I watched Duncan play once for team USA at Madison Square garden. Seemed like he did nothing all game. Wasnt even sure if he scored. He ended up with 24 points and 22 rebounds. The quietest, most unassuming star ever
C'mon Pearl, Tim Duncan did more than "bank 12 footers". He was the modern day Bill Russell! He put his teammates and coaches first and cared so much about winning. If you think winning is "boring" and don't appreciate the fundamentals of the game, then something is seriously wrong with you.
He’s just saying Tim Duncan’s highlight reel was boring. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t like fundamentals, it’s just that he wasn’t as thrilling as other players.
2003 duncan's run was insane...to win the title to make sure the series did not go to a risky game 7, he had a quad double in the finals with 20+ points and rebs and 10 assists which was insane for a big at the time and blocks and to have 32 blocks in a 6 game series is nuts in the finals...if he lost that game hes tired for game 7 and the spurs lose 90% sure...he went for it in game 6..props...
In regards to never leading the league in scoring, rebounding, or blocks, Duncan's raw stats were never going to be as high as Shaq's or Garnett's because of the Spurs' style of play in his prime: minimizing the number of possessions each game by a. forcing difficult shots at the end of the shot clock on defense, and b. taking as much time off the clock to find a quality shot on offense. By the time the Spurs adapted to a quicker style of play, he was already in his late 30s, having his minutes limited even more than they were in his late 20s/early 30s tail end of his prime. Not saying that he would have ever led the league in any of the categories regardless of the Spurs style, but whenever a pundit or analyst points to raw numbers/league leaders as a way to knock or criticize players, it paints a very incomplete picture.
As an avid fan of Steve Nash era (both Dallas and Phoenix years), I would like to have a word with you... there was nothing as glorious as seeing Spurs get their ass handed to them 4-0 in that last year of Nash in Phx
@@TexHorn210 I live in Dallas lol its love disguised as hate. Lol and we all know that even if it was genuine it only applies to the basketball court and his prowess in the game. Everyone here loves Duncan for the person he is.
@@shorafarahani You're really saying that you dislike the the Spurs because we were such a great team, that stopped your good suns team back in the day from reaching glory. Despite this Tim Duncan is still loved by you and everyone else in the world just for being the person and man that he is.
@@mrbtbrown84 I actually don't like him.. all his shoulder throwing up, trying to say he's not guilty of anything etc.. that's the image of him I always remember. No denying he was a GREAT player and there's nothing that beats the fundamentals, but to a generation of fans, he's the definition of "ugly" basketball
Tim duncan is more valuable and more efficient than kobe, lebron and even the great magic Johnson... Yet everyone hypes kobe over him... Kobe and LeBron left their orgs in shambles after retirement and transfer..timmy did not.... Character and hard work beat talent any time as clearly mentioned by shaq
hey paulie pop was not head coach in 1995-1996 when the spurs were good...he took over after the start of 1996-1997 and robinson was hurt...and you said duncan hurt his back when you meant to say robinson..
My first reaction was definitely not top 5, but probably top 10 or 15. The more I thought about it though the more I could see moving him up. Larry Bird for example or even Magic Johnson, were much more spectacular in their play but I think Duncan is right there with them in effectiveness
Yeah he really is top 5 and lets say you could only use one player from every position. Pg’sg’sf’pf’c That makes it easier to put them in order granted Jordan will be number one or should be in everyone’s top. Then just compare them in order
Kobe, MJ, Bird, Magic, LeBron Wilt, Kareem, Russell, Shaq, Duncan Top 10 players of all time (in no order) You can’t compare big men to guards/forwards
The GOAT conversation is futile. It's all opinion. All of it. There is no such thing as the GOAT in the NBA. Too many complex factors to consider. Too many varying criteria. Timmy, from the very beginning, has been in the top few of his generation. I personally think he is greater than Kobe and Garnett. But there's not much room between them. Timmy may be the greatest power forward of all time. But many power forwards are right behind him. Timmy may be somewhere in the top five to seven centers of all time. Timmy didn't change the game, but he sure did make the game better. Much better. I could make a case for about 10 players that are possible GOATS, but each and every case has its weaknesses for THE GOAT. So I do not have a GOAT. But if I had to choose one player to start a franchise, well, it just might be Magic Johnson.
@@DecemberSkyfire Each ARGUMENT has its weaknesses. Duncan himself seemed to have few to no weaknesses as a player. Many players had few to no weaknesses in their games: Oscar, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Bill Russell, Magic, Bird, Jordan, Stockton. Other players, such as Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, Mailman were tremendously dominant but had at least one glaring weakness. Duncan was not the very best at any one skill, but he was very, very good at all skills for a long time. Hence, Shaq's nickname for him as "The Big Fundamental".
Duncan to me is at 5 my five would go like Jordan, Bron, Magic, Kareem, Duncan you can’t compare his accolades and stats with other top 10 players and tell me there are 5 or 6 guys better than him
Lmfao @ these fools even entertaining taking Kobe over Tim. And these idiots have jobs that pay them to do this. Unbelievable. A guy that coattailed to 3 of his rings and STILL didn't have more rings than Tim, who had the highest PER on every championship team he ever played on.
The greatest accomplishment and strongest argument for Duncan as GOAT is that his individual greatness made people believe a guy that went 17-47 and 2-22 before he arrived and missed the playoffs almost instantly after he left(after not missing them for 20 years) was quite possibly the GOAT head coach. Think about it, Phil Jackson did it in multiple places. Gregg Popovich has done absolutely NOTHING before or since Tim Duncan. Nothing but failures.
the 2017 spurs after duncan retired went to round 3 without kawhi or tony parker in games 5 or 6 vs the harden led rockets in round 2 a year before he won mvp and took the warriors 7 games which they would of won if cp3 didn't get hurt and the same year when he came in 2nd in mvp...the spurs without parker were up 22 in the 3rd vs the kd curry klay prime age led warriors ....he won with old manu leading the way....kawhi and parker were 2 of their 4 best players....and their best guy was kawhi...who got hurt in game 1...wtf?..in 1996 robinson hurt his back dummy...he was the 95 mvp and a beast back then...he has a case for top 14 all time....he was so effective on the court ala lebron compared to when he sat on the bench or was out...thats why the spurs pre duncan sucked and it was his first real coaching experience..give him a break..kawhi missed 2017-2018 and the spurs made the playoffs...dejounte murray tore his achillies in 2018-2019 spurs still made the playoffs...2021 was a rough year but they battled most of the year to make the playoffs...2019-2020 was rough after his wife died
