I truly believe the two of you are too smart, wise, thoughtful and conscientious for short form. You guys are thinkers...deep thinkers. You go beyond your immediate feelings and really discuss issues and listen to other perspectives. Short form is solely for the "respond emotionally only" crowd.
It’s so true, short form doesn’t do their personalities justice. I didn’t realize I would like them this much until the podcasts ❤ so amazing seeing your perspectives and visions for the future
I am soooooo tired of Mikayla. I'm a very small beauty reviewer and I get suppressed for my honesty. It's people like Mikayla that make it difficult for the little guy to succeed in the community
She’s just straight up disgusting 🤮 over the top and annoying. Anyone that knows anything about makeup will never look at her videos, they are so obviously paid. Unfortunately this is what people like, and also the people you sell to, are like her 🤷🏼♀️ It’s all strategic.
The fact that Johnny's natural state is Trevor from the skits is my favorite thing 😂 I know we love glam kevin but comfy johnny is also everything ❤ can't wait for the home content i just moved into my 1st apartment
Kevin I saw you yesterday at the mall and I kept lurking weirdly around you but didn’t want to interrupt you. You looked amazing and thank you both for being so iconic kind and honest! Sincerely, the rando hijabi awkwardly staring at you from the next aisle over 😭
I’m a straight woman. I realised about women hatred in primary school when nobody wanted to pick girls for teams, and how they treated more “feminine” boys. Long live the flamboyants!!!!! Femininity is right, femininity is correct! Thank u for having that conversation, we are in this together 💗
I have a 3 yr old little boy who sometimes wants his nails painted and wants to wear an Elsa dress occasionally (and we oblige, of course!). He told me yesterday he wants his ears pierced (didn’t oblige that one yet, lol). He also loves trucks and dinosaurs. Sometimes it hurts my heart to think about whether the world will figuratively beat that other side out of him. School can be hard and mean. I so hope he doesn’t lose that curiosity to explore all the sides of himself. So many little boys get punished for wearing a princess dress. I live in a community with dads that brag about berating their sons for playing with Barbie’s. My oldest daughter is dealing with the repercussions of (very) toxic masculinity right now while she’s starting to talk to boys and deal with the fact that the world has told these boys that they’re only manly if they’re playing and lying to every girl they meet. It breaks my heart. As a woman with a girls and a boy- it’s unfair to them ALL.
Are you seriously acting like you actually WANTED to be on the teams to begin with?? You're saying you *didn't* enjoy hanging out on sidelines with the flamboyants, playing with make-up & scrolling through social media?? You femininity wasn't "hated," most other kids knew you wouldn't want to play in a very masculine physical activity anyway and you would've RATHER been hanging out with the 'flamboyants.' Everyone wins. What's the issue??
Literally the only ones I trust with product recommendations. I’m a single mom I can’t be buying all these boo boo products other influencers be pushing. They always spot on
You already know that s*** is about to get crazy when you are drinking tea instead of alcohol. 😂💁♀️☕️ Every episode of Beautiful and Bothered will ALWAYS be viral to the fam! 💜😘
Bare, as a woman, when I first heard The Sentence, all I has to say was "duh, yes, yes they do" because that is a realization I had long long ago. And in reality, it applies to so many other areas and across so many demographic groups.
Why don't brands have a contest with "influencers" with a million followers do make up on top models, photograph them and give a year long contract to the winner. Only the pictures of the models can be voted on by the judges. No one knows who did the make up. They could do all the models to see a clear winner. I think you two gentlemen would not only have a fair chance, but you would scare the competition to death. Let's even the space .Great marketing all around for the brands , influencers, venues and viewers.
So would it be like influencers competing against pro makeup artists? I think that would be amazing. I love that idea for a show! Kevin and Johnny would be fantastic for sure! I have a few influencers I would be interested in seeing how they do. Not only with their skin color but those of different skin colors. With influencers they know what works for them….but I don’t see them practice on anyone else. So I would be interested in seeing how they do. I won’t lie, there are so many thoughts popping in my head and I have nothing to do with it. But I love the idea! I honestly do!!!
This is actually a FANTASTIC idea for a show... I would actually watch that! I have hated everything new on TV & movies for 4 years, but that kind of show would make me watch again!
