This is the comment that speaks truth everyone knew this guy was Obito but when he said he was Madara you were wondering and were like maybe good chance
There is a certain trope about idiot characters in anime. If it's a main character you follow, they are allowed to be goofballs with no ulterior motives. If it's a side character outshined by much cooler badass characters, expect them to be the final boss or close to it.
Honestly I knew he was going to be really important the moment I saw him, like how can you not design such a non serious character be so powerful either he would get serious or he was hiding under a voice
There's a trope in the east about goofball characters at first. They are introduced as idiots or comic relief, but are usually later revealed as wise sages. Think of Yoda in Star Wars for example. Tricked Luke into thinking he was a swamp creature and frustrated him. Only to reveal he was the grandest of all the Jedi in recent memory, the master of his own master. It's meant to reinforce the lesson of "Do not judge by first impressions."
True, even if I were an idiot and didn't know, it was exposed who Tobi was even before unmasking (Kakashi literally said that their visuals are connected
@@Sinofaries that’s because he was crush under a bunch of rocks lol. I guess Jiraiya’s still alive. Actually, I haven’t watched Boruto yet. Don’t respond to that Jiraiya bit. Hopefully, I can get to it soon.
Did anyone wonder why the other Uchiha weren't reanimated during the 4th Great Ninja War? Like I was waiting to see a revived Shisui (presumably with his eyes intact) and the rest of the Uchiha clan.
@@rondoe7585 for Shisui it's because there was no DNA left. His body was destroyed in the Waterfall, his eye in Danzo's possession was destroyed with Danzo's Death, and the one given to Itachi was destroyed by Itachi after Kotoamatsukami was used on him. As for the rest of the Uchiha, I can think of a few reasons: 1) like Itachi there's a fear of that many Sharingans one of them breaking free and freeing the others; 2) Itachi & Tobi managed to kill all of them by themselves, what real use could they be outside of Slightly stronger fodder; 3) it's quite possible that Kabuto just didn't have access to DNA from those killed in the Massacre and Obito kept his Sharingan storehouse a secret from Kabuto because he truly did not trust him.
@@diamonshade7484 how did he have two eyes? I thought that was mandara who attacked the leaf cause your right, now that it’s over, we know!! it was him but his sharingan is on the whole wrong side. I always thought that konoha attack was mandara and then tobi took the new mask on his apropriate eyes?
The fool persona he used was zetzu, it was obitos body and abilities, it was the same zetzu that asked obito when he was a kid what does doing poos feel like, that same zetzu came off obito and took over Yamato ,
Definitely think it depends on if you were a manga reader or just anime. Anime gave Kakashi /Obito backstory right before Obito became a major character. Manga, we got that story during the timeskip, so it was years before we even cared who Obito was.
For me it was obvious as a manga reader. BUT i was a decently well read 20 something. My teenage brother had no clue. I explained the writing convention of there being no point to showing obito if he wasnt going to be a character later. As Kakashi was just as interesting without tbe background fully explained. Then he started claiming it was Madara using obito other eye. Then he felt really justified when tobi claimed to be Madara. I have sense NEVER let go how i was right and he was wrong😂
I used to think he was just random fodder. Until he survived Sasuke's attack then the whole "Kidding, it's just as I expected" then for the voice alone, he became my favorite character.
Yea, thats when i realized tobi was possibly not just a gag character. When sasuke sliced tobi and it went str8 through him, sasuke looked concerned, dumbfounded. If sasuke was surprised then something had to be up.
Bro I knew that shit circa 2010 dude. It honestly was the worst kept secret in all of anime. I took it all as "him not being the real Madara" was the actual twist. It didn't even occur to me that people were fooled by the Obito-Tobi shit. Bro didn't even go for Toby with Y 💀 dude was begging people to put that together. Don't act like it was some grand mystery. If it fooled you cool, but a lot of us knew that shit immediately. I had a friend that said Obito on accident when talking about Tobi and that alone made him figure it out.
Obito was the only one I ever thought it was. His hairstyle was literally exactly the same and he was the only one saying he and uchiha but only has one sharingan. Like who else could it have been when kishi did nothing to make us think it was someone else
When asked he literally said it wasn't Obito. It's why a lot of people who knew it was Obito retreated like they were dumb early on. Especially once he said he was Madara. People trusted the writer to not lie to them when they got something right just so he could go 'I got you' later. And then he did that exact thing.
