I didn’t think fakes would have texture this good anytime soon… But if it is indeed fake the flaws will come out somehow - the differences you showed between the photo and your copy already hint at that. I feel that when he zooms in on the image the texture on glaceon’s leg is more in line with the English version and not as detailed as the Japanese version. Am I seeing things?
A buddy received a fake eevee heroes flareon V from a seller on Mercari. It was pretty good but the texture was more of the English detail than the Japanese detail. It was pretty good but sad we have to deal with fakes
That would be a safe assumption, however this card and image was listed on a FB group as a self proclaimed fake. The story behind this Glaceon is what carries the 'fake' assessment; it's ultimately up for debate.

I'm not sure there are fakes... yet... in Hong Kong when the eevee heroes reprint came out, collectors here identified different texturing between the first batch when initially released and the reprint. We had side-by-sides showing the differences. Also, for the simplifiied Chinese cards (which we will get in HK as well), we have confirmed that the printing will be in Japan as its clearly labeled in Chinese
Makes you wonder if an experienced Pokemon collector such as yourself has trouble differentiating, how will grading companies be able to weed out all the fakes
I don’t believe it’s a fake and here’s why. I have picked up Eevee heroes boxes directly from Japan Pokémon center, both from the reprint and the newest print. I had already heard of sylveon VMax getting “fixed” by adding glitter to the eyes, which it didn’t have before. I later learned from my pulls and speculation from others, that all of the VMax alts in Eevee heroes had more glitter added to them, which was verified when I pulled the Umbreon VMax Alt. I believe it’s a mixture of more glitter being added to the overall card, and only being able to see from one angle that makes this card appear to be fake, but I don’t believe it is
While I want to believe this is just someone playing a prank with the next August 2022 wave of Special Arts, the card in the static image is still missing the pronounced elements that are present on all Japanese Special Art cards. I can totally see what you mean though, a few people have shared the reprint Special Arts with me in recent days and they do vary to last years original release.
I don't think it's fake. I've seen people pull cards from the new print run of Eevee Heroes that look off but are perfectly legit; just errors and different print.
Very interesting video. Seeing the comments, I feel like a good follow up video would be to get a hold of this card from the most recent print run and compare it to yours in person.

Thank you for sharing this info, I picked up a few cards from Mercari last week, luckily no Evee Hero's as they are crazy expensive and with this possible fake I think I'll just appreciate the only SA I managed to get back when the set first released, Vaporeon.

I don’t know if that’s a fake and if it is it’s insanely good, reason why I say that is I find with different Japanese print runs, the cards have slight unobvious differences at first glance. For example Sylveon vmax, one version I’ve seen is glittered eyes and another had non-glittered eyes. A few people also talked about it on a discord im in too
Yeah, looking over the photo a bit more, I'm not totally conviced that the card is a fake, though he does bring up solid points in his analysis A part of me also wants to believe that the things he called out are due to the differences in the reprint that people have been talking about ad nauseam
I saw your pics in the Discord. Just based on the story of this Glaceon (from the FB seller) I'm not convinced it's just a 4th wave version of the card (from the August 2022 reprint) - those cards still have the pronounced Energy + Text elements.

I just came across auctions for a few eeveelution fullarts for just 10 bucks a pop, I decided to not get them because the description did say they were 'replicas for display' but from what I could tell they also had texturing and accurate patterns. There were some things off about the cards but if they actually were replicas it is worrying, they didn't instantly jump out as fakes, they might've even been real and it was just the lighting.

