You`re so smart. Every time I open one of your video`s I learn something. That little trick you did - turning the pastry over and peeling off the backing. Blew me away. Yay!! no more wrecked pastry bottoms or tops for me thanks to you. Really, Thanks!!

Thank you Charles, lots of practice. I’ve been using a pie maker for almost 30 years, way before they were “discovered”. I’ve picked up Lots of tricks along the way and am delighted to share what I’ve learnt. If it helps owners to get the most out of their new appliances, then I feel very happy. I really want to help people experiment and enjoy the benefits of owning a new appliance. I hope your enjoy it as much as we do. Thanks for the wonderful Feedback and for watching.

Hello from the WESTCOUNTRY UK , we eat a lot of pasties here but never seen sweet corn or peas in them. It’s just meat,swede,onions and potatoes with a good amount of pepper and some salt.. The traditional Cornish pasties don’t have peas or sweet corn either. But I am going to give it a try as they look delicious. I am going to even miss the meat out and add cheese instead . Love the videos .

Thank you very much for your feedback Barbara, especially letting us know where you come from, just looked it up, you come from a very beautiful part of the world. Thatched roofs, lush countryside, coloured houses and pretty seaside towns. On a map I noticed there are quite a few towns have the same name as many of our towns here. Australia was settled as a Penal Colony and we had lots of English criminals and free settlers here back in the 1780’s, they brought with them skills and traditions from back home and towns were named after many towns they left behind. Our climate wouldn’t cope with thatched houses, we do have a band of rural areas right around our coastline peppered with cities and towns whilst our interior is desert. Sparsely inhabited, containing lots of native animals, found nowhere else in the world. We are a nation known for eating pies and every bakery has its own version of pies, sausage rolls, apple turn overs and pasties. Growing up before McDonalds came to town there were fish and chip shops, local hamburger joints and the odd Chinese restaurant. With the influx of the post war migrants we now have every cuisine you can imagine available most places. The choice is huge and deciding what and where to eat out is confusing at times. Much of our local offerings have adapted to suit our climate, seasonal availability and price. Mums keen to increase the families vegetable intake have smuggled all sorts of vegetables into so many traditional recipes, so much so that few are recognisable from the original. As no recipe is set in stone, except the ones that have been patented to a region so they must be labelled something else to avoid legal problems. We happily substitute, include or leave out ingredients to suit ourselves. I’m Delighted you enjoyed our version of the humble pastie even altered to be cooked in the pie maker. So you see there isn’t very much authenticity attached to recipe except perhaps the resemblance to shape. Your inclusion of cheese will be a lovely addition and make the recipe suitable to our vegetarian viewers as well. It’s a tasty readily available source of protein and an economical alternative to meat. Good for you for adapting our adaptation to suit your personal tastes. I hope you are staying safe and well and we would love to bring you lots more interesting recipes to inspire you get creative with the old recipes as well as the new trending ones. I really appreciate your comment and thanks to you, I have learnt a bit more about a place I’d not heard of and would very much like to visit if I get to your part of the world, post Covid. Thanks for watching;-)) Greetings from New South Wales, 🇦🇺 Australia

Thank you Lucy, we are staying in place and caring for our little grand daughter, her school has been closed so we are home schooling her in safety. She is a real nature lover who thankfully likes to cook so our time is divided between the kitchen and the craft room, which has become our makeshift classroom. Outdoor play has been hampered by frequent rain showers. I am trying to maintain an upload schedule by editing once she has gone to sleep but she has so much energy, I have been going to bed early myself to prepare for the next whirlwind day lol. I’m glad you like this recipe. We are keeping safe and hope you are able to stay safe and well also. Thank you for your kind well wishes, lovely feedback and for watching.. All of our restaurant and cafes are either closed or only offering take out meals. Everyone who has never bothered to learn to cook or doesn’t enjoy it, are now finding it necessary to prepare meals for themselves now, my hope is, by watching us, they may actually enjoyed meal preparation and hone a new skill in cooking. Everyday is a good day and this weekend promises to be filled with yummy food, lots of fun activities and plenty of giggles.;-))

@@CheekysKitchen The little ones are so filled with happiness and joy they keep us moving . Things are the same here next week I have to go out for supplies , it has been 18 days I have not been out .

