These are my ninja tips for understanding how to develop your personal style. Because if you can't all the pieces to the puzzle that are your clothes, and how they work together (or not!) then you are missing out on key information. Improving your style doesn't have to be complicated. This is fashion 101 imo.

Me ready to just learn how to sew because I can’t find my personal style in stores but I can see it in my head. Sigh-

I've been sewing since I was young and I love having the freedom to make things in my style. That's also why I started. As Gabrielle mentioned you do need a lot of patience especially when starting out but I'm my view it's worth it.

Not me having a eureka moment at my wardrobe at why a skirt I SHOULD love isn’t my fave because it’s a bit too cool toned for me AND has extreme structure and severe lines, and why I love a neutral pink dress because even though it’s less warm than the rest of my faves, the linen fabric and short cut with ruffles matches my soft gamine type and natural essence. It’s all coming togetherrrrr

Yay for your comments about color! Yellow undertones make me look like I have fatal kidney disease. Blue undertones work. I always thought I could not wear brown but deep, rich, browns with blue undertones work. Even bright, pure yellow can work - the yellow on the color wheel that is not mixed with anything. Color is fabulous! Yes to proportions video!

THIS was the single most helpful video ever. I do not understand my clothes and what they are saying to the world… this was incredible. I’d like to see more about this. Specifically, I would love to see a whole video about texture and prints. What do certain embellishments say? What prints work for which type? What does the scale of a print do? Are prints always more casual than solid colors? How can I wear colorful prints and not look like a giant couch cover?
@audreyandrea460

Your questions are worthy of serious study and they are an integral part of the discipline of fashion design. You may be interested in checking out some books in the design section of your local library. There you’ll hopefully find books on things like the history of pattern-making, of ornaments, etc.
@hattyhide7544
@hattyhide7544 5 месяцев назад
Your questions are brilliant. They had me evaluating where the gaps in my knowledge are. I’m also particularly interested in how to wear/combine loud or colourful patterns with other design elements… without - as you put it - looking like a couch cover 😂

You just keep on giving! You’re a literal angel sent from heaven to save my style illiterate soul. thank you. And yes to proportions video!! maybe you could include tips for ladies with long legs and super short torsos? high waisted pants just emphasize the short torso but low rise looks just as awkward on me. mid rise is the best solution I’ve found but I’m wondering if there are any other tips I don’t know of for dressing with these proportions... I’m a dramatic so I know I’m supposed to keep my shirts on the longer side too, which sucks bc it feels like everything in stores these days is cropped. :|

Great video😻 At 4:53 about the ”background space” I didn’t understand. Halp🙋🏻‍♀️
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 2 года назад
Ok, I wish i could add an annotated picture to the comments but I'll do my best to describe. In the far left look, if we look at the seaming and the pockets we want to look what type of space is around those shapes. The pockets (because they are the same color as the garment) don't create a loud statement and the garment as a whole doesn't create a lot of contrast- it's giving it a more classic silhouette. Then there is the pink dress with the red flower focal point. Because the space around that flower is open (no obvious seaming, prints, trims etc) but the flower shape is a different color than the "background" pink garment, an obvious focal point is created. Whereas the first look the pockets don't create a focal point (same fabric, no obvious shapes created). And then if we move on to the far right outfit- the busy print, the shape of the fuzzy collar, it basically creates "zero" background space because everything is "competing" (not in a bad way) with eachother. So it creates a more bold, trendier look. Is that a bit more helpful?

Could you do a video where you go in more about the things/space around in the outfit/clothes? I mean the part from 4.50-5.00. Also the part where you talk about how the contrast can manifest in different ways and especially prints? I mean part 8.45-8.50. You only briefly covered it now but those are actually tings that aren't talked about often but can make big differences.

Fellow FN T-Rex in a tutu here 🙋🏼‍♀️ I’ve been binging your videos and really enjoy them! Question: I had a hunch after this video that the pieces I’ve been struggling to wear/style in my closet are lightweight, and that’s absolutely true. Any tips for styling lightweight fabrics as a FN? They’re items I like and don’t want to give up but am struggling to style them! Thank you so much!!

Yes proportions please! I’m a shorty so petite would be nice :) or maybe a little on proper fit of clothes? How to know if it fits, or to go up or down a size.
@Gabriellearrudadesign

I plan to include both tall and petit in the proportions video- and how to look at the balance of your outfit/body. And that could be a cool separate video- udnerstanding the fit of clothes and tell tale signs your clothing isn't fitting as well as it could, Thanks for the great suggestion!

Hi Gabreille. Yes you explained everything perfectly. I have never thought about those type of points but they sure make sense. I am a warm True Spring theatrical romantic with Type 1 / 2 in Dressing Your Truth. David Zyla calls me an Early Spring Playful Princess. Joh Kitchener says that I am a lively, bright youthful Ingenue. I am trying to narrow all of this into a mature, sophisticated and elegant wardrobe. I have a lot of de-cluttering to do and I don't want to throw items out that I will regret later. Yes a video on proportions would greatly appreciated. Also what is your height and Kibbe type? Thanks for the great videos.
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 2 года назад
So I have a couple more videos up that might help- one on essences and how to integrate them (the last section of it might be helpful) and the closet building video. Also the proportions video is up! I think it’s great you know all your IDs/descriptions, now it’s just about expanding that knowledge together and building the wardrobe you like/that reflects you. I’m working on an example video about blending all the systems that should be out at the end of may. My kibbe Id is a bit debated if you look at my kibbe video comments. However, I identify as an FN. I’m a bit over 5 ft 6 🥰👍🏻

I think I might be classic but I also like a bit of drama lol. But growing up I have always been told less is more on me. I always look thrown off in busy/large prints or moderate to heavy makeup. As I get older I find myself leaning more towards streamlined natural quality clothing and love monochromatic dressing. My features seem balanced as described. Does this mean I’m a classic?

were you a fashion student before? could you teach me kibbe body system and how to see silhoutte, shape, and everything? I want to learn from you. I am typed as a FG and find it difficult to undertand line breaks and how to accomodate that in my outfits. I am also kind of having a hard time to develop my style. But, this is not a personal request. I want to alleviate the same burden of choice that each FG feels in my indian community. They unwittingly wear lines or shapes of Natural or Romantic body types, our clothing is not meant for gamines but I want to learn what is, in order to alter our clothes accordingly. Would you find it in your heart to help me with my mission?
