This dude can make a video about one of the most minor races 14 minutes long whilst other channels struggle to make a Guilleman video 14 minutes.

I think it's more likely the laer are mutated Sslyth. Sslyth have snake like heads, but mutations from the God Slannesh are more likely to cause mutation of humanlike faces that mimic the god's demons.

You've convinced me, Remleiz: the Sslyth are what's left of the Laer race. A four armed snake-man is one of those GW visual ideas they seem to really love, like humanoid shapes with no neck but their head positioned somewhere on their chest. I'm reading Slaves to Darkness now and Fulgrim even has a stupid fat version of himself in his palace, so yet another four armed snake-man enters the fray...

As I recall, the Sslyth are, in lore, refugees after their planet fell to 'She who Thirsts', AKA, Slaanesh. The similarity in species and predisposition would probably mean that Laer are simply the fallen Sslyth.

Completely unrelated to this video, but here's something I've always wondered: Why doesn't/didn't the Emperor have his own fully-functioning STC? He's lived through pretty much all of written human history. Surely he would have collected things of great interest as the years went on, and surely someone who is so obsessed with science would have an interest in acquiring an STC upon their inception.

The Druhkari would never tolerate being in the presence of anything corrupted by Slaanesh. The Drukhari fear "She who thirsts" even more than the Aeldari. So if they are Laer, they are unfallen Laer

Imo, the Sslyth are a splinter group of the Laer who split when the race started worshipping Slaanesh.

I'm currently half-way through listening to Fulgrim and whenever they mention the Laer I pictured the Sslyth.

I'm guessing exact same species, with the Laer's differences being entirely due to the mentioned artificial changes (and/or due to daemonic mutation thanks to their Slaanesh worship). Even if they lack space travel of their own, the Sslyth might have been abducted or enslaved by other races in the past and brought to other systems.

i wonder maybe its slaanesh that favors the convergent evolution of the Sslyth and Laer serpentine form? and if so maybe he/she/it guided the evolutions subtle and elevated the two species to dominating species on their planets? others then Tzeentch can play long games too xD

Suggestions: Why didn’t the Emperor see the heresy coming? How did the Emperor know exactly where his sons where during the Great Crusade? If the Emperor gave part of his soul to the Primarchs was it purely sorcery, science or both?

would the dark eldar risk employing potential slaaneshi's so prevalently? seems like the sort of thing that would be one of their few limits. Of course descendants of the laer dont need to be slaaneshi's but as you and other lawmasters note chaos corruption can pass between generations.

I personally like the theory of convergent evolution as it seems more believable that in an entire galaxy, at least two races would turn out to be snakelike, but it's 40k, so probably not.

I always thought that after the Laer were beaten by Fulgrim and The Emperor's Children that the taint of Slaanesh Chaos left them after s/he found a better plaything. Now they want payback for all kind of crap.

I think that it's much more likely that the Laer are a lost colony of the Sslyth that fell to chaos... or "co-ass" as the kids say.

What if the Sslyth is the Laer pure form before the rest of the species fell to chaos, alternating there form ,chaotic mutations and genetic makeup to obtain perfection

Fulgrims daemon physiology is now that of a four armed serpentine creature as well. This would appear to be a result of the daemon blade of the Laer he recovered in the aftermath of the Xenocide. It would be interesting to see an interaction between a Drukhari raid with Sslyth attached run into Fulgrim and see how they react/don't react. Would they worship him, stop in momentary bewilderment, or simply do what their masters tell them?

So the Laer/Sslyth could have look difference befour been modified with tech (and maybe warp magic) to look more like their God/Goddess. Also I like the idea of the Sslyth being the "pure" Laer.

Snake Waifu material

It may seem like semantics, but I think the Laer to the Sslyth are the equivalent of cacophoni noise marines to freshly minted Astartes of the 3rd legion, or Haemonculus Ancients to normal Drukhari: a full Slanneshi cult of obsession within a larger group with already Slanneshi tendencies. In the novel, did they refer to themselves as "Laer", or was it a name granted by nearby humans? If not it could be a Mon-keigh / Human thing.

speaking of things that fall to slaanesh, i was looking at the eldar mythology can came across the hresh-selain, and the 'angel exterminatus'. the hresh were said to have been made for eldaneesh to kill and conquer by isha, and were said to come from the darkest regions of space, and wield numbers that outnumbered the stars. is it possible that Isha created the Tyranids?

The only flaw I see in your theory is that we have no idea what a baseline unaltered Laer looks like. It may look nothing like Sslyth.

It seems like a stretch. The Sslith reflect none of the cultural or technological markers in common. They may have morphological similarities, but their colors and other presentations are different. There is one more similarity however. The Dark Eldar have a similar number of predilections to the possible Sslith parent race. Both they and the Dark Eldar were marked by Slanesh. It is conceivable that the relationship is strongest because they know that the Dark Eldar will avoid any possible contact with the dark god.

I would think that the laer would be a offshoot of the sslyth As they they are quite similar etc etc but they worship slaneesh whereas the sslyth don't, if the sslyth were descended from the laer wouldn't they have kept up their slaneesh worshipping so wouldn't the sslyth in 40k therefore be corrupted by slaneesh too?

I would doubt all sslyth worship slanesh seing as many of them work as mercs yo drukari, if they were all slaneshis then drukari would stay away from them.

If this is true, then maybe their tendency to work with Eldar could be a remnant of the instinctive urge to hunt Eldar that is burned into the psyche of all Slaaneshi worshipers.
