Have an existing ceramic coating on your vehicle? Don't know if it's still good or not?? We take a closer look into some main factors to be aware of to be able to tell if your ceramic coating is alive and well, dead as a door nail, or somewhere in between.
In this example, we take a look at a 5 year old Ceramic Pro 9H coating to see how it performs, and test to see if there's anything left after 5 years of real-world exposure.
We also look at my own ceramic coating, Carpro CQuartz UK 3.0, to see how a fresh ceramic coating should perform.

Awesome Vid. I now own a 2022 TRD OffRoad Toy. Taco. I have a ceramic pro gold package with lifetime guarantee "IF" I take my vehicle for its yearly inspection to a Ceramic Pro shop. However, the lifetime guarantees only works if you make the yearly visits to the Cermaic Pro shop for its yearly inspection. The yearly inspection includes the inspection of the ceramic coat and if the coat is not up to standard the shop will re-apply the coat. Shortly after the shop will add the ceramic coat maintenance compounds to rejuvenate the product until the next year. The price of the yearly inspection is anywhere from $500.00 to $600.00 depending on the size of the vehicle. I have been a long-time fanatic of Cermaic Pro because hands down it's the best in the industry this of course is my own bias opinion. I am a JDM enthusiast, and I used to own a 2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo with modification. I loved my car and the work I had done on the car. Unfortunately, in 2021 my vehicle took a bad spill during a bad rainy night in the California mountains, and I could not salvage my vehicle. Unfortunately, due to the airbags deploying after my vehicle kissing the rails the insurance deemed it a totaled loss. I tried to have them inspect the vehicle a 2nd and 3rd time but unfortunately the final word was a complete loss. I had no choice but to sign the pink slip off to my insurance company. However due to the Ceramic Pro and Ceramic Pro PPF with Cermaic Pro documentation the insurance company considered my car to be in pristine condition and valued my loss at a higher price. I took the extra funds and dumped it in a savings account and plan to use the return it to buy a new Nissan Z NISMO. I work 6 days a week and been doing so for the past 20 years. I don't wash my cars often because I work 10 to 12 hours days. Currently my truck has not been washed for over 6 months. I have washed my truck 6 months after I purchased it. Total washes on my truck are x1 since 2022. The abuse my truck takes is hard given that California is hell on cars and paint jobs. I have x2 employers. One employer is in LA county in the SFV, and my second employer is in California City. My truck well it's a truck lol no fun their other than well it's a truck lol. Life in Cali is very expensive and having a Ceramic system on a car becomes more of an investment than a luxury at least in my opinion. I abuse my truck like I did my Nismo but at the end I got almost half of the value of my car back plus I didn't have to worry about washing my car or worry where I park. In LA county SFV you deal with morning dew, light summer June glooms and tree sap everywhere parking is available. California City is all desert I park outside a plane hangar no shade just 100-to-118-degree heat for 8 to 10 hours every Saturday. And driving through the desert well let's just say when you arrive to work your car hood, windshield and bumpers are covered with every single insect known on earth it's a disgusting site to see. I will be washing my truck in October of 2023. I believe that my ceramic system works for me. Pro Ceramic coating is defiantly not cheap, and I will always share this with collogues. It really depends on the individual's lifestyle and if they are car enthusiast and want to save money on a car investment. At the end it's all about enjoying the car that you love driving 7 days a week while knowing that your paint value is protected no matter the harshest weather conditions while saving money and feeling assured that the insurance company will return at least 50% more value if the unfortunate occurs.

Thank you! Your experience with ceramic pro sounds a lot like most other pro level ceramic coatings. System X also requires an annual inspection detail to keep the warranty in force, however I charge much less because I feel it’s not right to charge more than what’s fair on a mandatory service (if they want to keep their warranty). Also any ceramic coating will only perform and last as well as it’s taken care of. Sadly many people don’t take care of their coatings and then say they’re junk, making it harder for us to do business. But it sounds like you understand that, and yes it’s an investment as well as a luxury.

Included in the wash (with Carpro Lift) was a light claying of the paint to see if I could revive whatever was left, if anything, of the coating. Unfortunately, I saw little to no improvement.

When a client brings a pre-coated car to you that needs to be revived, even if completely gone, is another polish required or can we just stack another coating on top?
@TurnerMobileDetailing
@TurnerMobileDetailing Год назад
@@gnawty4662 if the old coating is determined to be at the end of its life, even if you feel it’s totally gone, you want to make sure it’s totally gone by polishing the paint. This way you make sure the new coating can bond properly and directly to the paint.

Thanks for the video. I've seen instances where a iron decon and light clay can "unclog" the surface from contamination which is prohibiting the beading water behavior. Any reason why you didn't try that considering the Tesla paint was neglected? I know the coating was well into the end of its designed life but perhaps a little revival could have offered the customer a little more time before needing a new full blown coating.

I hear you and I agree, sorry I didn’t mention it in the video, but when I mentioned that I washed the vehicle, that always includes a fine grade clay also, sorry I didn’t clarify that more. I did not use an iron remover however since it wasn’t included in the package my customer purchased. I did feel the paint after the wash and before the clay though and it felt pretty good, this car doesn’t see a lot of road time because my client works from home so iron deposits are kept to a minimum. Given the fact that ceramic pro 9h has about a 5 year life span I came to the conclusion it was pretty much gone if not totally gone. However, I did not try and sell my client on a new coating, or even a topper coating because he is trading the car in in a few months and I told him his money would be better spent on coating his new car instead of this one. So I just applied a ceramic sealant instead.

That coating is not dead. You can see it on the front fender. Give the vehicle a thorough wash with a sour shampoo. If necessary apply waterspot remover and wash it again with a microfiber washmit. The pores of the coating need to be unclogged. That’s all. Ceramic Pro 9H belongs to the most durable coatings on the market.

I somewhat agree. I made the best estimation I could at the time. My client didn’t want to put a lot of time and money into trying to reviving an old coating when he was just trading the car in in a couple months anyway. I washed the car with carpro lift and did a fine grade clay treatment, in my opinion, that was enough to tell the condition of the coating. Again, I knew almost nothing outside the coating that was used, and it’s age. In my experience, CP 9h is usually applied with 1 or 2 layers, and a layer of CP Light on top, which usually only lasts 2-3 years anyway. That just leaves the 9h base coats. While CP is very durable, this car lives outside, and was never maintained. Also, I’ve detailed many many cars that I know have no protection, not even a wax, and I saw very similar water behavior on this Tesla, that I have seen may times on bare paint. I agree the coating may not be 100% gone as if it was never there, but it was dead to the point where it needed a good amount of work either to revive the little bit that was left, top it for another year or two, or replace it all together. In the end, it’s all moot anyway because we decided to just use a sealant, and not waist time and money on all that because the car was traded in shortly after I detailed the car.
