Kaiju no Kami Reviews - Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (2011) Series 

The fact that more actors and actress even those who retired already like Ryoma from Gingaman wanted to be included in Gokaiger despite originally the plan was only to include red rangers from previous recent sentai to give some hope for children after disaster is really heartwarming. The theme and timing just really make it standout for anniversary. The fact that they are Aliens that didn't have any interest in Earth in the first place also kinda make them standout since they didn't really have to obligation to even try to protect it. It's notlike they are angel like Goseiger which make their VS movie work so well since Gokaiger mostly on earth on selfish reason while Goseiger actually want to protect earth itself. Speaking of movie it also did well giving nostalgia for Metal Hero in Gavan crossover movie. Ghost ship also give nice nostalgia with the Grunts battle and some of the spirits of fallen monster. As anniversary series, Gokaiger probably stand on the top of Tokusatsu at least for me

So i have just woken up and heard the news of Gokai Silver's actor/Junya Ikeda has been arrested for apparently scamming people. Anyways for Gokaiger, A very fantastic show with a memorable and exceptional cast of heroes (even Gai, yes) and while the Villains are just decent they are still fun characters. The awesome gimmick of the Gokai Change is also a welcome, Finally some truly outstanding tribute episodes. 5/5 (sadly, i have to say this, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN YOU MR. IKEDA!)

I really can't see how the Gokai Change "hurt" the team identity, the Gokaigers are one of the most memorable team super sentai ever had, and they are all likeable this season managed to be a great Sentai season, and a great Anniversary season, and by far my favorite Super Sentai of all time.

Now this makes me hyped for the movie.

This was the Sentai series that got me started watching Super Sentai, and by far the best Super Sentai series ever.

I tend to agree with you here. Gokaiger holds up well even in 2021. There’s just so much love and dedication that went into these tributes, along with all the guest appearances. Toei set the standard for an anniversary season, and this one will resonate with fans for a long long time… Nice work!

Fun fact the the fight choreography for the dekaranger tribute episode was directed by the legendary kolchi Sakamoto who directed fight scenes for power rangers from 1996 to 2009. I should have known it was him that episode had his work written all over it

Loved Gokaiger, such a heartwarming and emotional journey watching the characters. I started with Zyuohger, then did Gokaiger and loved them both so much. Doing Go-Busters atm. Can't wait to watch Gorenger or Liveman afterwards!

I have to say it was a nice highlight seeing all of the old school Super sentai suits fighting enemies in HD quality

I've been looking forward to this. Gokaiger is a very fun series from start to finish both as an anniversary season and as a stand-alone. I'm so glad I've finally watched this series in its entirety this year. I'm also looking forward to its ten year anniversary movie that's coming up later this year.

Thanks so much for this review. For me, one of the greatest sentai I have seen. Great review as usual, happy to see actors like Red one(bioman), Bif One,Blue mask, Green flash and so one... The movie with the other sentais (battle of the 199 heroes), very great for my eyes. Having all the powers with the keys is a challenge for those pirates and Gokai Silver make me laugh with don doiger! I watched this show with french subtitles

Did you know that the Gokai Christmas key not only has the key colors of Christmas, but it also resembles the flag of Portugal? This was a reference to the fact that Christmas was first introduced to the Japanese people through Portuguese sailors during the age of exploration.

This is one of my favorite series. Seeing them able to use so many Sentai past forms is awesome! :D

Fun fact that monster was played by the same actor who played Bias and was in fact a tribute to him. Now imagine if they had him be Bias himself.

This was the first Sentai I’ve watched when airing back in 2011, really liked it and still do. The action, the heroes(Marvelous and Luke are my favorites), the villains(I got a soft spot for the Zangyack even if they aren’t the greatest) and of course Basco.

I started Sentai with Zyuohger, but phased on it halfway through and watched Gokaiger because of the crossover episodes and I wanted to know their story before seeing them return. It was the first series I finish all the way through and I loved it. The cast were all lovable, with Gai being my favorite, and while the Zangiack were weak as villains, Basco was incredible and probably my favorite villain to date.

At least Gokaiger transforms into every team before them. Something I'm still mad that Supermegaforce didn't do especially when it came to Lightspeed Rescue where we could have had Orion be the Titanium ranger

I've been wanting to watch Gokaiger for quite a while, but due to its nature as an anniversary series I was hesitant to start without the proper knowledge of the past and I didn't want that to ruin the experience for me.

Talk about saving the Best for last. This definitely was an Anniversary season like no other.

Watching the series right now and just finished the Jetman episode with Yuuki Gai. The smile on my face seeing him back was so big, definitely one of my favorite episodes of she series so far. This series has been great seeing some of the older cast, and so many of them have aged really well.