Ooo next controversial clip idea: telling boomer men/dads that they’ve been on board since day one with drag since we know they all love Kiss, Twisted Sister, etc. would love to see it 🤪
@EmpathyForTheWin yea she's right. I'm GenX and I'm turning 49 in the fall. Then there's the older GenX 5-10yrs older than me, so just turning 60. The window for X is frm 65-85 b4 65 you have your boomers in their 80s now, after 85 your millennials. As far as I remember, GenX was the rave scene, new hippies, Extacy, fashion, house music, acid music, drum n bass, the British invasion part duex, brit pop but also alot of us delving into our parents record collection's so maybe a few kiss fans in there maybe? But for the most part, people normally seem to forget about us, and that's the way we like it cos we get away with murders while everyone blames everything on boomers or millennials, so shhhhh! 🤫🫣😶🌫️😉😅x
@@DeeLite220 hi! I said boomers since my dad is obsessed with these bands and is definitely a boomer! Of course any age of people could love these bands.
But to the OP I don't know if that would work in UK tho, back in boomer times one of the main entertainments for pubs were drag queen comics! And they were good! I think still in some parts of London in a cockney eastend pub, you will still find an old skool drag act turning the air blue!! 😅
I found the whole ' people hate femininity' convo so interesting. It's the first time I'd thought of it that way. For years I've argued that things should not be classified as masculine or feminine. I'm a straight cis female, but I love cars and many other typically masculine things, but I also work in beauty and look very feminine. Noone should be boxed into masculine or feminine because of the things they enjoy or identify with. A straight cis man should be able to wear make up if he wants to without it being questioned. So I loved hearing your take as I think its another take on the same underlying issue.
Exactly... we need to do away with the oppressive notion that we need feminine only & masculine only spaces. We need to literally & figuratively break down walls! 🤜🏼🤛🏼
I just wanted to say thank you for addressing how-to's with mature skin. I'm 48 and I used to really be into makeup in my 20's. I stopped wearing it (other than powder foundation and lip balm) since having kids. I absolutely love that I found Johnny and now have rediscovered my passion for makeup, especially lip balms/glosses. Many other mua's only cater to young people and young skin. Love you both, thank you, thank you.
As a lifelong Kiss fan, they actually did well with the Glamlite palette. Each member of the band is associated with a different color and so they ran with that in the color story of the palette. The Demon = Red, the Star Child = purple, the Space Man = blue, the Cat Man = green
I bought it because same-been a kiss fan since birth thx dad lol I just noticed the color coordination 🤦♀️ I was looking at the columns instead of the rows! I've loved every palette I've bought from Glamlite and I started buying them because of Kevin and Johnny! I love them!
If a PR trip was advertising a new sunscreen, I'd have it written into the contract that the influencers had to wear the bronzing sunscreen and follow it's instructions, eg apply and wait 20 minutes before going into the sun, reapply every 2-4 hours depending on whether it is waterproof or not. Also, doing Slip, Slop, Slap so they are being sun smart. Kosas would have won brownie points for actually promoting sun awareness and responsibly being in the sun. In Australia, we are taught this from the start of schooling because our sun is brutal on skin.
So true, Eleanor! I always have those "Slip, Slop, Slap" jingles running through my head when I put on sunscreen even now haha. In Australia, applying SPF is a necessary public service announcement and should totally be provided to visitors as they touch down here. Might be able to avoid the tourist lobsters then 😅
I love your no hat no play slogan for kids too. ❤️ and oh yes your coffee. In the US I say it’s as good as Australian coffee, especially off the little coffee vans.
@@Teneal9 I do ponder what education is given to tourists as they enter Australia. It is a known issue amongst pharmacies in beach tourist areas that their strongly worded recommendations of sunscreen instead of tanning oil will be ignored, followed by customer returning with second or third degree burns seeking relief. The aloe vera and sorbolene sales in these areas are fuelled by stupidity. The sun will kill before our animals will (but still don't mess with our animals 🤣).
Australian sun is no joke. While I didn’t burn, I literally had to jump 7 shades up in foundation in order to match my skin, when I got back. It’s crazy how fast you can cook there!
