Thanks for a great video. As xdave83 says below, I used this to help change the front discs and pads on my 2011 XJ (X351) and with your help it was dead easy. 9mm hex key was about £6 from Amazon to fit 1/2" sq. drive. Took a couple of hours taking it steady. I had to push the piston in before I could lift the caliper off but other than that everything was spot on. Saved £180 in labour. Parts £470 from Jag. but could have paid just £220 from local motor factors. Not much more expensive than when I had the front discs done on my V70 D5. Many thanks again.
Thanks for uploading this. These are the same standard brakes fitted to the X351 XJ, and I was able to get the 9mm hex bits in advance of changing them on mine thanks to your video.
Cheers for a great video. Just been caught out with the 9mm Allen key. Had most strange sizes but not a 9mm lol. No waiting for the tool to arrive. When it comes to brake discs and pads I have found EBC stuff amazing compared to most brands. Their basic black pads are often better then stock and a lot cheaper.
It was a bit hard breaking when I took as couldn't fill any breaking at all it started after few hard breaking like u said take it easy first. I changed all of them thank you very much appreciated it
Great video , especially the 9mm hex tip and torque settings. Mine are the same 355 mm discs but I managed to wriggle the disk off without removing the carrier so have left the bolts undisturbed.. Refitting the spring clip was the difficult part.
Hi, Great video. I intend to replace the brake rotors and pads on my XF soon. What kind of lubricant do you use for the guide pins? Silicone or copper lubricant? For the brake caliper bracket and pads corners i'm planning to use copper lubricant. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work
Jaguar dealer in Arizona wanted $2200 to replace front and rear! That's pads only not discs and pads, just pads. Did it myself for about $150 and that's after waiting another 8 months for the front because they had a lot of life left. I've always worked on my own cars but never had a Jag before so was a bit concerned that it might have some tricks (like the 9mm hex you mentioned), that would drag out the process. Overall not bad except that spring clip system is awfully precarious/unnecessarily odd, to get back on which is probably by design so we don't try to do this ourselves. Anyway thanks for the video, saved me money and time.
Hi, good informative video. Ive got same brakes and about to change my discs and pads . Can i ask, im having trouble getting a 9mm hex socket. Is that a 1/2" or 3/8" drive ?
The front wheel hub and bearing assembly comes as one unit (with wheel studs, ABS ring and bearings) which bolts to the suspension as you mentioned. I believe the torque is 90Nm. Part for my car (MY 2010 XF) is C2C19585
Great video thank you. I had a nightmare lining the 9mm hex bolts up so had to take the calliper off and then fit them. I do have an issue now though, whilst everything is back on and secured, my pedal is spongy. I never broke into the system nor did I pinch the brake line. Any suggestions?
My pads weren't that worn, so I wicked a little out with kitchen towel. You could also use a syringe (the ones that come with Calpol are OK) or a turkey-baster works too :)
Hi did your breaks smoke a bit after changing the pads and disc. I did it on mine and took it for drive after I stopped noticed little smoke from front and all 4 discs were bit hot any idea please thanks
Did you do all of them or just the fronts? There may be a bit of the oily coating left on the new disc that is burning off with the heat. If it was the rears, make sure you reset the park brake. BTW you're supposed to be taking it easy for the first 200 miles or so! ;) Have a look at the forums for breaking in new brake discs (and avoiding judder... new video coming soon...)
Do you need a long 9mm hex socket or will a standard one be ok. Thanks for making everyone aware of the tool required this will save me lots of time :-)
Did brakes and rotors engine off pumps firm high and tight start engine and pedal goes to floor with it barely stopping was not an existing problem any suggestions how to fix.
not of my creation..but if you put in place the bottom or top tab first and then use a plastic medium duty zip-tie to hold it in place, there is a feature on the carrier that is perfectly placed to allow you to do this, you can then grab the other end of the clip with a set of pliers and force it into place. After this it won't be perfectly seated yet so then tap the assembly with a mallet into place then cut the zip tie once the clip center tab is properly seated into the caliper.
Is this the same process for 09 Jaguar XF Supercharged with 20 wheels? And do we have to buy the those bolds or can we reuse them with some threat lock?
When I used Ferrodo pads I had to file a little the sided and bottom. See the the sensor fit nicely home without the spring. Then take the sensor out again and put the spring in the sensor,, Then push the whole lot in the recess with the spring one at one side and one at the other . Make sure it goes all the way in. Hope this will help.
Hi Leon, I am looking at pads but they're just the bare pads, nothing else. Can the I get them or do I need other stuff like the shims and lubricant as well?
Is this a 2010 Jaguar XF? I have one and need to change the breaks and rotors asap. I don't want to take it to the dealer because they charge me a lot.
Yes it's a MY2010 XF-S. As I say in the video, my front calipers may be bigger than the non-S car, but the process is very similar. Make sure you know what size your discs are before ordering, there is more than one size!
I just replaced my front pads and have little to no brake pressure. I bled all lines and still no brake pressure. Anyone have any advice on what to do to fix this?
