I live in Portugal and we have some of these guys here. They’re very cool! They love standing on stones in the sun. They can probably handle lower temps than mentioned. Temperatures here can drop to high 40s, low 50s in winter so I believe they have a period of brumation from October to April. At least in the wild... Great content! Keep it up.
@@WickensWickedReptiles No problem! These guys (and other sub species) can be easily seen basking on top of walls and stones in the countryside in hot summer days. They tend to disappear in the colder months though. Very cool animals.
Hey Antonio Brandao I live in Latvia and never seen these before in Eiropa... You know off hand how far north they go? We have small multi colored lizards 7 inches long we call them Kirzakas, and glass snakes. Thought would ask since you have seen them. Im in the US for now.
in France we get them as well but its gets even colder in winter low it can get to 40sF in winter but normally low 50sF but i don't normally see them in winter in summer it reaches around 110 degrees F you see them on rocks in the summer and running around the garden and into hedges on walks

In my experience, the first couple years with a Lacerta has ups and downs in temperament. As babies, they are very skittish and flighty. But with slow, consistent, gentle interactions they begin to lose their fear of you. Luckily since they are very food motivated, hand feeding is a great way to start desensitizing and building trust. Then once they warm up to you and mellow out, they reach maturity and become aggressive through puberty. They are very angsty teenagers! Once their hormonal surge is over (my male was mean for about a year) they remember that they actually do like you and become the best lizard friend you could ever wish for! After a lot of patience and perseverance, I've learned that it pays off and I am now completely in love with Lacertas! They seriously have stolen my heart!
OMG finally someone can tell me where those beetles came from! I bought a terrarium from a gecko breeder and I was like how TF did huge beetles get in here!?
Hi I am from Germany and I keep Jewelled Lacerta my self. A Tip I can give you is you should place a flat stone under the heat lamp. They love to lay on hot stones. And maybe place some stones in his terrarium. They hide under and between the stones during the night. Ps. I really like your content keep up the great work.

To be honest if you're an avid reptile keep get a lacerta they have so much personality their colouration is beautiful and the other 2 aren't as cool coloured
Yea I live in southern b.c. and it still gets cold as hell in the winters it's already hitting 0 and below at night not every night but it has been since the beginning of October but by like 7am it's 4c so it does warm up fast as it's now 12c at 8:50 am

Awesome guide thanks for doing this! Between you and Clint's reptiles I have decided to try jeweled lacertas . I am building the enclosure which will be 6 ft long by 2 ft wide by 4 ft high. I want to do a natural setup with wood and rocks and plants. My problem is how do I get the proper uvb to him at 30 inches away? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Love your channel.

I am a portuguese herpethologist that has kept and studied Jeweled ( or Eyed ) Lacertas ( as you call it ) since 1988 and I have some remarks to make: 1. @ 0:24, Jeweled ( or Eyed ) Lizards ( Timon lepidus ) are native to Portugal, Spain and Southern France. Not Greece. 2. @ 4:10, light bulbs should be placed over the terrarium screen lid and not inside it over the substrate because lizards will accidentally burn themselves if they get to close to it ( basking on branches or similar, for example ). The other option ( which you didn't mention ) is incasing the light bulb in a stainless steel net in a distance enough from the light bulb in order to prevent lizards to burn themselves. 3. @ 4:30, the area where Jeweled Lacertas come from is not humid or with "uncertain" humidity. They inhabit fairly dry mediteranean bushy areas with lots of sun and with a hint of temperate sea air streaming, where summers are hot and dry and winters ate cool and humid ( the latter, during which they hibernate deep inside the soil ). So, in their period of activity, Jeweled Lacertas don't like moist or humid environments and if you keep them in that kind of environment, this will, actually, make them sick with respiratory diseases, poor general health and ending up killing them. For further information about the typical mediterranean climate for Jeweled Lacerta, search year round climatological type tables on some climatology websites and search for Lisbon ( Portugal ), Évora ( Portugal ), Santarém ( Portugal ), Merida ( Spain ), Seville ( Spain ) and Southern France, for example. So, spraying three times a day ( even worst if you put, ALSO, a water bowl ) is waaay to much for your Jeweled Lacerta to be naturally healhy at room temperatures. 4. @ 6:50, washing your Jeweled Lacerta's dish inside the dish water with detergent or soap is completely unadvisable since it will still bear chemicals that are detrimental to your pet's health. 5. @ 7:12, Jeweled Lacertas often dig their own burrows in the wild. The reason why "Bob" Jeweled Lacerta dig much, is probably because he has metabolic bone disease and, since this lizards often use all their arms and legs to dig, he won't do it without feeling pain or impairment. 6. @ 7:25, the best soil for a Jeweled Lacerta indoor enclosure should be a well drained one that doesn't hold too much humidity like a mixture of sand and soil and NOT only coconut fiber. 7. @ 7:50, hibernation is a must as far as Jeweled Lacertas are concerned but, due to the fact that replicate this in captivity demands a lot of reptile keeping and studying experience, this species is not recommended for beginners or people that lack experience in keeping more than one individual through the course of his/her life. In order to successfully hibernate and have your pets still alive by springtime, you must do a lot of research and trials with different kind of conditions. how do you low down the humidity for them? I live in a very humid part of the world too, and every reptile care video Ive seen so far only tells you how to get the enclosure humid enough but I need quite the opposite. Any suggestion?
Justin Puga, I am a portuguese herpetologist that have kept and studied Jeweled Lacertas since 1988 and, in my country, the lizards live in the wild. So, I know them quite well. If you use a mixture of soil and sand as a substrate and spray once, in the morning, every other day only, that is enough, providing you have a shallow water bowl inside the enclosure, already. If you do that, you won't need to spend money in fans and electricity ( unless, you keep your room in an hellish 100s degrees F.

Do you have more other than Bob? I have a great enclosure already ready for one. Built a vivarium 4ft long, 2ft deep and 2 ft tall! Then I found one breeder on morphmarket. So, I am looking for breeders...
don't get caught up in minor details like exact number of insects. Use your judgment and let them eat until they are full each feeding but don't feed too often.
You have to be careful when it comes to heating for a jeweled Lacerta too high and they can get a skin infection too low they could have a respiratory infection so they would need multiple basking spots and temperature gauges on each basking spot to properly regulate a jeweled Lacertas body temperature.

I think for the most part baby enclosure size for reptiles is kind of a common sense thing, not giant but enough room to move around. Here, a 10 gal would work
"Handling" in this case must mean "with care and not forcing the lizard to stay grabbed inside your hand when it shows to be unconfortable with that. Baby steps. Always. ". My regards.

@@WickensWickedReptiles what about chicken eggs? Boiled or raw? My is being picky with his super worms after I revamped his home with fake plants and bioactiveness.
Eggs should not be given as food more than just ocasionally due to the fact that is not a main component of their natural diet and I have known some specimens to have died from it.
@@jessicas4055, superworms and mealworms are to be avoided due to have a dangerous phosphorous / calcium unbalanced proportion and other known dietary inducing problems. Try cockroaches, grasshopers and crickets, instead.
I have two male sibling bearded dragons living together, and they get along better than my two savannah monitor females do. Don't start hating on me; it works. As soon as or if ever they start to fight, I will separate them.
Dude, no. That's horrible, they tolerate each other for now, but they should never be housed together. Separate them, or rehome them if one hasn't died already.