@@calebkopp7636 see but kishi would do a flashback right before revealing the character as an adult so I'm just like nah its obito and I ain't know how yahiko had rinnegan but I never doubted that it was nagato. Kishimoto almost did play me with nagato though because unlike obito he wasnt wearing a mask. Using yahiko as his main body threw me for a loop
@@cmanrocket6 oh yeah, agreed it was very obvious it was obito. But for some reason a lot of modern writers are taught that if people are able to predict what you are going to do, AKA having good foreshadowing character design and directing, then you are predictable and ergo bad. So a lot of them feel the need to cover for their plot twist by either not foreshadowing at all and making it so it's just a Twist and nothing else, or they have to not address it when people get it right. But unfortunately not addressing certain theories makes it kind of obvious which one is true. So I honestly believe he panicked and said no even though he knew it was true because for some reason people believe good foreshadowing is bad. And because he had done good twists in the past, most people believed him on this which created this illusion that there was a bigger plot going on than the one that was being foreshadowed. I honestly kind of feel bad for the guy, but I also remember a lot of people just calling me an idiot for thinking it was Obito after Kishimoto said it wasn't.. so the eventual feel was kind of cathartic even if it did hurt the audience's Trust In what he was writing for a bit. For the record none of this is an insult to the writer or people's ability to figure out the puzzle, it just seems to be a byproduct of the current phase entertainment media is currently in.
@@shaanajaz8541 For you. Everybody knows Madara from his long hair. Obito's haircut was exactly the same as Tobi's. The death of Obito only confirmed our suspicion because of the side of his eye where his Sharingan appeared. But I'm speaking for those who figured it out before the reveal.
But how could you know it was Obito before Obito was ever mentioned? Or did I miss something? Because I thought Kakashis past (including Obito) was revealed way later
@@tegathemenace😂😂😂 all over a misunderstanding too, kakashi was ready to go out like a G for Rin and she jumped in front of that shit 💀 my nigga its not his fault yo girl got took and made a bomb 😂
Not gonna lie but I lowkey thought it was madara under tobis mask or some crazy new Uchiha , but I did think it was weird how there was a child in kakashis old Team called óbito . I guess wondering his identity was fun for me when I didn’t know
Young me and new anime watcher struggled to comprehend how someone could realistically survive that boulder and ruled him out with no one else as an obvious possibility but a new character introduction. Now I have learned in Shonen that some people can survive death with plot armour
Actually Shisui could become a very cool villian and this was a very cool theory But they main problem of it is that then why he only has one eye when Shisui had none
Nah maybe those who didn’t have functional brain thought that but if u read the manga instead of waiting for the anime it was easy to know it was obito😂
You'd be surprised. I got flamed MERCILESSLY on old manga forums for saying it was obvious who Obito was. Just constant "that's too obvious dumbass you must be a literal gullible child if you believe that shit fucking idiot" type responses.
@@princeosim8995exactly they just talking out they ass no one thought it was obito especially when the maga was at saskue finally taking down itachi. Once tobi told us he was madara we all belived it. Shortly after kisame realized he was madara and we had no reason to belive that kisame would lie. Kisame didn’t even know it was obito he was only known him to be madara even kisame thought he was madara sun this was the pain arc. Before the pain arc tobi was just a dummy character.. no one took him seriously sure he was in the akatski but we assumed he’d be beaten up in the first fight he was in. The first fight we see him in is deidra and saskue and he don’t even take the lead in the fight he runs away. No one had no real indication he was obito. Besides the people who say “tobi and obito sound similar “ that’s not grounds enough to outright say well it’s him. There was never no proof. We didn’t get the flashbacks until after the fact. But since years have passed and it’s not the actual moment people pretending they knew. Really people trying to discredit kishimotos writing ability… and that he was so predictable yet when we was all growing up watching Naruto in real time we didn’t predict Jack we had to watch the story unfold. Now that people can just binge watch Naruto they love to say “oh this was so obvious “ keep in mind sometime there was months before a new episode or Managua chapter. Most people was not reading manag online. The ones that did were the ones farther ahead. Most people depended on anime episodes to know what was going on.
@@rizzlethegreat9682example of what? That many japanese authors like wordplay? Akira toriyama uses them for most of his naming conventions. Goku / kakarot is carrot, and like him all saiyans are based on vegetables. Freezer, cold, cooler, they are all based on frost theme. Eichiro oda who is writing the best selling manga of date uses a wordplay system attributing sounds to numbers and uses them for significant pirate bounties. On top of that, tobi and obito are almost the same, it's not that hard
The amount of people who swore on God that it was Madara, and then it was someone else once it wasn't Madara, and then had the audacity to back pedal and say they knew it was Obito the whole time. Disgusting.
