It's hunger which risks killing most Palestinians, not bombs and bullets. Israel is using hunger as a weapon of war - and Israeli claims there are no food crisis in Gaza is a grotesque lie. A terrible famine may beckon - and even in the violence stopped now, immediately, many would still die.
I'm joined by Alex de Waal, Executive Director of the World Peace Foundation, who has been writing about famine since the 1980s.

also in South Africa: the Afrikaner history will show severe hardship under British rule, which resulted in the uprise that lead to the Anglo-Boer War (1899 - 1902), during which 1000's of women and children died from starvation and disease in British concentration camps all over South Africa. Farms and livestock were burned to the ground.

I think if we're going to continue to put the worst labels on Hamas, then really, shouldn't those labels be applied equally to the brutal regimes that have caused (by far) the most death, suffering, destruction and destabilization in the region and beyond? I think if you ask a regular person in Yemen, Iraq, Syria or Gaza who they're most afraid of, they won't say Hamas. It may be time for a reeducation and a hard look at our own governments and what horrors they have wrought upon the world, and more importantly, how we can do better.

It may not matter whether they 'see' what is happening or not, it is the question as to how the 'violaters' are to be reprimanded while the crisis is unfolding. The only way to FORCE Israel to stop thr atrocities is to do exactly what the Houthe forces are trying to do; block all trade routes to and from Israel, (An action that is presently being condemned as a terrorist act) and stop all funding and military support from the West.(which of course implicates the U.S) So it is the political sensitivity of any punitive action that would keep tbe ICJ from judging accordingly, the potential 'fall-out" would mean unravelling a cabal of foreign policy abuses carried out by the U,K, the U,S and many other nations who have been co-conspirators within the EU, as well as tbe United Arab Emirates and their activity within Yemen and Syria. The ICJ might just prefer to turn a blind eye rather than pull back tbe curtain that would expose decades and decades of human rights abuses carried out by so -called "developed, democratic' nations wbo should be representing peace, equity and freedom..

The oppressed has every right to resistance against an oppressor. The fullscale genocide that followed after: destruction, killing of civilians and now starvation, is intentional and criminal. They used this method in Iraq when they imposed an economic embargo on Iraq post the first gulf war of 1991. I was there and witnessed it myself, it was the worst thing ever to happen to the population of Iraq. When the 2003 American led invasion took place the Iraqis were already weak and starving. The Iraqis were a middle class society who lived a very comfortable lives, suddenly they were selling everything they owned to feed their children, and nothing was allowed to enter the country from abroad including essential medications that people with cancers were dying so fast-it was awful

Once again Owen brilliant guest on explaining the concept of starvation during war crimes. There are so many horrific ways they are being dehumanized. Women currently do not even have sanitary towels to use, they are forced to use and cut bits of cloth from tents. Sorry for this horrific picture I am painting but we could go on and on........

Famine is the most cruel weapon of extermination during war - the thought of it is heartbreaking. I am reminded of the past history in South Africa when the white Afrikaner community suffered severe hardship under British rule, which resulted in the uprise that lead to the Anglo-Boer War (1899 - 1902), during which 1000's of women and children died from starvation and disease in British concentration camps all over South Africa. Farms and livestock were burned to the ground.