That is a long time. Is it possible to have food delivered? I know many people are opting for this solution. I have a very well stocked pantry and 2 freezers. Many home preserves and some fruit trees. It is hard being unable to go to the playground or shops but we are keeping busy and entertained. We are off to brave the cooling pool water, I fear it will be a quick swim but we are going to make the most of a break in the weather. If you must go out dear, try and stock up on staples that you can use for a while and reduce the need to leave the house too soon. Stay safe.;-)

@@CheekysKitchen I have 2 freezers and my earthquake supply for 3 months , I am low are laundry soap , that s all I really need .
@CheekysKitchen
@CheekysKitchen 4 года назад
I forgot about you needing to have an earthquake supply. I used to live on a farm, quite a way from the closest town so we had to be fairly self sufficient. We had chickens for eggs, cows for milk and meat and a pretty good orchard. Old habits die hard and although ‘town’ is a lot closer now and things are more accessible I still tend to keep a very good supply of everything. It’s the little things like laundry soap and other cleaning products I’m more likely to run out of because they are bought in bulk and not as often, sometimes I even skip a shopping aisle because I think I’m ok for those things and then get home and realise that was the last can of deodorant or the last of that great big box of dishwashing tablets or something and I try to never ever shop when I’m hungry, I’ve bought some really ridiculous things to ‘try’ when I’ve shopped before lunch lol. Lessons well learned lol. I wish someone you knew could just drop some laundry soap off to you, to save you going out. I would hate for you to get sick, these days are becoming quite worrying. You sound like you have very well prepared and responsible. If more people were more careful and considerate this dreadful thing would not have spread with such ease and speed.

Thank you for this wonderful recipe. I have been living in Germany for many years now, and I miss my pasties and pies. Luckily I managed to buy a family pie maker and so lucky I stumbled over your youtube channel. :D So nice to hear a fellow Australian talk, too. The pasties are in the maker, filling tastes fab and they look so great, I cannot wait to get tucked into them.

Good for you Yvonne, delighted to help. The family pie maker is pretty hard to get hold of, you’ll be cooking up a storm in no time. We have been having a real fad on German food of late, what a coincidence. I know on a recent trip to the USA (precovid of course) I hadn’t heard an Aussie accent in over a month. When I did, it sounded so strong, I didn’t realise how unique and recognisable it was. We have gazillions of Pie maker recipes and sausage roll maker recipes on our channel, been doing them for decades before the pie maker was ‘discovered’ if we haven’t made your favourite yet.... we probably will soon. Thanks for the fantastic feedback and of course for watching. I’m glad we could send a little bit of Aussie across to you in Germany. 🇦🇺 🇩🇪 Hope you stay safe and well and enjoy your Pastie!;-))

@@CheekysKitchen Pasties were really tasty and came out really good. Will make them often from now on. I was really lucky to purchase the large pie maker, it was the last one and 1/3 of the original price. :) I will be trying your apple and walnut cake next. I love my cake and it looks so simple to make in the large pie maker. I bought a sunbeam 2 mould piemaker about 30 years ago when I was back in Australia, but it's a lot easier, if you can make more at once, and not having to preheat the oven too.
@CheekysKitchen
@CheekysKitchen 3 года назад
Absolutely. My sunbeam pie magic four still works after 30 + years of constant use but the costing has started to fail all at once. Same thing happened to my sunbeam waffle iron at the same age. I think the coating is only meant to last about 30 years.which is a shame because it’s still works fine. I made a few meals for one in the family ie maker and it’s great for that. If I were to travel around staying in motels. I would take it to save having to buy takeaway all the time. Omelettes, quiches, toasted sangas all work a treat. Even heat up cold pizza. Bacon and eggs, sausages and my pork and peaches meal. So quick, easy Wipe clean and a good size. You’ll be seeing lots more from this little fellow when I get back home from my Tassie camping trip.couldn’t bring it because we only have solar and gas for cooking. Didn’t stop being from baking banana muffins and a fluffy soft chocolate cake on the beach in my new omnia oven from Sweden. I can’t wait to share those recipes too when I get a chance to edit them. I bought a stove top pressure cooker to make soups and casseroles on the track. Been a great bit of kit so far. I’ll try and bring you some lovely Tasmanian scenery to help you keep us in mind Downunder.

@@CheekysKitchen That would be great! Never managed to get to Tassie. I tried, but unfortunately there were big fires going on and people were coming from all over the country to try and help. Also the sailing regatta was taking place, and there were big storms, people were sinking, so all the flights and ferries were booked out or cancelled. :( Bought a Cake2go machine, maybe I can try your sausage roll maker recipes in that? Maybe you could have a look online for me, if it works for that? www.hse.de/dpl/p/product/427719

