I think anybody can grow. But terrible dishonest argumentation is just that. This is a serious situation. To be honest, I don’t think any of you content manbabies should be unpacking it. This. The community has gotten so corrupt, so two-faced, and so unnecessarily ruthless within the past 10 years, that it would honestly benefit from a purge altogether, build it from the ground up with different people, save for the actually few good ones in this community. I can't believe I actually miss the days when the only thing people could say about the smash community is that we didn't take showers and got three stocked by a stick of deodorant.

Forget it bro, smash is irredeemable because smash fans are irredeemable. Maybe if you separated a community for people 18+ and people underage you would actually have a functional community with the adult one. Minors with half developed frontal lobes make hot takes on twitter and reddit, twitch chat and youtube and skew the court of public opinion even though their don't know shit about what they're talking about because they lack critical thinking ability. The people at the top of the pyramid who make the rules and run events bend their opinions based on the public because people naturally try to avoid backlash. Face it, 14 year olds have adults by the balls and making rules in favor of what they want, and as long as this is the case the smash community will not be changing for the foreseeable future. Look at the PM community, its not just because its small that these issues just don't exist, its because theres no 12 year olds spewing bullshit. Anonymity on the internet is a double edged sword, gives idiots value to their takes while removing value from qualified people on theirs.

@@swixx639 yeah, i look at other FGC communities and i've come to the conclusion that, despite the fact that they have their own bullshit going on; it's nowhere near as bad as smash because there's no kids/teenagers following the mob mentalities that always go on here. now i'm not going "hurr kids dumb" or anything; we were ALL dumb as kids, but unfortunately it feels like smash is letting kids get away with being dumb, thus it's transitioning more into adulthood. but still, kinda makes me wish there was a platform fighter in the same vein as guilty gear or tekken (i know RoA/Nicktoons/Brawlhalla/Fraymakers exist but still, they're all in the same vein as smash rating-wise)

Not only that, but ppl who say that it doesn't matter since there weren't any girls or that it wasn't enough to prove that he isn't a threat likely don't even realize that if he was really a threat, he could've used Discord the same way he used Skype with Katie. Like holy shit, Discord has had a predator problem for years on end at this point. Even still Technicals main point is still irrelevant. There are plenty of people who can act two-faced depending on what the situation calls for. Not everyone predates at the "work place" and the OP's example of a "workplace" is a completely different context. What's ironic is that another criticism of Technicals point can be drawn up from the Activison/Blizzard scandal despite how different the setting is because even if these children are being predated on ZeRo could blackmail them by ruining their career in Smash because these kids have to rely on ZeRo to make a name for themselves. Their testimony isn't the most reliable either. Everything hinges on believing in ZeRo. It is a matter of FAITH at the end of the day if you want to believe in ZeRo and I don't understand why the Smash community would let their kids spend the night at Michael Jackson's house.

@@jerm70 So far, we've never gotten any truly credible testimony about any further wrongdoing on ZeRo's part, not to mention the fact that he's literally a married man at this point (With a person fully capable of consenting too). I see absolutely no reason to suspect that he'd do anything further, and if he does, I'll happily condemn him for it. Also, when you say he was already called out for it, do you mean the Katie case or a separate one entirely? I'd be happy to look into it if you have a source.

@@jerm70 I never said that he should be allowed around kids as of now (I have a similar stance to Technicals in the sense that I think that due to the Katie incident, he lost his right to competitive events but not to content creating). The problem you also get is which community? Because Smash has grown so large you could be in one bubble and be completely ignorant of the other. Casual and competitive communities are quite separate for one. Twitter Smash is also divided into subsections, such as Melee and Ultimate, casual and professional. Even on RU-vid, they are quite divided. with many viewers watching their favorite Smash content creator(s) without really paying attention to the drama happening outside.

But Technicals did coverup for Zero. He has been covering up for Zero. Need I get the statements of what he has done? He has downplayed ZeRo's child grooming by saying it was a slip up, He poisoned the well on evidence by presenting his backstory in the middle of presenting Katie's case against ZeRo. He has used legal defense arguments such as dismissing a letter as a letter made in duress because it was a suicide note. He presented a version of the suicide note that was cut up for the sake of presentation. He has actively barged into people's livestreams to goad people while they are reacting to his video because he can't let his video stand on it's own account. Regardless of the motivations he may have for it. He is running an active coverup for ZeRo and it's all undeniable. The best case scenario is to say that Technicals is playing defense for ZeRo to try to paint some of the bad elements in the Smash Community in a bad light.

