Please. Don't start that. Listen to star NBA players talk about how their teammates were jealous of them as rookies. Both LeBron and Kobe talked about the jealousy. Also, do you remember when Steph Curry started rising in the ranks in the NBA? So many of those NBA veterans were jealous of him. I'm not talking about former players. I'm talking about current NBA veterans. They were jealous of that guy.

@Yeenreallylikethat I wasn't talking about LSU, im talking about UConn players using championships as the barometer for greatness, when they are playing on stacked teams. @@spenser6353 if that's how it's always been, why does she think she has to say it? Plus, Taurasi made it sound like Clark had it super-easy in college, saying she played against 18 yr-olds and saying something about reality coming real soon. First of all, I don’t think all her opponents were 18-year olds. Plus, every team was focusing their defense on her because Iowa didn’t have any other 5-star recruits on their team like the top teams had and like the teams Taurasi played on in college, so Clark taking Iowa to the finals 2-years in a row and all the records she set are even more amazing. Taurasi came off as petty if you asked me.

They arent there to heap praise on Caitlin Clark. These women play overseas after the WNBA season. I dont agree that they dont work with hard. You dont belong a professional athlete without hard work. If the product hasnt improved over 27 years, that would be because the league hasnt been marketed well. That would be the responsibility of the owners and the people running the league. You cant say its because the players arent working hard. All professional athletes work hard on their craft or they wouldnt have made it to the professional level. They should have zero tolerance for such petty, immature behavior and should be hard at work right now to recruit emotionally mature players with the basketball skills that will complement Caitlin Clark’s talents. Enter Clark, who admirably chose to stay close to home and bring a mediocre basketball program to prominence. And she has done so with flying colors and has had more of an impact on their success than any in women’s college basketball history. This was more difficult than leading a stacked team to titles in my opinion. If she had chosen to go to powerhouses like South Carolina, LSU, Stanford, or Connecticut (if Geno Auriemma had not recruited Paige Bueckers first) she could have easily won 3 or 4 championships at all of these schools. (She might have 6 (lol) and really upset Cheryl Swoopes.) She is that great. The same thing if she played with the same teammates on the same stacked teams that Cheryl Miller (my previous GOAT), Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Candace Parker, Maya Moore, Chamique Holdsclaw (and several others) did in their era. That would have made her a more accomplished player team wise but it wouldn’t make her any better as a player. The unfairness of this myopic “ring counting” view by many people is obviously unfair and wrong. No women player in women's college basketball history would have dragged these mediocre Iowa teams (no disrespect meant to her fine and likable teammates) to the NCAA finals 2 years in a row. Only Miller would have even come close in my opinion. No player in history elevates her teammate's level of play to the degree that Clark does and it's not even close. No player in history has had more of an impact on the outcome of a game than Clark. No player in history has been more clutch than Clark. And no player has elevated her game in big games more often than Clark. She is the greatest scorer in women’s college basketball history and the greatest passer in women’s basketball history - college or pro. Her 3’s and especially her logo 3’s bring in a new dimension of greatness since they open up the court for her teammates and demoralize her opponents as the crowd goes crazy shifting the all important momentum to her team. And she is a great rebounder and ball handler. Plus, her teammates love playing with her. All this and you want to tell me that her legacy hinges on whether or not her team, not her, defeats an undefeated 6 point favorite stacked South Carolina (for the second year in a row) team in one game? Even if she wins and drops 50 (not happening against South Carolina defense) and 15 assists (Ok, that can happen) haters will say she only has one ring and Stewart has four. Poppycock. Statistics, advanced statistics, and the all important eye test all tell me who is better by a clear margin. If she loses no matter how great she plays, some (not necessarily haters) will say she is not the GOAT because she doesn’t have a “chip” (as the delusional Jay Williams likes to say). Well everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong it is lol.

This is the best analysis of this dynamic around Clark that I've seen yet. I've listened to enough of the quotes to come away with two conclusions: 1) To say that Clark may have some challenges and growing pains when she goes pro is not only fair, but obvious. Who wouldn't? Her team (most likely Indiana Fever) will be full of players who are more skilled and seasoned than her teammates at Iowa (as good as they are). Clark herself indicated in recent interviews that she is fully aware of this. 2) The "but" here is that, yes: if those WNBA players weren't overcome with jealousy, they would probably express the excitement of the advancement of their sport that Clark represents. Congratulate her on her accomplishments. Instead, they are focusing on all the "challenges" that Clark will face, which does come off as a bit petty. But as Monse says: the suddenness of Clark's rising star in the sport caught them off guard, jealousy is a natural emotion, and honestly, a few games into the next WNBA season, none of this will matter anyway.