@@eleanorchan872 Absolutely! I always feel so bad for the folks newly arrived from Europe, Canada, or other northern places who just want a nice day out at the beach 😅 I've had my fair share of horrendous sunburns as a young and stupid teenager to empathise greatly haha (and, sadly, the skin cancer to go with it)
Johnny, when you said People hate femininity, you weren't lying! I have two sons in their forties. When they were in high school, they started to call guys they preceived as weak "p*ssies". I really took offense at this and tried to get them to stop. It wasn't about it being vulgar so much as it was saying something awful about women. Women are weak, women are less than...Hell No! Feminine doesn't mean helpless, useless, or weak. Straight Men have to stop thinking that way and straight women have to stop perpetuating that kind of thinking. Love you two! ❤️
Thank you, B & B community! My mom, Kathy, is holding steady with all of our prayers. Please continue to keep her in your prayers. If you or someone you love is having belly pain, bathroom habits change suddenly, put on 3 or 4 pounds a day, please go to the Emergency Room. Do not allow a doctor to blow you off. If I had known this, I would have had my mom in a year earlier and her ovarian cancer would not be compressing the vena cava and all of her digestive organs. Please talk to those you love about this uncomfortable topic. Awareness is so important.
hugs for you and your mom! and I'm so sorry. misogyny is so dangerous for us still in healthcare. if a doc is blowing you or a loved one off--take someone with you! Our word SHOULD be enough, but as it is, having someone to back us up and verify/clarify things can help! especially if you're not confrontational or you tend toward storytelling to explain things.
You are absolutely right! I thought I had a bowel obstruction and had concerning symptoms and was totally blown off at the doctor. She literally told me people are obsessing about thinking they have cancer because of Kate Middleton. I told her to write on my chart that she refused to refer out for further tests…which she didn’t like but oh well. Anyways, I’m getting a second opinion next week.
@wplants9793 OH! That makes me SO happy to hear how you handled that situation! Good for you! My mom's doc told her to drink more water and take fiber pills. We know our bodies. I hope you get some answers! Praying for you.
30:45 sorry, had to pause to say that the video you guys did with the Lipstick Lesbians was the most eye opening and, in my opinion, vulnerable, I’ve seen all of you on this podcast. The funny times are always awesome but to see you all talk about the things that mean something to you and that others (might) need to hear was so refreshing❤. Idk. Yall are so loved by my WHOLE house (and we’re a “traditional” family -mom, dad, 2 kids). Keep being you! … now I’m going to resume the vid lmao
DEVIOUS! You two are a delight and thanks so much for your authenticity and joy, respect for yourself and audience to maintain being genuine and not just taking advantage of our built relationship and trust to sell us lackluster or products that you don't sincerely love the quality or experience of (IT IS CLEARLY OBVIOUS and makes all the difference, if not now, for sure in the long run and also in your own integrity and reputation) This podcast is such a fantastic time with you that I really look forward to weekly (and hopefully with either more episodes or weekly content to come) - so excited to hear B&B is getting noticed and that its just onwards and upwards from here, endure and keep rising!
I love how Johnny phrased it as "people hate femininity" and that really got me thinking. Thank you for having that difficult conversation. Love you both 🥰
As a woman your points abt the hatred of femininity were actually really eye opening to me, I had never really connected those dots and I really love you guys for for advocating for femininity because I’ve always been confused by such misogyny and you just really cleared up a lot for me. Keep working hunty diva queens
For me, the most telling thing about the Kosas sunscreen is that I can't see any retailers stocking it in Australia yet. Australia has some of the highest standards for sunscreen in the world because of how harsh the sun is here and the fact that we have the worlds highest rates of skin cancer. This means that it's a shit sunscreen. Not surprised people got burnt on that trip
kevins makeup is so INCREDIBLY PRETTY, i always see him in bold makeup that the “natural” boy makeup is so stunning and beautiful!! love the duality 🤭🤍
Kevin IS gorge today! Those lips! And I just want to reassure you--it's spring. Spring, much as those of us in horrible climates look forward to it, is wretched. Spring brings out the crazy just like the full moon. I'm holding on for dear life until mid May. And your rant on short form content is so spot. on. Everyone wants a social media medal for being outraged about everything. It exhausts me. I'm too old for this bs.
