I don't see this being as potent either. KD misses the next season. When he returns for '20-'21 he will be playing his way back into a rythm. So we're probably looking at season 3 before we really know what's what with them. With kyrie showing he's more like lebron then we ever could have known 2 years ago, it just doesn't look great to me

Put KD with the two best shooters on the planet AND two of the best defenders on the planet, and people act like he's the second coming. Do you remember Durant before GSW? Do you remember Kyrie before LeBron? KD and Kyrie are two of the most talented individuals in the history of the game, but combined they couldn't lead a dog on a leash. Complicating matters is the addition of DeAndre Jordan. A real alpha. His ins't going to mesh well with two hyper-sensitive superstars. This Nets team is going to be great in terms of skills and entertainment value, both on the court and in the media coverage, not all of it good.

@@jendroanggono4669 The Nets just became OKC 2.0. Except KD is turning 31yo this year and has a ruptured Achilles. He'll likely be 33yo before he plays in a game again. Then he'll like need most of a season to get back into true form. Age 34. So in an ideal timeline, KD and a 30yo Kyrie are finally clicking 3 years from now in the 2021-2022 season. So the Nets realistically will have a 2-yr window from 2021-2023 to compete for a Championship but I'm sorry to tell you the East will be firmly locked down by 76ers and Bucks in their primes. The Nets will struggle to remain mid-level playoff contenders more worried about fighting off teams like the new-look Wizards than competing for a chip. Also sorry to tell you but KD and Kyrie are fully aware of this. KD went for the business and media opportunities and Kyrie went to be at home. Beyonce, Jay-Z, and pizza. This is a multi-layer marketing move. They will entertain but talk of championships is foolish at best.

Nets will be shocked to find out that they won't be much better this year with Irving and no KD. And then they've gotta make sure KD comes back, is the same player he was before, stays healthy, and then figure out how the pieces fit all while KD is also aging into his final good years. It's gonna be two years before we see if this was even halfway worth it for Brooklyn.

How does this logic make sense for a losing franchise (Hawks, Knicks, Memphis)? "We don't want a guy like Russell Westbrook or Kyrie by themselves." Logic is that guy alone won't elevate your franchise and will cost too much money. Now the ignorance is ignoring how much money in ticket sales and tv those players generate, the fact that those guys can win you 12 games out of a season by themselves, the fact that Stars attract other stars to play with them in the same way as NOT having any stars on your team makes it so players don't want to play with you, and last point of mine is the insane amount of money these losing teams are already paying low quality players trumps the amount they would pay for a player like Kyrie or Russell Westbrook. WTF?

Like all players as a basketball competitor and fans I wish them all well but the reality is someone similar to LeBron James coming back to Cleveland after Kyrie Irving got established and then had to adjust his game to LeBrons. When Kevin Durant comes back, Kyrie Irving will have already been established the question is will Kyrie Irving be willing to adjust his game for Kevin Durant, because even though Kevin Durant can play off the ball they both need the ball?

I think KD might be an exception to the rule in this case,his game doesn't rely on his athletic abilities its based on his length shooting over defenders and finding angles,footwork, soft touch in the mid range and outside shooting he will lose some speed but he dosent rely on that,his skill always out weighed his athleticism

If Kyrie returns to his previous form of being able to hit outside shots and Durant heals then all is well. But if Irving's personality is as charming as it was in Boston and Durant takes longer to heal or heals less than 80 percent then Brooklyn blew it by not developing Russell and taking on two players with too many surgeries. It'll be a challenge for sure. I'm praying KD comes back who he was cuz the league needs that this is coming from a Mavs and also GSW fan. Steph is and will be the best player kd will have played with in his prime. Steph is a better leader as well remember when kd said I don't have to lead Steph does that. I don't view Kyrie as a Steph type of leader at all so it will be interesting to see how this all plays out cuz Steph is lethal with and without the ball but Kyrie on the other hand is more lethal with than without it.

Knicks made a good business decision. Michael Jordan made a good business decision. Guys make so much money that winning games or playoffs, or even trying to get a Ship is irrelevant. Guys are playing for the big contract only, and why not?

I remember when guys played hard for the little money, like Big3, and the fans loved it as well as the players, like the Big3. Today guys are growing up making a life time of money in one contract. KD-Kyrie doesn't have to work; this is perfect for everyone involved - especially Kyrie because he's all about self, so he can play his game; establish his core on the team and then take the pressure off of Kevin Durant to be perfect and come back as Durant of old.... Don't be surprised in the next two seasons if Kyrie Irving is the MVP of the regular season; he'll be fine and Durant will come back slowly and surely... no pressure on either one to win in Brooklyn because everybody knows Durant is hurt so any success they have above the first round of the playoffs is a plus.

Kyrie being all about self is contrary to the culture painstakingly and carefully built in Brooklyn. They were a hard working cohesive unit, fully supportive of one another and playing the game the right way. I don't the scenario of a selfish player coming along and things running smoothly as they had previously, that is unless Kyrie has been humbled by his dramatic playoff failure of a performance and simply tries to assimilate while still rising to the occasion within the team's framework.