Oh man this show was great. I remember me and my brother watching this for the first time when we knew nothing about Super Sentai and freaking out when we saw all the rangers team up.

The Gokaiger team was definitely one of the most wholesome and charming ones out there. Like, this is easily one of the Sentai teams I would most wanna be friends with both in real life and in their respective series (even if most of them are older than me by at least ten years).

This was actually my introduction to super Sentai A friend of mine recommended this one to me Saying it breaks down majority of the history of super sentai so start with this one and I love it

gokai silver is my spirit animal sometimes, granted im not AS big a fan as he is, but i can at least point out the right suits, and i would fangasm at seeing an old school hero, plus him growing up admiring superheroes is part of my personas backstory

There were points during this season where it definitely felt like a live action anime in a good way 🔥🔥

This is now my 3rd Sentai series (my 1st and 2nd being Dairanger and Kakuranger), and it currently the best I've seen so far 🤩

I would have to say my favorite tribute episode of gokaiger was the ohhranger tribute episode I geeked out crazy when when luka changed into ohh yellow and did the kousou splash illusion kick 😂

The reasons as to why the Greatest Treasure in the Universe looks like the Triforce is because one of the people working on Gokiger was a desinger for Zelda and so this may have been a nod the series.

With me though, being a fan of certain Super Sentai series, this team’s lack of identity was a problem for me. There’s only one lingering question I have: How would you compare Gokaiger to what you’ve watched of Zenkaiger so far?

You get to my favorite season this show really took what I love and expanded on it in a way I never thought it could. I also do you love how they tether on the edge of being anti heroes and weren’t accepted by everybody due to their pirate nature they had to earn team’s respect. Marvelous and Joe would definitely be me if I were put into a sentai team. The love for this show made it hard for me to see it be bastardized in America but I won’t go on about megaforce being bad that’s beating a dead horse at this point. I wish they did more with warz Gill I found myself being more interested in the other main villains and basco than him.

I LOVE Gokaiger!!! It's my favorite season of super sentai next to shinkenger!! The characters are amazing, Basco is freaking awesome, and it respects the legacy of this amazing series! I love Gokaiger, it's so much fun, and a series I will gladly rewatch this show anytime!

Gokaiger was a season I definitely enjoyed. It actually showed me a lot about the Super Sentai teams of the past during a time when I was still a Power Rangers fan, and I was just learning that it was adapted from a Japanese show. I really liked the opening to your review, showing your reviews from Goranger/Gorenger to Goseiger in order. What's sad regarding the Power Rangers adaptation is much of the cast and crew wanted to do more with Megaforce, but Jonathan Tzachor was all "more action, less character and story." The fact that they tried to merge Goseiger as well in one season and have it be one team didn't help matters either. Adapting Gokaiger was THE golden opportunity for Power Rangers. They could have brought in the pre-Zyuranger teams and given them a story, like saying that they were forgotten Ranger teams from Earth's past before Zordon's first team of Power Rangers. Some of them, like Flashman, could also have been from space as well, like the Alien Rangers, the Blue Centurion, the Phantom Ranger, Andros, the Lost Galaxy Rangers (They actually originally wanted to use the Dairanger suits in Lost Galaxy as the original Quasar Saber wielders), and Trey of Triforia. The IDW comics actually adapted the Fiveman suits as a team from space, and even gave them an exclusive sixth ranger. Just so much could have been done, but because of executive demands, and a stubborn, uninterested crew, we got nothing of that. And learning about all of this, it disappoints me, and a lot of other people who were fans of Power Rangers, Super Sentai, or both. Even more sad, Basco's actor actually wanted to be in Super Megaforce, but they turned him down. If he did appear in the show, then it definitely could have made Super MegaFail more entertaining. Then again...considering how much they screwed up with that season, they likely would have screwed up Basco as well. Out of curiosity, is yellow a favorite color of yours, or do the yellow rangers mostly appeal to you more when it comes to character and portrayal? Because I noticed most of your favorite rangers from Sentai teams are the yellows. KiRanger, Vul Panther, the second Yellow Four, Yellow Flash, Five Yellow, Yellow Owl, KirinRanger, Mega Yellow, Time Yellow, Deka Yellow, and now, Gokai Yellow. That may be the most times I've ever typed the word "yellow" in one sentence.

GokaiPink is my favorite cuz the actress is so damn pretty... You.believe her as a princess and she carries that regal nobility in the way she talks and her smile.and i just love her.

Worth a wait!

After re-watching the Go-Onger focus episode, it make me wish Toei made a Cowboy/Western theme Sentai show. Aside from that, imo Gokaiger is the ultimate anniversary season of Super Sentai. Let's hope Zenkaiger can live up to the expectation

Oh and for Zyuohger’s movie during he ending dance Kruger, Torin, Sha-fu, and Ticket make a cameo. But the first here are hard to spot due to them being in the huge crowd. See if you can add that along with my Sixth Ranger theory in there.

