I love Kibbe for the fact that it emphasizes that the clothes should fit you, not the other way around. My only grievance is that my ID is Soft Natural but, I prefer the Classic/ Romantic style. Very frustrating 😕

I think there are ways to merge them. Clothes don’t have a specific ID, it’s more about the full look. I’m going to work on a video showing how to merge styles, maybe that will help.

I know the struggle, I'm a SC but love the N/SN style. I've managed to find outfits that work, but I will just never be able to look good in long beach-wavy hair or chunky earrings and it hurts

I’d appreciate you giving your take on sneakers for all the Kibbe types. Living in a city where you walk everywhere, Kibbe’s shoe recommendations are not practical for everyday life, but I still want to finish off my outfits with what is best! I’d love to hear your explanation of yin-yang for sneakers!

Loved what you said about how style nowadays can have a lot of dichotomy. Kibbe can be a very useful tool but I think it's important to remember it's dated and we need to interpret it through a modern lens in a way that works for us and our personal tastes!

Absolutely! And there are so many ways to use your style as an asset. Sometimes I want to look my best and others times I want to look a bit edgier or cool, I think being able to see the difference and use them to our advantage is a great tool

@@Gabriellearrudadesign yeah exactly! I think body positivity has played a part as well, like it's more accepted now to dress in a way that isn't typically considered "flattering" for our shape. I love the idea of going in that direction where we can just rock whatever we want to wear. But at the same time I see style as an artform and when we learn to work with our shape and use it to create balanced looks it is just beautiful👌. Thank you for your content BTW, especially your videos showing how to adapt all the systems to different contexts, it's been really helpful!

I liked the SD look on you a lot. The flares were great. The FN look was also good. I’m a dramatic (I think) and I always wear skinny jeans in very dark colors. They are personally my favorite fit.

I love your approach to Kibbe! It’s so freeing. I think trying to follow the guidelines too closely was actually driving me crazy and felt immensely stifling. Btw I’m a soft classic and have gamine/ingenue/classic essence and watching your video about essences and seeing you try on outfits for all the essences was really illuminating. I hadn’t fully understood the concept of essences before (still boggles my mind how a FN can have romantic essence, but I totally see it and it works!) But I think I’m starting to get it.

You can still wear dark academia of you mind the way the clothes fit you. You can go for looser cuts and oversized pieces. Long, relaxed coats, soft wool blazers, loose blouses and all sorts of wide leg pants but also a lot of different skirts can work amazing for FN. Kibbe types are supposed to help you finding the correct fit for your clothes, not restrict your style

This video makes me very happy to be a soft natural! My usual winter outfit is skinny jeans (not cropped - long enough for the natural line) and a chunky knit sweater, which fits my ID well. I also just realized that sweaters (especially the textured cable-knit, colorwork, or fair isle varieties) are easiest for naturals to style.

Thank you for making this to show that any body type can pull off jeans. Could you also do a similar kind of video for t-shirts (if it's even possible for every body type to pull them off), like which kinds look best or the best ways to style them for each body type? I know that many say that certain body types look awkward or unflattering with t-shirts on, but there are different kinds of t-shirts. The regular kind, the ones that are tight around the waist, v-neck, crew neck, turtle neck, one with graphics or without, polo collars, Henley collars, long sleeve, short sleeve, Raglan sleeve, cap sleeve, etc. Or maybe there can be a way to tuck it in or balance it out with a certain kind of skirt, jacket, or pair of pants to make the outfit work for your body somehow.

There's quite a bit of difference between SD and SN. Soft Naturals have wide shoulders whereas SDs do not. SDs have long arms and legs for their height, but SNs do not. Soft Dramatics are Dramatics first, just softened (more yang than yin) and SNs are Naturals first, just softened (more yin than yang). I'm SD but my sister is SN.

This could be fun! I’ll have to dig through my closet or maybe make a thrift trip. I think that’s a big misconception for FNs. Unconstructed just means not a lot of seaming details. It’s ultimately about the overall appearance too.

I would wear the dramatic and soft dramatic outfits you showered here in a heartbeat! The dramatic classic would work too but at less of a contrast between the garments, but I just love the gamine outfits! I'm 5'9, so there is not much to choose from. Lately I´ve realised I might have kibbe width... so life just got a lot harder, but I will probably ignore it and just borrow a few elements from this here and there.

