Damn, the part where he talks about the left foot opened my eyes, it also shows the deepest flaw with social justice, it is the equivalent of catering to the person that can only move it's left foot, makes them basically useless
@snatcherofpeachs
@snatcherofpeachs 3 года назад
i think it depends because social justice is incredibly broad. what you have in mind might be totally different from what someone else has in mind. infringement on individual rights should obviously not be tolerated in a free society. correcting that which infringes on individual rights is by definition social justice. there’s nothing wrong with social justice provided it’s actually just. simply saying we should not seek social justice because it’s only going to be to the detriment of the people we are trying to help is too convenient a cover for people who actively want to harm marginalized groups of society. we cannot for centuries screw certain groups of people over and then now insist nothing be done to undue the damage that was done because they need to pull themselves up by the bootstraps. but there’s definitely a wrong and a right way to help people. if the race example is too sensitive you could just look at the example of drug addiction. throwing addicts in jail doesn’t appear to be of much help. getting people in treatment programs and employment helps tremendously. there are certain resources that we can as a society make available to them and incentivize them to utilize but they still have to want it for themselves.

The way he describes betrayal in this hit a nerve with me, I have my own hypothesis on the subject , as one gets betrayed they pick up a metaphorical shield, and the size of that shield is based on the fortitude left in the individual, if someone is to damaged by that betrayal and picks up to big of a shield they intern protect them selves from any betrayal to come, the consequence of that are terrible however as a shield does in fact block everything, good and bad, and you end up static, if you pick up a small shield good things can still get in but there is a chance of the bad getting through aswell, so my advice is have the appropriate size shield in life, love still needs to get in so inorder to move forward you must be a little vonarable, but not nieve, or you will get eaten

Two things : Virgil was a Latin poet, lived and worked during the troubled time of passage from a Republic to an Empire(really simplifying it for brevity). Entered the circle of poets supported by Maecenas, so basically by Augustus. Dante Alighieri chose him for a myriad of reasons, one of them the fact he was still considered a pious man in Christian medieval times(again omitting the other reasons for brevity). Second thing: we don't really know the name of the main character of the Comedy. He never refers to himself as Durante or Dante, he's just a poet from Florence. He encounters many people Dante Alighieri knew or were related to him, but they never call him by name. It's intentional. It never was about his personal voyage, it was about every man

Something i want to say about Pinocchio... I am aware of all the "dark" connotations attributed to the Disney version! Which i have never watched! But i grew up with the Italian TV adaptation (with Gina Lollobrigida as the Fairy) and the original Carlo Collodi book... and the story never strays that way and it's really a story about a "bad kid that wants to be good for sake of loved ones" and how he accomplishes it in the end! Of course, Disney twisted it to suit his "Magic Kingdom" aesthetic and predictive programming message.

@victorygarden556

@@panamajack5972predictive programming was a big thing for Disney, he had political opinions he wanted others to have so he programmed young people to form thoughts a certain way. Made all little girls want to be Disney princesses, etc, and with that comes a need to adhere to the ideology to a degree. At that age it sinks in deep and cannot be undone unless someone really realizes what has happened in the formation of their values and beliefs

Well, it's not something you want to be, (someone akin to a snake or a rat that betrays other people, that is) but if you put your trust in another person and invest yourself emotionally in that person, and that person betrays you, and you struggle through the pain and shock of it, and you manage to come out whole after your struggles, and by "whole" I mean not terribly bitter and jaded, just wise enough to understand the truth about yourself and human nature, then you'll have been bequeathed the hugest trophy that life can put on your mantel!! i know a coachman, and he has schemed against me for years. he is much smarter than me, but God has kept my foot out of his traps. He has shown his true malevolent face at times and schemed against me many times but God has kept my foot from evil, and kept me out from under his thumb. I traded in my cricket conscience for a better conscience at baptism into the death of Jesus Christ, and that is what has preserved me where pinocchio's conscience failed him.
