I co wrote that song with Leon Ware and am still amazed at how quickly Micheal learned a song , It still sounds great , he was so talented and the rest of the guys too .!!!
I'm not going to let u get away with your attempt at modesty. You also wrote or co-wrote "Love Child", "If I Were Your Woman", "My Whole World Ended", and "Love Hangover" for the Supremes, Gladys Knight and the Pips, David Ruffin and others. That, my friends, is R&B and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ROYALTY. I bow down! YOU HAVE BEEN OUTED! When u have time, please comment on the prolific nature of Michael learning a song, etc. Any other nugget on the Motown artists would be good as well.
@@kissmiss1936 The same way you do things at your job without thinking about it that an observer watching would be amazed by. I remember being a cashier as a youngster and I used to hit the keys so fast on the cash register, there was a delay as the computer had to catch-up. Customers would be so amazed at how I did that. If they did thousands of transactions they'd be able to do the same. Same difference.
I remember when as a teenager I got this album. I screamed and cried. I loved the Jackson 5. I had every album, every picture from Right-on mag, and any other magazine that featured them. I was in the J5 fan club. Had pen pals all over the world. Saw them in concert many times. Had the pleasure of meeting Michael, Janet, Jermaine, Marlon, Jackie and Ms. Katherine. Oh, I lived them so much. Today at 64 in 2022, I still love them. 😆
His voice maturing and changing and deepening is so so so pretty and it’s cool to see how he went from this high soulful voice to this voice to his later all range voice
"Too Late To Change The Time" However it is never too late to become a Jackson fan. I appreciate their music more than ever!! This band was simply ahead of their time!!
Melancholy Hills His voice changed when puberty hit and was pretty much deep. He just talked in a lighter voice because that's what the world knew him and accepted him.
@@tracydavis5253 yea I feel like his singing style in the future was manipulated into that way because they werent to sensitive by the fact that his voice was changing and still made them perform old songs that were to high without lowering the key... So before his voice fully crossed over he managed to force out the high notes by singing thru his nose which created the nasally voice he used in the future. Idk if he just liked the way it sounded or got used to doing it but i do know they damaged his confidence in his deep voice he looked at his deeper range as a bad thing which potentially lost us the chance of hearing him belt full range into his deep register which he was able to do but didn't like to. He was already a versitile singer but I feel the way they did him made him keep his voice in a box he didn't get to explore different sounds his voice could make and only wanted to train his falsetta and high voice. Just think of how much more of a vocal power house he couldve been if he was told its ok to sing in a bass voice your fans will still support u. We hear it alittle bit in Billie Jean but he never went all the way with it and I personally liked the sound of his lower register alittle better. Also having to force his voice higher also created the hiccup sound he did.. Im a fan of his voice Either way but it bothers me when people say mj wasn't that great of a vocalist because of his nasally sound and hiccups because he had a 4 octave range and he never used half of his range he had alot more to offer in his voice that we unfortunately never got to hear
@@lelelew2735 I don’t think he sounded nasally. I agree he sung mostly high. For MJ I think he sung high for stylistic reasons. Lyric voices like his tend to shine in the higher register so maybe he was afraid of losing his identifiable sound. He would sing his backgrounds in his lower voice though. In the 90s and beyond he should’ve definitely started to sing lower
@@mssha1980 yea he was nasally on " baby be mine" " human nature" and more.. some like you said was for style to have a signature sound but he started singing nasally when his voice changed trying to hit the high notes..it was the only way he could force them out since they didnt lower the key.so my guess is he got used to singing like that any vocal coach would've corrected that and told him to sing in his natural deeper voice...but I dont think he had a choice people wanted to hear the old songs in the same key apparently lol ..I think his deeper voice sounded more natural at times and suited him like in " man in the mirror he has deeper moments and it sounded great or" rock my world" his voice sounded more smooth like he wasnt forcing anything.. and people say he could go into the bass range like in 2000 watts or lower but he never used it.. and I think it's a pity because if he made such an outstanding mark only using half of his vocal range then just think of the creative possibilities if he used his lower range more
@@tracydavis5253 I think he meant it from an adolescent standpoint (when the Jackson 5 did the song in 1973...Michael's voice was clearly in transition) as opposed to vocal maturity.
so, after a few seconds of MJ singing, I have to pause it. other wise i could faint, he sounds soo incredible and looks soo gorgeous! DAYUM!! sooo dreamy! :3 x
Damn 40 years ago i remember when my Mother brought home that album for me when i was a kid. That was a hot album The J5/Jacksons not (Mike) were the sound of young America in that era.
You are so correct. On all these Jackson 5 posts all that people seem to see is Mike. They don't realize the Jackson 5 were a part of a musical movement. Each brother had talent in his own right. This was not like today's boy bands. The Jackson 5 could play live and bring down the house anywhere in world without a bunch of background dancers and backing tracks. They were the real deal.
