I like how the Demolition songs easily hold up to all the other Priest classics played here, people must have been in a pissy mood the year this album was released. It's way better than a lot of Priest fans think.
Especially at this soundcheck where they're not rushing it, as they often did in concert, (because metal show). Desert Plains cannot be rushed. It's a stately, elegant song that when played you have to be patiently musical with it.
I got see priest in the 80's and was blown away by Rob's voice. Rippers voice is on that level. Super strong and powerful. Unlike most of today's singers who can't really sign or need auto tune.
@@Dakhaos-ou812 I'm not lucky bro -- skills alone won't make you a millionaire -- you gotta have luck -- and I simply do not. But it's cool. I enjoy listening to musicians who did have the luck to make it.
@@paulhaynes561 I know the drill, the story is the same only names can be changed. Nowadays is not what you know, but who you know. But don't erase the fun you had and maybe still have in playing an instrument.Raising a glass on good memories..Slainte Mhath.
Awesome dude! Saw them on their demolition tour 2001 and went to their signingsession and had a little chat with Ian Hill. Very humble and polite bloke👍. I was 17 at the time so that made and still makes a huge impact on me as an 37 year old headbanger🤘
Saw Ripper in Priest cover band called British Steel in Massillon Ohio around '94. I was amazed. I tried to explain to my non-metal friend that what we were hearing and seeing was levels better than it should have been. What impressed as much as the singing was Ripper's stage presence. Total confidence. Kind of like, "I'm actually cooler than Halford." That sounds bad, but it was ballsy cool as f**k.
Incredible vocal performance. The Ripper years meant a lot to me, I was young and I gained my first experience of Judas Priest concerts then. (Even though my No. 1 fav singer ever is Rob :).)
I'm clearly just a Tipton fanboy but he looks so cool chugging away at the Machine Man riff, focused and relaxed. The whole band's creating this giant wall of sound and he's just standing there all stoic-like, it really helps to show off his economy-of-motion style. GT is and always has been one of the greatest metal guitarists period.
du übertreibst zwar. habe schon jahre diese musik nicht mehr gehört, aber ich habe sin after sin mit 8 jahren gekauft, lol.ich finde diesen sänger super. ja er passt.
@@nicolasestrada7989 Stained Class is a masterpiece as well. I own every Judas Priest album, so I obviously believe them to be a great band. The very first JP album I owned was Screaming for Vengeance, and have been a fan ever since.
I gave this comment a LIKE b/c I think Ripper is an EXTREMELY underrated vocalist....I love him!!!! But, Painkiller is heavier than Jugulator... But I fucking LOVE Jugulator.....
@@shawnc666 They're both pretty damn close! Someone should do a track by track ranking comparison between the two albums. Granted, Painkiller has better lyrics, but Jugulator just sounds so damn ANGRY!
@@mark_beastpriest5539 Ripper was outstanding. Whoever says else is just lying. But the studio efforts during his shift were honestly trash. Can't listen to Jugg or Demo for more than 5 minutes straight...
This F@#$%ing ROCKS. Rob and Ripper are both incredible singers in their own right and I feel that Ripper does justice to the older Priest songs. Loved Sentinel, favorite Priest song.
i stumbled across this a few years ago and once i heard this version of desert plains i became a fan of Rippers even more. The whole sound check is amazing.
OMG! Never seen this before! This automatically became one of my favorites ever. Wish there were more like this one. It has this kind of "private" and/or "personal" feeling to it, yet extremely professional at the same time. Thanks for sharing!
Ha most vocalists will hold back for the soundcheck but Ripper freaking just goes for it. Love this guy and I appreciate him keeping my favorite metal band alive for a few years while the Metal God did some other great stuff.
That's my band right there since Hell Bent For Leather came out when I was in 8th grade! I've always loved how Glen and KK switch from lead to rhythm. Sad they are a different band now. I'll never stop rockin
The rehearsal it self is a fantastic show! Couldn't get any closer than this! Like if you walk on stage with them! The sound is awesome too! Great upload, cheers from Morocco
Travis is my favorite double kick drummer of all time .... cool video and I am a BIG Priest Fan so this goes in the collection for sure ... Thanks for upload Cheers from Canada
Are you kidding me?? Tim "Ripper" Owens had absolutely no stage presence what so ever. He acted like a little kid with a man's voice on stage. The singer's job besides singing is to have a commanding stage presence and his presence is anything but comical. Hartford had stage presence like no one else could. That's why he is "The Metal God". 🤘🎸🎶
This is so badass when Ripper Owens was hired I was living Akron and my band and the whole city scene got an awesome jolt I often debate them as the best metal ever thanx so much !!!!!
Great video! Ripper is such a great vocalist and singer! Met him at a gig in Louisville, KY before he got in Priest and he was such a cool dude. No attitude though he'd just sang the roof off of that club.
This is my first time hearing Machine Man. Since I gave up on Priest after Painkiller. Holy crap this is actually a great song. Good to see Travis being pushed to his capabilities.
Just imagine what might have been...had the respective parties just shelved their egos for a while...and let Halford tour as a co-headliner with Priest...you'd have gotten Fight and Halford and Priest songs and then he'd join Ripper for at least a few jams...the worlds would've collided. In a good way! :)
you say egos... like there was more than 1 at play there....there was only 1 that mattered... and he came back. ripper got shafted. the fact his era isnt available anywhere basically excpet the £350 deluxe boxset with every album speaks wonders....
