As a mum I would most definitely not be happy if my kids former babysitter wanted to hang out with him and then date him. I know Mormon girls maybe more delayed than “normal” girls, but generally speaking girls mature far earlier. So this age gap isn’t just the numbers- this is a WOMAN who owns a house and he is a youth. I have had a few too many males tell me of inappropriate activities with teenage babysitters when they were young- I do not assume automatically that females are safe with your children. Also if these kids were raised together like family for years- it’s also a bit odd to leap over that familial line into romance with someone you knew as a child- which is barely out of being a child. Add in religion and wow. I do wonder if the family have ostracised him by being openly passionately against it. I know if it was my son I wouldn’t be posting on twitter - that would be guaranteed no contact. Situations like these the “adult “ should know to cut the kid loose- let him have his youth and study- But I have feeling this 26 year old- as the mother fears- wants to get a bun in that oven asap and tie down this kid (and tie up his potential earnings ) What a nightmare. Maybe someone should have stepped in when they saw an adult or older teen girl spending so much time - earlier on. Ugh.

It's your friendly neighborhood attorney here to answer Bill's question: why doesn't every company have its employees sign a prospective release? Because it wouldn't be enforceable. Remember, independent contractors and employees are different. First of all, employees are covered by workers compensation. Which means they cannot sue their employer for injuries suffered while doing their job - they have to go through workers comp. Now, if the boss intentionally hurts the employee, by say, assaulting them, that's not covered by workers comp and you can sue. Independent contractors, on the other hand, can sue for injuries because they aren't covered by workers comp. Including this release in the independent contractor agreement may not be enforceable, but that depends on the state. Now, since she signed the agreement after the injury, this strikes me as an abnormal independent contractor agreement. It reads more like the kind of release you'd put in a settlement so I feel like there's something else going on here. But it doesn't matter, the case was dismissed. Second of all, most protections for employees come from statutes (anti-discromination, wage and hour, etc) and these statutes only cover employees, not independent contractors. Okay, so why doesn't every employer just classify their employees as independent contractors? Because that's not how it works. The law defines what an employee is, not the employer. There's a multi factor test to determine if an individual is an employee or an independent contractor, but the most important factor is control. Most employees have to exercise a degree of control that makes an individual an employee. Personally, I think there's an argument here that she was actually an employee, not an independent contractor. The fact that it seems her attorneys didn't argue that strikes me as odd.

The filipowski story is basically gossip at this point. To spend more than 2 minutes on it is a waste of time at this point since we don’t actually know anything. Your standards are usually much higher.

The fact that she was his babysitter makes me believe it is NO DOUBT that if (when) he leaves her he will undoubtedly speak about grooming. I’m sure she BEEN had her eye on him and they probably started talking way before he was 16. Yall don’t have enough energy for her and it’s sad, because no matter even if we just got by him being 17 and her being 23 is wild. She is disgusting plain and simple and her family supporting her BS following around a 17-18 is equally disgusting.

So the families are old friends but they were cutoff? When? Did they always have an issue with them dating or did this happen later? Was the issue the religion? Was it because they didn’t approve? So many questions. Or is this just a classic cleat chaser? Maybe that.

For me, it is too early for this topic. The NBA is a business and if this guy could really play, I doubt he would fall that much...i.e. Allen Iverson. Can he play defense? At this point it seems like more gossip than some sort of conspiracy? Maybe it is a big deal and maybe there is something to it, but at this point there needs to be more fact, it seems a little National Inquiry and TMZ fishing.
