Yes, Muddstah forgot to take his Terastodon when he left the game. Ironically, if he had blocked one of the tokens instead of Karona, he would've survived that combat at 1 life... :(

He would have won if I hadn't stolen his Temporal Mastery. He had more than enough mana to keep recasting Beacon of Tomorrow and taking infinite turns moving forward.

@@MTGMuddstah Yes, but wasn't that public information? Chaos Wand was already in play, but I guess, Magic is hard.

@@MTGMuddstah Wouldn't Fevered Visions counteract that, unless he had enough mana to cast it twice per turn?

@@MTGMuddstah At least 2 of his permanents were controlled by other players, so Zedruu would have killed him on his upkeep even without the Chaos Wand activation. Nice play by Matt.

Not sure if you're joking, but... Zedruu's ability doesn't have any limitations aside from targets being legal: if you can target the permanent and the opponent, you can donate it. Zedruu herself is no exception.

You are mistaken. The effects happen in order printed. In this case, draw cards then cast something for free. You have the cards in hand before the 2nd part resolves.

@@johns832 Oh snap, when I was playing with one of the other expertise cards that didn't involve drawing anything I had to do the free cast right then and it seemed as if it resolved first, but rereading on the MTG website it is correct to draw and then cast.

It's one of the cards that I find myself either cutting or re-adding. It can whiff pretty often, but when it hits it can be **chef's kiss**

Only if you're the default controller (you cast it or it entered the battlefield under your control to begin with). If there's another effect giving you control of that permanent, that effect just ends.

Until you hit a spell that you can't cast, anyway. E.g. a counterspell.

Hi Philipp, Thanks for pointing out this potential mistake! If you check the other comment threads (and the pinned post), this was actually handled correctly in the game. I can't do the justification well enough, but the important element is knowing how the permanent came into play.

The Lords of Chaos in action in this game is proof that gods exist.

The user Sniperfuchs explains why it works in a comment below. Basically your example is correct, because the creature comes into play under your control from the Bribery, but we didn't use Bribery. The reasoning we had, and I believe is correct, is because the cards had come into play under their owners control and were then given away by another effect. Said effect is then removed when the player dies, and thus the owner regains control of the card. I'm probably not doing the explanation justice though.

You missed the "any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end" part. The permanents will only be exiled if the losing player was the default controler (they cast it or put it on the battlefield under their control to begin with, which is the case with Bribery). Otherwise, the control-changing effects just end and the permanents return to their previous controllers.

It's mainly to get infinite turns so I can attack reveal beacon of tomorrows get damage in get an extra turn, repeat. Or use it for damage I don't like the lab man win its boring

@@zaddyzathog4087 I haven't heard of that combo, and as much as I agree it's a boring win strat, you may still want to consider it for the sake of consistency. I get being "Principled," but it did cost you the game. Personally the dirtiest way I used to win in my Four color (everything but white) deck was via Biovisionary and Rite of Replication w/kicker.

Hi Eli! Thanks for looking out for mistakes. There are a few comment threads in this video that cover the rule you quoted, and why how this game unfolded was accurate to rule 800.4a. Please post there if you have examples of past rulings that support your comment.

"800.4a. When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game, *any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end* , and all spells and abilities controlled by that player on the stack cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time he or she left, priority passes to the next player in turn order who’s still in the game." It doesn't matter what the control-changing effects are or who controls them: they just end. Permanents are only exiled if the losing player is the default controller, the one who cast them or put them on the battlefield under their control.

My bad. I didn't realize the wording of Confusion in the Ranks, I thought the exchange happened as the permanent entered the battlefield not when. Under C.R. 800.4a, if a player leaves the game, a nontoken permanent that enters the battlefield under that player's control but is owned by another player will be exiled, as long as no player still in the game has ever controlled that permanent.

@@Eldrad235 Let's say you use an enchantment which gains control of something. In the first step, all objects you own get exiled. That would mean your permanent source of control is gone and they regain control. If you have say a sorcery which does "Gain control of target permanent", then the first step with everything you own being exiled happens, THEN any control effects still around, like your sorcery, will stop. So they still regain their permanent. No exiling. If you take control of a spell on the stack instead of a permanent, in the second step you would still lose control. THEN, it checks whether or not there are any spells you control on the stack, which can't be the one you just tried to take control of since that is already canceled in the second step. So in other words, the source of the control has nothing to do with it, it's just strictly applying all the steps in rule 800.4a one after the other. I can't think of any situation where something that is NOT owned by you and just controlled will ever be exiled but not giving you a 100% signed contract that it can't happen since Magic can be complicated :P The only situation where that last step I mentioned ever applies is if you use an enchantment which exiles your own permanent and gives it back when it leaves. That enchantment will get exiled in step 1. In step 4, it checks if there are still permanents you control and exiles them too. This situation only arises with your own permanents from what I know (unless there are VERY specific cases I can't think of), because if you use said enchantment exiling something your opponent owns but that YOU control, if that enchantment leaves, it should give it back to the owner, NOT you (even though you controlled it). Sorry for the wall of text, but this game and its rules are killing me sometimes so I wanted to be as specific as possible lol

@@Sniperfuchs If you had stolen something with Hostage Taker and then cast it, there isn't any control effect, so that card would be exiled when you lose, right? Similar with Animate Dead and Rise of the Dark Realms.

The only situation in which stuff gets exiled is if the losing player is the default controller, the player who cast/played that permanent or put it on the battlefield under their control. Stuff you cast with Hostage Taker or put on the battlefield with Bribery, Animate Dead, etc, makes you the default controller.

I’ve done worse. Was about to die so threw all my mana into a death cloud which basically reset the game and added another 30-45min. Died to my own Dark Prophecy since I had a bunch of zombies out but like 5 health
