I like how the show didn't go for a simple narrative arc where Kendall ends up becoming exactly like his father. He becomes a distinctly Kendall version of his father, which feels more realistic. He is a half-hearted shadow of his father, taking on some of the horrible elements of Logan but combining that with his own issues, anxieties, and failures that his father distinctly lacked.
Yeah he definitely shares some similarities but I’d actually say Shiv and Roman are more like Logan in general than Kendall, but they also got their own issues so 🤣
Iverson (Kendall's son) was treated HORRIBLY by Logan...he made fun of him, beat him with a can. Logan even made Iverson TASTE THE FOOD that Kendall gave him to see if it was poisoned. He was a horrible grandfather and he didn't deserve any of his grandchildren risking their lives to go to his funeral

@@killermarfidyoh138 Clown take. Rava's done more for the kids than Ken has. He definitely doesn't not love them, but in this instance here he's treating them like property and not family. He's never really been "family" with them anyway, clearly prioritizing his career and his power over the relationship with his kids. Its only fair that Rava gets to make that decision, seeing as she's the one who has actually done all the child-rearing. Ken throwing a tantrum over this only goes to show how out of depth he is with his role as a father.

Also you do realize Ken's kids are one of the most protected class right? they live in a nice area in NYC and are kids of a billionaire who comes from a wealthy family which is also influential in terms of politics and entertainment and not to mention Ken is providing security for them lmao. From the looks of it Ken will win custody because the only reason the ex wife can provide for the kids is through Kendall and we all know not all that money from child support is being used for the kids.

Well Rava's sometimes can be a little exagerate, plus her lifestyle and their children, is provided by Kendall, and she seems to forget that from time to time.
Rava in my opinion is making the right choice for the sake of the children. Kendall is unhinged and an ego manic. Unfortunately he's becoming like his father.
Man this siblings are so fucked up. If kendall gets full custody his daughter will make his life hell, as she should. Logan kids were so obsessed with their father affection, but Kendall's kids have their mother, so if Kendall doesn't get it together there will be nothing but hate and contempt for him.
Natalie Gold does a fantastic job as Rava, and I think she's a great foil for Kendall. From the beginning her reactions to him give insight into the darker aspects of his character. It's clear there is a real fondness she has for him, but there is also a layer of incredulity and contempt that underscores most of their scenes together, particularly when he is excited about a new opportunity or a plan for the future. She never believes him, and she doesn't trust him because she knows that no matter what he says he will always do what he wants in the moment. To the audience, Rava's passive aggressive jibes play as almost mean or unsupportive, especially at the top season 1 where Kendall is arguably the most sympathetic lead and seems to be a person striving for redemption. But he only thinks he wants to be a good person, but he really wants to rule the world and still have everyone view him as a good person.
She's the only one who's known him intimately at his addictive depths -- I think it's so great that the show leaves Ken's addiction past to the imagination because we see how terrified Rava is of him and through her can interpret how dark his dark side can really be
This scene pissed me OFF. These are not people to him, he feels they are extensions of him so he feels that entitlement to enacting WHATEVER he feels. I was seeing comments last week saying Kendall will try to take full custody by next episode and it is starting! What a massive hypocrite. He is creating the exact dynamic Logan had with him and his siblings. On the matter of Rava, I would not be surprised if she ended up like Connor's mother if Kendall had his way. He can be so terrifying. Powerful infant.

For Kendall, getting married, going partying, doing drugs are just like pointless side quests to him and his main quest is getting the CEO job. But, he can't even fight the main boss, not his father but himself. His insecurity kills him, his parent's negligence from his childhood still haunting him, he doesn't know how to shut up or read his environment most of the time, he also can't take criticism. He can't lead a company if he doesn't know how to handle himself.
And remember, it was Roman's idea to insist that Mecken should be the president just because he and Mecken are pals last season. Kendall and Shiv wanted Jimenez to be president so does everybody else but then because of their idiotic reasons with Shiv's double cross her brother, they finally chose Mecken. The kids can't work together, they're bringing damage control on their life.
If she did that, Ken would have destroyed her. He’s one of the most powerful men in the world, his lawyers would ream her for domestic abuse and he’d instantly get full custody.