My husband was nearby when y’all were mentioning going viral and how it was just a tiny snippet of a long intensive conversation that included folks afraid of feminine- he was like I’m not afraid. I told him that’s the point - a snippet vs the entire conversation and it was how many people are afraid of feminine presenting and it is taken as less than or weak. Once I stated that he was like “yeah that is a valid point”.
I love what Johnny said about femininity. As a woman, it resonates. I’m surprised that anyone would argue that our culture sees women ( and our distinguishing factor is femininity- (hello - FEMALE) as weaker - women were the chattel property of men until early into the 20th century. Her children body, possessions all belonged to a man .. UNDER LAW… I remember in my lifetime, I’m 40, turning on the news, and hearing a debate on whether or not a woman could even be president. After Al our emotional instability would probably destroy the country. 😂You don’t have those kind of debates because you don’t see us as the weaker sex. 😂😂😂
I remember the thing about female presidents and I'm English! We had a female Queen and a Female Priminister but I bet somewhere in the world, in some dark n sticky comedy club there's a man doing the old "Can you imagine a female President on her period with her finger hovering over the nuke button, mascara running down her cheeks and red wine stains on her teeth! No sir, I don't trust nothin that bleeds for a week n don't die!" Now if Johnny had said that?! 😅
I was one of the straight women watching your Lipstick Lesbians podcast whose jaw dropped when you dropped that truth on us, Johnny. I'm sorry it blew up like crazy, but you're so right. A fear of the powerful feminine energy lead to hatred and repulsion. You're so smart, dude.
Kevin's tanned skin with the pink gloss looks absolutely fantastic - total Ken from Barbie vibes! I absolutely love the idea of y'all doing a makeup police segment on yourselves - I audibly gasped when Johnny brought it up because I liked the idea so much lol. I'm going to Ulta to swatch the new morphe palettes because I LOVE how the rosy palette looks.
Johnny's little "how do you not have diarrhea every day" at 17:08 literally had me on the ground. Totally understand you're on the brink-- and I think I am too!!! Love you guys! Great episode as always! 🫶🫶🫶
So as for patreon extra, monthly lives, maybe discord channel, makeup tips, makeup extended reviews, Q&A. I’m so excited y’all are going to do a patreon because your audience would love to be able to help support you creating content.
It’s so weird. The times I’ve lied in my life it’s like.. ruined my life.. lol. Like it’s destroyed my sleep, my mental health, etc (and just to be clear.. as a former drug addict, I did my fair share of lying.) I hated it. Lies feel awful and do damage to everyone. But then again I wasn’t making thousands off my lies, maybe money makes the lies less hurtful (being sarcastic)
As a 49 year old cis straight woman, I totally connected with the comment Johnny made about femininity. I don't think I would've understood or agreed with that comment in my 20s, or even early 30s. As the mom of two teenagers (one AFAB and one cisgendered) I totally understand the comment and the impact it has in todays world. You're completely right. I understand it now on a different level. I've never though about how it might affect gay men. Thanks for making me think! I love you two.
Johnny & Kevin-just want to say how much I appreciate your intellectual, important convos surrounding brand trips, going viral, etc. When I hear you articulate your thoughtful opinions, it makes me realize I’m with my people. Thank you BOTH♥️👏🤗
If any brand wants to test a bronzing SPF they should come to the UK now. We live in the warmer part and we haven’t had a wholly good day since September. The product would have looked fantastic 🥴 Johnny you are right, you were right. People are terrified of women, it’s why it is so difficult to get past a certain point in our careers 🤷🏻♀️ and a million other obstacles. I’m sorry that the TikTok people got you wrong. RE brand trips? You keep doing you, though yours is the only channel that I consistently trust to be honest.
@theoccultlibrarian5386 Don't forget James Welsh, Robert's Twin! He does the skin care and is genius! They also have a twin channel and a tentative podcast with their older brother Marcus! It's a riot!! 😊
Before purchase or pass section First, sending you both hugs. People suck and you guys didn't deserve the negativity. Second, Johnny you did give me an aha moment when you stated that one doesn't hate gay men, they hate women and overt femininity. I find that when I dress more feminine in pinks, pastels, or other colors the lean feminine that no one takes me seriously at work. My entire work wardrobe was change to more male leaning colors. It all made sense. Especially working in tech in the Bay, the "good ole boy network" is still alive and well.
