 3 point shooting percentage and he wasn't even a specialized shooter. 4 seasons where Nash recorded 40% from 3, 50% from the field and 90% from the line... and was one free throw shy of 5.. most all time by far. The best free throw shooter in the history of the game at 90.43% which is unheard of. But the BIGGEST reason why he was underrated wasn't his stats.. but the way he played the game.. there will never be a more intelligent, cunning and artistic guard like him ever again.. his no looks, behind the backs and through opponent leg passes are strange to this sport.. he's really only appreciated by soccer fans because his play is reminiscent of Lionel Messi, just absolute brilliance every time he touched the basketball. For fuck sake he gave Stoudemire perfect passes with his head and feet at the 2005 slam dunk contest. And even more, he was a ruthless sniper from beyond the arc... Every time this man shot a 3 it didn't just go in, he swished it... The ONLY REASON Steph Curry is even a thing is because Nash didn't style his game after the three point shot... because if Steve actually looked to style his game as a shooter rather than a passer he would have probably been hailed as the best shooter in history and Steph would have been what James is to Jordan.. an afterthought. He was such a perfect shooter in fact that when he would miss a free throw (usually in an out the rims) the crowd and announcers would be stunned that it was possible... I'd trust Nash taking a shot over Steph, and he wasn't even a shooter. Most Underrated player BY FAR... it's not even close, the only reason he never won a ring was playing for really really shit defensive teams.

Y’all say Harden was an undisputed MVP playing in the D’Antoni 2.0 System but act like Nash doesn’t deserve his MVP’s because he’s a “system player” in the same offense. Smh the hate too real 🤦‍♂️
@mackenziemacdonald1197
@mackenziemacdonald1197 5 лет назад
I agree. MVP should be given to the MOST IMPACTFUL PLAYER and Nash was just that. Like LBJ is every year. I don't believe Harden was MVP or should ever be do to his consistent lack of effort on defense. Even though LBJ isn't always consistent on defense but he still has a much larger impact in other major areas than Harden . I sometimes feel that if you replace Harden with KD, or a Curry-type you would get a similar result that the Rockets got. Where-as, if LBJ was on the Hawks last year they would at least make it to the playoffs, and I don't believe any other player could do that solo!

If you put harden and Nash 1v1 harden will destroy Nash on both sides of the ball rebounds everything. Nash is overrated because he is an average guy passing the ball to above average (ability wisely) nba players does absolutely nothing impressive NOTHING he understands angles and how to get his teammate a high quality shot but those shots came through constant motion not because they had to double team Nash but through motion and double teams on amare... the lakers probably had to double because they had smush Parker at PG

In my opinion, the Suns system was successful because of Steve Nash, not the other way around. I remember when he got injured and the Suns lost like 9 of the 11 games he sat out. That team wouldn’t have done nearly as much if you replaced him. Also this man just said the 3rd all time assists leader wouldn’t be a hall of famer if he didn’t win MVP bruh come on.

@Ice Sickle Stockton just didn't have the same run & gun style as Nash. He created the system in Phoenix that is the prototype for what many teams do now. It's just that Nash didn't have enough shooters around him. If Joe Johnson stayed, they would have won titles. Just one more gun and that would have put them over the top. Coaching and the GM's mistakes are why Nash didn't get over the hump.

The example doesn't matter. I'm only commenting on the reasoning you use. Every player who averaged over 18-3-3 should be in the HOF? Obviously not. Why are people always making this hard? You ask how Nash never made it to an NBA Finals but won 2 regular season MVPs. Easy. Basketball is a team game, MVP is an individual award, and a regular season award at that, when they don't go all out on defense and they pace themselves. Yes, I know how all of you want to create this narrative that a truly great player can do most of the heavy lifting himself, but history has shown that nobody, not even MJ, was able to do it by themselves. We just gave the award to Westbrook. And Harden. Post season chokers. Why are we wondering about Nash? We have a well-documented history of giving that trophy to the undeserving, and often to someone who is NOT the best player in the league that season. So why should Nash be any different?

