This is easily one of the most complex and greatest albums ever made. There's so much to digest that there's almost no way to understand it all first few listens. I recommend watching videos which do a great job at showing just how many layers and thoughts went into every aspect of the making of this album, its amazing. Even when you think you understand a song entirely, you can find another thing elsewhere which completely opens up your mind and doubles its meaning. On "These Walls" for example, I picked up fast that the second verse was about the prison cell walls of the womans lover, but it wasnt til later that I picked up that that man was also the man who killed Kendricks friend from the song "Sing About Me, Im Dying of Thirst". That completely blew me away. The fact that hes using his "power" as a "famous rapper" to get back at him for killing his friend by having sex with his lover. This album is amazing and generational to say the least.

Oh, OutKast changed the rap scene forever. They were so open and free with their themselves and their sound in an era of rap that tended to express a harder/tougher side of life. They still go into serious and thoughtful topics, but they really were creative and opened the rap world to what the South can do. They influenced a lot of Atlanta rap, like EARTHGANG. They weren't even accepted by the culture at first, but they gained the acceptance of the culture and changed it forever. They are truly pioneers and legends in their own right.

As a white European teen back when this was released (and even now), this album really helped me to get a sense of social injustices in the US. A topic that was very objective to me was suddenly connected with emotions and personal experiences. That‘s not where this album stops though. I feel like a lot of Kendrick‘s messages a applicable to social and structural issues all over the world, which makes me come back to it over and over again and take new learnings away from every listen. Add that to the personal struggle he describes on many of the songs and I have a hard time finding a more thought out and layered album out right now. I‘m forever grateful to Kendrick for releasing TPAB. Also, really appreciate your reactions. I‘m usually a quiet watcher of yours, but I had to comment on this one 🫡

What I love so much about this album is even the music, like the instrumentals, tell the same story. Like in King Kunta the octave goes up every time he repeats the hook, or how he’s breathing in For Sale because he was just “running for answers”. Just so good I’m glad you finally experienced this

One of my favorite examples of musical storytelling on this album is how Kendrick utilizes rhythm and the nature of the musical measure to reinforce the lyrical concepts on Momma. If you listen to his flow in each verse, a lot of the lines start after the downbeat of each bar and he's also rhyming across the bar line which gives an off-beat/syncopated feeling to his flow almost like it's wandering around. For context the downbeat, the first beat of a bar, is the strongest or most stressed beat in a bar or measure of music. At the end of each verse, the word "home" always lands on the downbeat of the bar which provides a strong feeling of resolution, like you're finally landing at home since he has been avoiding the downbeat a lot and 'wandering' throughout the verse. Just like how in the poem he talks about how he went running for answers until he found home.

I feel like in Wesley's Theory, the chorus (at first I did love you...) is actually him talking about Lucy, AKA Lucifer, AKA Uncle Sam, AKA money in general. He's saying he loved and clung to his fortune, but now he realizes he doesn't love money, he just wants to use it. The bridges he burned accordingly could be referring to multiple things, such as the spot in heaven referenced later in the album.

I can’t describe this album any better so I’ll just copy and paste my comments from Bob’s video 👍: People often use hyperbole when describing music or just things they love in general, but this album is literally one of - if not the most lyrically dense album ever made. It’s hard to even describe how much weight it holds and the amount of meaning it possess. It’s really more than an album. Although this type of praise seems overzealous and even unnecessary, once you go down the rabbit hole of research/ simply listening and discovering the different meanings it’s very difficult to dismiss. While I don’t like to throw around the word “genius” this is an album that could only be made by someone with an astute understanding of the world at large and more importantly themself.

Indeed, this album is one of the most album aver made One thing I find interesting, is how despite how massive of a deal this was, nobody in the game tried to really replicate what kindred put out here. With most big albums you do see some sort of creative uhh appreciation, but this time it was different. Part of it could be due to soundcloud rap rising so much at the time, another could be from how this album is so clearly an assortment of countless craftsmen at their apex, you can't realistically try replicating it without being clearly watered down.

I just love how U works, the beat matches the feeling and energy of Kendrick, the fast pace somewhat angry flow with the more upbeat unnerving beat and when he's starting to break down, the beat is half timed and very slow with simple but drawn out sounds. Its fucking fantastic.

i always come back to this album when i truly feel lost in this world. when i doubt myself or my friends for no reason. when i lose sight of a goal i have in mind or when i'm depressed paranoia and misinterpreting things and motives. somehow this albums makes my mind clear and makes me think clearly and calm my head down and remind myself that its okay to be lost. to be sad and to even get overwhelmed. we're only human, its natural. just gotta keep my head high, and to start loving myself more

You should 100% go through Outkasts discography and give Andre 3000’s feature versus some listens. One of his best verses unfortunately is on a Kanye track called Life Of The Party. I would still very much recommend listening to Andres verse on this song. I don’t wanna say to much about to avoid spoiling it but I guarantee you will like it. Great reaction as always.

This album has so many layers too it, and so many songs on this album strike a chord with me. How Much a Dollar Cost has to be Kendricks best song imo. The imagery he creates and the messages is just masterfully done. That song doesn't even need a music video because you can see it just like he describes. Glad to finally see your reaction!

Path, we are here for you! Not for the correct analysis! I understand why you’d care about getting the right answers but the reason why you’ve amassed this audience is because of 1. Your overall calming vibe, 2. The way you intake and approach your reactions and 3. The care and effort you put into listening too music and making videos. Wrong analysis is fine, we genuinely want to hear how your brain works and digests music that we also love. I also don’t mind either way whether you dig into the lyrics upon your first listen or not, as with concept albums missing 1 thing can leave you clued out of the concept as a whole. Love the video though!

What a journey that reaction was! I can't even imagine how difficult it has been to prepare, record and edit this video. As always, perfect execution, Path!!! Really glad that you manage to pull this off and was able to portrait all your emotions and thoughts on an album that is more than 1 hour long. Also, it was truly inspiring hearing that you came from a very traditional/religious upbring and that's the main reason you didn't listen to a bunch of rap prior to this phase. Surely there is a lot of people that has a similar background and opening up about it is very important to us to realize that is okay to not know all of the metaphors and references of this culture, but to respect it and try to understand is our job as human beigns. Can't wait to see what's next, but, again, congrats a lot!!! btw, you mentioned your desire to expand more on conscious rappers and I think that's a fantastic idea! I would suggest the following albums: - Black on Both Sides - Mos Def - The Low End Theory - A Tribe Called Quest - Things Fall Apart - The Roots - Cheat Codes - Danger Mouse and Black Thought - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back - Public Enemy - Straight Outta Compton - N.W.A

This is the first vid I’ve been recommended of yours. mostly due to the Kendrick diss recently, I’ve just been consuming more music content again recently, and specifically Kendrick and J Cole. When I saw your reaction style I was intrigued so I’ve been watching pretty engaged. The reaction to these walls opened my eyes to the depth of the song, because I just never did a genius dive on that one. When I got to u, I actually started tearing up, because I’ve dealt with depression and understand the point of the song, but just never focused on how good it really is. I think after I finish the video, I’m going to listen to the album again, because it’s been a while since I listened without skips. It’s so powerful, and I first heard it as a dumb 15 year old, so most of the messages went over my head.