With all my heart, I can’t thank you enough for acknowledging the ongoing genocides because it deeply matters, while being a beauty content creator who GETS IT and uses their platform to discuss a myriad of really important topics! I can’t find the words to express just how much this means. I adore you both! 💛
For Patreon, I would love, LOVE, *LOVE* a spreadsheet of your makeup opinions! A place I can go to find information on all the makeup with comments. Like a spreadsheet with comments. So I can see all the setting sprays, go to the column for matte, and find the best one for mature skin. That would be amazing! I see these every week and I don't remember the specifics later and that would be epic!!! I would also love if you reviewed older makeup. Purchase or Pass is great, but I'd like to also love to see Keep or Toss. Where you review staple makeup and say "this is great" or "get rid of this, it's been surpassed by everything". You can also do "How do I replace this...". Some products were amazing and were discontinued. I'd love to be able to find a dupe for dead products! Lastly, I'd love a "Dump It" list of products that are either dangerous (asbestos comes to mind), or so bad they should not be in your kit.
@@beautifulandbothered I'm absolutely thrilled you saw it! And I love your show to pieces :). You may see my comments reach back on every video as I'm doing my best to boost visibility for this amazing show :). And my mom and her friends are lurking around here. So love to them if they see me!
So funny enough, I found you guys on tiktok! Prior to that I didn’t know who Johnny was but a clip of one of your earlier podcasts came up on my fyp a while ago and I wish I could remember which video it was but whatever it was you two were talking about must’ve had me intrigued bc I’ve been watching/following you both eversince! And I even back tracked episodes I missed out on prior to finding you. You have a viewer & fan for life!! Xoxoxoxo to the both of you. One of the very few people I can trust in the online beauty space 🫶
Kevin & Johnny, I hope you protect your mental peace & health. Dont pay mind to what random people judge for 10 seconds. You have real supporters here who are interested in having mind oepning conversations with you. Stay strong & grounded💖✨
Wonderful episode as always! Would love if y’all did a makeup police episode for yourselves but also for audience submissions, maybe the latter could be patreon exclusive
I’m sitting here, 2 weeks away from an exam that I feel like I’m going to have to delay (which I’m gonna get charged $200 for), cramping, bleeding, an emotional mess, and you guys are my comfort podcasters. I just feel so seen and heard, yet also learn so much every time ❤ you guys are amazing
SCREAMING CRYING THRROOWWWWIINNNGGG UP FOR THE PATREON! I commented asking for it a few videos back and I'm SCREAMING that y'all are actually doing it. I'll literally listen to you guys talk shit for hours but it would be so cool to see more MUA experience content! I'm new to freelancing ( worked in store for ages) and am starting up my kit and it would be cool if you guys did a freelancing kit video and talk about the products you'd have/ tips on saving space etc. I currently have the RCMA foundation palette but would love to hear if you guys have any other MUA palette recommendations for complexion stuff. And just generally content about MUA stuff like tips, how you guys deal with people trying to take advantage of your service and ask for more than they paid for etc. THANK YOU THANK YOU AGAIN IM UNBELIEVABLY EXCITED
Kevin being a charmed one is EVERYTHING that use to be my show and i would watch it all the time with my mom. I wonder who your favorite sister was❤ sucks the new version isn't as good.
As a guy who's just getting into skincare and makeup, I just wanted to say I appreciate everything you do SO MUCH. Your content is entertaining, informative, and hilarious! I find myself relating to a lot of what you have to say. I look forward to each new episode!!
Adding myself to the list of women who had the penny drop about the fear of femininity being shared between us and gay men. That episode really hit for me, thanks for all the hard work guys ❤
Holy crap!! I saw that short-form clip and had no idea.😮 I thought it was one of your best episodes. Plus, I thought for you to have that revelation at 12 years old was brilliant! I am 52 yrs old and it was a light bulb moment for me You guys are awesome and there is so much more love for you both here. I can't even 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️Peace, please!
The both of you have had such an impact on me! I can’t properly put it into words, but suffice it to say that you’re both beautiful human beings, internally and externally. Very, VERY real. And I’m here for it. Thank you!
