There's a Power Rangers Character whose full name has Doggie and Cruger in his name and that is Doggie Cruger's American counterpart Anubis "Doggie" Cruger.

I really like the suits in this show. Especially Deka Master and Deka Swan. I am glad their PR counterpart are playable characters in Power Rangers Battle for the Grid.

Dekaranger is a show that touches on a lot of new ideas without exploring them beyond one or two episodes. First off is episode 37, which is pretty dark even for a serious season such as this - I'd have liked to have seen more like this, but I guess having just the one makes it special. Then there's the high number of rangers, at 10, which was the most for its day and has since been surpassed. It would have been great to see a 10 member roll-call for the finale, but I get that one ranger was a movie exclusive and Swan (who's actress looks great for a 40+ year old by the way) can only henshin once every 4 years. The last one I can think of is episode 43, where Dekaranger Robo, Dekabike Robo and Dekabase Robo use the Dekawing Canon in a giant robo team finisher - something I haven't seen again until one time in Kiramager Episode 33 and it looked great both times. Again, I can see how something like this shouldn't be done too often as it ruins the novelty of it. Although it may happen in one or more of Magiranger, Boukenger, Gekiranger, Go-Onger, Shinkenger or Goseiger as I have yet to watch those seasons. Overall I enjoyed Dekaranger. As you said, without an over-arching villain to tie it all together, it feels like something is missing but it's a nice change of pace. I've heard speculation (but not seen any evidence) that Dekaranger may have been a bullet train themed Sentai at one point in development, owing to the window patterns on the core 5 helmets looking like the fronts of bullet trains. I find this interesting, as it was made and aired 10 years ahead of ToQger, the Dekabase Robo and Hyper Ressha TeiOh both go from horizontal to vertical when transforming from their base modes to robo modes, and Ajinomoto Stadium was used as the interior set for both. Probably all of these are coincidences, but I find it interesting all the same.

This is one of my fave Sentai programs. And I love how they find ways to revisit the characters and the world of Dekaranger. If any Sentai program would have benefitted from an extended run a la Gorenger, it would be Dekaranger.

Bro finished Hard Boiled Liscencse yesterday got confused and mistook it for a different episode in your comment, my bad lol. That has to be one of the darkest episodes in the series no mechs, no big battles, and it easily made Hoji the most compelling character in the franchise. Can’t wait to watch the Speed esque episode 38.

My first sentai and second favorite sentai i remember watching this show on a desktop a while back. Ban would have to be my favorite character reminds me of myself growing up 😂😂😂. The last episode will forever be one of my favorites that last scene was filled with so much passion and made you want to cheer them in the end

Hard boiled licence was mentioned in the Hurricanger tribute of Akibaranger so you know that Arakawa was really proud of that episode. Also Naruhisa Arakawa is my favorite Tokusatsu writer

I don't really mind the CGI since I was born in the year 2000, and I grew up with a lot of GCI animation so seeing it used in live-action and calling it out bad or outdated is completely inconsequential, insignificant, or unimportant to me. (Especially since it was made in 2004. Now if it looked like this say 2014 then I would call it bad.)

Glad you like it more the second time. Though disagree on Agent Abrella, for me he was a good final villain given how Dekaranger was more episodic. He was the one who essentially made the rise in deadly crime possible, instead of world-dominating plans, he manipulated and schemed from behind the scenes and profited from the crimes, thus allowing him to have more menace than many villains who can only bitch about their plans failing while doing nothing about it themselves. Zahab: "Why do you idiots keep failing!" Budoh: "Captain since it's only episode 22 and the Gingaman don't have the Axe that can harm you yet, why not get off your ass and fight them yourself?" Zahab:".....Dokoku Chimatsuri didn't fight the Shinkengers!" Budoh: "One that hasn't happened yet, two he has the sealing character in him." Zahab: "......I'm voiced by Daimaou, I can do whatever I want." Budoh: "Didn't Daimaou fight the Kakurangers multiple times and have the best villain in Sentai for a son." Zahab runs off crying. Sanbas:"Bring up Junior again?" Budoh: "Yep."

