I see! That tends to happen with poetry. There are so many different ways to see the same poem.

Hello sir, do you think contrast is a main device in this? If so, how would you explain it?
@AdamWebbCSEC
@AdamWebbCSEC 2 года назад
@@khamalamars447 Hi Khamala. While you might find some instances of contrast throughout the poem, I can't say it is a MAIN device. The main devices here are personification and metaphor. These devices are used to explore how the speaker feels toward both countries. Where do you think there is some contrast in the poem? By the way, I will soon upload a video that discusses all the major themes in all 20 poems.

hey sir, remember how misstress could also mean a woman in a sexual relationship with a man whom was married? just thought that'd be another way to view the last line, though I'm not sure how valid helpful analysis as usual sir, thank you :D

I'm hearing a whole lot of explanation for this poem please to clarify what it is about I am very much confused. Please is it about a woman and a country or two countries
@AdamWebbCSEC
@AdamWebbCSEC 2 года назад
It can be about either. It just depends on how you interpret it.

Same. I'm finding it hard to digest. Don't get me wrong though, I think this interpretation is really good, it just feels overwhelming.

Hello sir is there anyway I could get to you privately I would like to ask you about test match Sabina park and West Indies USA how is discrimination a theme in both poems I would like to link them together in an essay
@AdamWebbCSEC
@AdamWebbCSEC 2 года назад
Hi Dajii. It's always good to see students taking their work seriously. I'll give you a brief and general answer here, and then if you still need more help with structuring your essay, just shoot me an email (my address is on my channel page). Test Match Sabina Park and West Indies, USA approach discrimination from different angles. In West Indies, USA, we can see how black people are treated, and how black people from the Caribbean see Puerto Rico (and by extension the US) as being a more prosperous place. So not only do black people face discrimination from other races, but we sometimes look down on ourselves and where we are from. We see that the black people on the plane are not treated well. They are not trusted even to get off the plane for a moment when the plane lands at San Juan. It is as the black people are criminals. In this poem, the discrimination is pointed not just at black people but at West Indian people. In Test Match, we see at the beginning of the poem that the speaker thought that he (a white man) was superior to the West Indians (black people). However, this is not just a race thing, but a region/country thing. The speaker might think that England is superior to the Caribbean (perhaps based on what happened with British colonization, or based on the fact that Englishmen invented cricket). However, the twist is that the white man ends up being ashamed to be white, or ashamed to be English, due to how poorly the English team performed. We see what some people might call "reverse-racism", where the black people end up jeering and thrashing the white man. However, I don't think that this is really based on race. Instead, it might just be about which country/region has the better cricket team. There are many ways in which you could look at discrimination in these two poems. However, I think a better pair of poems would be West Indies, USA and South. These two are more closely connected where discrimination is concerned. Hope this helps. If you want more help, send me an email.
