Hey Shane! We appreciate the honest review! It's awesome to hear how much you like your old ketal. We would love to hear your opinion of the new ketal when you have a chance to get some use out of it! If you have any issues don't hesitate to reach out to us and we will get you taken care of!
Make it so that the kettle lid opening is slightly larger so that the gsi outdoors steel 1.1 liter boiler can fit in it to make them stackable and a perfect 4 person, cook system.
Thanks for the comment. I’m sticking by my guns. Your company has always in the past out so much detail in the small areas that could yet like hinges and tack welds even the neoprene sleeves that are easy to clean and and allow a persons to pack away gear almost Immediately after cleaning/ usage etc. the old school kettle was a bomb proof item that avid outdoors people bought because it was so rigid. I don’t have a number of sales etc for the kettle but I know this, quality items will sell in the outdoor community. We want items that will take a beating and can be passed down. Your stainless products could be the pinnacle of outdoor gear, more so that it already is. You know the industry your selling to. I’m only one guy with a little voice, I will run this kettle though the paces along with some of the other stuff I ordered from your site. I want to believe you are still the GSI that I have relied on so many time while having outdoor adventures.
The Ketalist 2 kit is such a great product. Unbeatable value and performance in the lightweight Halulite kit. Most folk will use a lightweight alcohol burner with this product especially in fire-sensitive areas, so they’re hardly likely to melt the silicone handle coverings. The thought that has gone into the design (saving weight) are very well executed without compromise. It is not a huge let-down as is being suggested here. I prefer the new product. The Halulite model has riveted handle bosses, not spot welds as shown on the stainless kettle here, I’m sure the weld spots are equally as good as they were in the original kettle, though; it even comes with a mesh bag, so you don’t lose the lid, if you decide that you don’t want to carry an elastic band to retain it (which could also be achieved by a slight outward tweak of the lid rim with a pliers - but remember, you do need to fill the kettle and put any stove items and cups inside it when transporting, so if doing so - don’t overdo it!). Either way, it’s totally perfect for the design purpose, ie to boil water, not to fend off a bear attack! Hats off to GSI, and at under 12.5 ounces all up - check it out.
Awesome Review,,, I think,,, Compared to your other videos, the recording volume is quite low,,, or your speaking very softly,,, I’ll try to listen when Iam out of this Tractor,,,,
Thanks man sorry. It was a 3am video. Lol. I got home from work and opened it up. I’ll be using it this week to get use out of it and see what it can go through.
I was looking at that pretty hard the other day. I was almost tempted to get it but I have cook sets I know what to do with 🤣🤣 Thanks for the video brother
I noticed this a while ago. I’ve been replacing the kettles in my Trangia 25 kits with these for years. Luckily three out of my four kits have the older style. There was a while where I couldn’t find the standalone kettles. Eventually I picked up a kettalist and ditched the cups. Either version will hold the alcohol burner, pot gripper AND the generic butane burner. The standard aluminum Trangia 25 kettle will also hold these items but it’s trickier loading. I can thankfully report that the new one DOES still fit in a 25, even with the cutting board. I haven’t used it a ton honestly but it seems ok. I see what you’re saying though.
See if you can find an old School Ketalist or check out this kettle. It’s beefy and stainless steel. I use it in my Hot Tent firemaplegear.com/products/antarcti-stainless-steel-kettle
@@Thereal111t no but I checked your RU-vid channel and that’s a great price. I also subscribed. I think I’ll get one for that price you can’t go wrong. I have a Trangia 27 already but hey, one can never have enough camping gear lol. Thanks!
Great comparison Shane. My issue with the new one is the D Ring on the lid does not stand up on it's own which can make it difficult to remove the lid, especially when it is hot. I guess time will tell on the rest of your concerns, but I will agree that the original version (I have as well) seams to a little more robust. I am not planning on using then new version on anything other than a stove so I am not concerned about the plastic coating melting on the handle.
For sure man. I’ll be running it through the paces to see how it hold up. I want to do the company justice since they deserve it. One way or the other. They have always had solid stuff. I’m just not sure about this one.
@@Shanecoffeyoutdoors Yeah that older GSI you've got looks to have a little bigger opening than the fire Maple. And looks a little easier to cook in and clean. It's contoured less on the sides. I do like the concave lid for coals on the fire Maple lid .
This kettle is better. The reason why the handle hinges move is so that the handle can stay fixed unlike the first one. You seem to be knitpicking. I have the old and new ones. The new one's lid doesn't fall out like yours when you put it sideways.
Oh yeah. I know I’m knitpicking. I’ll 100% admit that I was really let down from what I expected. I will still stay the course and use it. Who knows, I may come to love it, I’ll also do an update video and correct anything that changes. Like I said in the video. I can’t believe they would change the design and make it worse. Time will tell. Thanks for commenting.
@@Shanecoffeyoutdoors I get it. I am the same way when something that I previously had changes I tend to have a hard time with it. I felt the same when GSI didn't push the stainless steel stuff as much as the aluminum stuff. I actually had a hard time finding the 1.1 liter stainless steel cooking pot that I use when I want more space. You want to talk about disappointed? Just put the stainless steel kettle and cook pot next to the aluminum counterparts and you'll see where GSI really skimped out on the products. Either way, keep the great content coming!
@@GSIOutdoorsLLC If I may suggest something that would be awesome for the camper who has a bigger cook kit that would make the kettle and the gsi outdoors steel 1.1 boiler fit perfectly together would be to make the kettles pot lid opening slightly larger so that the steel 1.1 boiler would fit in it and could be stacked. There are times when I have a few friends outdoors and have both pots with me but they are too cumbersome to carry together all the time because of it.
Shane, I thought about you the other day when I was selling my XRV 750 Honda Africa Twin. We had a mega powercut and I had to fish out a camp kettle to give the buyer a cup of tea. Got your supercub yet? F
Tippy lids on a kettle is a deal breaker for me. Although I’m sure the new one can be fixed with a pair of needle nose pliers. Also never cared for a piece of camp cookware that I can’t pitch in the fire without concern.
The new version looks and feels cheap. Just bought one cause I saw it in many videos. When i got it i was shocked. Those handle holders will poke the shit out of any backpack and overall it feels so terrible. I hate it and will send it back. If this is the alternative I will boil my stuff in a pot and done.
You can. You just can not buy the Ketalist kit with the older version. It’s almost like a marketing ploy. Buy our original stand alone kettle for more money. Lol 🤷♂️
Shane…nice videos. what’s your take on fire maple kettle 1liter / 1.5liter. Is that better than gsi stainless kettle . The mouth on the fire maple is a bit smaller than gsi. Firemaple is a cheaper alternative to the Norwegian eagle brand kettle.
I have the fireMaple and i love it. I just wish the lid was larger. Other than that, I use it quite a bit. I have the fireMaple kettle and the cook pot that it nests in. Such an awesome kit.
OK...I MISTAKENLY THOUGHT. you were gonna give a critique, you're worse than my little kids...thanks but no thanks.. BTW... Wheres my package..its still missing...UPS.. Go FedEx..or go home