I think Dekaranger is probably the one Sentai show so far where it makes sense to not have a major villain group. Mostly because, setting its metal heroes influences aside, Dekaranger is one of those big genre shows so it really plays up the episodic cop show aspect. The lack of an overarching plot makes it work pretty well in that regard. DekaRed is also my go-to example of how to do high energy gun fights because the action never stops moving. Between this and Gekiranger, I would absolutely love to see Toei do a deep dive into different genres again. Can you imagine a Sentai show that doubles as medical drama?

I still remember the Red ranger interview with both the Sentai and the PR Red Ranger actors, in which the first one explains how the producer at the time fell in love with the yellow ranger... To later find out that she got married to another guy LOL.

You know what.... We're on the same page. I too when as kid kinda skipped SPD due to it's more serious cop theme (which bores me back then), and when i discover Dekaranger at teenage i never give it a chance. Only after recently watching both SPD & Dekaranger (and all it's movie) that i felt dumb for skipping this amazing premise and came to truly appreciate how well done these 2 are, while not certainly perfect either

I love this show. This was my introduction to sentai. Ban will forever be one of my favorite reds. Probably the best loud red in my opinion.

An update: while surfing the Tube, I stumbled upon a plethora of upload that was dated from late 70s to early 80s Japan, a young lady resembles Mako Ishino(lady who played Swan Shiratori/Dekaswan) and it turns out; she is. Ishino-san was also a young idol singer during that time but a competent actress . Even today she can sing her debut single at her age.

When someone asks me what is the best Super Sentai to start with, I always point to Dekaranger. Awesome opening and ending songs, a charming cast of characters (both on the heroes and villains side), amazing suits, great battles, enjoyable team-up movies, wacky comedy, not too silly but not too serious, and Girls in Trouble. Dekaranger is the total package of Super Sentai awesomeness.

Kinda sad that you didn't mention trick room in the review. Seeing Sen recreated the room in his head is still one of the most impressive shit in Super Sentai.

Dekaranger is a great season. It misses out my top 5 but I still love it because it's different from other Sentai seasons. It's the reason why I really like Go-Busters because much like how you compare Deka to Ultraman, Busters is pretty much a Kamen Rider esque season. Also, I'm kinda disappointed you didn't make a Street Fighter joke when Tetsu says Sonic Boom.

Here is something you should know about this director for when you do Kyoruger. He likes to incorporate the environment into the mech battles, even if it, means using CGI to give them some more life to them.

The music and the suits are a stand out from the show with interesting episodic structure of this memorable sentai show for my humble opinion out of the way i’m looking forward to magiranger.

Ah Dekaranger, this was my 2nd Sentai show i've ever watched so far right after Abaranger and even tho I think it's predecessor series is better by just a tiny bit, I have to say that DEKARANGER WAS AN AMAZING SHOW & I HIGHLY ENJOYED MY TIME WITH IT BRUH!! 🙏😭 There's just sooo much to love from this show like with my 4 favorite characters being Boss Doggie, Ban, Sen, & Tetsu and I have to say that my 2 most favorite episodes of the show have to be the ones with Ban's ancestor & the Hoji boxing one which are both great & super enjoyable episodes. Overall, Dekaranger was one hell of a ride for me personally 🥲

The weird thing about Volga's actor being Prince Junior's actor from Kakuranger is that now, whenever I rewatch Volga's entrance in the movie, I have to sing Prince Junior's theme song in the background.

I really loved Dekaranger and I agree that its one of the best Super Sentai series. I too also liked almost the Film Noire episodes about Houji, its one of those episode where I was in the edge of my seat all the way. About the judgement system, even I have question about it as well. They need to explore and explain it more. Anyways, glad you enjoy Dekaranger. Kaiju no Kami. Thumb Up to you!

I got to it like two years ago and I loved it! It was also interesting how much power rangers kept in from Dekaranger even with the changes.

Also ordered the DVD’s of both Zyuranger and Megaranger and I can’t wait to watch those soon. Also, do you remember how much the shout factory sentai DVD’s were when they originally came out. What was the first price shout listed for their DVD’s. Also do you think it’s worth spending $40 on just one season, or do you think they might get rereleased?

