This takes me back. Jimmy Olsen was my favorite comic as a 4 year old kid. Newsboy Legion, The Guardian, The 4 Armed Terror, Don Rickles! I quickly graduated to New Gods, Forever People and Mister Miracle! Also loved Kirby’s Kamandi and The Demon. Jack definitely was The King! Thanks for bringing back some fond memories of being a kid in the early 70’s!

Very complete and entertaining review!

Apparently, this Ominibus was also released as FOUR separate hardcover books. That's how freaking BIG this book really is. Beyond ordering the book and putting it on the shelf, I haven't tried to read it. I just bought it because it is Jack's work. I bought Omac, Mr Miracle, The Forever People, The Demon in hardcover, the others in tpb.

Great vid, thanks for this. Glad to see the solicits were wrong about Mr. Miracle as that was kind of worrying to me. I have the 4 volume set of "omnibus" that came out all those years ago and was going to keep them if this mammoth monster didn't have MM. After watching this, I flipped through the other pre omni omnibus for Fourth World and it looked like they just combined the 4 books into one. Hunger Dogs was included in that older set as well as all the bio pages. I love it's all in one book now, but I don't know, I still think "maybe" they could have split it in 2 just because of the sheer size, but I'm not complaining, happy to see it get the better paper and oversized treatment :) Have a great day and thanks again for this review :)

good lord, I gasped when he took the dust jacket off, what a nerd. I was expecting like the typical flat black underneath, but that sold me.

That's an interesting run. Great spotlight, btw. I have the simonson's thor, and that is a thick book. But the new gods made thor looks like a thin omni like Hawkeye omnibus.

Well, as a follow-up to my comment from your Thanksgiving show, you just convinced me to pick up this book. I knew it would be massive but was afraid the paper quality would be as low quality as regular comic paper from the time. The paper looks very good considering the number of them in this tome and the color looks fantastic. Spine, once properly stretched, looks like it would handle this large volume. I have the first printing of Simonson Thor and always thought that one was thick but that was less than 1200 pages (although the paper on the 1st printing is pretty thick). 1550 pages is crazy! Thanks for doing this review so fast...how did you get the book so quickly since it was just made available this week at IST?

Great video. I can get the book at the moment for quite cheap but I'm reluctant to buy it because I didnt like the eternals omnibus too much, with the old style writing (I know that's not a popular thing to say with kirby) how does it read?

I love Jake Kirby's work and want to get this badly.

The omnibus solicitation text was a little misleading, but I do remember reading a copy of the solicitation that was correct and some interview material that explained what was included.

There's a lot of Superman in that book. All I now about the New Gods is Darkseid from The Justice League movie.

Your book has a couple of imperfections. There is a faded splotch over Jack Kirby's head. 5:11 As you turn the book around, there is a faded area, a line about 5/8" across the book. It's on the character's forehead, in the blue. Just noting that those are either areas missing some sealer wax clear, or a print imperfections. It might just be the clear missed those areas. The spot over Jack's logo could have been done by a thumb or a finger. Maybe the clear wasn't completely dry. Anyway, I have the book too. Those books are nice to have but I buy the smaller books that went into the omni. The books aren't too practical when it comes to trying to read them. If you want to sit at a big table in a chair to read them, then that would work. But try to hold that book or prop it up with pillows in a chair is a chore. I feel the same way about other omnis.

The contents say, The New Gods (Reprint Series 1-6). I just looked this up on Ebay. The New Gods went to 11 issues. The "Reprint Series" only went to six issues and they have different covers on each of the six books. So, that seems like a big deal. Why were five issues of the New Gods left out? I have the tpb of the New Gods, so I guess I have what is missing. The ordering of the books coming out each month and year in the Omni just made me put the book down. I can't jump from book to book New Gods, Mister Miracle, etc. And I really unaware of what The Hunger Dogs were/are.

I looked for this book and it was called the Absolute fourth world volume 1... its a preorder though for the 27th May... whats going on?

re-coloring on the omnis that carry older material can add or take away from the original art thats one thing i really liked about the original kirby omnibuses why the glued binding sucked the old none glossy paper & original coloring made them feel like you were reading the original singles

Glad it has Mister Miracle but absolutely furious how played i just was, as i bought the new mister miracle collection as i'd been led to believe it wasn't in this Omnibus as the idiots at DC omitted that it was included in this omnibus but made sure to make an omnibus for mister miracle BEFORE they released this! now i guess i just have to sell it? FUCK

There was a complaint that there was a duplication of of page 864 on page 943 and that the page that should be on 943 was entirely omitted from the book. Can you tell me if that is true of your copy? Thanks

I watched another video and it explained that DC cancelled all of Jack's Fourth World books, all at the same time. So yes, you could say that DC soured on what Jack was doing. The video said that Jack was understandably devastated. I guess he manned up though. These days you would think someone might become suicidal. Imagine having your life's work, your art, your thoughts, your ideas, being cancelled. Of course, Leftists do this now every day like breathing. And yes, I'm saying something political because it's true. Yes, I don't know what I'm talking about really because I've never read the books. I do know that Carol Danvers Captain Marvel has been canceled and rebooted several times, this according to Richard Meyer at Comics Matter with ya Boi Zack.