Question for you guys. Do you care if a card is fake, even if it's an identical replica with the exact same texture, foil pattern, print quality and feel to it? Personally I do care and want my cards to be real because they hold value. But there was a time when I wore replica sneakers that looked near identical to the real thing, only because I couldn't get my hands on real ones without paying resale. When it comes to Pokemon cards however, I can buy singles at mostly reasonable prices with some exceptions. But lets say you bought a replica of the Vmax Umbreon and it looked as real as can be, would it matter unless you tried selling it as real?
Ya the texturing feels different to me. I can see why it was keeping ya up at night. Tbh, the fake English cards we’ve seen have always puzzled me. It’s not that hard to get high res versions of the actual cards. The texturing is always what’s difficult to get right. What’s spooky is that the texturing here looks great.
i have absolutely no faith that psa would be able to detect a fake that good ( personally i think youre overblowing it and its a real card, the new print run is noticeably worse than the original. as someone who handles thousands of japanese cards every month, the difference in print runs is pretty massive at times) . ive sent some cards in to psa expecting 8s and get 10s. they gotta be blind.
I give this a a 95% chance of being real. It’s already known that the reprint is more glittery than the original print. I can only assume that’s what’s happening here. What I find more interesting is that first print from the GX era seems to be back. If you don’t know what that is just ask and I’ll explain
Yea plus the lighting was quite different, it looked pretty real to me when he was comparing them What do you mean by the gx cards back, just that China is getting cards from sets way behind ?
@@CatMelon12 GX card era had what is referred to first print. It was the first batch of cards made in the US made with card stock sent over from Japan. Consequently those cards have a secondary texture like Japanese cards. It still has the more spaced out texture as normal but also a secondary texture that interacts with the second. It’s like a happy medium between normal US cards and Japanese. It is most easily seen on HF cards. The two textures hit each other and make a cross hatching pattern and the card is more lustrous as a result. Also since they were printed first they are cut sharper because they are cut first. Just like knives a die will dull over time. Basically all BGS black labels were first print. This first print ended with the V/SwordShield era cards but I’ve noticed some differences with Alt arts since LO came out. That make sense?
Sad truth is you will never know til you have the card in hand whether it is fake or not. Graded or not, when I receive expensive cards I do multiple checks with a magnifying glass and like most people look at the texture. Super sussy these days some ebay sellers just happen to have infinite number of moonbreon10s to sell. But then again evo skies reprinted to the ground so it makes sense there are thousands of psa 10s. Still sussy to me tho.
So, there’s a few things here that I have mulled over in my head over the past few years of collecting physical goods (cards included), but I do want to think out loud here for a moment (open discussion). First - if a card is a physical object, then there is an established way of creating said object. There’s a printer, a certain type of card stock, paper, foil, way they etch these surfaces, etc. And the items necessary to make these things are seldom created “in-house”. I’d imagine they’re usually outsourced to third party companies (that could very well do some under the table shady deals to other parties willing to give some money) Second - there definitely are ways of scanning surfaces of cards (isn’t this how some newer grading companies check for surface condition?) What’s stopping some shady printing company from just getting a hold of a genuine card, scanning the surface to get the appropriate texturing patterns, and then recreating the product themselves with that data? Sure, a genuine card costs a lot now, but even if they bought a genuine umbreon for $1500 usd that’s an investment if they can scan and reprint out hundreds and drip feed them into the market for 1000+x return I think this pretty much goes for any physical good in that… if there’s nothing that can’t be physically recreated (like proprietary software or other stuff), then shady companies will always have a means to recreate it. It’s just that before, there was little incentive for a printing company to do much beyond just a rough scan and printing it on generic card stock to scam the lay-person. But now with people becoming more savvy about fakes, taking a little care could end up being a more profitable business model for these companies to fly under the radar for longer, which is unfortunate 🙁
I’ve seen a Leafeon V Full Art without the leaf texture. Either they faked an entire box, pulled the secret and planted a fake pack with a very convincing fake full art, or there are errors in the printing process. Also I’ve pulled cards from very convincing fresh boxes that seem off. Again either we’re getting duped at a grand scale or sometimes there are quality differences in the production process.
I think they need to put small Unique QR code. with information what it is. Like artworks. Today I was scamed in hury I bought fake booster english version. I was in hurry, wife calling work stuff and I bought from teenager boosters. I was naive, though in my country there isn’t fake stuff but I was wrong. When I came home see what I bought I was. Disappointed. In my country there isn’t lot of options to buy ore it is very overpriced. Sometimes I sell some to but you always need to be careful. 😅 don’t buy in hurry.
i think its just a bad angle and not the best image. if someone could reach a fake that well, english fakes would already be extremely prevalent and there would be hundreds of listings of all the alternate arts on tcgplayer.
21:27 Today I learned some grading companies are like the mafia 😂 Overall if this is a fake, this is insane, but also I should hope that with video and better pictures we would be able to determine it. It's just very hard to say from one picture for me.
I feel like a lot of what is confusing about this card is due to bad lighting / multiple lighting sources and camera quality. Might be a thing to test this theory.
In the reveal trailer of the simplified chinese cards, CEO Tsuunekaze Ishihara mentioned these cards will have different printing methods and textures unique to this language. This means they wont be using the same texturing as the Japanese cardd. I guess Japanese cards will be safe.
Honestly, it is impossible to tell (if this particular card is fake) without having the card in hand. The story surrounding the post is what's driving the entire speculation. If the card IS fake, I wonder what the back looks like.
The story is the most interesting part about this, how does a random post quietly being deleted lead to someone throwing out a rumor that China is producing extremely realistic fakes? Weird leap in logic tbh.
I don’t think it’s fake…. I think This card is the “New Reprint run ” imo.. lil over a month ago PtcgRadio made a video about how completely different the new print run looks then the original…
In the static image you see the red letters also has the shine when the light hit the hoof. I could not really see this happening on your card! Can you try to replicate that on your card? If not it is not printed the same real or not but different!

