Tbf in a union only the top people actually see any of the money. Most union workers just get fucked and it protects shitty workers. There are very few unions who are actually good for workers and everyone who is pro union seems to be not part of one lol. I have never been a part of a union when I wasn't taken advantage of.

I worked at the Bessemer Amazon plant during the 2 union votes. During the revote they held WEEKLY meetings where they would take a whole floor off the line and talk about how much unions suck. Mind you theyd never want to waste that much time off the line. Also after the warehouse voted no they fired people in droves.

@@jbillionI can’t tell if you’re asking this in good faith or not, but a living wage should (and before Reagan, did) cover food, gas, water, electricity, rent/shelter, healthcare costs, car insurance, education costs if you have kids, daycare if you don’t have a spouse, with a bit extra for long-term savings. A comfortable life without needing to take on another job just because yours doesn’t pay enough to live on. Other benefits would be paid maternity/paternity leave, and at least a few weeks of sick days annually. Live to work, don’t work to live.

Damn, this is actually disgusting. I've just checked, my country (as of 2018) has a 12.7 union participation percentage. I hope the younger generations worldwide realize that getting fucked by your employers is not an amazing past time and it will rise. The top countries (only ones supposedly above 50%) are Iceland and the nordic countries (+Cuba, but it says the data is from 2008, I kinda assume it's bullshit and can't be bothered to factcheck that) Countries that coincidentally rank pretty high on: happiness, work-life balance, and employee benefits. (I didn't take this data out of my ass, but I also can't guarantee it's all from amazing sources, also it's all correlation, not direct causation) I think there can't be enough marketing for unions.

Just as a counter to what a lot of people are saying, i was in a union for 15 years (actually still in the union) and i did not want to be in the union but you dont have a choice. Once the office is unionized you are required to pay initiation fees, they took the residuals from our films to provide "free healthcare" except they immediately changed the union rules to say we also have to pay for it. They provide a pension but constantly say its going to go away because they dont actually have enough money. And then the company itself gives far better benefits (such as paternity) which my union disallowed. Unfortunately when the union becomes entrenched with the company and skim money off the top and mismanage it and literally colude with the company they are unionizing against, it is worse than not having a union. I recently changed to a non union job while retaining my membership in my old union but i make way more money and get way more benefits. Unionizing is good, if done correctly, and bad if not.

If the company went bankrupt from talks about unions, there was no union activity itself that caused any fundamental issue to collapse it. @devin_leary

@@condimentking3395 The reason why it failed was everyone and I mean EVERYONE stopped doing shipments with them because if there WAS a union, no one would want to have their shipments from the person supposed to ship them. @devin_leary
@devin_leary 10 месяцев назад
@@momobobo5430 They fired everyone because the company went bankrupt BECAUSE of the talks of unions. NO ONE wants to send their shipments to a company possibly going on strike. @mesan4641
@mesan4641 10 месяцев назад
@@teddy90636 but value is relative and they’re not negotiating with society as a whole they’re negotiating with their own industry, to movie studios (and every other capitalist company) value is based on profit generated, so within that industry actors are some of the key players that generate value. So even if actors aren’t necessary to run society they’re still extremely valuable to movie studios so there is leverage for actors striking in relation to their industry.