I just wanna say that I really appreciate your integrity Johnny! I know it has to suck to turn down brand deals when you could be making so much more money but it's so nice that I finally found someone online that I can trust with recommendations. You deserve you much more recognition than you get. I hope you know your fans love and appreciate you so much!
I clearly missed all the Mikayla tea, esp bc the last i heard here y'all had a positive relationship. But happy to be back and on that note: i find all the new launches super overwhelming esp as someone with medium dark skin, its hard to figure out which stuff to skip entirely. So. Content idea. You review what a lucky subscriber already has/uses and what issues they might having and then make recs as to what they should replace or try! Love the pod and your honesty!❤
This has become my comfort show! I have this on in the BG at work while the weather is NUTSO bad, and it’s helping keep me grounded and happy, despite the literal tempest outside! Thank you guys for all you do!! 💙💚💛💚💙
I usually listen to/watch these on Spotify with my daughter, but I had to jump over here to comment! My 13yo daughter has Kevins exact hairstyle and it does that amazing pouf naturally. But she always tries to flatten it down a bit because she thinks her friends will think it (and she) is too much. Seeing how FABULOUS Kevin looks made her proud of her hair and I can't tell you what a relief that is for me as a mom. Obviously a teenager doesn't listen when her mother says she is beautiful, but when she gets to be twinsies with an absolute icon it boosts her like nothing else. So just... Thank you for being you.❤️❤️❤️❤️ XOXO from Finland 😘
30 seconds in an Johnny says "power grip douche." 😂 Having grown up in the 70's and 80's, when douche commercials used to be on TV regularly, an image of what that commercial would look like, immediately popped in my head and now I have a whole ad playing my head. 😂
Just hearing this after having seen the Lipstick Lesbian episode. I remember thinking at the time “preach”. I love you guys and how honest and real you are, you were just speaking the truth and I’m so grateful for BB!
I didn't know about the going viral thing but fully support you and your experiences. Thank you for sharing and being vulnerable. I tell everyone how awesome your podcast is!
Both of you are 🔥🔥 Kevin have fun in Aruba! And I'm so glad you guys are talking about all of this and are so authentic. You guys have always been so YOU. And it's super refreshing. Love you both! Thank you for another bomb ass episode! ❤ Also GO BEAUTIFUL AND BOTHERED for going viral!!
I think tutorials are great… especially ones like balancing your brows.. how to over line your lips properly, what colors look the best on which undertones etc. You both have done the makeup on so many people with every shape of face that I think that knowledge is worth its weight in gold.
I think it went viral because it hit a chord of truth. I found your RU-vid channel for the first time last week and watched the whole episode. It was great! I laughed out loud and clutched my pearls when you said that about femininity because WHOA. TRUTH! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 I hope you can look past the negativity and realize that you planted a very important seed of thought into the world! ❤❤❤❤
So excited to hear this because I bought the ABH stick and I’m 54. The struggle is REAL! I’ve worked in cosmetics for over 20 years and suddenly I’ve got to rethink all of my old faves!
Yay for Patreon!!! I would love your afterhours, off-the-cuff, uncensored chat about everything and anything 😂 I think makeup tutorials would be awesome as well, especially for different skin types. It would be cool to have models/friends/family who you can makeover as a teaching tool - especially for mature skin. Even Drag Race recaps and Pop Culture chats would be sickening! Honestly, follow your dreams and make the content that gives you both joy. We'll all be here to support you as much as we can 😘 Big love from Australia xxx
I understand the virality of the clip was stressfull but....I love your content because it is a dynamic mix of the beauty industry, your comical banter and real conversations about things. You have a different POV with your show and that's why I love it. You keep being you ❤
Loving Kevin's look with the flannel and the soft pink lips, FABULOUS! Also, please please please do a makeup police on your previous makeup looks. I'm so here for that!
I would love after podcast content talking about whatever/venting. Also doing content with any purchases from Purchase or Pass. Thank you so much for all your hard work! We love you! ❤
@@beautifulandbothered Awesome and I want it to be something you guys enjoy doing. I don’t want it to become another thing on your long list of jobs that stresses you out. ♥️