Okay so first off, I like you and your videos. But I have to be HONEST here. Steve Nash might be a little overrated, but you make it sound like he is a damn scrub. Nash was one of the most unlucky players in history (2005 agiesnt the Spurs, Amare's neck injury in the 2007 playoffs, his own thigh injury in 2008). He also consistently made the WCF in the West, which during that time period was essentially the NBA finals when you consider the talent gulf between east and west. Is it his fault that he was on a top 3 team every year that simply wasn't quite the best? Would you have taken his team over the supporting cast of the Spurs, Lakers, Mavs, or Rockets, not to mention the half dozen other secondary contenders. Is it his fault that Mike D'Antoni was notorious for his HORRIBLE playcalls and choices in the clutch, to the point where it was a meme how he could never beat Pop (he still never has btw). Steve Nash is a HOFer but its safe to say hes overrated. He has as many MVPs as Shaq Kobe and DWade combined. Let that sink in for a minute. Those 3 guys have a combined 12 championships. They were All Nba Defensive players as well as All Nba offensive players who could will their team to a victory by dropping 40points on any given night. Nash could never do that and if he could it would be immediately irrelevant because his defensive level is on par with James Harden. Harden averaged 36ppg and close to 10 assists his mvp year and didnt even make the finals. Nash like Harden are huge liabilities on the defensive side of the court.

In that 2009 season coach Porter tried to make the suns a defensive team, and all suns fans know that Nash and Amar'e, the teams best players, were not defensive players. And Porter was definitely lacking in the offensive side of the ball. Nash was never the type of player that had the killer instinct. If you're a stats guy, of course you would want him to shoot more because he was so effecient but we all know stats don't tell the whole truth. He was a team first player, he made everyone better with his passing. Even at the latter of his career, the suns were a .500 team during a lock out season, to a 25 win team once he left.

You know who had 12 million less than the suns? The 27th place New Orleans (53 million). The suns in regards to salary were pretty close to the median for the league. So yes, when it came to building a championship team, the suns were in fact kind of cheap.

I never expected the suns to win anything any year because I know Nash was just regular season sauce just like harden but harden wasn’t bestowed mvp over somebody else that deserved it like this years mvp was either giannis or bron what if they gave it to... never mind it doesn’t compare Nash is such a weak mvp ability wise it’s hard to compare to harden who can do so much more with his body. Nash never was the best basketball player in the world for 1 year that’s what mvp means to me it’s like performance is one thing but who is clearly the best basketball player side by side Nash was never the best or top 5 in those years he won... his team won but Nash walking on the court and Kobe or lebron walking on the court even Larry bird walking on the court or ai walking on the court is just different.

Steve Nash should’ve made the finals and should’ve won a chip. When Robert Horry threw Nash into the scorers table at game 4 of the 2007 WCF Amar’e Stoudemire (Who, might I add, was on the All-NBA First Team that year) and Boris Diaw (Extremely Versatile do-it all Player who averaged 8 points to go along with 4 rebounds and four assists) got suspended from game 5 because they got on the court (didn’t even participate in the ensuing fight) and because of this the Suns got beat in game 5, on their own home court, by 3 points. It’s fair to say that with Stoudemire they would’ve won that game 5 bringing them up 3-2 and even if they still lost game 6 they probably would have won game 7 on their home court. They were a better team than the Spurs, who beat the Cavs in 4, so it’s fair to say they were a better team than the Cavs as well, and probably would have trashed them in 4-6 games. Also, while it is fair to say Dirk and LBJ could have won the MVP in ‘07 there was no way Nash didn’t deserve it in ‘06, cause back then the MVP was less of a stat based award and more a storyline/win/affect on team award, and that was a year Nash changed a 20 win team to a 62 win one, while putting up great stats and changing the way the game was played. Also, like I said it was less a statline and more a storyline based NBA, so saying Kobe should have won in ‘06 is really dumb considering his team won less games than WBs in ‘17 despite having the same level, if not less help, and the storyline would have been ‘Kobe can’t win without Shaq, let’s shit hit the floor, blows 3-1 lead’ and you might say that the MVP is a regular season award, and if that’s so why are most if not all of your anti-MVP points playoff based?

