I can't believe that this game got hated on back in the day. It's a really good faithful remake. Just fantastic detail and animations, even today. I'd love to see KQ 2 and 3 in this style.
I was having trouble with triggering the condor. What I discovered is that you have to do that one last in this remade version of the game. Best to do the Dragon second: use the ring to steal the Mirror THEN turn visible and use the bucket on the dragon so you can follow it out. The Condor typically appear if you do that.
I still can't believe this version bombed. I mean... look at these graphics! Look at these animations! The old version is utter CRAP, compared to this! And you thought *today's* gamers were crazy!
Jstryker, hope you're still well 3 years later, but I have to be a bit blunt. Codename: Iceman, Space Quest 3 and Police Quest 2 all were out at the same time and visually looked a hell of a lot better than this release of King's Quest. It looked like someone used Tandy Deskmate's Paint application to draw the backgrounds, to me when I first played this back in 1991.
@@bigdrew565 Aside from a recent small kidney stone that I currently have yet to pass, yes. I won't pretend that the KQ1 remake was better than those other games, but it was still a vast improvement over the original KQ1. For one thing, the witch's candy house actually looked like one - unlike in the original, where it just looked like a regular non-edible house. Plus, it was cool to see animations, rather than just text messages and characters disappearing afterwards. Also, not only was the gnome's name puzzle made easier, but climbing the beanstalk was also MUCH easier to do - as it should be. After all, if you do the work to get the puzzle right, you should be rewarded for it, not punished.
@@bigdrew565 I didn’t think the graphics here were really that bad. I thought this remake looked a lot better than KQ4 which used the same graphics engine. There’s much more dithering and shading here. I always found the backgrounds of KQ1SCI to be very bucolic and enticing.
@@jamessparkman6604 I'm not even sure that they had them on further review. Depends on what kind of deal Roberta Williams made for herself as author of the Kings Quest games with her own company and the successors. As it goes for the videogames, Viviendi sold everything to Blizzard/Activision A few years ago.
