@@dancollins5194 Yep, and with each show, Steve and the band get better.. It sounds great... a bunch of geriatrics getting paid $10m per gig... And there's Steve, powering the bus.
Hey Don P & SlupitaB, This is in NYC, not some little town. Granted, there may be some tourists in there & maybe that's what you're focusing on? Be proud of where you come from, otherwise it will only foster jealousy & hatred.
You cannot beat Steve Jordon, you cannot beat Pino Paladino, and John Mayer is an incredible talent and this is when I think he was at his best... with the trio.
The fewer players he has up on the stage with him, the sparser the song arrangement, the better it is for this guy. He's good enough with guitar and vocal to carry just about any kind of trio, as he does here with great support from Mr. Jordan and Mr. Paladino. Just great, raw, natural sounds in time, in the pocket, and gutsy, soulful delivery....what's wrong with that?
Haha it's funny you say that, because John has expressed, especially in recent years, that he prefers performing with a larger band, so that there's less work for him to do. That's probably one reason he didn't completely focus on the power trio thing throughout his career.
Even today I don't think people really wrap their minds at exactly how high the level was that John was orbiting in during this time period. The John Mayer Trio straight up blues album was genuinely the greatest original blues album of my lifetime (I'm 38), and then dropped the undeniable masterpiece that is Continuum just months apart. And as if that wasn't enough, he put together the greatest live show album maybe ever, certainly since the Eagle did hell freezes over, when he dropped Where the Light Is. If that one concert was the greatest hits to a 40 year career, it would genuinely be a ground breaking achievement. But in reality, that's just what he released that year, and doing in all 3 formats (acoustic, Trio, then full band) was the only way to do it justice. Even the early hits he included were only a few years old at the time. Simply incredible. Doubt it'll be topped anytime soon, by anyone in any genre.
What a heavenly beautiful expressive voice and lovely music. Ah, someone calling you from some ancient land humming mystical longing of human soul called love!!! A voice like pure Liquid Gold!!! You my friend is not a national but a global treasure!!! Peace and love to all!
Lol your head rolling off lol 😂 I dunno , I just saw the visual . Your funny, good for u, feel that groove. John Mayer’s concert was the only concert that I knew all the lyrics and was genuinely excited for every song. 👍❤️. May you have a blessed year.
This video is classic John Mayer and sooo bad ass it hurts. It will never not be good. That's a pretty amazing accomplishment. I love it. I love the Trio. I love John
Oh to have a young woman look at you with the admiring eyes of the one at 2:24 ..... good things might be in store for the subject of that admiration....
If he were a banana, I'm sure she would have attempted to eat him... if you know what I mean. In my day, they were called "groupie eyes" or plaster caster artists.....lol. Lucky dude in any event. BTW, Jordan and Pino were great percussion but Johnnie is pretty good on guitar also.
"Now see, son, how I met your father was like this. He was covering Ray Charles' song, and was just really tearing it up. Rocking things in the key of A, jazzing and swinging things up, syncopation was on point, augmented 9s, all that. And from that point, I just knew, HE was de one that would be the father of my child."
Fast forward to today and you find people like Parker McCollum convering Mayer songs (Perfectly Lonely) and calling him one of their largest infliuences . . . and so it goes. The Dread Pirate Roberts lives on in artists like Clapton and Garca and . . . . John Mayer.
Steve Jordan knocking it out of the park! Peak John Mayer from late 2005... I'd be honored if some fans of early Mayer would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of CLARITY and QUIET on my channel in tribute to the master. Real live acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and peace out.
Nope, the one that DID AND DOES JUSTICE TO THIS SONG WAS ELVIS, EVEN AT THE AGE OF 22. JUST TYPE "Elvis presley tupelo 57 i got a woman very rare" , THEN GO TO 0.53 SECONDS OF THE CLIP AND YOU{LL SEE AND HEAR WHAT THAT ENTAILS. AND HE WAS DOING that 7 second ending IN FRONT OF 22,000.....
Koletti, There are many renditions of the song and it is up to the artist to create the classic in his own hand Ray did the same thing to many songs. I agree this is not the best rendition Mayer has done but it does passion and excellent instrumentals.
@Koletti Pireaus I admire Ray Charles genius. But I like John Mayers version better. Music like other things in life is subjective to the listener. Furthermore as a black man growing up in urban norcal I felt the blues when my dog died. I felt the blues when my best friend moved away. I felt the blues when I lost my job. As a working musician I've studied the blues, and know it's origans. While it's roots are predominantly black, anybody can feel, and live the blues.
@@davidmorris8053 I agree with you on the passion part...but are u SURE this ain't one of the best renditions? It sure feels like it is, with the rhythm section having a pocket so deep you can use it for a safety deposit box, and Mayer being....well .... Mayer. Lol. He even made the soulful but awkward vocals work to his advantage! It's to beautiful to not assume it's at least up there.
@@terryarik699 I beg to differ. I don't care to much for his pop stuff, but I can live with it. His work with Brad Paisley is tastey. Not to mention his other drummer JJ Johnson is very tastey as well as I enjoy his playing.
