I call this the "Instagram family". Those people that post pics of the whole gang always happy and smiling, multiple time a day....

I thank God that I stumbled across Dave Ramsey this man is very Insightful, Empowering and very much Informative straight cut no chaser!

My step dad always told us "If you can't pay cash for it you can't afford it."

The problem is if you suddenly become sick, have a sick kid, lose your job, or your house burns down and you still have that balance on your card, you will find yourself stuck with that debt. The problem with keeping debt for any amount of time is that there is always that risk. What people forget about debt is the risk.

Most truly wealthy people I know live in such a way, no one would ever know it. And the people who are "flashy" are in debt up to your eyeballs!

I grew up surrounded by people that had no idea what they were doing with money. I too, did nothing but stupid stuff with money. Sadly, I am now fixing my stupid at age 50. I still have an amazing salary and wonderful family. Thank god for Dave. In the few months of practicing what he teaches I have money in the bank and my debts are disappearing! In the next 12-15 months I will be completely debt free and playing catch up. I know that hind site is 20/20, but I can’t help but wonder where I would be financially if I met Dave before I had graduated college. I can never say thanks to Dave enough for what he does.

He says in Texas they call that 'Big hat -no cattle' ? In Britain we say ' fur coat -no knickers' love the visuals both phrases throw up and how they really define their locale!

Some older people may want to work. My grandfather and step-grandmother had it pretty sweet when they retired. Their finances were straight, and they lived comfortably with no debt. But my grandfather, who was used to working since he was a young boy, couldn't stand it. He went back to work part-time as part of a cleaning crew, at the place he used to work. It didn't require a lot of responsibility, and he was not on a strict schedule. He just needed to do his tasks before or after the office workers were on the clock. From time to time he even got to see some of the people he used to work with. He was much more content.

this rant reminds me of my sister and her husband... they make more money than my wife and I and buy lots of expensive "toys" but they're always asking my parents for money because they're "struggling" give me a break... one of the many reasons I have nothing to do with them anymore and I don't miss it

The "ancient word" cracked me up. That is really a lost word for sure, Dave. I wish I would have said that word many a time while I was giving money to ungrateful people instead of having a budget and a plan. Good message as always. Your words are resonating in my life and I will become debt-free using your methods and tenacity. Time to grow up, as you said.

Dave Ramsey for President!

A friend of mine several years ago asked me to help her with her debt. She already lost a house. She was spending $80 every week so her and her daughter could have manicures. Her father was giving her the money. She refused, said her and her daughter needed to do that. That’s $240 a month on fingernails.

We went trick-or-treating with Ken, Barbie and their daughter this past Halloween. My husband had never met Ken before, wasn't a fan of his. Too much subtle-not-subtle bragging about this, that and the other. They either have far more money than we do or at least APPEAR to have far more money. It really annoyed my husband that he was so braggy, I didn't particularly care as we don't spend much time with them, and as I reminded hubby, either they truly ARE wealthy to afford that lifestyle, or they're drowning in debt. It makes no never-mind for us, as it is not our business and does not change our lives. I actually found it amusing to hear Ken force into conversation gems like, "Oh, we've been to Disney 6 times since our daughter (9 years old) was born" or, "Honey? What year was the 'vette, again?" when we were discussing something a far cry from cars. He really, REALLY needed us to know they have (or like to spend) lots of money. I wanted to say, "It's cool, man, we'd like you the same even if you were broke!".

Part of my morning routine is playing Dave Ramsey. He's right. Money touches every part and aspect of life. The goal is to manage yours responsibly, to the point where emergencies becomes an inconvenience , and your future is covered so you CAN retire. Part of that responsibility is to pass that knowledge to your babies

I believe people don't have retirement, some of the people in medical school are living in apartments that cost over $1300 per month!!!! One of my former co-workers was over paying for an apartment she couldn't afford. I'm in debt now, but I'm working my way out and I've admitted the behaviors I had is why I'm in this position. I'm have a goal to buy my house for cash and retire a millionaire.

There are (plural) massive marketing and finance organizations in the USA and Europe focused on making you feel as discontent as possible. Content people don't rush out to buy things they don't need and don't even really even want very much.

A lady I went to church with when I was a kid always wore the same dress each Sunday. That her one good dress which she wore to the Lord’s house - and she used make a lot of donations to the church’s community assistance programs. Ie. the opposite of Ken & Barbie.

When worked at my first job at a convenience store, I was working with this older gentleman. A guy walked in with a suit driving a Cadillac. He was nasty to us, and when he left, the older gentleman said to me: "See that guy who just walked out? He's a 'ten cent millionaire'. He is wearing that suit and he probably doesn't have underwear, he's driving that Cadillac and he probably can't afford gas. It's all for show."

