The scariest scene of this movie for me is when the old lady is just staring at the kid in the library and the movie doesn't focus on it.

Interesting that they highlight that it takes place every 27 years. The previous IT came out in 1990, and this came out in 2017.

Pennywise feeds on the kids. The fear 'seasons' the meat. And part of Pennywise's influence is what causes the adults to not notice the patterns of what happens in the town and makes them begin to easily forget the traumas that happen during each feeding cycle. It is also what makes the adults seem more abusive and uncaring. Hoping you react to Chapter II very soon and don't wait until next year!

Damn talk about a blind reaction. They didn't know pennywise was supernatural, that he shows you your fears, which kids will definitely survive (the losers club), this is awesome

All the supernatural beings you're seeing are pennywise. Pennywise isnt a clown he's a orange/yellow beam/sphere of light from another dimension that feeds on fear. He takes the shape of whatever you're afraid of. The adults in Derry are all basically under a "spell" that keeps them "oblivious" and "docile". So Pennywise can hunt freely.

The first IT film was made for tv. So this was the first adaptation that could do the gore any level of justice. The book is a hard R.

It is a shape-shifting creature known as a Glamour who is billions of years old. Although It lived on planet Earth for many years, It originated in a void/dimension outside the regions of space known as the Macroverse. Since Its true identity is unclear, due to its shape-shifting abilities and being from another universe, Its real name and species are called Deadlights, but few know this, which is why it is referred to as IT.

Something I absolutely love about this adaptation in particular is the strong conveyance of how Pennywise isn't human. From that opening scene there's always something off about him. He genuinely feels like a demonic predator in a disguise that isn't quite fitting right and just wants to come out. It also helps that the actor, Bill Skarsgard can actually make his one eye look in a different direction and when he he was in the fridge and started to come out he was actually contouring his body but it was enhanced by cgi

36:16 I almost pissed my pants when I saw this in the theater. It's the only real jumpscare in the movie and because of that I was completely caught off guard.

The book is much much more terrifying. There's no way for it to compare or be able to do what King did in writing.

The ending of the part of the book he's talking about is a giant orgy with all of them and the one girl (yes at the same age) ... It's supposed to symbolize their loss of innocence or something. lol

The ending of the book is definitely a yikes. King has a lot of great content, but there's definitely a questionable aspect to a lot of it

I'm sure it's been said but IT is an interdimensional being that sustains itself on fear. Children have the most potent unspoiled fear. It's also capable of controlling the time space location for which it preys so it can control memory and cognition if anyone leaves the town. it's an amazing concept.

The perfect scene is around @32:40 when Pennywise feels fear. When the kids stand up to him and say, "It's not real." I love that part. The music, the look on Pennywise's face. Absolutely beautiful.

Rana seriously had a genuine look of terror and stress creases on her face no later than 30 minutes into this. Outstanding group reaction overall, as well (as always)!

Pennywise also has a negative effect on the town. They hint at it but he basically manipulates people in Derry to do evil, ignore certain situations and just generally be bad people. It’s why the lady didn’t help Georgie, the people in the car didn’t help Ben, Henry gets basically possessed, all the parent are horrible. Pennywise creates a vibe.

In the Book, Pennywise appears to each kid as what they are most afraid of. The red baloons are a prelude to Pennywise appearing. IT is actually an extra terrestrial being that sleeps for 27 years, then wakes up to feed for 27 years. It lives in the sewers below Derry.

I feel like The Conjuring and Insidious are the films Rana & Pat need to watch.

God I remember watching this when it came out and honestly it was my favorite “Horror” film that came out. I don’t consider this a horror because it wasn’t scary. It was more mentally disturbing and I love that. I watched 4 times in the move theater and each time I watched it I saw something new every time and that right there itself is just amazing. Just all of the Easter eggs that they put into it.

