This video is for entertainment purposes only. I am not a licensed appliance repair technician however, I do my own work This video describes how I diagnosed and repaired my dryer after it stopped heating.
-All failed electrical components should be replaced even after a successful reset (fuses, heating elements, motors, etc.).

This is a thirteen-year-old Kenmore Electric Dryer. Model No. 110.66922501 - Type DDOT-ELE-2406028-CV54. This is a Heavy Duty - King Size Capacity dryer. The focus of this video is to demonstrate how to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair an electric dryer that has quit heating. Even though this is a Kenmore product, the brand is owned by KCD IP LLC, a special purpose entity created by Sears Holdings. Also, as of 2017, Kenmore products are produced by manufacturers such as Whirlpool, LG, Electrolux, Panasonic, Cleva North America, and Daewoo Electronics.
The main symptom of this malfunction that became apparent:
-The dryer continued to run as usual however, the clothes were coming out wet and cold.

The following products were used in the making of this video:
Replacement Parts:
*1. Thermal cut-off kit (thermal cut-off fuse kit) This kit includes one high limit thermostat with a limit of 250 degrees Fahrenheit, and one thermal cut-off fuse with a limit of 360 degrees Fahrenheit. The thermostat and fuse help prevent the dryer from overheating.
Part #EAP334278 or #279769 CUTOFF-TML.
2. Thermostat, internal-bias (internal bias operating thermostat) The cycling thermostat with internal bias heater will continually cycle the heating element off and on to maintain a constant inner temperature in the dryer. This cycling thermostat has a limit of 155 degrees Fahrenheit and a differential of 25 degrees. Meaning that the heating element will cut out at 155 degrees and cycle back on once the internal temperature drops by 25 degrees.
Part #EAP11741405
3. Thermal fuse (non-resettable) thermal fuse. This was the elongated white fuse adjacent to the thermostat with the two blue wires.
Part #EAP11741460
4. Heating Element - 240v 5200w
Part # EAP11741416

I just diagnosed that the thermal cutoff was bad on my daughter's vintage Kenmore from your video. And on top of that I smacked it on my desk a couple times and boom! continuity was back. I literally fixed her dryer for $0 Nada. Awesome video and its still totally relevant.

SUCESS!!!! Replaced both the thermal cutoff (2nd time) and the associated 250 Degree Thermostat this time. The thermostat was the original culprit and that's why the thermal cutoff failed a second time. Working great now. That is why they sell them as a pair. Thank you WK for an awesome and concise DIY video. You ROCK!

Great video! This was exactly what I needed in order to diagnose and repair my dryer. You saved me lots of time and money vs. calling a repairman. My only problem came from not taking a picture of the wiring when I disconnected. I was able to pretty easily trace wires back and paused your video to see where they all connected. Thanks and keep them coming! ✌🏼

I just ordered a thermal fuse as I found that mine was bad and dryer not heating, then I watched your video and was amazed how you walked us thru the process of checking what the problem. The best part was at the end when you showed how to reset the fuse. Once I did what you demonstrated in the video I reinstalled it in the dryer and it started heating. My wife was not happy, she thought she was getting a new dryer. BTW, the Kenmore dryer is 29 years old and outside of the door switch this is the only thing that went wrong on this dryer. Thank You A Bunch!

William, I can’t tell you how grateful I am. I watched your video after my dryer stopped heating. I bought a multimeter and checked the fuses, cut off switches and heating element like you showed. The heating element didn’t beep, so I removed it and found a break in the coil! I’m waiting for my replacement part to get here tomorrow and I should be back in business. Your guidance was invaluable and your video was very thorough and easy to follow. Thank you!

Thank You! This dryer is exactly like my mom's dryer which stopped heating, and so she sent me the model number. I bought a kit with both thermal cut-off kit (like you showed), dryer thermal fuse, thermostat cycling switch for $14. I tested the parts disconnected from wiring and only needed to change the thermal fuse you showed because it had no continuity. It only took me 15 minutes, and the dryer works! I cleaned up everything and it looks like the outside flap on the exhaust outlet outside the house caused the backup and excess heat. I reset the old one and saved it with the other parts. Saved us lots of money and time!

What a great video! I've done this before, but it's been about 15 years, and your tutorial is spot on. Thank you for taking the time to record and post it -- I know it took effort, much appreciated. BTW, we bought our Kenmore washer and dryer in 1993 and they are both still working, albeit with a few do-it-yourself repairs over the past 26 years. I'll keep these until they are DEAD and no longer resurrectable!

Thank you sir!!! Appreciate your kind words. Its very true - was a lot of effort and extra work to video and post but I enjoy offering help to others as others have helped me over the years. These Kenmore appliances are really amazing machines. This Kenmore washer and dryer have chugged through well-over a decade of my wife and I doing foster care (fostering over 27+ kids and adopted 5 plus two of our own biological children). The amount of clothes and blankets and uniforms and throw rugs that have been washed over the years are mind boggling. The workmanship and quality are truly amazing and as of today, these machines show no signs of failing. All the Best and hope your machines continue to Chooch along for many more years.