In my opinion this is the best Sentai of all time

I Loved Gokaiger! Joe Gibken was my favorite among the team and among Sentai Blues! I saw him as the Perfect Blue with how skilled he was, how in spite of being loyal to his captain that he'll still tell him like it is at times and was never sycophantic. As well as his sad past with Sid/Barizorg. Also, he could bake which I think would be good for his resume! I have some episode ideas that I honestly wish could have been real but they'd all be during Akdos Gil's reign. The first episode has the Gokaigers having visited Rind Lake Family Farms (Japan's Little Switzerland.) and not only encounter a Rugby Action Commander who trains the Sugormins to be more a threat to the space pirates but also Momoranger Peggy who helps remind them of nature's beauty to protect. The Gokai Changes for that one are Gorenger, Sun Vulcan, Fiveman and Kakuranger and they'd all use their ball finishers. The other one happens after the 2nd part of the Kakuranger tribute which shows that Damaras Actually survived the giant finisher better proving him to be strong! But he's Really damaged and attacks both pirates And Zangyack! Ninjaman gets used again for this but no mecha fight. I think my favorite ep would be the Liveman one. Definitely some Volt memories with that one!...I Do think Maybe Warz Gil should have had a knife for Something to defend himself with. That and for the Gavan crossover, I actually wish there were More prisoners at Makku Prison! Dryer Dimension from Jetman, the Three Idiot Gorma from Dairanger, Acha and Kocha from Ohranger, the Bowzock trio from Carranger, Charcoal Grill Org from Gaoranger but here's the bigger surprise: Tineranger's Lila should also be imprisoned there thus revealing what became of her! As for my thoughts on Basco and Navi? When you get to Gobusters and Zyuohger, I'll tell you more! But I agree with Navi meeting Tac of Timeranger! I honestly think Tac Was developed from Navi's tech!

Really liked this show, but yeah I do agree the villains were the weakest part, with the exception of Barizorg having a nice rivalry with Joe, Warz Gill which I actually find enteraining and I kinda like that his motive of wanted to prove himself as a competent ruler despite being an idiot and wanting to get off his father's shadow as he think everyone have no trust in him (ironically tough since his father truly cared for him as shown by the fact the emperor only came into play when his son is killed and more than Earth domination his priority is avenge his son's death by killing the Gokaiger) and Basco being to me one of the most entertaining son of bitch of all sentai, seriously not only when he gets here you know shit is on, but the actor is absolutly killing it in that role and steal the show everytime he appears one of the most entertaining sentai villain for sure, and one of the most competent at that given how much ass kicking he gave the Gokaiger, and how he outsmarts both Gokaiger and Zangyak on multiple occasion. Also as far as tribute episode goes, my favorite were the Liveman one I relly liked this one as we got Joe having the confirmation that is mentor is dead and cannot be revert back, and that Joe must kill him, with Liveman Yellow truly relate with Joe given what happened in Liveman, and the antagonist of this episode being a clear hommage to Dr Bias they even bring back Bias's actor to dub him and even have him say one of Bias most iconic quote "The word defeat doesn't exist in my computer memory", the Jetman one for obvious reason and the Hurricaneger double episode one in which I truly enjoy having the old Hurricaneger teamed up with the Gokaiger and they bring back the 2 best villains of Hurricaneger what's not to love.

Amazing movie and a review

Gokaiger...its basically one piece IN SPACE!!! as a one piece fan myself I can see alot of similarities between the Gokaigers and the Strawhats based on personality alone although if I'm being totally honest Gai honestly feels more like Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia than anything which kinda makes him outta place for me but meh what are ya gonna do

It's like my top 3 Super Sentai series since it does what Decade failed to create an anniversary series. I also loved the tribute episodes good or bad since I grew up with these teams. I agreed that the villain's side is really bad except Basco as he steals the show every time he appeared. I think you didn't mention the first Super Hero Taisen movie which is like the best of both Riders and Sentai in the Ultimate crossover before Avengers Endgame did it. (Although the plot is pretty dumb if you think about it but then Marvelous and Tsukasa are good at what they do best) I find that if Gokaiger does not have the rangers keys, they are pretty average since any previous teams that have stronger powers can easily overwhelm them. I have a crush on both Luka and Ahim as it is rare to see both female leads who are both good and pretty at the same time. Marvelous is badass like the strong red ranger leader, Don and Gai are comic relief. I actually don't really like Joe maybe he is too "ikemen" for me. I think Toei is unable to create the same success for an anniversary series after Gokaiger as the way I see Zekaiger, it is not appealing to me for now. I can't wait for the 10 years after movie but pray it doesn't mess up like most reunion movies.

