Since this is about supplement and vitamin video and I was talking about getting those from nature, I did an experiment. As we know, once we go into ketosis, our kidneys release more salt and as you fast and workout the salt depletion gets more rapidly. So the past two days I was getting cramps in my calf muscles and generally (not always) is related to lack of Magnesium & Potassium, but I didn't want to take pills. Did some research, and found out these four leafy greens provide a lot of those two minerals > Swiss Chard > Collard > Kale > Spinach So I went to store yesterday and bought some fresh Chard and Collard and made a nice vegetable soup with Beef Broth, lemon juice, Ginger and Garlic. In less than an hour the cramp was gone and the whole night I slept without any cramp. Summary: Eat lots of green leafy vegetables, and it also cleans your liver as a side benefit too. Hope this helps! ..Ben
I watch a lot of video's on Keto and I must say , yours is by far one of the very BEST! You don't talk on and on and on--- you get right to what you want to talk about and move on. I love it! I appreciate all you do for us. Thank-you from America!
Angelo I have watched lots of videos on the Ketogenic diet. I don't usually comment on videos but have to tell you that your content is useful and provides clear concise information. Hope your channel grows. You deserve it!
I see so many videos that talk about "Ketogenic" diet and eating "All Day" or eating so many things calling it "Keto Friendly". I think a lot of people are really missing the point Ketogenic diet is about giving a break to your system from over/constant eating and letting your body and digestive system a rest and allow it to get ride of all the stored fat and toxins. Ketogenic is about flushing fat out of the body and starting fresh and not about EATING & EATING... :-) STOP EATING SO MUCH!!! :-)
Well said, Ben. That's one of the things Keto helps you to understand, as you get less hungry - there is no need to eat all day long, and you're doing your health a favour by including regular fasting periods (IF or simply by eating a smaller number of meals per day).
I like your channel a lot, because we discuss about the reality of Ketogenic and the art of "Less eating". In a way, Ketogenic diet/life style is very simple and no need to make it complex. Cut the carbs out and eat when you're really hungry. And suddenly you realize, no need to stress out and make it difficult to follow. For example, I'm now eating every 22 hours, that's when I get hungry after 22 hours from previous meal. It started from 16 and the gap just got longer. I think soon, it will be every 24 hours, which is one meal a day. But his came as a "Progression" than force. Angelo, I hope I'm not intruding into your channel. I add my comments, because you pick good subjects to talk about.
Hi, I just started Keto about 2 weeks ago...I'm in the USA...as you know we don't use the metric system - I lost 2.5 lbs in one week. The "thick tongue" sensation has dissipated now and I drink at least 90 ounces of water daily plus herbal tea and coffee at a 1/2 ration of Teechino (chicory based) so I don't get too dehydrated. I seem to have found the correct liquid consumption and I am very happy with the way I feel now. My supplements are magnesium 500 mg 2x a day, D3 2000 mg 2x day, potassium gluconate 550 mg 2x day, biotin 10,000 mag, Bluebonnet Plant-based Omega 3-6-9, and B12 500 mcg 1-2 x a day. I am a former vegetarian/vegan mostly and started to incorporate fish and just recently grassfed beef for the first time...so I'm sure I will be able to back down on the b12 now and maybe reduce the others to 1x a day. I've just been worried about all the saturated fat consumption and how that affects cholesterol levels. Any information on this??? Thanks for all the information!
that's great! We all grew up being brain-washed to believe saturated fat is unhealthy, so that first reaction is completely natural. Start doing some research on your own into the subject (also 'The Big Fat Surprise' is a fantastic book on the subject) and you will soon realize it's a myth with no evidence. Actually, health markers for heart disease significantly improve for almost everyone following a Ketogenic Diet.
Supplements: I take potassium & magnesium in Dr Berg's electrolyte powder especially on hiking days. I also take CALM magnesium before bed. I take Amazing Grass juice powder - the one for immunity, Vital Protein collagen, and probiotics. I was using a pea protein powder but i am slowing down on that and replacing with hemp seed & collagen for kale smoothies. I also use "Real Salt" in most my food.
I like wheatgrass juice powder because it keeps my energy stable and loaded, and bending and moving doesn't cause discomfort. Also it's full of vitamin K. I take D3, and make a shake of lemon, kale, chia, stevia, and turmeric... sometimes with garlic. Thanks for sharing your. regimen!
That would be great - Like many I have been on a low carb Atkins type diet and now trying a Keto diet, sometimes the switch is very confusing because of Atkins emphasis on protein consumption versus Keto's Fat consumption! I lost 2.5 kg and went in Ketosis on Keto in about 1 week but have since not lost any weight - though still in Ketosis - so I am looking more closely at my protein consumption having seen you video on the subject. Thank you!
Atkins placed no focus on the quality of food. Burgers at McDonalds were considered to be fine with the bun even with the processed cheese. Some many difference forms of ketogenic diets (technically even 100% canola oil would be a ketogenic diet), but perhaps thanks to the paleo movement I think that many now following a ketogenic diet are at least trying to eat a whole foods based ketogenic diet. I think the Walhs Protocol is a good example of that.