Yeah by tht time everyone figured it out 😂 but before tht nobody had a clue until right before we saw the flashback funny how everyone acting like they knew now

@@lazarperic4525 Obito's right eye was crushed by a boulder so that immediately eliminated Obito from my pool of characters Kishimoto is just an awful writer. There was evidence both for and against Obito being Tobi
I remember seeing a video on RU-vid like 15 years ago of a dude breaking down why he thought tobi was obito and had some really solid points that convinced me. I felt like I was discovering the truth behind the Big Bang lol
He was the only one who figured it out everyone else is lying and I dont get why that guy is goated, he had the typical youtube blue background with the default text and some images
I remember in the early 2000s or maybe the mid 2000s his design or character came out people were already saying who he really was pretty obvious from the jump
I’m glad someone remembers this. There were a couple dozen videos trying to de-bunk the Tobi = Obito theory. The name and the similar hair made it pretty clear to me that it was Obito, but like 1/3 the fandom thought it couldn’t possibly have been him.
It was a weird time, that camp was in such cope because they would say its so OBVIOUS that it isnt Obito because the name is basically the same it was a "diversion" or a rug pull lmao. Funny times.
@@farrquehussein2350 Yeah you guys missed the most braindead retard copers. They were aggravating in their denial of obvious shit. Even worse when they'd say "NO ONE COULD HAVE SEEN THAT COMING, YOU'RE LYING IF YOU SAID YOU KNEW."
Also, when Kakashi and others confronted Obito where he played with them as frilled neck lizard, it was right after Obito and Kakashi childhood arc was released, pointing, that masked Uchiha actually could be Obito.
I remember speculating this one, I was really young I remember when I was in elementary school and we had a few Naruto manga volumes out and it was in volume 27 where we got to see kakashi's young backstory and how Obito died, fast forward like a year later shippuden's already out and there's a few volumes that have already been out and Tobi is introduced, from then on I immediately was just like "that's Obito"
The biggest flub in the anime tbh. In the manga, we get Kakashi Gaiden in between the time skip, and the Three Tails filler arc never happened (Deidara just kinda pulls up on it and Tobi just kinda jokes around. We do get the dumpling shop tho). So it wasn't nearly as obvious bc you don't see Kakashi's backstory right before this guy with spiky black hair and one eye is introduced
Looking back I don't even think it was supposed to be a mystery. The only real intentional misdirect was him claiming to be Madara, but beyond that most of the clues Kishimoto included spelled it out. The more important aspect was why did this once nice kid who is a parallel to Naruto end up as one of the final bosses
I didn’t watch Naruto growing up but I always go back to that dude who made a PowerPoint and uploaded it to RU-vid and he was completely on point with who it was, that dudes a legend I hope he’s solving murders now or sumn
As soon as I heard "Tobi" I knew it was Obito. Also 0:36 we actually didn't know that was Kamui until it was revealed he was Obito. Especially since Tobi & Kakashi's kamui behaved differently from each other (Tobi's didn't have a swirl effect most scenes he used it).
When I was younger I read the manga, and the point that really highlighted this for me was the Kakashi backstop. Obito "dies" and gets crushed by rocks, but later tobi shows up and he's only showing one eye. I figured that it was most likely him and waited years for a confirmation.
You honestly saw that panel where half his body was crushed - covered with boulders and somehow said "Yup that's him" totally magically alive. Keep in mind we knew nothing of his abilities and he said he could even feel his left side.
Before I saw the sharingan I thought he was Dan brought back with reanimation jutsu, looking back it was a pretty stupid idea but I liked the concept of tsunade being forced to choose between killing the love of her life, seeing him die for a 2nd time mind you, and preserving the thing her grandfather held so close.
I remember when people thought it was shisui, and they explained his phasing as an enhanced body flicker, which still to this day is an interesting idea.
I'm one of those people, because it just made sense. Shisui the teleporter and Tobi's technique was teleporting through things. Even if they had the eyes connected with Kakashi I was still under the impression that Shisui could've recovered Obito's body and stole his eye, eventually awakening the Kamui we see Obito doing now. Another thing was the motivation. We knew who Obito was through the Kakashi Chronicles, but we only heard whispers of Shisui, giving plenty of room who the character could be and his motivations. Because Masashi Kishimoto would have to thoroughly convince me that Obito who put his friends first would just do a 180 like that and go against the ninja world like that. Giving us a motivation of why he would go against his teacher and everything. I'm still not convinced of his reasons, because Rin died?
