(UPDATE: since making this video I discovered even more reasons I like the Kioti better! It has 2 cab air filers and the Deere only has one, the rear outer 3 pt controller, and I can change screw on filters for the hydro fluid, trans oil filter, HST oil filter and fuel filter is a simple in line..)
After having both a John Deere 4720 and a Kioti NX6010 I decided to get rid of the John Deere and Keep the Kioti. This is an unscripted, straight forward comparison of some of the options that I really, really like better on the Kioti compared to the Deere. I did not remember to hit all the differences, but I did make the last 2 slides my comparison notes on paper which does hit about all the differences that I've found.

This is how RU-vid helps us all - I find someone who produces enough videos that you can get a feel how he thinks. Was only lightly thinking about getting a smaller tractor (now that the big stuff is done and I am moving the big one to another property). Going to look up a local dealer today and see what they are like.... (it's OK she just leased a nice car)

The NK60 is almost as large as my main tractor ( Ford 9030 ) - looking at the DK4510 HS - must say the access to service items is outstanding . . . . also the salesman seemed very into the Kiota even through they carry several brands

I'm retired now and have about 13 acres to maintain; over the years I've collected two JD's one the 110tlb and the other is a 5200. I was considering selling the 5200 and picking up a used 4720 with a cab for neighborhood snow removal, garden prep, and bush hogging. Now you guys have me thinking out of the box. I appreciate the information

Well, just fyi I was as objective as I could be and I owned them both side by side. Deere is a good product, but it was much more expensive for sure. Do a Little research on Daedong from S Korea.. I was impressed.. Now, as far as longevity and trade in, I can't comment on that. Although I took a beating on selling my 4720.. I believe that Kioti is where Kubota was 20 years ago; they are still very much up and coming. I've also used a Kubota once and did not like how it felt overall... Good luck, whatever you decide! I'm not sure if the 5200 is a cab or not, but I definitely recommend a CAB, no matter what you buy :). It will cost more, but unless you live in California or some very stable, arid climate you will truly enjoy it much more with a cab..

Thanks for the excellent video. I love your honesty and straightforward talk about what you liked and didn't like about your tractors. I may eventually be forced to buy a small tractor for our farm and these are the things I need to know about when I do finally go shopping. It is nice to be able to learn from others so I am not forced to learn expensive life lessons the hard way.

It really does make you wonder though, like car manufacturers, does Deere (and others) build machines to actually limit anyone's ability to do most basic maintenance??? I know from reading tons of literature on Kioti (a lot from South Korea, where they were created) that they actually built ease of maintenance into the overall design.

Also got a 3rd function remote and a W.R. Long grapple. The grapple weighs 803 pounds so I wanted a very strong loader to handle both it and the grappled load (e.g., heavy logs, big piles of wet manure). That loader is built out the wazoo and can handle the stresses.

That was a great review. I'm sure the manufactures are building machines that are difficult to repair on purpose these days. I have a 2009 Yamaha snowmobile and the engine has to be removed to change the starter. It's an 8 hour job costing about $ 1,500 at the dealer ! I have a 94 Yamaha snowmobile , the starter can easily be removed and replaced in 30 min. The old 70's MF tractor we have can easily be repaired by any handy person.I can't imagine having to load and trailer a tractor to the dealer every time it breaks down or to do a simple oil change. What a hassle !
@kapperoutdoors

+Mark Bow Thanks Mark, yes, I believe that same thing. When I spoke with the owner of the Kioti shop he told me they've specifically built them with owner maintenance in mind. And it shows for sure. It used to tick me off with the Deere sometimes at how it really felt like they've never done much 'real world' testing, because it only took me a matter of hours to come up with what would have been simple, and effective changes! One of the big things that I forgot to mention on Kioti was the outside lever to raise/lower the 3 pt. DAH.....!! Seems so simple (And I use it all the time!), yet Deere couldn't figure that out?? I've heard though lately that Deere is working on some of these simple things...

If you look at the Swedish Homestead, you will see that Simeon got rid of his big tractor and bought a Kioti - mostly for fuel economy and four wheel drive. His brother bought a used Deutch air cooled tractor (66 hp) about 40 years and less than 3,000 on it. They also have something I have never seen - a four wheeler with a hydraulically driven four wheel trailer. Really handy stuff on a small farm. Since I am not a farmer and have a VERY BAD back I downsized when I retired to 1/10th acre. It is surprising what you can do on such a small piece of land!

nice comment. as for "bad back", consider that your leg muscles directly effect the back…often muscles contract in places and do not release properly… I pulled my back and got a "rumble roller" and 2 "miracle balls"…both really inexpensive and use gravity…as soon as I worked on legs the back felt 100x better...