My list of supplements on a whole foods based ketogenic diet is as follows: Magnesium (any kind except not magnesium oxide)K2 Trace minerals Vitamin D (I rarely take this as my levels are quite high without supplementing) Potassium (I only take this from time to time) Grass fed desiccated liver Creatine Alpha lipoic acid Acetyl L Carnitine Kelp (for Iodine) Chlorella/Spirulina Every once and awhile I'll take the following: Whole-foods based B vitamin complexWhole foods based vitamin C A whole-foods based multi vitamin Digestive enzyme
Thank u ... this helped so much. I've been sluggish since starting the keto with intermittent fasting. I didn't workout for a few days because of it. I also know I'm not getting enough sleep just cause I have twin girls and work at night ..... smh I'll try and do better in that area. For 3 weeks, I've lost 10lbs so I'm still motivated and willing to push through.
Congratulation Tamika. Losing 3.3 pounds a week is great and think of this as a new life style than a quick/short weight loss to stress on. Just relax and don't let the fluctuation bother you. I weight myself once a month :-) For me the best part is how I feel on low carbs, that's worth the process. The weight loss is icing on the cake. :-)
Almost every time I feel sluggish while in ketosis it seems to be from inadequate sodium intake. I chew pink Himalayan salt crystals now and that helps a lot. (quick chew to break them up and then I flush them down with water).
Hi , what do you do if you develop a keto rash after a month and a half on keto diet? How do you treat it and does it come back ? Thank you for your precise and on point channel
Honestly, as part of Ketogenic diet, I take lots of leafy vegetables and other vegetables and I feel like I'm getting all the vitamins and minerals. The only thing I take is Ultra Omega-3 before workout. Real helps your heart's functions. I'm officially now on one meal a day... :-) Love living off ketons.
yes, it's not really necessary to take anything if you eat a well-balanced Ketogenic Diet. I remember that taking electrolyte supplements was really helpful in the beginning though. Yes, high-quality Omega-3s are a great supplement. Especially for people who are not eating wild-caught fish regularly. Awesome, now you're making me jealous of all the time saving with my two meals/day :-)
You know Angelo, after 8 weeks being in Ketogenic process, one thing that is very clear to me, is that, if I go back & forth between ketogenic and sugar burning, it really confuses my whole metabolism and hormone system and how I feel. I'm much better when I simply stay in keto usage and don't spike up my insulin to get into sugar burning. Because every time I get into sugar burning, it takes several hours to get back where I left off, and to me, it's like stepping backwards and have to pull myself back up again.
yes, that's part of the reason why I don't do carb-ups. I always feel much better (a nice fullness, no bloating after eating) when sticking to Keto, so for me it's not worth it to switch in and out all the time - even though I'm not doing Keto for weight-loss.
A little off topic but I was wondering what material your countertop is made of. I think it is very attractive. I enjoy your videos thank you for making them.
Great video! I did not know about the absorbing effects of chlorella. I do use activated charcoal and i was given chlorella tablets by someone who could not use them. Also i am just getting over a 2 week cold, but i forgot i had powdered vitamin c. Will have to put this back in my routine. Thanks.
Great video. I take cod liver oil everyday, along with a probiotic, and a good, whole foods supplement. I also have some things I take for thyroid issues, but I'm hoping this diet will help to heal my thyroid. Thank you so much for this information.
Curious, what is your blood type? In your opinion will a ketogenic diet work for a blood type A i.e. vegetarian/ carb type (Blood type diet) ( Metobolic type diet) I value your input because you are one of very few here on RU-vid giving accurate information on the Ketogenic Diet.
I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about blood type/genetics, focus on the things you can control. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work, but everyone is different. Thank you for the kind words! I don't have all the answers, but I try my best to give honest advice.
This is what I do instead listen to other people said what I need to take for the supplements. I go to my nutritionist to get my hair test. the results shows what I really missing in my system. A hair mineral mineral analysis test reveals your mineral deficiencies and heavy metal toxicity.
colloidal silver and bee propolis are good for fighting with cold; BTW, just because it said ORGANIC chlorella on the package is does not means it's good for you. organic chlorella from China contains heavy metals. please correct me if I'm wrong, I think the most clean and pure chlorella are made in Taiwan and Korea.
+Jessica Fafa thank you for sharing your experience! You're right, Chlorella from China is generally less 'clean' than the one from Taiwan and Korea. For me this one has worked well without side effects, but I might try another brand/country of origin in the future.
If you eat a steady daily fresh vegetables, particularly green leaves, not only you get all the vitamins, minerals, liver cleansing, it also gives you the fiber for bowl movement and also feed gut bacteria which play a huge role in our nutritionist. Fiber by itself is not absorbed by body, however it's food for bacteria. The bacteria eat fiber and then produce many important nutrient to our body. So forget artificial fiber supplement, eat the real thing. :-)
Ben Hayat I know this already, and do eat real fiber. However, I am asking about supplements, to offset specific carbs and balance out a particular meal plan.
Your original question was about "Fiber Supplement" and my answer was related to "Fiber Supplement". Now you say "I'm asking about supplement", changing your question as if I gave you the wrong answer. :-)
I don't think those are necessary if you're eating vegetables regularly. Fiber is way more important in a high-carb diet than it is with a Ketogenic way of eating.
Minimalist Keto While I agree, there are specific times when one would like to offset carb intake. For example; say I have a burger out at some restaurant, and the bun/fries put me over my allotted 50 grams of carbs for the day. I would like to supplement extra fiber, to bring down the net carbs. I was merely asking if you know of any supplements that are worthy. I would appreciate a direct answer, not an argument on whether or not fiber supplements are needed in general. As you can see from my example, there are actual cases when one may be needed.
