Seriously. I don't want to gatekeep abuse because Ive never experienced it and im happy to learn more if anyone has insight but I have never in my life heard of a mother - who is domestically abused by her husband - leave her children with the abuser and not do anything for them or even speak to them for over a year. Then she gets called to the police station regarding her children and doesnt even ask if they are okay? They would not be worried about their abusive husband going to jail (who is already arrested. Its different if the abuser is free bc thats a threat) when its regarding the safety of their children... Im just having a hard time understanding this. I dont doubt that she mentally and emotionally abused him but it doesn't sound like he had an issue with how his kids were being treated. My mom was abused by my dad and she took off with us and got as far away as possible. It would have broken my heart if she had left me behind with him and stopped speaking to me and THEN was more concerned about him going to jail over me being starved

My thoughts too I can see how the pattern of coercive behaviour over time took over there lives, fear is really disabling. but when your response to your kids not being able to sustain life saying bith jodi and your wife are good is a response that bothers me. I just hope he really has changed his opinion of jodi and ruby not just saying that to get out of jail. for some reason there's a distrust of police from this whole family so really asking more questions about the children would be better. I believe this was going on before Jodi's full involvement. It really feels like he doesn't care about the children at all. He allowed Ruby to film those children and monetise content of them doing things that should be kept private(shaving, period talk etc). He allowed harsh punishment for his kids. He neglected them as soon as he separated from Ruby, they're his kids why doesn't he care about them. Even in this footage and any communication we've seen it's so awful to watch him show fake care

I think that's part of Jodis treatment. He needs to look humble and regretful and small to have any chance of getting back on her good graces. Still think he's a doormat and a poor excuse of a father but I've seen similar expressions from other people that have been abused by Jodi, even from the children themselves

I couldn't agree more. I heard the jail phone call and when she said "people will never understand how evil children can be" or something to that effect, he never once said "how dare you, or "that's certainly not true" or "you evil F@@kin c@@t, rot in hell b@@ch. That is why I think he should never get the children, he is a messed up as it that is in prison.

So Kevin wanting to recover the money that Ruby removed from the kids bank accounts to put back in the kids bank accounts is NOT selfish on his part at all. To get the ownership of the previous family home only in his name not Ruby's is also beneficial for the family, and not just him. In fact all the joint possessions between Kevin and Ruby that will now be split due to the divorce hopefully will leave Ruby nearly penniless, with an extremely small monthly sum for her to spend at the jail comminsary. Watching both of Kevin's police interviews proved he knew nothing about the abuse that occured. The cops were concerned for his mental health when he was told his kids had to remain in Child Services care until all details could be sorted out about the abuse and whether he was responsible for some of it. Perhaps because I have seen too much abuse, experienced too much abuse, been blamed not for abuse, but for ruining a relationship, I stand in Kevin's corner on this one in supporting him as I have from the start.

However, I went to a private school & we were taught to repeat a persons question before we answered. It was a way of making sure the questioner knew we had listened, & want to make sure we are answering what was requested. So, in my case, I was indoctrinated to do that. What if I was telling absolute truth...but 'experts' not knowing how I was taught, interpreted everything as a lie?

It could also be a professor/teaching thing. When someone asks a question in class, you repeat the question so everyone can hear it before answering. It just becomes habit.

Let me be unequivocal: Kevin is an inadequate father and should not have custody of his children. However, despite his gullibility and idiocy, no laws consider these traits criminal offenses, like it or not. This is simply my perspective on Kevin. He made a foolish decision by trusting his wife, and the punishment of not being able to see his children is a significant consequence. If you take the time to listen to the second interview, you will discover a great deal of information that explains what led up to the crime. I'm suggesting it because it's evidence of the case.

I think it was about the “pen papers” he keeps asking about in the second interview. The pen papers are what Ruby and Jodi used to document the private meetings they had when Jodi was living with them. I think Pam was in those meetings too. He said they need to find those pen papers, although he doesn’t know what’s in them.

The kids are with their older sister. And Kevin is such a useless father that in the aftermath of this he tried to get his daughter(the one who is looking after the kids) arrested for burglary.

There's no "maybe". That is exactly what they were planning, Ruby's journal explicitly lists that as the plan. Even more nauseating, Ruby mentioned that she and Jodi chose a place far from civilization because her experience torturing her son and daughter had showed her that the (in her own words) "screams and wails" made it hard to carry out their activities without outside interference. I don't watch or consume a lot of "true crime" so perhaps that's why I'm saying this, but Franke and Hildebrandt are some of the most evil human beings I have ever had the displeasure of hearing about outside lessons about the infamous tyrants, murderers and criminals of history.

If you search RU-vid for videos on this case and go to the comments section, you will find many comments from people victimized by this evil thing. Many of them are people whose marriages she ruined but a significant group are children who suffered when their parents took her on as their personal therapist. TRIGGER FOR CHILD ABUSE One of the worst of these comments was a person who admitted that they were urged by Hildebrandt to force their son to live in a tiny crawlspace for months, isolated from the world. It wouldn't have stopped until the boy was completely mentally broken, the only reason it came to an end was because the parent making the comment couldn't take it anymore and refused to continue tormenting their child. And there are more examples that include starvation, isolation and other tortures. This is a serial offender, a criminally insane one who found a partner in crime who is just as evil if not more so.

Chad did live with Kevin for some time but then Jodi (because of course) told Kevin to send Chad off to live on his own because "they fed off each other", referring to their supposed bad/sinful behavior. I remember that so clearly because it struck me just how determined this woman was to break this family apart so she could have her way with them. She truly was like the human equivalent of a parasitic wasp. Also the fact that Kevin obeyed such a ludicrous command boggled my mind, but seemed par for the course for the hollow shell of a man he is.