I love seeing people react to films authentically, but also in the way it’s intended - fear, emotional, laughing, etc. Not everyone reacts to the same things, which is totally okay, but can make reactions a bit boring if they don’t really react much. This was hilarious! Micky’s toned down reactions were balanced and complemented by Rana and Pat’s full-blown reactions :P

There’s a door going down from inside the house, but also a door down there that leads straight up to outside. It’s home to many creatures, including spiders and occasionally snakes…. Our washer and dryer are down there. WHO DOES THAT!??? A finished basement? Sure. Unfinished? NO.

"Why to make a remake, if there was already a classic IT?" For a couple of reasons, besides profit. First, the Tim Curry film was a TV movie/miniseries. And IT is a huge book (not considering if you think it's good or not, it's more than 500 pages long) with lots of scenes and themes that couldn't be adapted with the resources of 1990 (and some other scenes that will never be adapted for any audience XD). "Why is all happening and nobody notices?" It's been already commented several times that IT has total control over the town. What should be kept in mind is that Derry is not only influenced by IT, it's its hunting ground. Derry exists because IT has influenced the town to exist, so its essence is in every corner, in every drain, in every house and in every person proud to live there. You can't trust anything in Derry, because Derry and IT can be considered one and the same. And that's just great, from a storytelling perspective :P. "The kiss worked!/Love is the answer" Indeed, and that's one bit that most people don't know of the novel: it's a long love letter to old ties, loved ones (present and gone) and friendship. For the book, the links that connect us to our most dear ones are the ties that make all sorts of magic work. In the case of The Loser's Club, their collection of shitty families or failed social interactions make their bond as a group one of the most powerful opposing forces to IT in Derry; that's the reason why the kiss partially works. Now, trust me: be glad it was a kissing scene; the novel originally cements their bond in a more weird way (one of the scenes that may never be adapted ever to any medium XD). "If your are not afraid of IT, he can't fuck with you..." Nice assumption... but it's wrong XD. You see: fear is what makes flesh more tasty (in IT's cuisine book), but don't be mistaken: he can feast on your raw flesh anytime he wants. Not fearing him doesn't make you immune, most of the times only makes you a walking corpse braver than most. "Is this a worthy remake?" Kind of; it gets some of the basics right. But, to be honest, in general IT is an epic tale that just has so much lore in it, it's very difficult that one film adaptation covers it all. The book even has a slower pacing (that's why there are two chapters: past and present, and we jump from timeline to timeline in each chapter, so you don't get the full picture until you finish almost the whole book). You also get more of the story of the kids, the story of Derry, more context about who Pennywise is and where IT comes from... it's just so much, you would need more time to make a one to one adaptation. And true: IT partially translates as jumpscares, mostly, because the tension resides in that slow burn, from incident to incident in that seemingly uneventful town (between the supernatural monster and the human monsters) and all that has to be condensed for general audiences (who go to see the film, in order not to read +500 pages). And that would be it, nice reaction and see you in the next one.

It's Pat mistaking Pennywise for a sewer cat in the beginning of viewing for me. I loooooved this reaction. Hope you do Cabin in the Woods! Btw, Pennywise was manipulating Bowers into becoming a murderous psychopath. Ben survived so many stomach slashes because 80s kids are built differently. In the book, they all have sex with Beverly as a group (smdh). Also in the book, the kids are able to defeat Pennywise by visiting a native american tribe and getting high and communicating with a cosmic space turtle who is Pennywise's true nemesis. Also Pennywise is cosmic space demon that particularly enjoys feeding on scared children. Love Pat's insight into the human monsters this story also portrays. Also, Billy felt extra guilty because in the book he was being a asshole to Georgy that day.

One of my all-favorite books. I remember when the miniseries came out on ABC. The book is super-packed with lore that the movie and the miniseries completel ignore. It is wild! And if y'all thought the movie was creepy and unnerving...

What made It scary was the fact that it's kids that Pennywise is after. Seeing that as a kid was terrifying. I'm not sure that adults thought it was that scary, it's just the people who saw it when they were young. It's more of a kid adventure movie watching it as an adult.
