The clutch was acting funny when riding the king the other day so I decided to pop the cover off and see how dirty it was. Man I'm glad I did, it was filthy. Hope you enjoy.
informative and thorough video! It was very helpfull especially the part about waiting for the "click" when putting the primary back on! Who would have known that? I am handy but little details like your video has make the difference between learning and confidence vs destroying and frustration!
Awesome job & video Benjamin!! Now I can save some money and change mine when I need to!! LOL And as far as me being your biggest fan that will NEVER change because I have been since you first open your beautiful brown eyes and took your first breath!!!!! Anyway when I need to learn how to do something, I want it to by with someone who does things right and I trust 100%...that would be my boy!! Keep the videos coming!! Signed...Your Biggest Fan, Mom lol
I have to do this on my 09 king quad 400. Thank you for the video. Mine is slow taking off but once going she is good. So im thinking the clutch is muddy. Great video.
Thanks really appreciate the comment. I have a Radio control car channel but couldn't resist loading this video because I couldn't find one anywhere and was tired of the thing lurching off the start. Hope it helps you out. Definitely helped mine out and has a smooth engagement from a stop.
@@BuyitBreakitFixit mine is so sluggish when you first push the gas. Im rebuilding the motor on my kodiak. The mud in that clutch was crazy. Hard packed in there. How that thing was able to even move is crazy. But im loving the learning how to fix this stuff. Hard to find good videos on this. For both wheelers. So again thanks.
I tool off My dam secondary clutch to clean it, and not its not letting the belt fall between it now. It's riding half way in and I can't even get the belt on. It's like the secondary is completely tight.. What did I do wrong here?
Thanks for the video fella. I'm about to buy a 2011 500 and it seems to take longer to engage the clutch and take off. Almost night a parking brake sticks on until it's moving. Never owned a belt drive atv so videos like this are golden.
Thanks so much, really appreciate you taking the time to comment. This is my first belt drive also and couldn't find the video I wanted, so I made my own. Hahaha
Just do you. Whatever you are comfortable with. Be yourself. I make it a challenge to convince negative commentors to turn their comment into good. You got this, just film a video that you would want to watch. Good luck!!
@DavidM-dg5ep hahahaha, sorry for the misunderstanding. Yeah, I just dove into into it. I am decently mechanically inclined, so I thought it would be ok, and it was. Good luck.
I just bought a 07 king quad with 914 miles/ 142hrs , is that low miles for that year? It runs great should I check the clutch an clean it with that amount of miles? Is there a requirement matiance schedule on it. Thanks great video
Thank you, hahaha great video! i finally found ONE video that explains it all.. BTW you make the whole video sound like a regular guy that didnt feel like doing it that day lol.You sound like every other guy that wasnt in the mood to do what you had to do...Great video
Thanks man. Yeah, I was disappointed to find there were no videos showing this. I have a RC car channel but before getting into those I decided to do this video. Kinda crazy how everyone says the same thing. Glad it helped you out. Btw, I am just q regular guy that didn't really want to do it. Hahaha thanks for the comment.
Wonder if this is the same problem as mine king, brother has a grizz and gf has a brute are touchy as hell soft touch they get going and you give the same touch to the king it just revs up and it feels like your pulling a heavy trailer when your taking off
Not sure. I did mine because it was acting like there was a stall on it. The engine would need to rev up before the quad would move then when it did, it seemed to jump. After cleaning this, the engine didn't need to rev as much and the engaging is smoother so I figure it helped for sure. It is an easy job, might as well take it apart and clean it up, not going to hurt. Especially if you all are submerging the quad in mud or water.
Hey bro was wondering if you can help me I have a 98 Suzuki Quadrunner 500 4 X4 it's a semi-automatic and it seems like it's doing the same thing that you're having a problem with when I shifted down to put it in neutral if I hit the lever it doesn't click but if I hit it down a couple times it'll finally click into neutral or I rock the bike back and forth and hit it down it'll click any suggestions
Buy it Break it Fix it I have a manual coming in the mail I'll wait till it gets here before I start cracking stuff open the bike only has about 500 miles on it it's sat for awhile thanks for the help
So I'm having problems with my quad going top speed after a weekend of mudding. It wouldn't go over 36 mph and sounded like the rpms went up but speed didnt.so when I took it home I tried i again and it went 60 and did the same thing. Still missing about 12 mph. I took the case off and it wasn't wet and it looked dusty in there but belt looked fine. What could the issue be if it isnt the belt? My rear end did drop deep under water and I pulled the drain plug. Hoping it isnt something serious. 2016 kingquad 750
Man you are a lifesaver I thought I was screwed up s*** creek without a paddle I was replacing the belt you know how you would check everything you know and I was sliding that front clutch in and out making sure everything was working properly and those little round weights fell out of the little slots and now that I watched your video I'm going to go out there and take it off and do you what you said to clean them up real good is each weight the same
I am so glad I could help. I tried to fund videos about it and couldn't find what I was looking for. Had to try to help others out. I'm not an expert on them but I will be honest about what I do learn. Thanks, I appreciate the comment.
