This group wrote ad co-produce ALL their songs, the 90% by Soyeon, the in K/DA Akali , the rapper anche leader of the group. Hwaa was initially rejected by their company, Cube. As Latata, hteir debut song. It's hard to be a young idol trusted as artist in the music industry in korea, and Soyeon express that in Lion.

Hey AZODi! Im so glad you finally analyzed another (G)I-DLE song :D I thought the same about the similarity between Hwaa and Baddest's end (though I dont think Soyeon had production influence on The Baddest). It ended abruptly but I think it helps its replay value. The brief end made me think want to replay the whole song again. Also, I think it might be a strategy for live performances because you can easily imagine an extended instrumental outro with a GRANDER dance break as a performance so it lends itself to dramatic live stages well. talking about the album, I loved all of the girls stuff previously but I have to say this is my favorite album. The thing I find interesting with IDLE and what I think is their strongest trait is that theyre very cinematic. Lion and Oh My God being prime examples that if you just listen to their previous song without the videos, it does lose some of its drama or it does not "feel" as epic. Their albums also feel like a collection of songs like most typical artists. With that said, this album (I Burn) is their theatricality translated perfectly to their sound. Putting this album on shuffle should be illegal because every song is connected and its their most cohesive album to date. The sequence portrays the full story of the whole album. Its the despair and the coldness of the breakup, the loneliness and the reflection, the learning and the process of moving on. Their cinematic nature was put into the album and I love that. They chose the right instruments and mixed them beautifully. Vocally, I also feel that this album pushed them further than before and I think they succeeded in improving and showcasing their vocal prowess. Its hard to pick a favorite song from this album. As a casual fan of Kpop groups with multiple producer members (IDLE, SKZ), I was wondering if you've noticed if certain members have any signature production styles or patterns they tend to use? Also, Im curious on if you think that having Idol Producers in a group benefits the group more or can be detrimental?

Been loving the extra bits you've been doing lately when you deep dive into the songs. As a hobbyist songwriter, that kind of stuff is super insightful and helps me really wrap my head around things that would probably take me forever to even notice.

Hey @AZODi, question for you about kpop in general. One major thing I love about kpop is the Korean language itself. There are a lot more syllables and words ending in vowels, which opens up the vocals and the consonants are cut short a lot more than in English, making the lyrics crisp and precise. When some kpop songs are translated to English, these qualities are lost to a large amount and together with the translated lyrics often not quite fitting the bars of the instrumentals, the whole thing just sounds off to me. I'm a little afraid that as Kpop tries to conquer the American market, that which makes it quintessentially kpop/Korean will literally be lost in translation. Interestingly, (G)I-dle is one of the very few groups where the English translated songs (eg Oh My God and Hwaa) are done in such a way as to (mostly) avoid this and they sound fantastic. Maybe because they do write the songs themselves? Now, I have heard that a lot of kpop songs are first written in English and then translated/fine tuned to Korean. Which makes it seem weird to me that the English version would then not be the superior one... All this is my own opinion, of course, and plenty of people don't mind the English versions but I do think my views are based on objective observations. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Awesome analysis as usual. This comeback and album is their most successful so far with 9 music show wins, a lot of #1's on itunes, and all the tracks in the album are charting well in Korea. The abrupt ending/outro seems to be a recurring theme in the album. btw you should listen and check out their album in your free time. It's a story about different emotions one may feel after a breakup, and the songs are really well made.

I think the abrupt ending is a hint to listen to the entire album and not just the title track. There's so many great side tracks in this album it's actually nuts.

The abrupt end was actually exactly that. Soyeon said in an interview that her favorite way to end a song is abruptly, because it leaves a bigger impact and makes the listener want to hear more.

I don't think Soyeon is a producer of any K/DA songs. Many people conflate K/DA and (G)i-dle for some reason. K/DA is a Riot produced virtual group. Soyeon and Miyeon were only vocalists in some of the songs. If Soyeon had any influence into her rap lyrics someone will correct me.