He was the best pg in the league for how long? I guess by the same logic of never making a Finals Chris Paul is overrated and Jason Kidd was a better player than him? Your tripping the man pioneered a style of bssketball that didn't exist at the time. Other players have done it better since but they had Steve Nash to learn from, he was the first "efficient ball dominant guard " to push the pace of play. His teammate are not in the same category as Kobe and Duncan's who won 10 championships over the span of Nash carrier Bottomline he ran into better players with more talented teams. I'm not even a fan but I get tired of people pushing this narrative that if you don't win a ring your some trash ass athlete who never amounted to anything. Its the reason why guess like Durant make punk moves because of the judgement that's passed on them by fans and the media. Also since when is it a bad thing to excel in a system set up by your coaching staff? I thought that was their job to put you in a position to succeed. Now he's not one of the most efficient players the league has ever seen he's a role player playing in a good system come on. MVP is a regular season award FYI it has nothing to do with finals and championships. The Sun's went wherever Nash took then that's why he was MVP because on the back of a 30 year old 6 foot something guard that looked like he should of been in dental school the sun's out up multiple 50 plus win seasons.

Wait if the 2007 Spurs weren't this unbeatable team. Why do we give Lebron this universal pass for getting swept in 07? When no espn analyst had them going less than 5 games. Keep in mind the cavs and spurs were 60 win teams. Even when you watch game 4 on youtube Jeff Van Gundy, Mike Breen, and Mark Jackson are critical of Lebrons effort and seem puzzled as to why the sweep was happening because the talent gap between the teams wasn't apparent for them to see. What I'm getting at is great players don't always win rings or play great in the playoffs, the same way that the smartest kid in the class doesn't always get straight A's or how Harvards Valedictorian doesn't always go on to become a millionaire, but it doesn't take away from their accomplishments or capabilities.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! I was done at the 1:17 mark when you said Steve Nash was overrated. Stop making videos and polling people who dont know anything about basketball. Steve Nash beat dirk, kobe and tim duncan in the playoffs. How can you be overrated when you are beating all time greats in the playoffs? Lets talk facts, when he was with dallas they made the WCF against the spurs and Dirk got hurt in game 3 and missed the rest of the series. He goes to the suns at team that won 28 games and were then a 58 win team and once again got to the WCF and guess what he had no Joe Johnson who broke his face in the dallas series. The suns didnt want to pay joe johnson, que richardson and steven hunter so all those dudes are gone. Amare gets hurt and crazy thing is they still make the WCF and he beat kobe in the process after Kobe was up 3-1 and to add to it Steve Nash made kobe quit in game 7. Kobe was called out for quitting and had to go on TnT to defend himself. Lets please talk about the 2007 Western semi finals. The series where for some reason the suns player get suspended for leaving the bench but for some reason tim duncan and bruce bowen dont get suspended after elson dunks on james jones and they get off the bench quickly after they bump chests. Do you realize that every team in the 2000's ruffed up steve nash in the playoffs. The spurs alone broke his nose, took out one of his eyes and hip checked him into the scorers table with 3 seconds left in the game. Against the lakers Kwame brown checked steve nash on a pick and roll and raja bell shortly clothes lined kobe. I love how Steve Nash is the best point guard in the NBA from 2003-2010 and he is some how overrated. He beat stockton, mike bibby, chauncey billups, tony parker, sam cassell just to note some in the playoffs. A guy who is Mr 50-40-90 for a season and only played better in the playoffs like when he averaged 33 points and 14 assist a game vs the mavs in that playoff series. At that time the WC was so damn stacked! To say he's overrated just because they didn't make the finals is harsh given the elite teams that were around back then. Yes 2 MVPs is a stretch but that team was so good and so great to watch and he was the linchpin of the offence. He is probably one of the best shooters in NBA history (50/40/90 career is elite!) one of the best passers in NBA history and had one of the greatest basketball minds at the time. I really don't feel like Nash is overrated. He was very consistent, even late in his career. Sure the Suns system helped, but Nash was still a very good player in Dallas and L.A. Without Nash the Suns would not have been as great as they were. If he had stayed in Dallas he might have had a chance to win a ring there too(ik he didn't win in Phoenix but he had chances) Every body has a way they like to play, you can't criticize him for that. And he won MVP not because of his raw stats, he won because of the huge impact. Not saying him not winning a ring isn't on him at all, but he did have some unfortunate circumstances people might not know about. Watch Mike Korzemba's vid for more info on that