I actually think she's being a bit hysterical... It IS their grandfather's funeral, which has to be one of the places in terms of security, and it's a little dramatic to think they can't attend without danger.

Lot of brain dead takes in these comments about Rava BeInG MeAN tO KeN per usual. She looks completely broken by her decision to not go and how Kendall reacted. She’s always shown up for him (more than we see him show up for the her and the kids) and this is her tipping point. Literally one of the main points of the show is how money isn’t a substitute for a healthy family - the argument that she should shut up and deal with it bc she’s rich is insane. And Kendall is my absolute favorite character

I'm a thousand percent a Kendall Roy girl and will never put up my white flag but there's no way to justify or defend his actions in this or last episode. The one thing that always irked me about Kendall is how he is with his kids. He's a terrible father! I didn't like how he was with Roman either but I remember Roman being a racist Nazi last episode and I don't feel too bad. Nevertheless, Kendall was always the one who cared the most for the other siblings' well-being. He's overflowing with selfishness. Like, Shiv level narcissim
It's interesting how often Ken talks in short sound bites ("you're too online. You've lost context") when the people around him can actually form whole complex sentences. I noticed this too when he was working with the lawyers to take down Logan.
@@joshpeck904I'm going to count Sandy Furness too as you can see how his daughter, Sandi (or I call her Girl Sandi to not get confused) is taking care of him while he is sick even worry if she left him. Girl Sandi is the opposite side of Shiv, she is way more calm, professional and also very obidient and respectful to her father while Shiv is talkative, rude, spoiled and mostly act like a child and even rebel against her father. Therefore, Sandy Furness is a better father than Logan Roy just the way of how his daughter behaved.
There was this pivotal moment when Logan, after sending Kendall to rehab, pulled him out after 2 days, in his lowest of moments, for PR reasons. Kendall had a chance to get in touch with his feelings but Daddy decided otherwise. Kendall never went back and kept on engaging in his Dad’s brutal reality, unprepared and fragile, a little boy really. This whole mess is the result. He pretends he knows what he’s doing but deep down inside it’s all conflict.
People are implying he's turned into his father...look at how Rava treats this. She's dealt with it before. They made references to Kendall getting angry at the kids in the past. People forget he's always had a patriarchal side to him because he's barely around his kids.
Kendall had a few Logan moments this episode. One is this scene, then the reaction to Jess wanting to quit then the third being how savage he was to Roman at the post funeral gathering. Our number one boy is becoming a true killer.
Poor Rava wtf...my aunt married the son of a powerful man, and they took her baby😓 She got super depressed and wouldn't leave her house. She is better now...but those are the risks of dating someone that powerful
In the end logan always wins, his death made kendalll into a true killer. Kendalls children will probably resent him like he did with logan, kendall will probably force roman out and beat shiv and mattson. He'll get what he always wanted at the cost of everything which is what logans been trying to convey to kendall throughout the series.
Something that breaks me about this scene is I think rava was indirectly offering kendall a way out. If she didn’t want him showing up she would’ve called him when they were already en route or at least lied and said they left already. Her telling him they were still there and giving him time to get to them was her way of offering him the option of joining them and being there for his kids, and he fucked it (like he usually does when it comes to the kids)
I highly doubt that was the meaning of this scene, and If i remember corectly Kendall was the one that called Rava, not the other way around. It just happened that in that moment She and the kids were preparing to leave. There's no way Kendall would've missed the funeral of his father and Rava wouldn't have asked him to do that just to come with her and the kids. She didnt care about him in that moment , She only cared for her children to be safe, as would any good mother.
I used to think Rava was a little bitchy to Ken but I can imagine how crazy it had to be Kendall's wife. Drug use and his crazy manic shit. Had to be exhausting AF.