Her handles are not that good. She cant finish at the basket. And she complains about everything. Raven shut her down for 3 Qs and basically held her scoreless in the biggest game of her career. In comparison Sheryl Swoops had 47 and won the chip.

Is another women's team that sweeps the season, and wins the championship year after year, really good for the game? IMO that''s why people check out. Oh Teenesse won another game by 30 points and hasn't lost in 3 years. Oh Uconn won 4 four years in a row, or Baylor or now SC. Nah, I'll pass on tuning in to pay attention to that. I'd rather have a bunch of different teams, with a bunch of different stars going back and forth year after year.

I agree. I am a staunch basketball fan. But, when a team keeps Winning and there no particular stars on the team. It becomes boring. I stop watching women basketball because UCONN was always winning. Why watch when you already know who gonna win. And I missed out on a legendary player because of a super team ideal. The player I missed out on watching play was Maya Moore. Oh my goodness, I did not know she was that good. But because they promoted a program and not a person. I thought it was a machine and lost the genius journey of and amazing player. Think goodness for the internet I could look back on Maya Moore career and get to experience in past tense the amazing player she was. I can’t believe it the I lived right through Maya Moore and because she was apart of a machine. Her career blow right by me.

The analysts in the video don’t understand basketball fully when they talk about star players. Iowa isn’t in title games based solely on Clark and the year prior to her freshman year, they made the Elite 8 as a 29 win team and conference champion. So, the women’s program at Iowa was already and getting Clark allowed them to build into a 2x national runner up. Clark is a ball dominant shooter with playmaking skills surrounded with good players that compliment her style of playing within their coaches system. There are other good players on Iowa that provided double digit scoring to go with her scoring, and it all worked. However, much like Lebron”s career in a number of big playoff series, teams built around ball dominant high usage players tend to struggle against strong defensive teams that are capable of disrupting that flow by applying pressure on the star player. Don’t be surprised to see Iowa still winning after Clark leaves. They were winning before she got there.
@bluefalcon24
@bluefalcon24 2 месяца назад
They did that 2 years before she arrived. Which was their first deep run since 1993. Caitlin is responsible for the ONLY national championship appearance, the only other Big Ten season championship in history besides 2008 and 3 of the 5 Big Ten Tournament wins in the program's history. The person who doesn't know basketball is yourself....quite obviously Iowa was not an elite program prior to her arrival and likely will not remain one after.
@parawill7074
@parawill7074 2 месяца назад
@@bluefalcon24 - Um, they made those final appearances in her Junior and Senior years, so it didn't happen overnight. Also, like I said, Iowa was already a decent program, not a lower tier school. They have talent on their team, if they didn't, they wouldn't have been successful even with Clark. Teams make deep runs, not one player. That is why it is a process to develop team strategy where the best scorer and playmaker have the ability to work within the team to score points or make assists. Clark's teammates help her be effective by helping with screens, cuts to the basket, and creating mismatches. SC and LSU were able to crack the code with pressure where they forced Clark into bad shots and turnovers. They both held her under 50% shooting and outrebounded Iowa. Clark still got her points, but they lost by double digits each time because those teams matched up with her supporting cast and took away what makes Clark effective and efficient.
@bluefalcon24
@bluefalcon24 2 месяца назад
@@parawill7074 who said it was over night? I said Iowa was not an elite program, because it wasn't. SC and LSU didn't "crack the code". They have teams full of all american talent...Iowa does not. So yes, the smart thing to do is make the less talented players beat you. Thank you for that elementary level analysis 🤦🏾‍♂️

I’m going to give a little grace to Taurasi and the others… y’all that’s a woman thing. We can be so trifling!! I know it cause I am a woman. It takes a lot of maturity to not fall into it. Coach Staley KNOWS God damn well that she needs to be diplomatic because she is leading the team into Olympics and she had thread that needle perfectly to satisfy everyone. Not crowing CC as THE goat but granting her as “one of the goats” was good enough. Also as y’all said there’s a little program elitism that these players fall into, it’s gross. As an Iowan I know what people from other states say about Iowa, you can’t believe Iowa produced a phenom like her. Well she did this herself, she worked her ass off training and shooting thousands of baskets over the last 2/3 of her life.
