Ken keeps saying they’re doing well as CEOs when they’ve only been doing this for a day and they’re already trying to tank a deal that’ll net everybody billions.
Kendall has wanted it to all blow up since Mattson called him and patronised him. Until that call he wasn't interested in hearing the numbers from Stewy. I think deep down he wants it to fail so he can carry on running Waystar, even in a diminished form.
Kendall is overconfident, high on himself because his name was on a piece of paper. Roman is trying to honor his father’s wishes, trying to do exactly what his father would do. That’s the way he grieves.
why anyone seems to have watched this part? seriously some people are acting like roman speech was the one that changed mattson's mind when it's obvious they were ditching the deal ... what kept him in was shiv. and that makes it even more interesting since apparently the siblings want three different outcomes, shiv's want to sell the whole thing, roman wants to honor his father's deal and keep ant and ken wants to keep it all for himself and make his father turn in his grave.
Respectfully, you're not reading this properly. Shiv didn't do shit for the actual deal. Roman spilling the beans forced Mattson to up the price and go over the siblings heads to Frank. Shiv doesn't get any flowers for basically being manipulated. You're dead on about the sibling comparison and what they want tho. That's good work.
@@williammccormick984 i think the op is right in the sense that shiv did have that talk with mattson, at night, and she basically told him that if he keeps making bigger offers and whatnot he's gonna get the whole thing. and isn t that what he was doing at the end of the episode? he offered 192 per stock. 🤷♂
@@guzganciorodisie7234 ur a bit off. Whenever shiv says he should offer more she’s telling Mattson what he already knows. The only reason he ups the offer considerably is because Roman “admitted” him and ken were tanking the deal which is an SEC violation because as CEO, it’s their fiduciary duty to get the most amount of money for the shareholders. That’s why when franks takes the call, mattson doesn’t want to speak to ken or Roman they just tell frank the number so Rome and ken can’t keep it from the board and they have to take the deal. Honestly I think all that shiv really did was save Carolina and Gerri and even then I think mattson is partly playing her so she thinks they’re “friends” or whatever.
Shiv essentially got called out by Mattson in their convo for the shallow advice, however she clearly saved Gerri and Carolina that’s how I read it. He wanted an inside player in Shiv (take a pic of their faces).
@@williammccormick984 i really can't tell but i suspect that if he didn't had that late exchange he might have really jusr walked out.. shiv's report was important since it let mattson know that there was interest not only among logan's heirs (allegedly) but also the shareholders to sell. that's so much more information he could gather from two meetings with kendall and roman. he was like are guys are going to sell me this or not and they didn't answer the question. and that's not particularly obvious to me because two episodes ago the board was desperate to stall the negotiations because they were unsure about the price. so, if only for that, i think that is really useful for mattson to have some insider that he can communicate with and also might get him. that's not really unusual in this kind of negotiations, mediators are usually the most crucial for any agreement and they also tend to benefit a lot for it. so, i don't think neither of them are naive enough to trust each other completely but so far they share an end and the stronger side.

@@scottw8737 mattson seems a bit fake after seeing more of him. He’s impatient and rigid in how he wants things, but plays it as just being straightforward. He’ll get hyper focused on something but drops it when he gets bored or it gets to be a headache. Dude just does too much acid, the stuttering and getting frustrated that people won’t see his point of view was so accurate last episode.
Shiv didn't do shit, it was the brothers trying to tank the deal that caused Mattson to raise the offer and specifically Roman's outburst is what made him go so high. They failed to achieve what they wanted but everyone else got what they wanted though.

@@xtxpxhx yeah, especially with that eerie sound they are playing in the background of the scene. Ken's face is so unreadable now, I am rewatching the show as the season is airng, and I am noticing how confident Ken is speaking since his dad died. He didn't stutter, or stumble over his words once in this scene. Even fake-confident manic season 3 Kendall was stuttering and stumbling over his words. Seeing Ken this calm makes him more intimidating to me. Like a switch was flipped.
I think Roman agrees to this conspiracy, in part, because Kendall trusts him. That's saying a lot considering the last time they conspired to take over the company together.