The Iverson actor is literally in university now, he’s way too old to be in the show. In the S1 finale he and Sophie are like 6 years old, and the entire show takes place over only a ~2 year timespan.
Also like, and maybe this is my family being weird, I don't think anyone brings kids that young to a funeral? Yes it's their grandpa but still. I think my first attendance was around twelve or thirteen admittedly I don't remember how old Ken's kids are though.
This is one of the few moments I actually support Kendall. Are you really telling me the safest place for the kids wouldn't be with WayStar security at Logan's funeral? No matter what Rava thinks of Ken, it was completely wrong to take his kids from him on the day of his Dad's funeral. I understand how this is building to Kendall's character arc of becoming Logan, but really, WayStar has top security and it's ridiculous to suggest the kids wouldn't be safer with Kendall.
On the one hand, having your kids at your dads funeral (on its face) seems like a reasonable request. And Rava's concerns are exactly that, she just says she is concerned over and over without really citing a cogent and specific reason. And of course if the kids and her went they wouldn't be in any danger. But of course, you can't help but notice that Kendall isn't really a father - like 2% of his time in the show is him acting as a father. Most of the time I forgot that Rava and the kids even existed. And he is sort of turning into Logan here so I see what the show is going for. When any of the Roy kids don't get what they want or can't control a situation its wild to see them flail about.
Kendall abandons his own family and even blame Rava for nothing. Shiv threats Tom as her lapdog for nothing. Roman kept coming closer to Gerri and then firing her for nothing. The siblings mostly are seeing Greg as a random distant cousin who come out of nowhere and in the end, Greg won over them. In the end of the day, they all become nothing and Logan's last words to them, "I love you but you are not serious people" will forever haunt them.
In my opinion, what makes this season different from seasons 1-3 is that with the first 3 seasons are expanded time frames with weeks to months as the characters remain consistent. With season 4, this just happens within ONE week! It’s been one week since Logan’s death and every character’s ethos/attitudes have been changed left to right due to stress, anxiety, depression, etc.
@@joseramirez7629 this! And I actually think each character is reacting in a way that makes total sense. We have seen them this way in glimpses from the very start. The writers understand human psychology in and out. They really made these people feel so real and you can see how well thought out every single thing is. It's truly what makes this show one of the best. At the tip top
Guys, Kendall isn’t Logan. He was completely ineffectual in this scene. He didn’t impose his will on anyone and override Rava. He was useless and only made himself look like a fool. He’s trying to be a bully and failing.
Even tho Kendall sucks as a father, Rava was overreacting... There wasn't any danger realistically speaking to make them miss the funeral. I'd be piss if I were Kendall.
I love how every show that has an anti-hero always has traumatized or psychotic people who don't see the issues with the main characters' behavior. Or who condone their actions. Or who hate the characters that go against the protags for good reason. It's also just funny to me personally that so many are like "but its their grandfather's funeral! She's so bad for this!" As if that means literally fuck all. Family doesn't mean anything when that family treats you like shit. I feel like some the people saying that must be traumatized like Logan's kids, and just never processed it or moved on in a healthy way because of the "family is everything" mindset abusers instill in their children. And because it's just a prevalent thing in society. Family only matters if the people treat you right and aren't damaging toward you. Anything else is irrational and weak, or comes from an unhealthy mindset. You can be loyal to your family. But you shouldn't be if they treat you how Logan did. Or with the kind of neglect Ken has. And also with how he has been recently.
Dude he's his Ex wife, they are not a couple. All she is to him at this point is the mother of his kids. They aren't family, but his kids are still his family and she's barring them from him. Sure, she's somewhat justified, but so is he IMO.
@@SuperCrow02 She’s not barring him from them - she’s making a decision that she thinks is in the best interest of the kids given that the kids are scared, don’t want to go to the funeral and there is an actual riot going on. A parent’s access to their kids is not more important than the best interests of the kids (something a lot of selfish parents don’t seem to understand). But really, it’s not even about Rava, it’s about the kids. Kendall wasn’t there for them and did nothing when his actions were causing problems for his daughter - why should they be there for him not even a week after he refused to do anything for his daughter?