I really enjoyed dekaranger. I keep coming back to it then and again. Really like the characters and act like normal people for me. My favorite episode is DekaBreak's three part introduction with the hell siblings. I just always love to rewatch these episodes cause they make me realize how much I love Tetsu for being a showoff. He reminds me of myself. Try to act cool, tell people what they are saying is nonsense, and always love to showoff. Definitely one of my favorite 6th rangers. I do love episode 26 when they fight in the club. Shows how much Hoji is committed to capturing a criminal even though he doesn't show that much. I really liked agent abrella in dekaranger than grum in spd. Grum felt to generic for me while abrella reminds me of a mafia boss like Don Dolnero from Timeranger. After watching timeranger a few years back, I realized how similar it was to dekaranger and that is what made me enjoy both seasons. I really now want to give both seasons a rewatch for how much I enjoy them. Overall I would give Dekaranger a 3.5/5 not bad but not amazing like other seasons like timeranger. A definite recommend if you want to see the omega ranger actually be used.

I always, always wanted to see this show, and hoped that Shout would get to it someday: sadly, it seems they had to end the sentai lineup RIGHT before this happened, which... is more depressing for me than missing out on Fiveman and before, oddly enough. I think it's because while I liked SPD as a kid growing up, it just felt "weird" to me, mainly due to the taking place in the future and weird monster-focused universe that show had: Anubis in that show looks like a completely terrifying design that you think would be fit for an enemy monster: but no, he's the commander. But the suit designs and the mech I always loved, so Dekaranger having the stuff I like and not the stuff I disliked, made it one of the sentai I always hoped would be released someday. Maybe that'll come around sometime, here's hoping. That, and I *really* like Doggie Kruger. He just looks so good and cool compared to anubis, but also funny and silly due to the fact that there are lots of scenes where he just has his mouth agape with happy eye expressions, even though he's supposed to be serious or worried. It's so goofy and I can absolutely see why the US team went with a CGI, more animated redesign: even if the original suit is cooler. Finding out he has epic sunglasses in this review made me burst out laughing and I can tell just from those instances alone that there's likely tons of funny moments with him, which makes him to be more memorable of a leader than any other mentor I could think of save for Dappu or the Kakuranger Narrator. I think with this review I'm also all caught up on the toku reviews I missed due to my job hunt and busy life, so I'm pretty much set. :) Oddly enough, I think this may also be the newest sentai that I'd have a remote interest in watching, as it seems every show afterward has something I don't seem to care about. (stupid CGI, flashy animations, silly designs, poor plot, little to write home about) save for maybe the suit designs: which Power Rangers can just use and do better with (as I found out with Beast morphers, much to my happy surprise) Here's hoping Shout releases Sentai stuff again, even if it's like KR stuff and digital only, I'd honestly take that just to have more EN sentai if that's the only option besides it not happening at all.

That was the series that made me love the monster of the week format, and I like having smaller plots that are self-contained while also having some that build up over time and served as the main plot for the series. (Just like the dozen of RPG games that I've played.) One of my favorite episodes is Devil's DekaBase and Forever Dekaranger. Especially when DekaWing Robo comes in and kicks butt in episode 49

How do compare this to PR SPD?

Dekaranger took me 6 months to finish, mostly because I was busy with other things (EDIT: I was too addicted to Old School RuneScape at the time). But I still really liked it.

This was among the first toku series I watched from beginning to end along with Kamen Rider Kabuto.

Fun little fact, Dekabase robo is the second 'titan sized ' mecha after Super Turbo Builder in turboranger. He's also a similar size to metroplex and fortress meximus from transformers.

Any Pink Ranger that loves to take baths with her rubber duckies is a major WIN in my book. Good Job.

this series had reference to bioman which is number on their ranger suits reference to bioman (red one, yellow four and pink five) and the enemy used giant robot as gear did in bioman and the series also note as 20th anniversary to bioman which born on 1984

I finished this series today and I loved it. I even got It on the Shout Factory DVD.

So they pretty much combined DekaBlue, DekaBreak alongside a dead ranger father plot to make Sky in SPD, that's cool, shame that the OmegaRanger was kinda pointless cuz he didn't get any kind of story or development outside of the battles.