+Brilliantbeing Yeah but everyone has their favorite. Some were bigger fans of Jermaine, Michael, etc. Obviously they're a talented group. I don't think it necessary to make a fuss if people specifically came to see one over another.
The overall sound of the group changed as well. It was also on this album that he first employed what would later be known as his "vocal hiccup", notably on the song "It's Too Late to Change the Time".[3] As Motown frowned on any sort of control being relinquished to the group, Michael semi-retired the hiccup until his solo career at Epic Records began in earnest with Off the Wall in 1979.[3]
Very nice video, taking me back to my childhood looking at and listening to the Jackson Five every chance I got, on our TV with the rabbit ears, so yall know how the reception could get(lol). Great ole days...
While you folks are going gaga over Michael, the critical eye will see that this group has a tight sound, and flawless harmonies. It's damn near incredible! I don't think the Jacksons has gotten their due yet.
***** Glad you noticed. But you are woefully wrong. I dont try to MAKE people do anything. Just lay out the facts the way i see them, and you make up your own mind as to what it means to you. You are wrong about another point as well: You said that "people nowadays" only care about . . . .' I would submit to you that I am a PEOPLE, and given that "nowadays" is NOW, your assertion is incorrect. Correction: YOU only care about Michael and Janet.
***** Outdated? Michael was an artist in the 60's, and Janet was an artist in the 80's. You've got your times confused. Maybe you need to listen to Fetty Wap?
Thanks for posting! This is my first time seeing this performance! It was a school night and I was asleep by the time The Tonight Show aired. I love the Jackson 5/Jacksons and this is one of my favorite songs! : )
Theresa P. I remember watching Johnny Carson the night the Jackson five were on - and I am very suspicious about Lucy having to leave....but I'm not going to go there with that! She's not prejudice! No not Lucy.... Right???
Grew up with MJ loved his thriller album best! I remember in the 80's when i was young my brother n cousin had the mj doll with stand thriller version and billie jean doll LOL But yes i remember everytime a MJ video came out it was a huge thing and i remember my cousin coming over to show me first a pirated overseas copy of jam video clip with jordan i was the first to see it in my town LOL MJ is the man and no artist will ever be as big as he was!
For those questioning Michael's changing apperance, just watch his live performances. You can see that nothing has changed. Even from being a teenager. Same moves, same facial expressions. Same Michael.
This album "Dancing Machine...!!...Man I wore it out ....All the kids at my school thought I was crazy .. And they were right ...I was a damn fool for the Jackson 5 ..
@@regalincogbeauty skipping work, intimate friends, he's a friend of mine, tell her love has felt the need, date with the rain, girl , you need a change of mind, goin up in smoke, shoe shine boy! do i know bout Eddie Kendricks?? if you don't know! you better ask somebody! LOL! fading away, slow down heart.....COME ON NOW!! LOL! i apologize for speaking of the one and only Eddie on the J5 vidieo ,but you took me there~ MOTOWN FAMILY FOREVER!
This time Johnny Carson's director remembered to keep the camera on Michael and not on Randy playing the bongos. In their Dancing Machine performance, he had the camera on Randy at a critical moment and Randy actually stopped playing.
IT IS MICHAEL TO LATE TO CHANGE THE TIME BABY BECAUSE I WOULD SHOLL AS HELL GO BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD WHEN REAL SHOW BUSINESS TALENT EXISTED AND YOU AND YOUR FAMILY RULED THE WORLD AND YOU WOULD STILL BE HERE 😔 I WAS BORN IN 1972 THIS SONG CAME OUT IN 74 I WAS 3 MY PARENTS LOVED THIS SONG ❤️✊🏾❤️
I cant shake the thought that somewhere this taping is in its original quality, audio and visual. I would just love to see all of these old performances in better quality and most of all, hear it in a much more cleaner way way. Michaels voice just sounds phenomenal during these years and im so fond of having at least these clips... but turning up the volume to hear him better only increases all the noise too... !! ONE DAY i hope someone will open up some sort of vault or whereevr they are stored
THE JACKSONS KISSING LUCY BALL IT DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER SEE WHY I WANT MY CHILDHOOD WE DO NOT HAVE TALENT LIKE THIS IN MOVIE TV OR FILM HELL EVEN COMMERCIALS HAVE NO TALENT TODAY 😂 BACK I WAS 3 WHEN THIS AIRED AND HONESTLY I REMEMBER WATCHING IT ❤️❤️❤️
Wow, how iconic, Michael Jackson, Johnny Carson, and Lucille Ball sharing the same stage! That’s crazy! The performance was great, but I was always lukewarm on this song. It just has that Las Vegas show tune type of vibe, not a good song for The Jackson. It was devoid of soul, but they did their best with it.
On the recording, it's just singing like he did as a child with a few vocal hiccups, but in the live performance you can hear a lot of his renowned affectations. Just listen to that "You don't have to go further." Inspiring. I'm recording a cover of this today.
