What did you think to Mr Major?
@JamJam0189
@JamJam0189 3 месяца назад
As Ian Hislop said in the USA "Politics is either right-wing or very right-wing", some think socialism is communism at Bernie Sanders has said, USA have the highest poverty levels in the rich world and UK should be following them. . Atlee certainly did far more for the working class of the UK than any other PM then or since. Thatcher went away with Keynesian economics to the free markets and less regulation meaning banks gambled failed and crashed in the 1980's and in 2008! Much of the NHS is privatised from cleaning privatised under Thatcher and NHS CHCP's and Virgin healthcare running NHS services. Yes you can argue many European nations had issues of higher inflation in the 1970's, the post-war boom was over but the remedy for this in Germany for example worked at was not as extreme as Thatcher. How you can defend the massive job loses and huge increases in poverty is beyond me, many of her colleagues including Harold MacMillan's were critical of her lack of economic understanding, the rich got richer the poor got poorer. We were left with little manfacturing and a service economy relying more and more on cheap Chinese goods, and now they've hacked our data. Not to mention deregulation of banking causing the crash or the lack of regulation on water companies dumping sewage all started under Thatcher.
@nudisco300
@nudisco300 5 лет назад
What's really nice about Thatcher is she expresses total understanding about a subject and her own view and she's not afraid to let reporters know her view. Contrast that with Cameron or May and they just don't seem to have any deep understanding or willingness to explain their thought process they just mimic ridiculously bland soundbites over and over again.

@@tadeasgubala7576 How was she a 'horrible' lady. That's quite a childish view. She was actually a caring woman who had to make extremely difficult choices in a Britain that at the time was ungovernable, old fashioned and virtually bankrupt. You're not going to please everyone and make everyone happy all the time. The people that despised her most where those working in industries that had declined but still wanted taxpayer support. Today we don't even use an ounce of coal to power our national grid. She didn't 'destroy manufacturing' virtually every other western world country including America also suffered manufacturing losses due to the rise of efficient, inexpensive, quality manufacturing in the Far East.

@nudisco300
@nudisco300 4 года назад
@@tadeasgubala7576 Yes she is. It doesn't mean your a bad person if you're hated. They symbolise Thatcher with job losses from the coal mines but they weren't intelligent enough to realise that coal consumption was falling and that the rest of the country shouldn't have to pay to keep them in a job. Don't get me wrong I feel sorry for them it must have been tough out of work, but prior to this it was all strikes this, strikes that and it damaged the industry, They basically killed their own industry much like the car workers by being permanently on strike and not wanting to be part of making their mines profitable and successful.

I'm a liberal & I still acknowledge everything she did for our country, and this is someone from Merseyside speaking here. She governed during a time when the UK was incredibly bankrupt, had outdated views (most of the government were old white aristocrats other than her), and was involved in the cold-war! Come on, even US left-wingers have to give her credit for rising to prominence in a time when it was difficult for a woman to do so, especially in politics.

Its no different to the coal mines being shut, Wilsons Labour government shut 2/3 of all British mines and there wasn't a wisper out of the union's for that betrayal but Thatcher shut the last 1/3 of the mines because the Labour union's pushed the price of British coal up so much, it was cheaper to import all our coal from Poland and again Labour said nothing of this issue of coal pricing but again Thatcher got all the blame for British mining being shut.