I have a 22 year old dryer Kenmore Series 90. Still ran but no heat.. Your video is excellent....you clearly show what you are doing every step of the way. It was very helpful to see all of the parts that affect dryer's heating and how to test. I had watched other videos and all said first change thermal cut off fuse. Did that and still no heat. Then found your video and after testing all heat related parts for continuity, found it was the heating element. Everything else was OK but ordered full kit for $32.99 on Amazon. Replaced and are now back in business. Thank you.....saved us lots of money, too. Don't need a dryer with wifi.....last time I checked, my phone lacked the ability to remove clothes from washer and place in dryer....!!

Regarding thermostat, testing at room temperature can give you continuity and you will think the part is fine. You also need to check to make sure it turns off at like 175 degrees too. So you need to put on hot plate at 175 and make sure it turns off and continuity stops. Mine did not turn off and was probably the cause of the thermal fuse going bad. It is always a good idea to change the thermostat at the same time you change a thermal fuse otherwise you will just keep blowing thermal fuses if the thermostat is bad.

Hi Mr Kasper. Thanks a million for the hints, especially with resetting the switch, saved me a few dollars! Got the dryer, a Kenmore 110.60802990 (the heater and thermostats in the back but in similar order to your machine). Also double checked and cleaned it for lint that was missed before. Thanks again!!!

In video min 14:08 looks like your heating element wire is ground shorted to heating element case . That will cause heating element to be glowing all times while dryer is running. Hence fuses blow . Please test continuity between heating element wire and heating element case.
@SmokinwithKasket
@SmokinwithKasket 3 года назад
Hello. I looked and couldn't see what you were seeing. I can tell you that I tested the leads and the case for a short and it was negative. The coil did cycle during this test. I'm thinking it was an angle that made it appear the element wire was making contact but I had no indications that was occurring. thanks for watching. I do appreciate your input. Stay safe!!!

Glen here again... I tried your magic trick with the smack-reset, with nothing to lose, and potentially scoring points for effort with my tenants. The reset worked, as evidenced by my Fluke multimeter. However, the fix did not last until I reassembled the unit. Dang. I would never consider the "reset" trick as a permanent fix, for lack of trust in the long run, and I hate rework more than work. But absolutely, worth the try, especially since buying parts these days for the individual is a major challenge. I appreciate so much what you are doing here : thank you so much. Glen Moore Seattle

Thank you for watching and commenting. I agree that if you use the reset trick, you should probably consider getting a new part in the near future. However, I have reset mine once before and that was a couple years ago and it is still functioning. This will definitely get you out of a bind if you’re unable to get your hands on any parts. Stay safe.

Thanks for the well laid out information. One comment I received from a tech when I had to have my timer replaced: he said to NEVER turn it counter-clockwise, because that's what tears them up. Always turn them clockwise.

Thank you for making this extremely helpful video. I bought a used dryer that's very similar to yours but the previous owner did not tell me the timer intermittently freezes on 5 minutes which lets the dryer run continuously. Well I got the unit home and put a load of cloths in it and fell asleep. Won't you know the dryer was on all night! The dryer still works but will not heat anymore. I ohmed out all the parts you talked about and found a bad heating element. Ordered a new one and replaced it within 20 minutes. Thanks again for this wonderful video. I will have to address the timer issue one day but other then that the dryer works great.

I just want to thank you so very much for making this video! I was told my heating element went out and it would be costly to buy the part and have a repair man to install it.. Luckily, your video was next after the heating element one and I immediately testing the parts you said. Turns out it was the thermal cut off and I did buy the set even though it was the back one that was faulty. I even tried to reset it as you said, but no luck. The parts cost the same as in your video and I repaired it myself! My only complaint is; why the hell are the parts on the left side when most people are right handed?!? So, I did struggle putting the bolts back on. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

This is the ONLY video or tutorial Online I could find with a dryer identical to mine. Sure enough, the thermal fuse was not passing current. It continued to blow after resetting and replacing, so I looked at the heat element to see if it was grounding out. It looked okay. Then I started blowing lint out of the vent system with an air hose, working my way back to the exterior vent hose in the side of the house. A bucket of trash and one mouse nest later, I am back in business. If the fuse continues to fail (not sure that is the right word, since it is doing it's job) at least I can keep resetting until the core problem is identified, THANKS TO YOU!!!

Loved your video. I thought I had a bad element. it turned out that I had the same issue as you. I didn’t have the part, so I did what you did at the end of the video and hit it a few times on the floor and sure enough, the multimeter beeped when I tested it. Thank you very much. I had to pull the entire housing out so I could test everything easier. That was pretty easy, though. I just turned it to the left and it came right out. 2 thumbs up!👍👍