When did you see JP?I'm good with RobHalford in his Prime early 80's , cause they never left Australia until 81 and my personal opinion , No ONE could touch Halfords voice until Axl Rose , besides Pavarotti no one can sing and sound real in 3 different octaves , this guy is good but he ain't.no Rob Fuking Halford , Rob Halford started as an opera singer.
@@rogerjrtownsend3995 Second proper concert of my life was Priest in Seattle in 82 for Screaming tour. Then again in 84 and 86 at Tacoma Dome, then 88 in Seattle again, then in 2005 at White River in Auburn WA.
Not bad for the ripper he holds up highs pretty dam good enough Judas fan since the early 80s " you've got another thing coming" Saludos desde Ensenada México 🍀🌹🎶🍻🤘😉
Only 2 times I seen priest was jugulator and demolition tours !! Ripper voice sounds good here , if you haven’t heard him live then you’re missing out !! Man just sends chills down your spine !! Gonna see ripper next weekend in his hometown !! I’m not far in Columbus Ohio !! See you next Sunday Ripper !! I will say this they brought it down and dirty ,, nasty and raw with jugulator !!
This line up with Tim and Scott is quite possibly the most musically focused the mighty Priest was ever. Each member performing absolutely on their best. 🤘🏼
The guy who got charged with pedophelia (Dave Holland from Glenn Hughes "Trapeze") was way better - check out all the videos on here; he looks uncomfortable on his awkwardly high drumming stool as f..k, but his snare sound and general timing were awesome...!
I miss Dave Holland. He was the perfect drummer for Priest, and was part of that magic in the 80's. Les was the most gifted, Scott the fastest, but Dave knew how to make it sound right. Scott doesn't play Desert Plains correctly and the song suffers live because of it. im nit picking, i LOVE Priest. Fan since 1982.
Compared to Judas Priest with Rob Halford live in Memphis, 1982? The first time I heard Desert Plains with the much higher tempo. You couldn't pick a worse song to post in comparison. Rob Halford OWNS this song. And he has a unique energy & flair that was sorely missed. That's it. Thanks.
@@benedictdonald4338 He must be thanked for keeping JP alive (formally) when Rob was busy away. The thing is that Rob sings mostly with his heart not only with vocal cords and lungs as Ripper does. And what about "Worth fighting for"?No way.
As a 52 y o Priest-fan,I love to see this..so unusual fun to see them,no headbanging, just concentrating on playing, and Glenn with a "stone-face",only KK is taking a few steps/moving a bit..Ripper smiling at us/the Camera. So TOTALLY different, from when they play live on a Tour(ofcourse). So sad that Glenn got Parkinson..bp,love to see this ! Hugs from priest-fan,Stockholm,Sweden.
Sempre achei o Ripper Owens um tremendo substituto do Halford! O álbum Jugulator é um tremendo álbum de heavy metal! Esse Soundcheck é matador! A performance da banda é perfeita!
I'm a Rob Halford Metal God fanatic since I first heard Exciter from their 1978 album Stained Class. Truly one of the best singers ever, and one of the greatest Heavy Metal vocalists of all time. So, when Rob left Judas Priest to form Fight, I loved Fight too. And when Tim Owens was brought on board to replace Rob in Judas Priest? I honestly didn't want to like him. Nothing against him personally. He just wasn't Rob. I had a really hard time not just calling him "Not Rob." That said? I still bought Jugulator and Demolition, and the live album they recorded between those studio albums. Tim's not Rob, but he sure as hell sang his ass off for Priest while he was with them. As this soundcheck proves? Timmy has some absolutely amazing pipes. I don't believe any other lead vocalist could have taken over Rob's lead vocals the way Tim "Ripper" Owens did. It looks to me like Priest enjoyed having Tim in the band, too. Younger vocalist, and with powerful pipes like that, how could they not? Rob Halford was irreplaceable. And yet? Ripper did a damn good job filling those impossible to fill shoes. Besides that? We fans got 3 bands out of the deal while Rob was doing his solo thing. Fight, Halford, and Judas Priest. (I don't really count 2wo, because I didn't like whatever kind of music they were trying to play. Just seemed way too far out in left field for my tastes.) Can't hate that.
I don't think the problem with Ripper in Priest was Ripper himself, but the quality of the material the band was writing during this time. I believe if Ripper was still in the band today, KK would still be in the band also.
Tim is great , just on "turbo lover" here I started missing Rob cause he did not put as much emotion in the vocals. However on Sentinel he makes up for it . He is just better at heavier songs. Looking forward to KK's Priest !
I for one thing felt Ripper joining the Priest was a positive. I think the record company had a lot to do with Halford’s return. As Helloween proved, nothing wrong with two vocalists on stage! Ripper’s tunes do justice to his heavier voice it has to be said. That said some of Halford’s tunes should remain sung by Halford. Ripper had it hard.
one of the albums that you treasure years later....only autograph i dont have is KK. Got firepower signed by all members and got three tremors signed with Ripper.
Badass. Thought he was going to cop out on the final extra high note on Desert Plains, thinking a few hardcores might notice but the mass of midcores won't. 3:53