This is my second ..., maybe third time watching this one and after seeing others also saying similar things it looks like my purchase ideas have changed from buying a Deere to now SERIOUSLY looking at the Kioti brand. The cost difference alone stands out but also the quality of build and engineering. A running joke with some of friends that all own tractors say the John Deere green paint is 15% to 20% more just for the color. (None of them own a John Deere) Really looks like Kioti took the time to think things out pretty well. Thanks for the video, it helped me. You made some good points from real experience, that means a lot especially when you didn't just bad mouth Deere like so many others do, all your point were valid and speak for themselves. yup, looks like a Kioti for me, boy if my father-in-law were still alive he'd end up having words with me over this one, hahaha, oh well. Again - Thanks! Nice review, well done, good points.

I bought a 2014 Kioti DK45se new and have been very happy with it. Absolutely zero problems! All I've done is change the fluids and filters and lube it. It is simple, solid, and has good weight for a 45-hp tractor. Very little plastic on ir, just the dashboard. Came with all sorts of essential features (like a loader) that you usually have to buy a high-end tractor to get or pay extra for. I learned only after I bought it that the DK series legendary and is built almost to construction-equipment standards. The Koreans know how to build a good machine.

Love my kioti hst dk40se! It’s a tank, looked at the green, the other orange, blue, a few reds. The grand L kubota was the closest match (does have a nice trans) but still feel the kioti was a better machine. And I already had a kubota. I haven’t had any issue since I’ve owned it (2014). Would definitely buy again, fully loaded deluxe tractor. To bad they don’t make this same model, as far as I’m concerned, it’s the best tractor they ever made.

I've run them all and everyone has a preference. I agree with you one you really work a deere big or small they give problems and aren't the most user friendly. I own a fleet of kubotas now after going through several brands and it came down to kioti and kubota and we do not have kioti a dealer within a 2 hour drive. A kubota and kioti have a lot of similar features and not have a problem with either one. On a side note a friend of mine has a off name farm pro from China or Korea but it has survived over 7 years and over 5500 hours almost repair free. So it's all in taking care of your machine and what suits your needs the best

I don’t think any John Deere compact tractors come with a recirculating air-conditioner option. I know the brand new top-of-the-line 4066R doesn’t. Mahindra doesn’t have it either. Kabota does and I’m assuming Kiote does as well to make the AC cool better. Recirculating the cabin air instead of pulling hot dirty air from outside.

my experiance with korean made cars is they make a very good product and are inventive as they come up with nice ideas, they base their components on other manufacturers or use them, so their tractors should be ok, trouble is with JD like a lot of machinery manufactures is they re-badge their small equipment, the JD engines in small tractors are known to be hand grenades, but don't abuse the Kioti as i have seen the front diff parts break as too weak, and use the clutch on the shuttle or it will need a tractor split to fix it.

I went to look at a Daedong which are associated with Kioti, thought to have been used to move wrecked cars around, was bought by someone i know, both front hubs had to be replaced, $3000 each, the casting is not strong enough, shuttle needs fixing so needs tractor split, it had other non major issues. horses for courses.

Factors to keep in mind. When you had the Deere machines you worked the hell out of them and then when you sold them you got money. That won't happen with a kioti. It's not worth anything, so you'll have to run it until the wheels fall off to try and get your money out of it. Just keep that in mind when comparing. Also, when you break parts on that machine you can wait and order what you need for it. You will not be walking into your Deere dealer and getting your parts or having them there the next day. Parts.... that's what Deere does best. Lastly.... if you had taken the money you spent on that you could have had something like a John Deere 7600 that would run smooth over all three machines you mention without feeling them. Compact tractors are the worst value there is.
@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors 8 лет назад
no, I definitely don't agree based on my actual experiences. First of all when I've had to order parts for the John Deere it is taken up to several weeks. Ordering parts for the Kioti took only a few days, as they have a huge Warehouse in North Carolina. as far as the resale it's yet to be seen. as far as getting my money from the John Deere if I factor in all of the extra service due to breakdowns in the same amount of time, I took between a 30 and 40% loss on it. And buying the compact was already at the edge of my budget so a bigger tractor is out of the question. Plus, I won't go with a shuttle tractor and the compact is the largest Hydro that they make. To me the shuttles are unsafe to operate especially in steep hilly Terrain when you are doing work on the edge of a drop off. I have no idea what resale or trade in will bring later on, but thus far it has outperformed the deere and cost me a lot less. Of course that could all change with more use, but we will see. Thanks for the input though as I have nothing against any of the other manufacturers.
@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors 8 лет назад
Nicely said.. That was yet another thing about the Kioti compared to the Deere, was that the Kioti had more Beef. It was heavier right out of the gate, (I always load tire no matter what) and with the wider stance, I feel a lot safer. I'm up to about 370 hours on the Kioti and only ONE breakdown (the loader handle cable), compared to 3 or 4 at this time on the Deere. (Oil leak, water pump, rear hydraulic wouldn't lift mower deck, hood replacement, broken antenna x2(Kioti mounts theirs lower on the frame to keep it protected)). So far, I'm still extremely impressed with the Kioti... Lets see if I'm still there after 500 hours, but somehow I think I still will be :). I try to stay as objective as possible...