It's impossible because Itachi mentioned he died, so I knew Shisui was long dead. Always thought it was Obito because he recognized Minato and knew he was. I thought that seemed really sus.
Tobi’s first appearance no one knew it was obito until things got more obvious that’s like saying someone knew who the masked man was when he fought the 4th, even though we could connect the two cause of the mask
Surprisingly, a lot of people were surprised. I knew about him before I watched the show but I've seen several people who didn't know I think some people thought it might end up being Madara but I'm not sure
@@vanomzero yeah maybe in your small circle of people. I was part of forums where hundreds and probably thousands of us came to the conclusion it was Obito using basic common sense

@@Netherwolf6100”yeah maybe in your small circle of people”… continues to mention a SUPER small forum with only a petty, maybe thousand people in it when the show consisted of millions of fans…. Yeah you’re one of those “look at me I’m very smart” type of people.
I always thought Tobi was a different character who stumbled onto Obitos body and took his other eye, but it never occurred to me until the 4th great ninja war that it was actually Obito himself.
Once Kakashi started saying his homies name was Obito, I put it together. It was a dope reveal, but it was more like “if this mf ain’t Obito I’m flipping a table”
Yeah it was very much a thing where I was waiting to see kakashi put it together rather than waiting to see who it was cause I figured it out once I watched the kakashi chronicles.
To be fair, Obito's Kamui is very different than Kakashi's and it isn't like Obito went around shouting "KAMUI!" every time he phased into the kamui demension
When they were first talking about him, I actually thought he could be Madara because I wasn't reading the manga at the time and the Anime wasn't that far yet in America (this was near 20 years ago when I was in high school). So for the longest time, I actually thought it would have been Madara because I just had no other information about him at the time but my friend and I were able to piece it together by the time he showed up to Save Sasuke at the 5 Kage Summit.
No literally like thats a big clue I think most people looked past. But I do remember thinking kakashi just sliced the arm rather than making warp into another dimension
From what I was told it was paced differently in the manga. Either way its obvious when you think about it. Then again I didn't think about it so what do i know
@@theonetruefusion8533 what I was saying about the flashbacks was the anime and manga show the flashbacks at different points or at least what I've been told
It was very obvious, I read the manga back then as it released every week and I remember the community joking about Tobi being Obito because it was so obvious that no one actually believed that it was gonna be him. Everyone always thought there was going to be a clever twist or something of the sort once his identity was revealed. Once it was revealed that he was plain old Obito without any twists or extra revelations everyone was so disappointed lol
Before any of the obvious signs like him and Kakashi staring at each others MS's or before he got his mask broken by konan I always thought it was Kakashis dad who got corrupted or some shit(It made more sense in my kid brain lol)
Before the reveal happened in the manga I saw fan art of Tobi’s mask breaking and kid Obito with the goggles was underneath and I said “Yeah that makes sense.”
This was so painfully obvious I can’t believe they even tried to hide it. 1. We never saw obito’s body. 2. Tobi has a right sharingan but not left. 3. Tobi is literally Obito backwards. 4. Kakashi and Tobi’s abilities look similar. 5. We never saw “Madara’s” face 6. The real Madara came back 7. We were shown their abilities were connected 8. They zoomed in on Tobi and Kakashi’s sharingan I mean was anyone actually genuinely surprised by this? I wish there were more twists that come out of nowhere like “I am your father.” Not ones with so much build up it makes it too obvious.
nice troll, I remember being clowned for having common sense and knowing it was obito, there's so many dumb people out there with absurd theories. Then when it was revealed it was obito they blamed kishimoto and said his writing was bad for being wrong lmao
Tobi revealing himself to be Obito was probably the most anticlimactic reveal in all of manga. We’d all been sitting there for years knowing damn well who it was 😂
Nah he's celebrating for having proof of predicting it right. I read the manga like 6 years ago and I'm pretty sure I guessed it when he met Sasuke with Deidara and thought : "Could it really be him ? he's too goofy"
I was a manga reader, the kakashi flashback chapter is essentially a bonus in the last volume of the original manga (before shippuden), so once Tobi showed up it was clear and obvious, and the fandom was also making theory posts about it