I think it’s personal that in Timeranger they arrest criminals and put them in a freezer prison in the future and in Dekaranger the alienizers are committed too many murders, that they have to delete them instead of arresting them, so that they won’t have to commit any more murders in the future.

I took a close look at Deka Gold and it looks like they did use a real suit. The only CGI part is the golden shine she gave off.

You know, I never really minded Ban. Yeah he was loud but the team would call his ass out when he did something wrong, basically he was allowed to be wrong. It also helped that he wasn’t the leader so it didn’t feel like he was rewarded with a position of power and responsibility for no reason other than being the protagonist. Can’t say the same for reds like Daigo, Right, Takaharu, Lucky, or Koh.

Bro I am currently on Dekaranger and decided to watch it a few months after revisiting SPD(Which is also good despite it’s faults) I am loving the hell outta Dekaranger. It’s fantastic, I am on episode 37 and it’s only getting better for me. I love the blue ranger Hoji, but part of me would have been interested in seeing him as the red ranger. Umeko and Jasmine are some of the best pink and yellows I have seen so far in this franchise, I particularly love the episode involving Jasmine trying to reach the old alien detective after has had lost his daughter, it was very well done. My only gripe is that I find the Doggy Cruger in this series to be kinda flat especially when compared to his PR counterparts However as a whole I find Dekaranger to a better series than SPD, and I was shocked as to how many episodes SPD flat out copied beat for beat. Still can’t fault them for that since the whole point of PR is to be a translation of the sentai. Fantastic show, but I disagree, I think almost all the one off villains to absolutely fantastic and memorable. I was so wrong thinking that I shouldn’t watch any sentai series that was already adapted into PR, since this so far is great. I don’t expect you to respond to all of this as it’s a really long comment, but if you can let me know.

What can I say about this show because I loved it just as much as SPD. Dekaranger ended up being fun for me to the point I had to stop myself from watching the next arc and to move on to my other shows I was watching. My favorite character is Jasmine because she doesn't feel sidelined and she's so pretty. I can't say I have a problem with Hothead reds to be honest. If I had a issue with Ban then it was in the Dekaranger vs Abaranger movie where he miss judged Ryoga most of the time I cared more is he did his job. Umeko was almost my least favorite mainly because of the fan service bath scenes but thankfully she didn't instead my least favorite was Lisa because of her way of thinking. There were a lot of good episodes I liked except for a few exceptions where I thought the SPD episode it was adapted from was better to me. Now something I didn't know was the judgement rules for this show. I have no opinion on the death penalty however I didn't not know about this debate for this show and I don't really know how I feel about this. And I can see why SPD changed this to containment cards because my niece watches power rangers and I don't want her seeing a cop power rangers team killing criminals.

Funny thing, in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, Tetsu Inada voiced Aki Izayoi's father Hideo.

This show was one of four toku shows to win a seiun award which is Japan's version of a Hugo award. The other 3 was Ultraman Tiga, kamen rider kyuga and you're not going to believe it Ultraman Z.

It wuold be cool if the show ad multiple villain organisations that didn 't lasted one episode maybe like in goseiger bassically wen an villain organisation is defeated an next one comes out of nowhere and that happens again and again (being four evil organizations this time) until the weapon seller beggins is atack on the base

I love banban and his comrades thinks so too, because he encourages and remind them to never be in despair, and he helps and protects the citizens from getting killed from the criminals.

(16:05-16:25) I love how the lesson of that episode was it that they shouldn't rely on a single Ranger to do their job and that they should all work as a team.....and Toei still insists on making seasons where the Red Ranger is the main focus, is the strongest, most talented member and the one getting the most power-ups. Practice what you fucking preach, Toei!

I guess the Innocent Vs Death Penalty element of this series is kinda extreme but this is a Japanese kids show. I am sure they are ok with capital punishment without thinking about the consequences. I wonder if in Power Rangers SPD they instead dubbed it into sending monsters to the Shadow Realm instead. Or to the Negaverse.

I guess the Dekarangers executing the criminals/monsters doesn't age well given today's standards and why in Power Rangers SPD they just trapped them in card-like objects much like the Undeads from Kamen Rider Blade.