I like the vid and the argument(s), so I gotta ask. I too have a James Harden jersey in my closet, James Harden also flourished under the Coach D’Antoni systems, has disappeared in playoff series, and is currently in the running for his 2nd mvp. Would you consider him to be overrated or a system player? What’s your opinion on him?
@SirDrauss
@SirDrauss 5 лет назад
stoic romulan true, but one thing I feel about harden games or at least the development of it, is that it is a product of the nba currently. From the officials’ rulings to analysts’ stats (I.e. win shares, less twos more threes etc), harden has flourished. In a different era we’d see the same Harden making the rulings and stats of that time advantageous for himself. Don’t you agree? At the base of his game, he’s still an all star if not superstar. I see the system player part of Harden, but overrated. We don’t really overate him, because we still hold him accountable for the playoffs chokes, defense, drawing fouls , step back travels etc. The mvp is a season award and in last season he and Houston did their thing.

It's simple their record drastically improved by 33 games with Nash from the year before and they didn't run a set offense it was up to Nash to create offense as he would decide either through pick and roll , driving to the basket and dishing or scoring himself just as a true point guard should . That first MVP season they were eliminated after Joe Johnson ( a major piece of the offense and teams success ) suffered a major injury fracturing his eye socket in the playoffs against Dallas keeping him out of the first 2 games of the Western Conference Finals against the Spurs and the Suns loosing those two home games and the series in 5 . Johnson just wasn't the same when he returned . The second MVP season Nash lost All Star Amar'e Stoudemire and his 26 ppg and 8.9 rebounds to injury 3 games into the season and still managed a career-best 18.8 points per game and he had one of his most efficient seasons shooting the ball while leading the league with 10.5 assists per game and helped six of his teammates average career-highs in scoring and led the Suns to 54 wins but it was a tall task to defeat that 67 win team in Dallas missing his All Star power forward or who knows how that season could have ended . So no he wasn't overrated , he produced ! He just lost major components those 2 seasons and is deserving of his Hall of Fame induction and is one of the major reasons for the change in the offensive game today !

There is no argument for Kobe deserving the mvp over Steve Nash in 06. I'm tired of hearing people saying that. Finally someone talking about Dirk as the most obvious candidate, although I still believe Nash deserved it. Mike D'Antoni is one of the most overrated coaches in NBA history. If you look at his coaching career, his "system only works when he has a star guard to facilitate it. The narrative of Steve Nash being a system player is false. He made that system. In 06, Steve Nash lost his second best player for the entire season along with multiple injuries to many other important player son the team, Steve Nash still managed to get a top 4 record in the NBA. He also did this while leading the league in assists, having his mist points per game of his career and having one of the most efficient shoot years ever going 52/44/92. Steve Nash is a top 5 point guard all time. Maybe top 3. He is no where near overrated