Pretty sure I'm a romantic. I also feel that flares work to accentuate my curves. however, I'm only 5'3" so I have to find ones with the right length.Also, cropped, high rise skinny jeans to hug the curves. I will definitely try out some more flowy/curved jeans like the ones you showed! :)

I really liked soft dramatic on you. I suppose I am soft classic, but honestly dark wash flared jeans in full lenth look best on me. Classic also works, but cropped shapes is a definite no-no (I have quite wide hips and they make me look imbalanced)

I think it just comes down to exploring your own body too with dresses and finding your exact need for width accommodations. That's why I like daily outfit photos or videos, to help see more objectively when an outfit might be too constraining

I wish I was FN or N- I love their casual, boxy lines! I'm not with my nyc closet right now, but I'll check the brand when I get back. It's a couple years old I remember, but I can't remember who exactly made the top. I think every ID envies different attributes of the other IDs, SD's have such beautiful curves and verticality.

very good video! Thanks Gabrielle! I'm D, however I don't like the D aesthetics, I like SD aesthetics more. I tried for some time to wear a dramatics style, but I don't like it, I don't like myself in it. ( I've started to explore essences now, so I have some hope 😄) For some time I was on a official kibbe group for my type, (there are groups on Facebook for every type) and as you know the dramatics style, we are not supposed to do errands, even the shoes are not for walking, just for staying still and posing, I guess 😄 and I remember that he himself commented once there that as dramatics we need to arrange a limo to drive us around so we could just be gorgeous 😄 I take this as a joke, however I felt like the whole system is made for rich people only, and that thing was the last thing that turned me off of kibbe system

I think his stance has changed a lot on what his system was built for originally and I'm sure in his new book he will address it. But unfortunately, Strictly Kibbe groups can be a bit weird sometimes. I think the bones of this system can be super helpful, and while I respect David Kibbe's approach and his understanding of creating an image identity, I also think his styling is not always my personal favorite and can at times be out of touch. If you like SD aesthetics, maybe you have a touch of romantic essence which might help you bridge the gap between your body and your style.

I like that flexible and everyday attitude towards Kibbe. And it's fun that one simple piece like jeans can have so much variation. I'm so not into classic (am more leaning Natural-Romantic-Ethereal for myself in that order with natural #1) but actually loved the lines of this Soft Classic outfit (I'd do it in different colors and softer): off the shoulder, and frayed details on jeans. I like the hip curves shown off by the Romantic jeans too and how along with the top shape all helps point to waist. I get excited about waist definition haha. Maybe I'll go cut some holes in my jeans now...that adds texture and I love texture...

I seriously think Gabby is a soft dramatic, the outfits always look so great, and I think make her shine. Many of her features are rounded, which I think pushes her towards softer than a flamboyant dramatic, and is reflected in her self-proclaimed romantic essence

Everyone tells me I'm a SN but I just can't buy it. I looked HORRIBLE in Mom, straight or tapered/skinny jeans. I just look "meh" in boot cut but flare and wide leg pants look magical!

It seems like there is no difference between dramatic classic and pure classic but as a pure classic, when I try dramatic classic clothes it looks so stiff on me and makes me look like a girl who trying her mom’s clothes. (I’m 21 and dramatic classic clothes makes me look older)

So the fabric weight and seaming is the different. DC is a bit sharper and more angular, slightly heavier weight fabric, and its generally recommended they keep their vertical in mind. Classics (which technically were removed from the system) really go "middle of the road"- not sharp not soft, not heavy not light. You'll notice the fabric differences in the shirt and jeans, as well as the DC jeans just being a touch more yang.

I agree with your SC rec of dark wash skinny jeans, but I wouldn't wear ones with distressing in the knee like that. I find that's not quite balanced enough for us SCs.

Wow! Again! Those gamine outfits make you look like a tall skinny model who was put in baby clothes as a statement against the industry on the run way. Natural really does make you look more relaxed and well natural, like a beautiful look like Cindy Crawford wearing jeans and a button up on the beach

I’m a SD and I wore a lot of flares growing up and I kind of hate them. If they’re not tight enough around the knees they can just erase your curves and add a bunch of visual weight to the bottom. I think I soft dramatic can’t go wrong with a skinny jean

I think it just depends on the person and how much vertical they have and where the flare breaks. There aren't any hard and fast rules. And skinny jeans work for almost every ID so they are a great choice too.