All these people thinking that John deere small tractors are actually American made. No, JD subcontracts them out to Japan, Korea, India, or Turkey. Just like every other manufacturer not already based out of one of those 4 countries. Hell, mahindra subcontracts their smaller compact tractors out to Japan, iirc, despite being in India. Kioti, among others, claims to do final assembly here in the US, but i'm not sure what that entails. Dealer usually installs tires, so probably a bit more than that. How much more I've no clue.

I was a mechanic for a local John Deere dealer and the newer tractors have plastic hoods and fenders which I don't care for. I have had to replace so many of them. Another thing I don't like is the DEF. It is very expensive when it comes time for maintenance. And they tell you not to park in the barn because they create so much heat. I have been looking at the Mahindra tractors and I like the fact that they designed an engine that doesn't require DEF and meets the EPA standards.
@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors 8 лет назад
Just reiterates my point! My new Tier 4 Kioti does not require DEF fluid. It does have the regen, which has not been an issue at all.
@Rdrake1413
@Rdrake1413 8 лет назад
Yeah the DPF is better than DEF but you still have the periodic maintenance of the Diesel Particulate Filter and extra fuel to maintain. Mahindra engines don't require either DEF or a DPF. And replacing a DPF is very expensive.

@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors 7 лет назад
I can't give you pricing on my exact rig but I can say that Kioti is still significantly more affordable than Kubota & Deere, and has way more standard options than either, and it will have more standard options than the others as well. You should do an 'apples to apples' comparison with all options you want/need that is really the best way to see what you get for your money. I don't think you'll be disappointed with a Kioti to be sure. My Kioti dealer down here is very competitive and can ship anywhere... Tell him I sent you.. But from what I know Kubota is a great tractor also, but it will be WAY more expensive. I remember now looking at those too..

Well that size is much larger then what I'm considering. But I got a quote yesterday for a kubota L3301 and a 60" brush hog. Ball Park $26,700 and Larry stovesand has a pick 5 deal with the 3510 for the same price... so $3K to $5k price difference....

I have been looking at the Deere. I do like the heat And AC vent setup better on yours. I did hear Deere had issues with the AC not keeping up on there cab tractors, But the new 3 family tractors they said they addressed that issue. Can't go wrong with A cab, Would be nice to be warm And dry.
@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors 7 лет назад
Well, if they fixed that issue that would be good. Nothing wrong with Deere, just you'll pay much more and actually get a little less in the way of functional options. And yes, if you get one, go with a cab! I know its quite a bit more, but if it is hot, cold, snowy, rainy, windy, humid, weedy or any one of those where you live, you'll like it :)

I seen that on the JD website when I was tractor hunting. What the hell is a 3 family tractor? Its the dumbest thing if believe Ive ever heard. I don't understand the logic behind taking a tractor which is independently owned vehicle and labeling it like a yard sale to define its size.
@steiger256
@steiger256 7 лет назад
mattsbrute I don't understand it either. They replaced the series for example the 3720 was replaced with A 3046 And labeled A 3 family . I seen them first appear at the farm and science review, I told the rep for deere they should have left it the 3000 series. 3 family is just strange.
@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors 7 лет назад
steiger 256 I found those same issues when I was researching my 3520 & 4720. The 3 'series' is basically a more 'economical' line, then the 3000/4000 is a more 'robust' line with more options and hydro trans.

Not a farmer, don't own a tractor yet. But what you are talking about here is what happened to the US auto industry. Entrenched interests and very few engineers making the critical decisions. When Toyota and Honda were newcomers to our markets, their Gov'ts subsidized the products. The companies were largely run by engineers (unlike today). Hence they made a better product. Look where Ford and GM are today. You are looking at the future of any American manufacturer that cheapens their product. There is just too much competition. Sad.