Shaq in '05, and Kobe in '06, SERIOUSLY, didn't deserve to win MVPs; even if Nash hadn't of won them. Let's not forget that the HEAT were in a weak Eastern Conference, Shaq was past the tipping point, in his decline phase (even in '05), and it's not like Shaq had one of his better seasons. Above anything, he had JUST been a huge part as to why a dynasty was broken up. You want to reward him right after that happened? MVP to guy who walked away from winning, to winning on something closer to on his own terms? That's not selfish? Kobe in '06, sure, he had a great year. But any greater than LeBron the same year? I don't see it. And as goes with Shaq, this was less than 2 years after Kobe refused to continue on as Shaq's sidekick (as he said to Phil Jackson), breaking up a dynasty for personal reasons. I don't see why you'd want to honor either completely selfish players. Of note, Shaq (and Kobe) always get on Nash for winning that MVP, yet, why can't Shaq ever go after the year A.I. won it? Shaq was at his absolute best then! Is it easier to do because A.I. has all of the street cred in the world, so that wouldn't be too cool? I think I know why Shaq (and Kobe) go after Nash, and it's because he's an easier target (who's not viewed as being as cool as A.I.).

The suspension also included Boris Diaw, Alvin Gentry was the coach in 2010 so he did it without Dantoni, also the reason they say he didn’t have enough help is because normally when a team has a poor defensive PG they have a center in the paint to help cover that up and the suns to this date have never had a good center let’s hope Deandre Ayton changes that and too add on the the lack of help theory he had the Stat injury along side a consistent flow of roster changes and the suns were probably only 6 deep an never had a backup for Nash Sarver traded TONS of draft picks in the Dantoni era including a top 10 pick that was Loul Deng and Rajon Rondo... So Sarver ignorance and the lack of a deep roster is why we never won and the refs didn’t help either saying he’s overrated is ridiculous if not showing up in big moments makes you overrated a lot of players are overrated

Honestly I think Steve Nash is rated appropriately, not overrated. No one speaks of him as if he is top 10 all time or anything. To me he is around top 30-40 all time and arguably a top 10 PG of all time which is impressive. He was amazing in those years in Phoenix, I was a huge fan of his and wish he would have at least made the Finals. It just was never meant to be for him which is a shame. But I never watched the Suns lose and thought that it was because of him. If anything, I think he deserved to win a couple of years and didn't, especially 2007 against the spurs, because losing Amare AND Diaw was a huge reason the lost! I saw that series and they looked like the better team.

I don't think people understand what a system player is.. A Guy shooting 50-40-90 percent who could drop 20 points effortlessly and being able to get 10+ assists for multiple seasons can't be a system player. The guys who are system players are the ones scoring because of the system, typically 3 point specialists or Bigs who can't create offense but gets freebies from their point guard/system. Nash was so unselfish it hurt his scoring stats because he easily could've been a 20-25 point scorer if he chose to be. If he played today with the D'antoni he would average 24+ points because the coach would ask him to score more. Did you even watch Nash break down the defense by himself? NO "SYSTEM" PLAYER CAN DO THAT. His biggest strength was passing so of course you should want to play fast and give him 4 options to pass too. That's the fucking point of trying to make a successful team. Trying to build around your best player, NO "SYSTEM" PLAYER CAN HAVE A TEAM BUILT AROUND THEM, system players are the guys you put to play around a superstar, or to help run the offense. The guy who is soley running the offense isn't a fucking system player. A System playter would be fucking Gary Neal, remember when he torched the Heat in the 2013 finals? The Spurs just let him walk the next offseason cause he was just another system player and it doesn't hurt them. Neal was on 7 teams in 4 seasons and is now out of the league. overusing words just to get a fucking click and trying to bring down a HOF player's career, guess what, he's still in the HOF and had his career was solidified by other great basketball minds and not some average joe. The fact you compared Nash to Ben Wallace and how Ben struggles to get into the HOF made me done with this vid. Yes he's a great Defensive Center, but he was a role player. He's going to struggle when his career averages are 5.7 points 9.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. He will have to wait until there is a weak HOF class to try and get in, other players have just made more impact to basketball which is why he will have to wait, Yao got in because he was an all-star for a while and made a HUGE impact in the world of basketball.
