Cmon Tim Duncan is who you’re questioning? Duncan never missed the playoffs. Only season he didn’t win 50+ games was the lockout season in 1999 and won the championship. 2 blocks away from a quadruple double in a close out game in the Finals. Shaq should be in the top ten as well but not replacing Duncan.

I’m ok with Tim Duncan being underrated because he wasn’t flashy but he 100% should be in the top 10 all time with ease. Constant winning season every year, title contender, MVP’s, 5 rings, turned that small market franchise upside down into one of the greatest winning franchises, never switched teams, and not to mention was an elite defender and even a very formidable rim protector late in his career who could still put up points efficiently when given the attempts.

I'm old enough to remember back when Kobe was in his prime, everyone had him in the top 5 players of all time, many in the top 3. In fact, when Kobe had just made it to the Finals against the Celtics for the first time, the media was asking if he wins 4, would he be #1 or #2 against Jordan. Unfortunately for him, they lost to the Celtics, and the media kind of chilled out. Even though he went on to win 2 more rings, people mostly kept him top 3 or top 5. But Lebron started taking over, we never got the Kobe vs Lebron finals we wanted, and over time he dropped further down the list. It's just crazy to me that NOW the same media acts like they weren't drooling all over him that whole time. Even when Lebron was in the NBA taking his team to the Finals, Kobe was being called the best in the league. But after getting swept by the Mavs in the playoffs while being defending champs, that narrative disappeared & the media decided to just move on.
@str8duval
@str8duval 2 года назад
Actually that's not true. ESPN and particularly has never had Kobe rated even in the top 5. You might have an individual guy like Mark Jackson who would question if he was good at Jordan but he was never anywhere near rated top three or even top 5. I can literally show you list from multiple Outlets and some of them didn't even have Kobe in the top 10. And this was like 10 or 12 years ago

@@str8duval Incorrect. I don't care what ESPN's "lists" said, I'm talking about what they were saying on all the talk shows & the pre-Finals breakdowns & all over the sports world. Individual analysts CONSISTENTLY would debate him vs Jordan, and many would even throw out things like "he's the better offensive player" quite often. You can find clips of these debates all over the place. When Phil & Shaq left, Kobe dragged the Lakers with Smush Parker, Luke Walton, Kwame Brown, etc. to the playoffs & nearly beat the Suns on his own. People used to downplay that, but then over time you saw that narrative change too. Even without other stars, you need strong role players. People saw how stacked the West was, & Kobe stayed put anyway. Without any other star or capable role player, Lebron struggled even worse in the West. When AD & the squad was healthy, the won another title. I clearly remember these discussions, because at the time I *HATED* the guy. I'll be the first to admit being one of those guys who hated the top player for always keeping my favorites down. As a 6-13 year old, hated Jordan. As a 13-25 year old, hated Kobe. Since the minute he was playing, hated Brady. But I can at least respect them & give them their praise. They earned it.

Kobe is the best Laker of all time...literally the best player of the most storied franchise in the league (with Celts)....and that was stated on more than one occasion by the perennial favorite Magic Johnson before Kobe passed. Listen, yes he should be higher than 10 based on that alone. While I’m not “mad” at the list; Kobe is in my top 5 and has been since 2008-2010...that window was crazy. Not to mention people act like Kobe was “carried” by the Shaq...man listen he averaged 22, 25, then 28 PPG in them 3 Finals and solid rebounds/assists considering his usage as the only dominant wing player they had at ages 20, 21, and 22. I was 6 when MJ started his run and in 7th grade when he beat the Jazz so for me that is not “my” era technically...I was a kid. Kobe is my generations’ GOAT. Him and Jeter are one in the same for me. Like people argue Jeter’s legacy all time...listen he is THE best Yankee ever (yes Babe was a legend but his whole run wasn’t as a Yank)....he is the best player of the most storied team in all of sports....20 years. THE Captain. that alone makes him Top 7 all time in my book but surely not lower than 10th.

As far as EYE TEST, Kobe was the best offensive player and one of the better defenders in the NBA at times during his career. Kobe was getting 1st team defense while also being a league leader in scoring. Duncan can’t say that. The gap that exists between Duncan’s offense and Kobe’s offense is bigger than the gap that exist between Duncan’s defense and Kobe’s defense.

Larry controlled the game the way magic did ..they game flowed through each player...they brought the NBA from the dark ages to the modern era ..if magic is there , bird has to be...they were both just about equal...so if bird is off...magic is off...I even agree with placing magic higher than bird because of his size at point guard...but both are top 10...leadership is a possible knock I've heard on KD...that is important in rating a top 10

People usually say that Kobe has only 1 MVP, but we know he could have had 2 or 3 more but MVP aside, what do you think when they say the name Kobe? He is one of the deadiest and most skilled player in NBA history. Listen he did not have MJ vertical leap or giant frame, bron durability, shaq frame or kareem height. He had none of that, where players were given the ticket to NBA superstardom (Not saying they don't work hard but Kobe is one or the hardest working player in NBA history) Kobe had to painstakingly built his path up piece by piece. Don't get me wrong Kobe got the bag but his bag is made out of practice and practices some more, polished to perfect the next time you see him on the court. He might have won 3 ring with Shaq but Shaq also won those 3 rings with him. Shaq came to LA in 1996 and only won his first ring in 2000. so think about it Shaq needed Kobe as much as kobe needed him. The disrespect you guys have on Kobe is unbelievable. My list would go MJ Bron Kareem Magic Kobe Bill Wilt Tim Larry Shaq

A fairly old Kobe averaging 29 which was 10 more then any other player in the finals and beating a stacked Celtics team in 2010 was very impressive. His defense and offense. I would say that 2010 championship is one of the most impressive. Bill russels in 1969, dirks in 2011, lebrons in 2016, along with kobe's in 2010, are the most impressive.

100% Tim Duncan so underrated. Man NEVER MISSED THE PLAYOFFS!!! On top of that, the distance between him and the next Power Forward of all time is so much greater than any other position. With literally every other position, you can have legitimate debates as to who is the greatest. Everybody knows that Tim Duncan is the greatest PF of all time there is no debate there. Kobe is amazing, but the consistency Tim Duncan had and his ability to do just about everything whether that be shoot, assist, dribble, rebound, block, steal, etc.
@askask2721
@askask2721 2 года назад
Just because he isn't always in the media doesn't mean he should be underrated or forgot about. It's the same thing that we have discussions about when you try to erase parts of a country's history by not talking about it or pulling down statues. Just because those public monuments are no longer there doesn't mean that the people who they represented didn't exist and the history didn't happen and both the good and bad don't deserve to be talked about and all of a sudden they no longer deserve their monuments for the good they did in history just because there were certain bad things about them, like slaveholding presidents or Sir John A. Macdonald and residential schools who still did a lot of good for their respective countries and deserve public monuments. We should continue discussions about these topics while also mentioning their flaws, and the same thing applies here. Larry Bird chose to keep quiet after retirement and that doesn't mean that we should forget about him or disrespect him. Just because Larry has been fairly quiet and not going after big business ventures in retirement like Magic has, doesn't mean that he should stopped being talked about and be underrated. You don't need to be a showman to be a good NBA athlete. Magic is amazing, but Bird is either slightly better, just as good, or slightly below him. They're 1a and 1b. There's ALOT of recency bias in this list.