Thank you Wendy, these Kmart Family pie makers would be perfect for Calzones. We have an Apple Turner version coming soon. This Pie Maker is new to me, I actually bought it the week before it dropped to half price (always the way lol) unfortunately I have absolutely no experience with Kogan one, haven’t even seen one. Hopefully some of our viewers may be able to help you with a review or at least some information regarding that brand. I am pleased you found the recipe and tips helpful. Thank you very much for watching and the feedback. All the very best of luck with your search to get your hands on one, I know you will be surprised at how really useful they actually are. What delightful feedback Wendy, Thank you! We are only too happy to help. The pie maker is such an easy to use appliance, it’s light weight, very easy to clean, quick to cook with, doesn’t take up much room and is so cheap to buy. I have been using one for decades and am surprised it has taken this long to ‘take off’ and become trendy. Let’s see if we can’t find some kid friendly recipes to encourage your kids to get into cooking too. Stay safe and well! Thank you for your kind comments.;-))

This is nothing like a Cornish Pastie
@CheekysKitchen
@CheekysKitchen 3 года назад
This is made with cooked ingredients, non traditional vegetables are added, no Swede added (out of season at the time of cooking) and thickened with flour, cooked in puff Pastry, wrapped in baking paper and jammed into a Pie Maker and cooked 8 minutes. Of course it’s not a Traditional Cornish Pastie, the internet is filled will variations of the ‘Authentic’ Cornish Pastie. Using raw beef, potatoes and Swedes, wrapped in thick flaky pastry with a very thick fold which was used as a handle and then discarded by the filthy hands of the coal miner that is was baked for hours for. I have never cooked a portable meal designed to be eaten underground by workers with dangerously contaminated dirty hands. I have made a meal here in a matter of minutes with lots of veges smuggled in for today’s fussy eaters that is cheap, easy and fast to make with a delicious taste, a distant cousin of the true Cornish pastie cooked in $29 benchtop pie maker appliance. The method used will help stretch ingredients further, thus helping today’s budget conscious families. The tricks used here can be utilised in making any sort of turnover, both sweet or savoury and will inspire pie maker owners to get the absolute best and most use from their pie maker. The extra veges add texture, colour, nutritional value and interest using seasonal vegetables. At the time of posting (quite possibly still the only version of this concept) I believe it was the first pie maker ‘pastie’ recipe and method available to view. I invented this recipe for my viewers and to date has been appreciated and well received. I don’t believe the word Cornish is trademarked and to assist viewers to find this simple and truly original recipe to be able to locate this version for inclusion in their own families menu, if they wish. I do the experimenting and recipe development so my viewers don’t have to. Available for free and I always encourage my audience to adjust my recipes to suit their personal preference, families dietary needs and seasonal ingredients available, to suit their budget. No recipe is set in stone and that is why there are so many versions of every recipe ever invented available in both books and digital versions. I hope that helps you to understand my take on this very very old recipe, modernising it and making it available for families to try in their own kitchens. I thank you very much for your feedback and for watching.;-)) I hope you are having a Fabulicious weekend!😉😋

@@CheekysKitchen Well if it isn't a Tradiional Cornish Pastie then maybe it is best not to call it a "Cornish Pastie". It is just a 'Pastie'. I grew up in Cornwall and people there will laugh at you if you serve that for lunch as a "Cornish Pasty" The Cornish people are very protective of the name and recipe of their pasty. Maybe because so much of their traditional way of life has already been lost. You will also find that the traditional Cornish pasty has 'protective status'. Which basically means that you cannot play about with the recipe or even the area and call the pie or pasty you have made a 'Cornish Pasty'. I was even told off for attempting to alter the shape when leaning how to cook them. So how about calling your pasty/pastie/pie the “Cheeky Pastie“ . It looks delicious even though it is not Cornish :)

Hi Catherine r, no she doesn’t normally live with us but due to her school being closed because of the current isolation situation she is staying with us to keep safe, isolated and well. We are home schooling her and enjoying her curiosity, boundless energy and thirst for knowledge and experience. She will probably be involved in and influencing our recipe uploads as we share cooking, nutrition and baking skills with her. It is a wondrous world for a 5 year old and a new situation for us all. We hope you are staying safe and well as well. Thank you for watching.;-))

Thank you very much Catherine, we live in a semi rural area so we can go for walks and swim without having to interact with anyone. We have pets to play with. We have planted spring onions, cooked, crafted and learnt about the pyramids, hibernation and how honey is made. We have been on the river in a boat and even crossed a river on a car ferry ....twice. We are going to learn to finger knit, crochet and paint some outdoor furniture. We can talk to our parents on FaceTime and are understanding the virus and the importance of hand washing, without being exposed to the actual potential graveness of the situation. We love to play in Nanny’s mini kitchen which takes as long to tidy up as a full sized kitchen after our ‘mixing’. I don’t know if your children have seen our Miniature Meals RU-vid channel but they might find it interesting because it’s actual real tiny food cooked in a 1:12 scale working mini kitchen. I’m not advising anyone to park a child in front of a screen but small doses of interesting things can stimulate thought, conversation and can lead to another learning platform or acquiring a new skill.