"They're a facade". I felt sad hearing it. But I hear what he says and I agree. I hate the idea that America struggles in this way. I've made this observation myself also. I figured out that we're all trying to look* like we're competing with Ken and Barbie. It seems so undignified. We can all do better. I want better for my kids...so badly. That's where my "gazelle intensity" is, I guess. I don't want my kids to feel this kind of sadness. Even when* they make mistakes, I want them to at least know how to avoid this kind of facade in their own lives.

I know a couple at my church that are great. However, they follow Dave Ramsey and are debt free.

One thing I learnt from Dave Ramsey I’ll never forget is “before spending,always do the maths”. Thank you Dave Ramsey for helping some of us do a reality check and bring balance to our lives.

Dave Ramsey speaks the truth! Love this man! It’s crazy how we never think how much we are spending on a daily basis! It wasn’t until I saw his show that I paid attention and yes, I cut up my credit cards!

Years ago taking money out of my Visa card at the Casino , maybe the dumbest thing i have done.

I got out debt long before I ever heard of Dave Ramsey. I enjoy his show because I did most of the things he recommends. I am now a millionaire but just a high school graduate. I also have a highly technical job which I enjoy very much. I can retire any time I want to. By the way, I am a third generation atheist. My parents and grandparents were good with their money.

I follow Dave Ramsey since this also has a huge benefit for the energy crisis. Yes some of the old cars are gas guzzling, but not the same as continuing to buy SUV and pickup truck that cost more than a baseline Tesla Model 3 especially for use as a daily errand vehicle. For pickup truck, what do you put in the back of that truck on a daily basis? Not to mention there is a lot of old 4 cylinder cars out there with good miles per gallon that are helpful for people to use to get out of debt. Even the house, why would a small family (2 parents and 2 kids) get a 5 bedroom 3 bathroom house when you can just rent a cheap apartment? Then we have the school problem where you might have to rent in an expensive area to get a better school for your kids, but why are those other schools continue to be neglected all the time. At this point it might be best to homeschool kids and simply let the kids visit their neighbors and do other things to maintain social interaction and prevent the formation of depression especially when it comes to changing how the kids get their education and that they won't be able to see the other kids in the area. Food is another significant situation that has gone out of control. Enable your kids to cook and come up with their own ideas when it comes to food and enable them to eat more fruit and be able to cook some vegetables. We can hopefully correct the situation and enable people to become wealthy again. Also avoid the universities, they are becoming a money black hole. I do complain about the president Bush no child left behind policy and how it contributed to this financial situation when it comes to education and the many high schools that people can't rely on a person graduating high school to be educated and ready to get a job, but no, now you need a university, but might as well just buy the textbooks that cost a small fraction of the tuition, read them and practice solving the math problems, then you can work at any job that needs math and science.

His rate of return is WAY too high. The average CAGR over the past 15 years if 4.25% He's totally right about the rest of it. He just uses absurd growth rates.

What if your a business owner and you have to make constant purchases that a large amount? If your business has the money to pay for it, why not enjoy a free flight?

I hate that our society is set up by design to put you in debt for anything you need. Want a house? Take a loan. Want an education? Heres $50000, and you cant default on it. Everythings too expensive to live life without taking out loans of some sort.

On my street. I got to thinking about my neighbors. It's a very sad thought to think that maybe, MAYBE a few may be debt free. I know one lady said her son bought her house for her. And there is a retired couple that I believe is mortgage free, but who knows. There is one house that was bought as investment property and the guy that owns it lives in the next subdivision. That MIGHT be debt free. There are several other rentals, but who knows if they are cash houses or just covering mortgages? I have a friend that owns several houses, and he has several mortgages he is juggling as well. DIY properties. I hope to build a home out in the country and either sell or rent this one. It seems to be a pretty good neighborhood for upscale rental. I bought low. Probably the smallest, least expensive house in the whole subdivision. Probably the only SMART thing I did do!!!

One thing about credit cards: I have only one, which I had to keep in order to rent a car if I needed to. I would love to get rid of it, but car rental places will NOT take my debit cards; either personal or business. I even offered them the $400 'hold fee' they take, in cash (they give it back when you return the car), but no, they won't do it. What do you do in a case like that? By the way, that card has a 'cap' of $900.

On my street lives several multi millionaires, they never show off. Neighbor who earn 4miljon € per year(here in Finland all peoples incomes are public) and he still return emty plastic bottles in the shop like all people, getting 20cent on 0,5l. bottle. No arrogance.

I earned more than 10 plane tickets to Dominican republic using a credit card...how??...My friend used to have a deli store . charge 4000 every week...pay in full every month no interest...