Explain why he should dig a 6 months old drama in a video about a predator allegation?" Hell, even after Tech caught him in 4K lying 4 times in a row between John being interviewed and his video, he still refuses to apologize for his actions, meaning he knows he's lied and is doubling down just like how he did when he bullied Pieman to suicidal tendencies. John Swan is full of shit and has proven he is simply incapable of having a platform without causing serious damage with his slander and manipulation tactics.

That is true. Evidence isn't definitive, it is proof of making a fact more or less probable. In ZeRo's case making his case a bit more difficult since he has to fight the fact he confessed every time the situation is brought up. If it goes to trial though, I do wonder if his confession will be admissible as evidence. Courts allow statements if a party made a statement that goes against their own interest (i.e. an admission/confession) and if it is added it might not be looking good for ZeRo even with his suicide justification because remember you have to convince 12 regular people (or what I like to say 12 people too stupid to avoid jury duty).

@@coolyeh1017 The "Suicide Note" is very damning for ZeRo and ultimately whether or not you can accept it is a matter of putting a capstone to it. Even without the Suicide Note, ZeRo is basically screwed. There is no argument on ZeRo not being a child groomer other than "He has changed. His team of boys say they don't get predated on". He groomed Katie and that's just something everyone agrees with but nobody brings up. Technicals and the Commentary Community basically went into a war over whether or not ZeRo asked for a photo that they forgot that ZeRo is a scumbag child groomer and that should be the reason why he shouldn't be allowed in the Smash Community at all. It may not please Technicals but if someone interacts with minors in a sexual manner in the span of 2 days and they are a grown adult. They shouldn't be in the Smash Community. You get two days to account for being too drunk. It wouldn't please Technicals because he would of broken this rule by running Discord groups where people posted NSFW and nudes with minors around but you know what? #BanNairo, #BanZero, #BanTechnical, #BanAllNoncery.

Plenty of people like myself didn’t know the severity of what was said. So by skipping those messages and going right into the personal story, I ALMOST got swindled into sympathizing with ZeRo, which should not be happening in a legal defense video of Zero.

How much did you actually look into this, because I read them when those came out. In Technical's video, he says, I'm not trying to make you sympathize ZeRo. For people who aren't in the smash community, they can see ZeRo's past and struggles. It's not, "finding an excuse with sympathy," it's understanding why someone did what they did. If you watched the T3 podcast with Tech, he goes into talking about how he wanted to go into, "why someone would do this?" You're either strawmanning or missed the point.

I remember during the Summer of 2020 there was an actual Ph.D. in social work with abused children who was commentating on the situation. Needless to say outside the initial help, many think she made the Twitter mob even more inflamed. There were some lawyers and law students commentating on the legal aspects and how one person or the other could theoretically get into trouble and other things like voir dire, admissibility of evidence, conflicts of law, etc and the consensus was at the time was to wait for more evidence but outside of a few cases there will be no real legal action since many of these cases devolve into "he says, she says."

Ironically enough the only real smart one among all this (outside of the professionals in the scene) is probably the most heinous of them all (because it is more clear that something DID happen, the age gap was way more outrageous and the authorities were contacted by the victim's family), Cinnpie. She didn't say anything in response to the accusations, resisted the urge to Tweet, disappeared from the face of the Internet, got a lawyer to make a statement saying that "I didn't do it", and didn't do anything else even though people didn't believe her. She is the ideal criminal defense attorney's client. And why people come back (and I guess including me), is because drama preys against our neurochemistry. Intense emotions like anger and hate can bring out relaxation and intense highs and people want to constantly chase it, which is partly why outrage sells rather than good positive news. I highly encourage people to read/watch/listen to the original accusations, the original statements, the official counterarguments (in which there were A LOT OF), the timeline, and so forth before coming to a conclusion.