I have one little question do you have to put grease in the primary clutch where those little round wheel weights go and do you have to put grease inside the housing of the primary clutch or that sleeve goes back in I guess that's what it's called
No grease on the weights or where the weights go. From my research, there is a small hole in the sleeve, they say to fill the hole with grease, that's it. Seems like not enough, but that's what I found on it.
Problem im having is that when i go from low to high it makes like a creekiny noise while forcing itself to push back into high. It sounds like a door creeking and the back end squats down and the bike barley moves while im giving 2k rps. Once pops in it drives perfectly normal. When i go from high its also normal. I dont even know if it has anything to do with my clutch. My rear diff fluid is clean as can be too.
Man, I wish I could help you out on your problem...maybe check the shift linkage and make sure nothing is bent. I have only done light maintenance to mine, so far.
it is because you are braking when you come to a stop before you shift, it just drives the belt deeper into the sheeves, perfectly normal, they all do it. Try and coast to a stop or gently brakeing and you will notice that you wont hear the squeek
Hey man hoping you could help if your still active Everytime i get water up to my rear the it struggles to switch gears I can get up to 10Mph on my 500AXI but not faster the rpm revs but no luck. then with sometime like a day or two it starts to drive fine. U think water is getting in? And if so how bad is that
Yes, it does sound like you are getting water on the belt. take the side cover off and check the gasket. mine is done and needs to be replaced. on the inside piece that the cover screws onto, there are grommet screw holes and mine came out and will not seal anymore. I think there is a drain somewhere back there too. Check to make sure it is not going bad and letting water in. I would also check the routing of the plastic tubing and make sure it is all tight too. Hope this helps you out. I know how it is to have your quad not running the best. try those things and I will research it a little more for you. Let me know how it goes. There is a website for these, not sure if you know about it. Here is a link, check it out. Thanks for checking out my video. www.nyrocatv.com/
Dude...only vid I could find that showed well what I needed to do. Thank you...only thing wasnt sure of is what did you clean parts with? Did you use any type of lube on parts?
man, thanks so much for watching and commenting. I used regular grease to lube stuff up. Although they only recommend greasing the tiny hole in the shaft that slides over the crank. small little hole doesn't take much. Glad I could help.
Man thank you for taking the time to show the assembly in detail. My son has a 07 suzuki eiger 400 4x4 and he broke his belt. Well got the cover off and maybe there was some strings left from the belt and i also notice that those weights was moving all over the place.Maybe if i can clean it all up that will be good. How long will that last or should i just buy a new clutch assembly ?
@@BuyitBreakitFixit Its a automatic. Just normal high low neutral and reverse. Also his the display panel doesn't work.I haven't checked any fuses yet but just trying to get as much info on it as i can. Thanks for replying back. My son is 12 and we leave on a farm so he's been at me to get this fixed and i really don't want him on my 850 brute force cause its just to much for him.
@@briantate122 no problem. If you are on facebook, join a group, I have the best luck in there with fellow owners. I am sure your son is excited to ride. Hope you get it going, let me know if I can help any further.
I messed up and pulled my belt off just hoping for a belt change but I decided to do a clutch kit while I’m at it but I pulled the belt off with the primary still on and now I can’t get my primary off because it spins when I try to bring the bolt out and I can’t get my old belt back on. Do you know anyway to get it off
Are you using an impact gun to try and get it off? Is the primary the front? If so you can put the cage back on and use a bolt to go through a hole on the primary and the cage will hold it from spinning. There are a couple holes in the outer that will take a bolt.
Neither. It felt like it had a stall to it, engine revs then bam, it kicks in hard. Poor transition from stand still to moving. This made a big difference in starting and out on the trail when it transitions back to a lower ratio.
4046miles which is 6511km, I believe. They are very good machines. Main issue with them is the charging system. There is a fix, just can'tbremember off the too of my head. I have been meaning to figure it out and do a video. I will try to do that
@@BuyitBreakitFixit ok nice to know . We got some 40 000km honda rubicon to go fishing and hunting.. these are undestructible.. but rare. and want to explode at 80kmh... i still wtb something nice .
Jeff McCadden thanks for watching my video. I hope it helped aside from the missing torque specs. the bolt was torqued to 80 ft lbs. thanks for watching.
Could be the head gasket. Is there any water on the plug or coming out of the exhaust? If head gasket is suspect, you can do a compression test on the cylinder. If it leaks down, you know its the head gasket. If not then you might have a crack in the inside case.
@@BuyitBreakitFixit Actually no it's a CVT drive, it has a CVT drive belt and transmission pulleys and at no time does the drive belt disengage or slip unless it's worn out. I see a lot of RU-vidrs referring to it is a clutch belt probably confusing it with a clutch drive belt on a go-kart or lawnmower for instance where the belt disengages from the drive by mechanically loosening the belt tension.
@pdevonport doesn't it slip constantly until throttle is applied and it flexes and finally grabs and provides motion to the pulley for the rear end? Or as soon as you put it into a gear, it would start moving to the comparable throttle.
it is called being smart. when i wear gloves I don't have to worry about any chemicals on my skin and usually don't have to wash my hands. something I was taught when I was a mechanic but nice attempt on that, kuddos. once you wear them once, you will never go without.