Imagine its fake and it still looks better than non japanese cards lol. That said, i don't think it's fake, because we never really saw anything fake that looked even remotely that good

Very interesting how the cards are more shown and the process the American have to compare with Japanese. There is always that huge gap between Japanese cards than any other and Japanese are just f*!kin amazing. In knowing the difference between fake and real would be easier if the printing companies were to identify to the card grading companies the one of few things to look at. Similar to how real currency have been strict with the end process and identifying the real from fakes. Would it be critical if the printing companies created limited number system for how many copies there are to eliminate the inventory of fakes out there?
But Jluv how do we know which one is real if our eyes aren't real? On a more serious note, the real thing that makes fakes easy to see is the back of the card and the feel of the card.
Just based on my own reasoning I'd say the Glaceon is a fake, a good one but still so. A lot of fake products tend to get the main aspect of a product down to a t and replicate it well, at the expense of not quite getting the smaller details right that ultimately catch them out. The texturing on the Glaceon itself looks pretty much spot on, but the text, the energies and the boxes looking as flat as they do tells me that it's ultimately not a real card, albeit frighteningly close
I think the fact that they will be releasing Simplified Chinese cards in China is a bit concerning because it gives opportunities for more fakes in demand once the market is there.
Don’t worry bro it’s just a different print run and they changed it for whatever reason. Probably a supply chain issue. Our HF had like 4 different prints of the baby shinies. First print, normal print, then they changed to glossy on the non holo part then a bumpier glittery type. Wish I could show you but you will have ti take my word for it
That's fair since Lost Abyss is a newer set and the Aerodactyl Alt Art isn't that expensive in Japan, hence why I picked one up since the English version over in the states is over $100. Whenever I'm looking over a card to make sure it's legit, moreso for WotC era cards, I usually stop to ask myself 'would it even make sense for somebody to take the time and effort to fake this?'.
@@mhammer9223 yea it doesn’t pass the makes sense test. The Japanese cards have state of the art printers using the best card stock. Makes no sense to buy those machines even if they could for millions of dollars when they would flood the market and crash the price. Plus it would be obvious some bs was happening when a huge influx of cards that are super hard to pull all of a sudden popped up
Last month JLUV responded to a tweet pointing out the differences between first print and reprint Eevee Heroes HRs and dismissed it, saying it was "just the result of different lighting angles. Nothing to see here" Then now he comes out with this video and points out differences on a rumored fake which are probably due to, you guessed it, lighting and angles. How does that make any sense? Big fan of your content :) I did watch your video, and first off, I'm not sure why you're implying that I'd have any sort of inclination to "pipe up" when you dismissed the differences between the reprints and the first prints the first time. I saw the differences. Other people also saw the differences. You didn't, and that's fine. Whatever, right? But the issue here in this case is that in this video, based purely on speculation and ZERO confirmation, you're sounding an alarm on something that very likely doesn't exist. It's all over this comments section - that card looks way more real than it does fake. I just think it's very interesting that the same inconsistencies you pointed out in the "fake" card are the same exact differences that several people have already pointed out on reprint alternate arts. Not trying to suggest any sort of ulterior motive here, but I can't help but feel a little bit sus about it all. I want you understand that we're on the same boat in that we're both trying to help other collectors. This isn't about clout or internet points. But you spreading around a rumor that there are hyper realistic fakes out there without any sort of confirmation is more dangerous than anything.

I spent a solid 22 minutes going into detail, explaining my reasoning here, and why I felt it was important to discuss it despite there being a lack of information. And as informed collectors who actually care about the hobby, we should be doing everything in our power to avoid spreading misinformation, especially when we know so little right now. The main point I'm trying to make here is that based on how much we don't know (which again is frankly, way too much), preemptively signal boosting this will ultimately cause more harm than good. I'm not descrediting the fact that you took a lot of time to elaborate on your suspicions here, but you also took five minutes to analyze a static photo when, in your words, what you're seeing is likely "just the result of different lighting angles". I can literally pick out several frames on your video when you were showing off your copy of the Glaceon and the specific parts of the card looked flat (Energy, other text, etc.) just like the photo of the alleged fake. Then there's the issues with the story you provided in the video as well, which can be summarized in four points: 1. Glaceon VMAX was listed and then deleted (why is this cause for suspicion?) 2. Admin who deleted the post doesn't confirm or deny anything 3. Someone else (who might not even be related to the person who posted the card up in the first place, that wasn't made clear) alleges that China is mass producing high quality fakes 4. The prevailing thought turns into "Hmm... CHINA... producing... FAKES?!? They might be onto something, actually!!" (which is an incredibly prejudiced take by the way, and something I'm probably taking more umbrage with than I should be, though I realize that you didn't come up with it) How in the world did we get to connecting point #1 to point #4? What am I supposed to glean as a viewer from so much missing in the actual story? Not even a screenshot of the actual post or the interactions associated with it? Like, I'm seeing in another reply you made that it was a "self proclaimed fake", but even that isn't mentioned in your video. Sorry man, I just really think you're jumping the gun and there's just too much missing here to be taken seriously. I genuinely hope you do a follow up video on this, maybe somehow obtaining one of those fake copies or even getting copies of the reprinted cards to compare with your own first prints, because that's a point I see a lot of people bringing up (and something I'm surprised you didn't mention at all in this video).

To me, nothing can compare to truly touching and seeing the card in hand. Are there convincing fake cards from a photo? Yes. But I'd really love to see the best fakes in hand and see how they hold up.
