This low carb recipe is from The Ketogenic Cookbook by Jimmy Moore and Maria Emmerich. I followed the recipe exactly and the ketchup is delicious and I will definitely make this one again (until I can get my hands on some fresh, in-season tomatoes). Very keto friendly!

One thing I've learned from making my own ketchup is that the brand of tomato sauce or paste you use can affect the flavor. I thought I had mixed up a batch incorrectly because it didn't taste as good, then I heard about this. I created 3 batches with 3 different brands, and wow did the flavor vary. The best flavor, it turned out was the cheap store brand. I didn't try the brand you used, though. I stuck to cans because they were cheaper. I do want to try this recipe, the recipe I used doesn't stick to food very well (it tastes good, but isn't very easy to use because of that.)

That's is an excellent point! The brand can also change up the carb count too. I ended up using my grocery store's (Wegmans) organic brand of tomato paste.

👍Thank you so much for demoing & sharing this recipe. 🤗💞🤗 I love it. 😍 I’m making my own so I will “know” what’s actually in it. I’m sick & tired of these companies messing with our food adding in unhealthy junk just to make a dollar off of us sheeple. 🤨😔 💡My only modification: I’m using organic cane sugar, honey or 100% pure maple syrup.

For even more flavor try cooking the rawness out of the tomato paste before you add the beef or chicken broth. It's really good.

Hah. We like the British accent, and it serves another purpose: You can't use Alexa to order anything if the voice doesn't match your geographical location. So no accidental ordering of 4000 bicycles.

Thank you for the recipe. I was looking at your red tea kettle and your red sweater thinking how gorgeous your kitchen would be painted red, lol. Sorry, I know that came from left field...I got distracted for a min 😊. I’m really enjoying your videos. I will start LC on Monday. Getting a grocery list together now.

Trader Joe's Organic Ketchup has only 3 g carbs and 2 g sugar per serving That's as low or lower than most low sugar ketchup and it tastes great because it's real ketchup. No artificial sweeteners. Only organic tomato puree, organic sugar, organic white vinegar, salt, organic onion powder, organic spices. It's only 1.99 at Trader Joe's if you have one around. Or 8.40 on amazon.

I don 't have a Wegman's in my area, just Wal-Mart, Kroger, and Brookshires. Where do you find the Swerve sweetener at? Thanks.
@Dot2TrotsLowCarbLiving
@Dot2TrotsLowCarbLiving 6 лет назад
Amazon does carry it -- both powdered and granular. But be careful on pricing. Some folks charge way too much for it. I also know they sell it at Giant grocery stores and Whole Foods.

I wonder if you can add xanthum gum if you wanted it thicker? Does it have any of the beef flavor from beef bone broth?
@Dot2TrotsLowCarbLiving
@Dot2TrotsLowCarbLiving 6 лет назад
It's a thickener so it should work. No beef flavor at all.

If using fresh tomatoes, how many? Just enough to equal 7 ounces after you puree them?
@Dot2TrotsLowCarbLiving

I was going to try a cup of pureed tomatoes -- so about 8 ounces or so.

I like you video and was looking forward to trying this. Maybe my taste of ketchup has not changed. I'm sorry to say but I'm working on this recipe as I type this and its been over an hour and all I taste is a semi-sweet tomato sauce. It's missing that savory flavor that ketchup has and I'm comparing what your recipe calls for to Hughes ketchup flavor. Sorry does not work for my taste buds, taste like an almost sweet marinara sauce. I'm sorry for the negative input, I'm still trying to tweek this recipe with other savory spices.

What about stevia as a sweetener?
@Dot2TrotsLowCarbLiving
@Dot2TrotsLowCarbLiving 6 лет назад
Yes you can use it but suggest using way less than the tablespoon I used as it is soooo much sweeter. I think Swerve (what I use) has about 70% of the sweetness of sugar. If I'm not mistaken, powdered stevia is 200-300 times sweeter than sugar. If you have liquid maybe a drop or 2 would do.