New here, new subscriber as of today, your videos are great. Now, I have been watching Sentai for going on 15 years now. I've finished Everything that has been a Power Ranger show, and a lot of the showa stuff. This is only the second video of yours I'm watching so I don't know if you brought it up in the Megaranger review or not but I haven't watched Dynaman yet so I didn't know that the Diet Crepe song from there was a reference to the Dynaman theme song

Luka has a crazy sword style that could give saskue form naruto a run for his money I would not mess with her

This was my first Sentai I had ever watched and I loved it so the nostalgia aspect doesn’t apply here. For the Wild West episode it would’ve been cooler if they were sent to ‘Power Rangers’ world as a nod to our version just for fun and to have an unexpected reference since who would expect them to outright acknowledge PR outside of Akibaranger? One thing that makes you think is do the keys automatically instill the techniques and tactics of all 200 Rangers or do they memorize all of them just in case they need to use that particular suit.

It must have been difficult to watch all the previous Sentai just to get to Gokaiger.

Of the Sentai I'm curious of this is the one that honestly feels daunting to watch mainly as someone who hasn't watched Sentai much. I tried watching it once but felt I would watch some of the past Sentai shows before Gokaiger before going back to watching it. Debating between Dekaranger, Shinkenger and Boukenger for pre Gokaiger Sentai. Kiramager being the only post Gokaiger show I'm curious of getting unto.

I did comment on how I would want to be friends with this team of rangers some time ago. Well, not only would I want to be friends with them, but I would also be kind enough to introduce them to stuff that is native to my home state of Michigan.

This was a good anniversary season for Super Sentai. The things that make me love this series the most are the character dynamics and the tributes. Although I wished Zyuranger had an actual tribute instead of just having Goushi appearing at one of the final episodes. It’s like the writers forgot about Zyuranger and decided to make a quick one with it in the season finale. Also I’m confused about Denziman’s tribute because Denzi-Blue appeared along side with Ryuuranger and Deka-Pink, but the Gokaigers still had to get their approval in a separate episode, yet they didn’t need to for Denzi-Blue since he appeared in the movie. But if that’s the case, then shouldn’t they already have the Dairanger and Dekaranger approval too??? Same goes for Boukenger, Go-Onger, and Shinkenger who also made a brief appearance in the movie. I thought all of the veterans shown in the ranger key glowing sequence counts as their approval, but there needed to be a separate episode for those teams. Of course there’s nothing wrong with that, but it feels strange that some teams count and some don’t, especially for Denziman since he appeared along with a member of Dairanger and Dekaranger, but those two teams needed an episode to get their approval while they don’t for Denziman.

Somehow JAKQ's inconsistent tone was a major contributor to it being one of my least favourite Sentai. But it works perfectly for Gokaiger. I think Gokaiger and Zenkaiger provide evidence for rival theories for the existence of each Sentai either existing in the same universe or each in their own universe. To get my head around this, Gokaiger exists in a universe where a version of all of the Sentai exist in one timeline, but it's a separate canon to the singular Sentai per universe norm (with the exception of Denziman and Sun Vulcan which have a direct link in the form of Queen Hedrian).

so thats how the belts work, i have a belt that works similarly for my character, as it houses a teleporter that access my weapons locker with either MY weapons, or weapons from other tokusatsu or superheroes if i want it

It wuold be cool that the next aniversary season uses a villain motif where the red ranger uses the powers of the main villains of the franchise meanwile the other ones use the powers of the generals and the sixt ranger use the powers of the monsters of the week having the exclusive ability of invocating his own foot soldiers

1. Likeable Characters 2. Great World Building 3. Fantastic Opening and Ending Song 4. The Past Rangers manage to gave contribute to the show not just a fanservice 5. Naruhisa Arakawa the main writer for the show (he is my favorite toku writers) 6. Best Anniversary (Zyuohger didn't do much as a anniversary imho) 7. No single bad or meh ep for me imho (I know they are not perfect at least they were enjoyable) It makes Gokaiger to be my Top 1 or should I say my most favorite Sentai Series of all time.

With my watch of this season and Ten Gokaiger I finally finished this season. And I have to say this season and also Fourze was needed. I don't really need to say much this time because this show speaks for itself of how awesome and respectful it is to the legacy. Now the one thing I disagree with people is who should be the final villian the Emperor and Basco. And I say the final villian should be the Emperor because Basco is not the other rangers problem. He is Marvelous's problem and well if Basco was the final villian then this is just the red ranger show and I don't want that.

If Gokaigers 10 years after will be very good, will you make it 5/5 grownups and spandex, or will it be the same?

You have to watch the Shirikanger crossover movie to know why they were their. Long story short they became wandering spirits after the movie. They ultimately got new bodies in the 10 Years Latter film.
