It's Time To Build Another Hamster Cage [1310 in²] • The Big Cage Project Ep.1

I'm trying to repurpose a MASSIVE rabbit hutch into a hamster cage. The ledges that supported the barred top are prefect for putting acrylic sheets into. I won't be going with glass, as glass can break, not because of the hamster of course, but because of other things, like accidentally hitting it with something...lol. Like how I accidentally busted a fish tank with a very heavy bronze floor candle holder...lol. The tank was empty, don't worry! :) I wish IKEA wasn't so dastardly with their shipping costs, because that's what stopped me going this route.. No way am I paying nearly 300USD in shipping when IKEA is only 58 miles from my home. But, I guess I was going bigger when thinking of using the same table tops, as they have two sizes, so I was going to get two of the larger for the bottom and the back, and two of the smaller for the sides and do the front in acrylic.

It looks so good! I just finished building mine, and I'm super proud of how I did the lid, wish I could show it to you, but basically it folds into itself because I'm short and I don't want to be jumping up to reach it if it's open

This enclosure is amazing! You honestly bewilder me everytime you make anything - even the funny hamster toy challenges! Maybe it's because I can't understand DIY at all, but I find you so fascinating to watch. I literally love every video you put out and I'm so looking forward to the next one. In the U.K. I think the guide is min 1000cm2 for Syrian and 800cm2 for a dwarf, I’m really struggling to find a cage this size that’s deep enough too, crazy how inappropriate nose of the cages are! Thank you for your videos of builds I’m going to have a go at making my own with my nephews they really love making things think it will be a fun protect for us. Your videos make me feel like it can do it haha

Nice and good to know you are having a new hammy... let me guess syrian with long hair. My hamster is very old now 2y 8 months, but he has lived a good life. I've learned so much from you (and Victoria R) He is a russian, Hannibal and his enclosure is 155x 50 cms x 50cms (thats like 62 x 20 inches) I only wish for him to be happy and to have peacefull days

Erin One of the hamster cage makers has literally copied ur cage and selling it online. I don’t remember if it’s NiteAngel or Ecotrician or a Amazon store.. but I randomly saw it and it literally looks like ur cage in every single way. Including the rounded top lid. If I were u I would patent ur cages so that u can get paid for ur creative projects
