Is the NEW 2024 Hyundai Elantra a BETTER sedan to BUY than a Honda Civic? 

I know pre refresh people didn’t like the styling but in my opinion the refresh looks better especially up front. I like what they did there

The face lift was really needed. This car only needs minor tweaks to be a stellar car. Its still a great choice for a comuter car.

Like the change to the lower bumper. Also noticeable updates to the headlights (now bi-color daytime running light which is now also the turn signal, so fewer incandescent bulbs. Also they moved the side marker from above the drl to under it which is a nice touch and welcome change)

The technology is just insane for the price! I think the Elantra better than the Civic for what it offers. I’m loving the refresh of the new DRL headlights. It’s now looks more premium. Very “Germanic” in styling, but with some aggressive and futuristic Korean elements. I still thinks the side of the car with the Z shaped lines is unique and definitely bold. Joe always zonks the corner window. I actually like how it is now. It looks more like a coupe that way. The Elantra Limited Hybrid is the one to get. It offers ventilated seats and memory seats. Something that is not offered on the Civic. Also, a digital key, 64 color ambient lighting, blindspot cameras (I know Civic had it first on previous generations, but Hyundai execute the setup way better) Smart truck release, 360 camera, and lumbar support is also not offered on the Civic.

11:59 - I was thinking that it is magnetic that it is used to mount your phone if it has a magnet at its back, especially if you have an iPhone 12 or any later iPhone model that has a MagSafe case. You might notice that the Ioniq 5 and 6 have this magnetic surface to attach your phone next to their gauge cluster displays.

I like everything about the Elantra but the key buttons ,and the way its shape to. Plus it makes people think you got a older crappy Hyundai with that key... But it was creative that Hyundai put/made the logo on the key

After researching debating which one to get the I’d prefer the Elantra , I think civic messed up by not including blind side monitoring untill you spend at least 27k

I think the N-Line is the max model you can buy Joe. Fully loaded with the 1.6L Turbo and 18" wheels. Can't wait for that review from you. I think that's the real steal of a deal car of the year.

What a handsome car! I just wish the rear turn signals were led as well instead of the edison lightbulbs lol. As for the ventilated seats are they not available in the highest trim hybrid? Really looking at this car to buy. Its definitely an improvement over the previous model.

Had a 2021 Limited, Love it as a leased car…. Upgraded to the 2024 limited, nice upgraded features. Love the car so far. If I have as good luck with this one, will be super happy. Highly recommend this car.

I love my 2023 Hyundai Elantra N-line ultimate but I think the refresh is def better for the normal trims for 2024 Elantras. I'm not a fan of the front changes on the 2024 Elantra N-line. I think they didnt bring the DTR lights going all the way across the front because the 2024 Sonata got that on its refresh which I'm excited to see you review if you the chance :D In any case love the overall looks and both KIA and Hyundai doing so well in terms of body lines and futuristic light design the past 2 yrs and excited to see what more will come.

I like the turn signal camera's would be nice - my '21 Preferred (middle model - I get the base heating controls, but leather heated wheel instead in this market) - I find the blind spot monitors work well but I get confused trying to pin point what they are worried about sometimes. Oh the iVT uses a very expensive chain instead of the belt and cones - allows no slipping and the shift points do not need to be pre-determined upon assembly (so the computer can adjust them "on the fly"); more costly to make but "in theory" more durable.

Can't wait for you to do an Elantra N line review of this 2024 model. I have a 2023 and love it so far (basically a cheaper Civic Si especially since i got at MSRP) but I hope the 2024 gets rid of the DCT but still keeps the fun driving dynamics the Kona N line has.

Surprised you didn't mention anything about the Hyundai "h" badges on the front and back. They are very thin and look so much better than the previous facelift chrome ones that stick out

The side angle shapes stand out way more then my black 2022 but I love the angles. I also like my 2022 front grill more than the 2024 and yes the lights should run all the way across the nose

i think the center bar is ok, in my opinion it seems to sort of differentiate the driver side from the passenger side, its kinda cool

Looks like a good all-around value. Wondering what you could push it with to get it up to 124 mph. I might try to save up a few more $ and see about getting the Civic.

I like halogen bulbs. Cheaper and easier to replace instead of proprietary LED lense assembly. Plus can sometimes buy LED bulbs in the same size.

I have a 2019 Elantra sport with DCT. I do like the looks of the 24 Elantra but the transmission went out on mine at 30k miles took 2 months in the shop to fix lucky was under warranty and gave me a rental. I’m leaning more towards the civic for my next car.

Nice refresh. I actually love the hybrid version of this for 25k and gets over 50mpg combined.

I drove the Elantra 2023 yesterday for about 1,000 km, and I have driven a civic as well. Right off the bat, seats were really comfortable however, the driving experience wasn't as good as the Honda Civic's. Loved the tech and comfort and the gas economy but felt like something was missing.

I love my 23’ sel, I didn’t want a turbo or the maintenance that comes with it

I have a 2023 limited in intense blue metallic. I wish my 23 had the lane change cameras and 360 camera. Otherwise I don’t like the new front end

I drove a hybrid limited in 2022 when looking for a car and there were 3 zonks for me that were enough to say no thanks. It didn't have much passing power in the 50mph range (biggest zonk), and the other 2 were the death star and the o crap handle. For 30k I didn't want the ugly bar or all the dead space of the death star

I'll still take the Civic be cause I've driven Hondas since 2012 . Right now I have a 2023 Odyssey.

I wound up taking the 23 SEL fully loaded cause couldn't wait on the '24s to hit lots. Even on the 23 I went SEL just cause I hated the cloth door panels n leather seating mixup just seemed not right... all and all I had civic and for it's price this is really good car, civic is tad more fun but this feels more upscale for it's price point...

Nice review Joe, I do have the 2021 Limited, I like the design and the tech, couldn’t have asked for better, but it’s just unacceptable that we don’t have heated steering wheel and memory seats option on the limited trim. I’ve put 70k miles on it so far and Speaking of reliability not the best, I don’t think I’ll ever buy a Hyundai again as much as I love the brand and what they’re doing but at some point they need to slow down and invest more on the build quality of these cars. Everything is excellent with this vehicle my only one zong like I said it’s just not reliable.

This refresh should get people hyped up about the mid-cycle refresh Elantra N in the next couple of months before the end of the year. Even if not much changes on the refresh until the next gen Elantra N when they ditch the 2.0T Veloster N/Elantra N engine in favor of the 2.5T Stinger GT-Line/G70 2.5T/Sonata N-Line engine, the next gen Elantra N with the 2.5T should be a lot more stout and powerful as a GR Corolla and FL5 Civic Type R, but still the most lightest in its high-performance segment. Any changes or updates and upgrades the current gen/upcoming mid-cycle refresh the Elantra N will be worthy and welcomed.