Well, it was a lot more complicated than "ZeRo screwed up," ZeRo screwed up hard. The entire sage in the Smash scene in the summer of 2020 was wild, starting with an actual criminal act of Puppeh, a 14-year old boy who confessed that he was sexually assaulted by a female commentator and competitor of Ultimate, Cinnpie who was 25-years of age at the time. Then the floodgates opened. Some of the things were relatively minor such as male gamers being creepy, socially awkward, or using certain words liberally when they were in their teenage years, some accusations were false (and hurt those affected by those false rumors), and some were very serious. Ranging from stealing tournament money to domestic violence to grooming a minor. ZeRo's story really came in when he foolishly made a comment on Twitter that he is confused why people ar like this and that he wasn't like those being accused. His former roommate, Jisu, a former Smash bros artist (from what I see she is a freelance artist now?) traumatized from being sexually assaulted in the house she and ZeRo were staying, refuted that statement and stated that a young adult ZeRo sexually harassed her (showing Craiglist listings of prostitution or showing her hentai, these accusations are now debated with people thinking that she made it up or she misinterpreted the situations because of her past trauma). The initial accusations were not very serious until an anonymous person, named "Katie" claimed that she was solicited by ZeRo who was 19 at the time to post pornographic images of herself, complete with screenshots. The community waited with bated breath for ZeRo's response. What made it worse for ZeRo, was that controversial, hot-headed, impulsive, but still considered a pillar stone of the Melee Smash Community (at least for hype sets), Leffen came out in support of Jisu, as she was his friend overseas. Essentially, he elevated what would be a bad situation for ZeRo even worse as Leffen is well known in multiple communities (for good and for bad, mostly bad). ZeRo posted three documents without correspondence proclaiming his innocence, with each document digging his won grave more and more (and why lawyers hate it when their clients post a statement or evidence) with the final coffin being a huge document posted by Jisu but supposedly compiled by different sources and coordinated by Leffen that ZeRo confessed to grooming a minor when was of the age of majority and ran. It was revealed months later, that ZeRo attempted suicide, many in the community, yes even Jisu and LEffen (though much MORE muted than they should have been), believed that ZeRo should not die but should be banned from the smash community and be de-platformed such that he has no contact with children and that was that. We have not heard of him for months until an interview by another commentator, EE, who was asking about updates. Needless to say, the interview was controversial since many condemned ZeRo at that point and that the interview gave him a platform. Months later, ZeRo posted a video on his main RU-vid channel telling viewers where has been for the past year or so and updates. At the same time, a video by Technical was dropped stating that Leffen and Jisu definitely lied. Needless to say, both videos were controversial. ZeRo in his video retracted his confession about the Katie claim stating it was intended as a suicide letter (a possibility, but that previous confession is going to haunt him), and that he retained a lawyer to file suit for a civil action of defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress against Jisu and others (who the others are, they were not named in the lawsuit and I think the lawyers have 30 days to amend the complaint). Then we had several RU-vid commentators comment on the situation, the John Swan video, and this video here. Most of the Smash community, commentators, TOs, competitors, Reddit, many Smash discords, etc. found that it was smarter (having learned from Leffen to NOT do what he did) and let the courts handle the situation.

John only defended Onision under legal circumstances. You can clearly see it spelled out in his segment on The Right Opinion. Tech would’ve done the same considering his whole angle in the ZeRo situation is legal.

I'm gonna blame Leffen as a primary influence here. Not the whole reason, but his actions have a ripple effect that helped normalize that flippy floppy narrative shit. Then again I'm quick to want Leffen to get brought to justice in general so I think its my bias speaking.

Also most of the people in the smash community the competitive side as well as the twitter and reddit side didn't learn how to think for themselves and look up the situation some are lazy expecting tldrs or someone to make a video to spoon feed them the information they just take the word from their favorite players or influencer as word. Or in short they are freaking idiots and sheep

Right now, John is trying so hard to make up for the oopsie whoopsie he did a few months ago, that he's willing to be used as an expendable weapon by the top commentary channels, because they know that if he does it right, they all benefit as a result, but if he messes up or he's proven wrong without a shadow of a doubt, the people on the top don't lose much of anything because in the eyes of the public, John was already ostracized from the CC, so his jump back into the fray being a massive failure won't reflect negatively on anyone else inside of the community.
